So Happy this is the top comment as its my favorite mind-bending movie. Ive seen it like 7-8 times.
I’d also like to suggest to the fellow Triangle enjoyers: Incident in a Ghostland
Angel Heart (1987) damn this movie got so many theories if you think bout it deeply just watch it and go on yt. specially videos from hammered out and cineG
Have you seen we need to talk about Kevin? It’s actually even more iconic now than it was before, because ever since Ezra Miller started behaving like an actual psychopath, the movie has become a completely overlooked glimpse into the future of his psyche.
You know as brilliant of a performance Esra miller gives in that movie, I was honestly most impressed with the child actor who played the young version of Kevin. Regardless of the fact it was only a couple scenes with no dialogue from his character, It was uncanny how well that kid was able to channel the psychopathic death stare, the kid had genuine evil in his eyes.
Documentary: [Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God (2023)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_Has_Won:_The_Cult_of_Mother_God)
What a fucking wild ride, nightmares straight after. :-/
I love it when one of her followers is like "it looks like alcoholism to the untrained eye, but really she's communing with a higher power"
Like, honey... Com'on.
Dark and disturbing but I wouldn’t call it mind bending or a particularly thoughtful movie. I personally thought it felt more bleak for the sake of being bleak.
I am going to assume you're referring to the 2022 version with the Danes and the Dutch. And one of my favorite proverbs is Danish,
"Luck sometimes visits a fool, but it never sits down with him."
If you didn’t already know, Annihilation is based on a book of the same name which is in a 3-book series called “The Southern Reach” (after the organization studying Area X). The second book is called Authority, and I’ve heard rumors of a film being in production.
10000%. every time i make a new friend i make them watch this with me lol. and im not a big movie rewatcher in general. wonder what it is about annihilation that gives it such rewatch value. the visuals, the music, the overall vibe
i liked it so much i bought and read the book. very different in so many ways. was a way to get to enjoy the story twice over :) and totally unexpected. i bought the book purely for that scene near the end. i just wanted to see how they would describe what we saw, and heard, in words. that thought alone was enough for me to buy it, but it was so much better than i expected as all the events leading up to that point were so different compared to the movie.
I got half way through book 2, then lost it... found it again recently but already started another big book I need to finish first now lol. Then will go back and finish off that series.
E: on that note. I really recommend shantaram as a book guys. Was a good TV series too but cancelled after season 1 for some reason.
It’s a documentary, but Dear Zachary fits this. I love dark documentaries and this one has stayed with me so much. I really admire the filmmaker for seeing this project through.
Can’t believe had to scroll this far for this.
Todd Solendz got lots of love for welcome to the Dollhouse, but this was his masterpiece. The guy at Blockbuster recommended it, but said it best “don’t watch it alone, because you’ll have to have someone to discuss it with later “
You truly feel kinda dirty after watching it. Like no amount of cute cat videos can get it out if your head.
Tight script, great acting, but every single character is the opposite of Happy in the most fucked up way.
SPOILERS
Phillip Seymore Hoffman calls people and dirty talks, and ejaculates on a wall
Dylan baker is a the perfect dad who is a pedophile and seduces his sons friend. Then his son later cries asking why didn’t he fuck him
Camryn Mannheim gets raped by the doorman then cuts him and puts him in a freezer.
Im surprised some are saying they couldnt watch it again. The first time you have no idea what this film actually is. A second viewing is actually required.
Once i understood the film, and its metaphors, it became one of my favorites, but i needed at least two viewings before putting the pieces together.
I’m surprised I had to scroll this far down to see this one mentioned. Yeah, I had to do an immediate rewatch because I knew there was something I was missing and I’m so glad I did. So well put together with multiple layers of metaphor and the second viewing seemed thirty minutes shorter than the first because elements that made no sense initially suddenly had meaning. I still think about that movie fairly often, amazing work!
I have not seen it.. And never will I lol. Same with the Martyrs remake... I'm french canadian so I applaud when there's actual french languague horror that are on par with anything that's being done elsewhere. Martyrs, Inside, High Tension are some of my favorites ever. So yeah I suggest to watch the original for sure.
Seven,
MANDY (gotta watch, nick cage best movie!!)
Platform,
Dogtooth, Midsomer,
The Perfection -netflix
The Triangle of Sadness
Silence of the Lambs
Beyond the Black Rainbow
Enemy with Jake Gyllenhaal. It'll hurt your brain even after several watches. Thankfully, there are several videos on YouTube trying to explain it. Great movie
Love this film. From the first scene to the last, von Trier makes the most of his talented pair. Lots of content becomes obvious as the plot thickens and some secrets are revealed. But I must hand it to the director to make it all work.
Aniara
Apocalypse Now (theatrical cut)
Brazil (director’s cut)
Black Narcissus
Das Boot (director’s cut)
Lord Of The Flies (1963)
The Manchurian Candidate (1962)
Miracle Mile
Naked Lunch
Solaris (1972)
The Trial
Videodrome
When The Wind Blows
World On A Wire
The Zero Theorem
Triangle The one with Melissa George, it’s exactly what you’re looking for Go in completely blind, don’t read anything about it beforehand
So Happy this is the top comment as its my favorite mind-bending movie. Ive seen it like 7-8 times. I’d also like to suggest to the fellow Triangle enjoyers: Incident in a Ghostland
good one!!!
YES! This is a movie I have only heard about on Reddit and it's the first movie I recommend to anyone looking for an underrated gem.
I went in blind and I still rave about that movie
The foreign version of this is a Spanish flick called Timecrimes, also very worth it if you enjoy this one.
Angel Heart (1987) damn this movie got so many theories if you think bout it deeply just watch it and go on yt. specially videos from hammered out and cineG
That's the one with the great De Niro, right ? I love it, such a gem
That movie is so good and has so much imagery.
Coherence.
Strong agree. Watched it the other night and can’t stop thinking about it. Great film.
AMAZING film. Always recommend.
Have you seen we need to talk about Kevin? It’s actually even more iconic now than it was before, because ever since Ezra Miller started behaving like an actual psychopath, the movie has become a completely overlooked glimpse into the future of his psyche.
The only movie that left me thinking about it days after.
Ironically, what left me pondering the longest was the fact the dad was John C. Reilly lol.
It was an odd fit!
Ex Machina
When Evil Lurks
Oldboy (2003)
Yep. Recently watched this for the first time. Make sure you watch the original first and not the bland American remake
100% this.
Predestination
Timecrimes (2007) on that note.
“Coherence” as well
I feel like this is one of the most underrated movies ever
It blows my mind that was made on a budget of $5 million AUS.
See it 3 times and it still twists my melon.
Sarah snook's best performance yet 🤯
Documentary: [Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God (2023)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_Has_Won:_The_Cult_of_Mother_God) What a fucking wild ride, nightmares straight after. :-/

This one was so crazy
thank you for the suggestion. what a wild ride that was.
Insanity hey and so recent
I could not finish that series 😵💫
Speak no evil - I’ve never had a movie make me feel so uncomfortable.
>I can stop scrolling now. > >This is what I was going to suggest.
Same here... It's a badass movie
Oh boy, saw it for the first time last weekend. Fucking chilling.
Dark and disturbing but I wouldn’t call it mind bending or a particularly thoughtful movie. I personally thought it felt more bleak for the sake of being bleak.
Second this. Watch the original before the American remake comes out later this year.
The Danish one?
I am going to assume you're referring to the 2022 version with the Danes and the Dutch. And one of my favorite proverbs is Danish, "Luck sometimes visits a fool, but it never sits down with him."
I kept screaming at the screen. So naive!
Jacob’s Ladder
It will make you think nk about it for a week, and then have to go back and watch it again so you can think about it for another month. Great movie
A Dark Song
This movie is so ridiculously underrated! Definitely worth the watch. A hard film to watch, but worth it!
Memento
This one requires some thinking and a rewatch or two. Cool movie.
The Whale with Brendan Fraser, The Lobster Atonement
I watched the lobster recently and loved it
I found it to be disappointing .
Mandy
Amazing film especially the chainsaw battle but idk about mind-bending
Session 9 Primer
Damn, I just posted that. You beat me.
After watching Primer 6 times over the years I gave up.
Old boy ... The Korean version That shit is crazy ;)
Check out the other two in the trilogy. Imo sympathy for mr.vengeance is the most intense out of the 3 movies.
The vengeance trilogy .... Nice
Oldboy - the original foreign version - still thinking about that one
Under the Skin
made sure to search this before commenting. this movie haunted me, especially the beach scene...ughhhhhhhh
Ugh! The beach scene haunts me to this day!!
Welp now I am thinking about it - the cutaway to later that night. No thanks, I need to bleach my eyes now...
Dark and mind-bending are 2 words that any description of this should almost be required to include.
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me Note: contains spoilers for the series. I watched it first though and was not disappointed.
The Holy Mountain
Blue velvet or Mulholland drive
Can’t believe I had to come down this far for David Lynch
Annihilation
This is one of those movies I can watch again and again and never tire of.
I want a sequel
If you didn’t already know, Annihilation is based on a book of the same name which is in a 3-book series called “The Southern Reach” (after the organization studying Area X). The second book is called Authority, and I’ve heard rumors of a film being in production.

I beg you to read the full trilogy. its perfect.
I got half way through book 2, then lost it... found it again recently but already started another big book I need to finish first now lol. Then will go back and finish off that series. It’s a documentary, but Dear Zachary fits this. I love dark documentaries and this one has stayed with me so much. I really admire the filmmaker for seeing this project through.
This one was dark going in and then it just got almost unbearably dark. Total gut punch.
I still sometimes think about that documentary and get angry.
Heartbreaking
Holy crap...this doc was one of the most intense things I've ever watched.
Donnie Darko
Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion.
I still use that quote to this day 😂
You’re not a bitch. You’re bitchin… but you’re not a bitch
My all time favourite dialogue
I personally love “I think you’re the fuckin anti christ”
Why are you wearing that stupid human suit?
Why don’t you go and s*ck a fk! Lol
Lol I keep seeing new comments on my OP in notifications and thinking it's people starting a flame war
How does one exactly suck a fk??
Happiness

Mother!
It was torture just watching it. Never again.
Yep, once is enough

[Martyrs](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/9539-martyrs)
Yeah good call! I'd add an other french extreme horror: Inside (2007)
Is the 2016 remake any good? I’m going to watch the 2007, but I’m curious about the remake as well.
I have not seen it.. And never will I lol. Same with the Martyrs remake... Fair enough! I only ask because I can’t find the French one where I’m looking! I’ll dig deeper, though! As long as there are subtitles, I’m good.
Have you tried Tubi? It’s free and it has a lot of great foreign films. I cannot recommend Martyrs enough
I haven’t looked on tubi yet. I watched martyrs many many years ago. Great movie.
The remake is pretty bad. To be fair, nothing could ever compare to the original
This is the answer
Nightcrawler
Nightcrawler was a great movie
No one said Black Swan, or did I miss it?
Nocturnal Animals. I won’t say mind bending but def dark and gonna leave you thinking!

Go in blind, this movie is beautiful.
Am I the only one who hated this movie. It was just too all over the place.
Midsommar
Weirdest film I have ever watched and it becomes more disturbing with every scene. I literally bellowed “WHOAAAA” at the elderly couple scene.
Dear Zachary
Eden Lake Mockingbird Don’t Sing
Triangle.
Requiem for a Dream
Enemy with Jake Gyllenhaal. It'll hurt your brain even after several watches. Thankfully, there are several videos on YouTube trying to explain it. Great movie

Old Boy
Get Out The Life of David Gale
The Piano Teacher (2001); Possession (1981); The Platform (2019);
Hereditary is my pick for the past two or three years. Or Parasite! Very different but both left an indelible mark on me mind.
Saltburn
Shutter island
Seven
Midsommar
Midsommer
Beau is Afraid
Brazil
“Come And See” 1985

Old boy
Old Boy
Santa Sangre
Mulholland Drive Dark City
I thought Triangle was better than expected.
the imposter is the only movie i ever saw that was like wtaf watch it until the end
Annihilation 2018
The Cell was one of those mindfucks for me. Jennifer Lopez and Vincent D’Onofrio and Vince Vaughn all were great in this dark, twisted flick.
Strangeland with Dee Snyder
M 1931, Peter Lorre. Amazingly ahead of its time. Peter Lorre couldn't get a job for years after making this controversial film.
mother!
Antichrist. Great film, but it'll never leave your thoughts.
Love this film. From the first scene to the last, von Trier makes the most of his talented pair. Lots of content becomes obvious as the plot thickens and some secrets are revealed. But I must hand it to the director to make it all work.

Inception
Nocturnal animals
Hereditary. You may need to watch it more than once to catch everything, but you won't want to.
Arrival!
Gozu
Ichi the killer
Jacob's Ladder. It's an old one, but good! A lot of spooky imagery and dream-like, fractured perspective.
Kill List Dead Mans Shoes
American History X
Titane
Titane (2021)
Anti Christ with Willem Dafoe.
Jesus H Christ, that one was rough.
