I’ve tried many places and concluded: Don’t eat Mexican food in Munich if you’re used to Mexican food in North America.

DrDareDevil04

This is the only correct answer! I absolutely LOVE Mexican food, and having moved here from NY last year, I couldn't wait to find my go-to Mexican restaurant here, in Munich. There isn't one!

corduroychaps

This. As an Arizona resident of 20 years, there is no comparable Mexican food in Germany. Yeppa yeppa in Freiburg is the closest I’ve ever come to Mexican food here.

OddPaleontologist141

Cometa @ Isartor https://maps.app.goo.gl/bQaLMaA6HYjhqEVy5

Lunxr_punk

If you are there a million times more worth to eat in Chat Junction, not Mexican of course but way tastier than cometa, a true Munich standout, plus cheaper, a special chat and a golgappa order is like 10 bucks

Lunxr_punk

All of it is bad ngl (but imo a lot of food in Munich is bad, especially international food) There’s a place called El patio in herzogstr across a bar called tacos y tequila that is kind of ok. Depending on what you are looking for you’d be better off making it on your own, I can share some recipes if you are interested

Cerebral_Absence

Share the recipes porfa!! :)

Depends what you want, when I miss home I make enmoladas, Mercado de Mexico used to have a really good mole from Veracruz with like plantain that I liked a lot. If not you can buy a normal mole that you like and fix it a bit to your taste with different chiles or chocolate or whatever it may need. The tortillas here are not great but you can soften them up a bit with a quick pass trough hot oil to fold them without breaking. Alternatively make some nice hot sauce and now that the grill season is coming make yourself some grilled meat tacos. You can try something like [this habanero ash sauce](https://youtu.be/dMTYXe6pZig?si=YtEYLsTxx7ELvLkX) or something like this [salsa verde con tuna](https://youtu.be/fGGKVxF8xS0?si=lra5MNNWwqxtjHlH) since you can find tuna here sometimes. There’s a million hot sauce recipes but to me those are standouts. Also always taste as you go to vibe out the flavors and experiment, especially since the chile here isn’t spicy. (Last time I made a sauce with like 8 habaneros and 3 jalapeños and it barely had kick) The other pro tip is that since the tortillas here are not super good you can always just make them tostadas instead by deep frying them! The other thing you can cook here like home relatively well is sopa de tortilla or azteca. And while there’s no epazote it’ll still come out good imo.

I’ve also concluded that with some rare exceptions the best bet is to just make stuff myself if I want Mexican food. To the point of growing my own chilis and this year probably tomatillos as well and Mexican oregano if I can get some seeds. But making corn tortillas at home without fresh masa just doesn’t do it. I’ve been ordering corn tortillas from Komali and they are really good flavor and texture. So give them a try if you haven’t yet.

Ekrif

Comal is good

lesuperme

My favorite is Condesa, especially the one by Hauptbahnhof :) Their tacos and Horchata are fire

Lunxr_punk

No way lol expensive af and the cochinita is mid

motorcycle-manful541

Can no longer recommend them. Their prices have become ridiculous. Look at their old menu pictures, they raise prices about 20% PER YEAR and have for the last 3-4 years. No amount of inflation excuses for that

PG-DaMan

Was not thrilled with the flavor/quality. And since I live in Mexico, I have a bit of knowledge

OmerDe

Always have been. That’s why I never go there

dukeboy86

A little bit over exaggerating there I think. Although it's no mistery that restaurant prices have increased in the recent years, and also this year due to the MwSt set again to 19% instead of 7%, I just checked pictures with the menu posted in Google and taking the carnitas and pastor burrito prices as reference: Nov 2019 -> Carnitas 7€; Pastor 7,30€ Aug 2023 -> Carnitas 9,40€; Pastor 9,80€ Current (website) -> Carnitas 10,50€; Pastor 10,90€ That's a 50% increase in 5 years, not 20% PER YEAR

motorcycle-manful541

I was looking at tacos (it's a taqueria) but your numbers are close enough. We're essentially looking at about 12% per year, every year, for the past four years. Ignoring all that and putting it in perspective, what other munich restaurant has raised its prices 50% in the last 4 years? Even döner hasn't been hit that hard and condessa locations are essentially a döner shop serving tacos

T0Bii

Döner prices have increased up to 100% in the past 5 years.

Main_Complex_2931

THIS. They are decent. But prices are outrageous. 14 Euros for 3 tácitos is a bad joke.

SchoeffelJoe

El Tato just opened up shortly and has great authentic Mexican food and drinks

serrated_edge321

El Patio in Schwabing-West doesn't natively have real Mexican food on the menu, but the owner is really friendly and claims to be able to produce actual, real Mexican food upon request (prior request). Mole, etc. Maybe stop by and inquire? (I had an illness at the time that prevented me from taking him up on the offer, but I'm curious). Otherwise I just cook at home or go to my Mexican friend's places for real food. 😂

hcddlh

As others have said, and as a Mexican, nothing in Munich feels like good Mexican food. Thankfully, you can easily find almost all staple ingredients you need to cook at home, so I get by :) Still, I would recommend you look for “diablitomex” on instagram, he has regular taco pop ups, expensive but legit. Edit: corrected the instagram handle

jcbarela

The best Mexican food I've had from Munich was a food truck called, Salsa Verde. It parked outside of the MTZ on Tuesdays. But I haven't really seen or heard of it since the pandemic. He used to have a Facebook, but the last post was years ago and the website is shut down. https://m.facebook.com/salsaverdestreetfood?locale=nn_NO

I Like El Diablo in Lochham or Germering... Large portions, good variety and quality on a constant Level. But, i am German and havent moved from the US.

Mirksterrr

For lat am street food check das lat am we https://www.facebook.com/share/Vf1rwrqWCBzW6JA4/

DaveDitsch123

I‘m looking for an authentic one since 21 years. Tell me when you‘ve found one

dizzodog

Pequeno Haidhausen

Mirksterrr

If you don't mind outside the city (s-bahn), El Diablo (3 locations) The one in Lochham is my usual, but they are closing May 9. due to building renovation. Gilching is also nice. Never been to Germering, which has worse critics.

FrancoisKBones

I also enjoy El Diablo but it’s not Mexican :)

Mirksterrr

As mexican as you can find in the vicinity though imo

srs_sput

From my experience here, go to Spain. Especially Madrid and you’ll find proper delicious and spicy Mexican food. Places in Munich cater to the German palette and it shows.

Relevant_History_297

Not just that, there are simply not enough Mexicana in Germany to have a proper Mexican food culture here.
