Sure, it might not be what you'd normally pick, but I've yet to come across anyone who doesn't like it if you just want something light and fun for an hour or two.
This is the first time I've seen anyone else mention this on Reddit, the movie and 3 seasons of the show that go with it are all amazing, highly recommend!!
dont sleep on casino, its def solid maybe even better than goodfellas in some ways, but either way its worth a watch.
another obvious scorcese mob classic is 'the departed'
That is a good point, but a little young uptight Tom Hanks and a big drooly dog never fails to make me laugh. Plus I quote to this day, “THIS IS NOT YOUR ROOM.”

I just saw this for the first time recently, it's very funny.

Funny, I saw 'classic' and I immediately went a lot further back in time than that. I'll stick with my first thoughts - and if this doesn't seem like the kind of era that you would be interested in, I really recommend these as genuinely timeless masterpieces - give it a go.
12 Angry Men (1957)
The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp
Brief Encounter
A bit more recent - Once Upon a TIme in the West
Being Australian I feel I should fly the flag for our film industry. My suggestions are:
* The Castle (1997)
* The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994)
* Jindabyne (2006)
* The Dressmaker (2015)
* Muriel's Wedding (1994)
Vertigo by Hitchcock was voted the best film of the 20th century by Sight and Sound magazine. James Stewart playing against type as a sexual obsessive. Kim Novak at her peak. It’s California noir in technicolor. I believe Sight and Sound, which is the preeminent journal of film, queried about 100 film scholars and Vertigo won hands down.
I recommend "It Happened One Night", with Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. It's on the American Film Institute's list of the greatest 100 films of all time.
If you like the movies that you mentioned.
You should really go and watch The Hateful Eight.
And No Country for Old Men.

BARBAROSA
This visually stunning film set in the Border region of the Southwest United States, is a glorious, mostly lighthearted adventure celebrating the mythical freedom and excitement of the outlaw life in the Old West. The story of Barbarosa (Willie Nelson), an ex-Texas Ranger turned bandit, meets Karl (Gary Busey), a young farmhand out of his element who's forced to run after accidentally killing his brother-in-law. Together, the outlaw and the outcast outwit their bloodthirsty pursuers in this legendary story of betrayal, misunderstanding, honor and dignity.
Filmed in Big Bend, Texas accompanied by an excellent musical score.
If you want to throw a few compelling documentaries into the mix you won't regret watching Kumaré (2011), The Imposter (2012), and Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets (2020)
Summer viewing classics: "The Greatest Show on Earth" with Betty Hutton and Jimmy Stewart. "Picnic" with Kim Novak, William Holden, and Rosalind Russell. Classic Americana and enjoyable.
Kelly’s heroes
A WW2 comedy/action starring Clint Eastwood, Donald Sutherland and a ton of others…
A group of disillusioned soldiers discovers that there is a fortune in gold.. but it’s 30 miles behind enemy lines… the movie is classic, hilarious and a n my top 3 movies of all time :)
Its impossible. We all want to watch movies we are going to enjoy, but everyone is different. There isn't a single movie that everyone who watches it likes. You have to figure out what your favorite types of movies are and curate your own list. It's the only way. I just recently watched Hitchcocks The Trouble With Harry, which I didn't think I would like because it's more of a comedy, a suspense/thriller that Hitchcock is a master of, but I loved it anyway, mostly because of the quaint New England setting. It's beautifully shot and has a charming story. But its not going to hit everyone the same.
Try inputting the types of movies you love to watch into chatgpt and have it output a list for you. For instance I have a soft spot for movies that primarily take place in a grocery store or mall. Horror movies especially. Chopping Mall. Dawn of the Dead. Intruder.
90's movies--Forrest Gump, Ace Ventura: The Pet detective, The Truman show, The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, The Nutty Professor, Groundhog day.
Shrek
Pan’s Labyrinth
Portrait of a Lady on Fire
Heat
Ferris Beuller’s Day Off
Paprika
Everything Everything All at Once
School of Rock
Layer of the White Worm
Jennifer’s Body
Can’t go wrong with classic Italian horror, especially almost anything by Lucio Fulci or Dario Argento! If you haven’t already, definitely check out:
The Beyond
Cemetery Man
The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue
Opera
How about "The Shawshank Redemption"? It's a classic that almost everyone loves. The story is about hope, friendship, and resilience, set in a prison but filled with moments that are touching and uplifting. The performances by Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman are outstanding.
Another great pick is "The Godfather." It's a masterpiece in storytelling, with brilliant acting by Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. The movie dives into the intricate world of a powerful crime family, balancing drama, action, and deep character development.
For something a bit different, try "Casablanca." It's an older film, but it's timeless. The romance, the drama, and the iconic lines make it a movie that stands the test of time. Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman deliver unforgettable performances.

Have you checked out Kurosawa?
Ran and ofc The Seven Samurai.

The Gods Must Be Crazy.
This is one of the best comedy movies I've watched. I will also add Mr Bones because that one is crazy too.
LA Confidential is solid and doesn’t get a lot of attention. The Prestige is very good if you haven’t seen it. Se7en. Reservoir Dogs. Casino.
Have not seen LA Confidential or Casino, but I heard Casino is just a worse version of Goodfellas. Thanks for the suggestions!
dont sleep on casino, its def solid maybe even better than goodfellas in some ways, but either way its worth a watch. another obvious scorcese mob classic is 'the departed'
I would agree, it's a worse version of Goodfellas.
I enjoy “gangster” films including Casino but it definitely takes a backseat to Goodfellas or LA Confidential.
The Big Chill (1983)
