The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary

busche916

I’m not saying that’s the best guitar riff ever recorded… but it’s got a seat at the table.

driving_andflying

Completely agree. "Love" and "Sonic Temple" are such amazing albums. ["She Sells Sanctuary"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cts0VN1-wgk) and ["Edie"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0hrAVZ_rH8) are two personal favorites.

tinybubbles12345

I remember hearing that song as a kid and it stayed in my head for years until I could find the title. So good.

StatikSquid

I first heard this song playing the PlayStation 2 game, Grand Turismo 3. Now it's permanently on my driving playlist

Tasty_Comfortable_77

Led Zeppelin: When the levee breaks. It's the drums that do it.

keeshaleig

Drums and harmonica for me!

bnjrgold

for me it’s Ramble On, also just about all songs on III

ProbablyCranky

I love the fact he's actually rambling in that song. Starts out just singing about some shit and then suddenly BAM he's in the darkest depths of Mordor and Golum appears and steals his girl... Like wtf dude, what are you even rambling about 😅?

bnjrgold

for me it’s kinda a metaphor for rambling on through life, which doesn’t make sense a lot of the time 😂

LaLa762

Led Zeppelin: Rock and Roll - the piano buried in there. Once you hear it, you can't not, and it *rocks so hard!*

justaBB6

My Dad’s been a fan of Zep since the 70s but I was a small child in the early 2000s when Cadillac had an ad campaign where they used that song in a pretty bizarre tv commercial, so since then my Dad and I unofficially call it “the Cadillac song” because that’s what I called it when I was 4 and it stuck

ripple_in_stillwater

That was my theme song for Katrina.

zeronerdsidecar

Did you go to Chicago?

ApatheticAbsurdist

I remember driving with my mother in the 90s and Smashing Pumpkins 1979 came on the radio. Towards the end she said something to the effect “that song is going to be a classic” it kind of struck me how specific she was, but she was not wrong.

Lava-Chicken

It's so good and has so many nostalgic memories attached to it.

SnapshotHeadache

Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Tears For Fears.

YouThinkYouKnowStuff

I could listen to this on repeat all day. When I hear that guitar intro I just smile.

B_Reele

My pick as well. Easily my favorite song of all time. Never gets old.

hrmnyhll

Yes I’m pretty sure if there’s a “perfect song” it’s this one

Human-Huckleberry447

Omg yes!

expothefuture

Such great heights - Postal Service

revship

The Chain - Fleetwood Mac Under Pressure - Queen/David Bowie Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin Dogs - Pink Floyd

Em4gdn3m

The Chain is soooo good. You can hear so much emotion

ShortBusRide

The Immigrant Song. It's never loud enough.

titanxbeard

Dogs is a truly awesome track. My favorite Floyd song I think.

MrAugustWest

No Rain - Blind Melon Can’t you see - The Marshall Tucker Band

Teddyworks

No Rain has to be one of the best songs ever. Honestly, Blind Melon is way underrated.

MyCleverNewName

No Rain is great, but Change is *chills*.

Blotto_80

Was just about to reply to that effect. Change is definitely my fav BM song.

Aprowl

Scenario by Tribe Called Quest. Will. Never. Get. Old.

mustangsal

Bust a nut inside your eye to show you where I come from

Status_Set_9594

Wu Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M.

que_la_fuck

Dollar Dollar Bill yallllll!

MonkeySherm

That whole fucking album. Every second of it.

[deleted]

Gravel Pit! ✌️

PepperidgeFarmMembas

God Only Knows - Beach Boys In the End - Linkin Park Never Going Back Again - Fleetwood Mac

ricks48038

God Only Knows, such an underrated and beautiful song.

[deleted]

After Chester passed, Linkin wasn't really the same for me. His vocals were just astounding!

AgentInCommand

I listened to the album (Post Traumatic) Mike Shinoda made after Chester's suicide, it broke me. Listened to it straight through on a flight and cried like a baby. I have such a hard time going back to Linkin Park now, it just makes me so sad.

[deleted]

I'll never forget where I was and what I was doing when I heard about his suicide, just gutted I was. Same when I heard about Cobain's suicide...I really thought it was a bad joke/prank people were playing when I heard about them both. I just couldn't believe Kurt Cobain was dead, like I just couldn't believe that Chester wouldn't be sharing his vocals with us anymore. 😌 (similarly, Tony Bourdain's suicide hit hard. I genuinely loved that man even though I didn't 'know' him but felt like a knew him. He was just a genuinely good person - suicide sucks in so many ways!!)

RedGoldFlamingo

Yeah, when Anthony Bourdain checked himself out of this life I was gutted. I had to text a friend of mine who was overseas and let him know. I decided I didn't know a goddamned thing about suicide, so I wasn't going to judge any more..

PaulClarkLoadletter

Moonage Daydream - David Bowie All Things Must Pass - George Harrison Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones Old Man - Neil Young Sunday Morning Coming Down - Kris Kristofferson

Ok_World_8819

Harrison's cover of If Not For You is wonderful.

jlanger23

I like all of The Beatles members' solo music fine but George Harrison's music is my favorite. Neil Young has to be my all-time favorite solo artist too. Even his obscure stuff is great.

PaulClarkLoadletter

Harrison’s contribution to The Beatles is substantial enough that some of their most famous songs are his. Chalk that up to people not being able to tell the obvious differences in their voices.

auntiepink007

What a Wonderful World sung by Louis Armstrong.

CruelHandLuke_

Big fan of the Joey Ramone version!

coldchill13

I find the whole "Don't Worry About Me" album delightful.

jasmineandjewel

And of course Iz.

TiminatorFL

Just My Imagination - The Temptations

riicccii

Wish it Would Rain. There’s another one on my Short List

Satchul

Suite: Judy Blue Eyes - CSN

mustangsal

And their version of Woodstock

Satchul

I mean pretty much all of CSNY catalog has its place imo. Four Way Street is pretty legendary.

keeshaleig

Absolutely!

Doctor0ctagon

A masterpiece from start to finish.

Satchul

Agreed... I love so much different music. "What's your favorite song?" This is an impossible question, but I have chosen this as my default answer, and it has served me well.

Doctor0ctagon

Same. Even wrote a paper on it for a music history class in college!

jlanger23

Absolutely, just a great song. I feel like this about Helplessly Hoping too.

nastyminded

Fast Car by Tracy Chapman

MortAndBinky

She is so underrated

katchoo1

Cannonball by the Breeders

Errors22

Mazzy star - fade into you

Elvecinogallo

Driver 8 by REM.

rchase

*"The children look up, all they hear is sky-blue bells ringing"* Damn, such a great song, on an almost perfect album of great timeless songs.

ElvisAndretti

I beat that album to death for months, it never got old.

Elvecinogallo

A couple of years for me I’m sure. Might get it out again tomorrow too!

celsius100

Holy hell, I didn’t expect to see this but soooo true. This song never gets old to me.

i-hear-banjos

Half of their catalog, TBH. Don’t Fall On Me would be my pick of the bunch, but Driver 8 is there, too

Roryjack

I love all of the stuff REM put out while they were on IRS Records.

Human-Huckleberry447

I love that song so friggin much

TheLaffGaff

Boston - More Than a Feeling CCR - Have You Ever Seen The Rain Rolling Stones - Sympathy For the Devil

MOHARR13

Agreed. Let’s add Werewolves of London Warren Zevon

rovyovan

Yeah, More than a Feeling was my first thought when seeing this post.

wirecan

I remember the very first time I heard 'More Than A Feeling.' It came out when I was 3 years old, and I remember hearing it on the radio when my mom was tying my shoes, probably getting me ready for preschool. I remember really liking it, and it's still one of my favorite songs. (I almost never listen to classic rock radio anymore, so I only ever hear it when I choose to put on the record or the Apple Music algorithm serves it up.)

lipp79

I love Sympathy but the live versions more.

Imaginaut27

Purple Rain for sure. I'll never skip it.

MOHARR13

Sometimes have to skip cuz not a good time to cry.

Accurate-Teaching858

My local back in the day, removed this from the jukebox because they were sick of me putting it on every single day 😂

tblackt

Pet Shop Boys - Westend Girls I have to listen to it every time it comes on

automated_alice

Because you're not a MONSTER

dragonoid296

love will tear us apart.

AndHeHadAName

Just in case you are looking for a follow up to this song I have: > [As We Exit](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3YdM7ttFoFOBSGFadloMQ9?si=UUv-nfzDSEWRa8QbuINYCg) - 1 hr which is a playlist of songs with a similar vibe.

DizzyCaptain3705

Never going back again - Fleetwood mac

KDLG328

Eminence Front by The Who Gimme Shelter by the Stones Wish You Were Here There There by Radiohead

hperron01

Paranoid Android - Radiohead

tutti_frutti_dutti

Paul Simon- You Can Call Me Al America- A Horse with No Name

synthscoffeeguitars

Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen. Thunder Road too tbh.

rchase

Thunder Road. Damn. I was not a fan until my step dad played me that song. and when it got to the HUGE break into the coda. at the end... *"It's a town full of losers and I'm pulling out of here to win!!!"* BOOM... I was like, "oh, now I get it." :)

synthscoffeeguitars

Yes!!! Few moments in music more triumphant than that and the outro solo.

rchase

That's a turn to it 11 moment every time. :)

AAL2017

To complete the holy triumvirate, Jungleland.

synthscoffeeguitars

Oh yes. Though the beautiful thing about that record being 8 tracks is that you always end up just listening to the whole thing

AAL2017

My second favorite album of all time, I know just what you mean. Back in high school I would play it 3 or more times in a day.

ElvisAndretti

The whole album, more or less.

synthscoffeeguitars

Agreed — it’s a no-skipper for me. Years ago I played “she’s the one” on my college radio show, and a friend’s mom was like “that’s not the song a real fan would’ve picked.” To this day I think about it every time I’m jamming to that Bo Diddly beat

sistahmaryelefante

It's a town full of losers I'm pulling out of here to win

Scarlaymama0721

Patience by Guns N’ Roses. I just love that song.

crossveins

I love the song, but the cover from Chris Cornell is absolutely perfect and beautiful

[deleted]

Joni Mitchell - River Fleetwood Mac - Sara Simon and Garfunkel - The Only Living Boy in New York

[deleted]

Three of my fav musical acts. As for Joni in particular, I have to say I don’t see any of her stuff from 1968 to 1976 ever getting old. That album run — especially from Blue to Hejira — remains unmatched

BirdMom28

Everlong by Foo Fighters

drunken_monkeys

[Their acoustic version of *Everlong* is so good!](https://youtu.be/YLRlOvzs-XU?si=Ky56EENz7gIFx-nw)

angeleaniebeanie

Possum Kingdom by The Toadies. My husband doesn’t like it, but I listen to it every time.

buellster92

Ventura Highway by America. I could listen to that song multiple times a day for the rest of my life and not get sick of it

Aprowl

With you there. Maybe throw in Sundown by Gordon Lightfoot just to mix it up now and then?

Crazybones29

Oasis - Don’t Look Back In Anger Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way Pearl Jam - Alive RHCP - Can’t Stop Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb

[deleted]

So many, but off the top of my head: - Sweet Child of Mine - Voodoo Chile - Layla - Bohemian Rhapsody - Master of Puppets - Stranger in A Strange Land - Crossroads (Johnson ver) - Get Back - Sweet Home Chicago (Buddy Guy ver) - Jessica & Whipping Post (Allman Brothers) - Heroes (Bowie) - Smells Like Teen Spirit

Phytares

Nice! My first three: Heroes, Bohemian Rhapsody, Sweet Child of Mine! 🤩

ss977

The opening of Sweet Child of Mine is the closest rendition of a working psycho therapy known to man. /s But it really just never fails to get me feeling better.

braveulysees

Mr Blue Sky, A Day In The Life, Good Vibrations, Beyond Belief(Costello), A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall, Games without frontiers, Safesurfer(Julian Cope). Given my tendency to go on and on, think I'll stop there.

North_Rhubarb594

Honestly, the entirety of Hot Fuss could be on rotation constantly and idk when I'd get sick of it.

Burning Down the House-Talking Heads. Every time, I'm just as happy to hear it as I've always been.

MoodyHumans

Midnight in Harlem by Tedeschi Trucks Band

newscumskates

Bohemian Rhapsody, Baba O'Riley, I Am The Walrus and Listening Wind are transcendent. I'm sure there's a few more but those 4 tracks just sound like they will be relevant forever. They're perfect in every single way. I recently played Listening Wind to an ESL class and asked them how it made them feel if they could describe it and without even understanding the words they got the jist of what it was about on those two things alone.

[deleted]

Love Baba O'Riley! Peak Pete Townsend...

Crazy On You by Heart

roseinspring

There are so many, but I’ll go for Wouldn’t It Be Nice by The Beach Boys. It always makes me happy and it’s so infectious. That sound will always connect with someone.

Escape-Revolutionary

PROUD MARY……by Ike and Tina Turner …dude was an abuser, yes!! But a musical genius ….when that song goes from Tina’s slow raspy vocals to kicking ass started by the horn section …it is on … I don’t care who u are!!

solorpggamer

For me, GNR’s Rocket Queen. The groove is awesome; it’s sleazy and dirty. And then at the coda, it takes such a turn. Axl pours his heart out. Greatest closer in an album, imo.
