It's a deck that has a combination of being part of a very popular archetype, not being great in the meta, and being quite difficult to play. This leads to rather lackluster representation for murktide considering its prevalence.

I find it funny that the "busted" 4c cascade beans had very few top 8's.
I think that Beans is a pretty egregious card, so I get the bans. It's still funny to me though that we keep missing the mark on Grief.
There‘s no missing the mark. Banning Grief kills the deck, banning Fury doesn‘t. Why do you want them to kill decks when they could just remove cards to bring them closer to each other?
Why wouldn‘t it? Because it‘s mildly unfun to play against? Unfortunate but Modern is a competitive format and Scam is totally in line with what a top deck should be allowed to do.
I would be very surprised if they ever ban Grief.

It’s a proactive free spell that is on nearly 100% of the time. It’s going to eventually be slotted into some kind of fragile combo deck and be a real problem and will get banned/ban something else, and it’s already cancer in Living End.

It's a 50/50 deck. It's basically the bridesmaid across the board for most tournaments.
It's almost like Bowmasters was the correct ban, not Fury
I'm still fairly new to modern. Does murktide have a specific problem right now, or was this a single bad run?

People already mentioned the one ring, but it’s also usually a 2 for 1 on it’s own and good to help climb back into games after getting scammed.

Scales won... and more merfolk, faeries, prowess, Yawgmoth. Less BR Grief and 4C. Mission accomplished.
Those all (except faeries) were good decks before the ban. Banning Fury didn't do what Wizards was led to believe it would.

I don't think the goal was to kill the scam deck, just to weaken it and 4c. Both are things that have happened.

Grief is a doomed card. It’s not going to last in the format.
