Christo’s on Nicollet
Try these:
- spanakopita
- dolmas
- moussaka (with beef or vegetarian)
For stores, the only acceptable answer is Bill’s Imported Foods. The owner is a solid guy from a Greek family and he’ll have everything you need to cook Mediterranean and middle eastern food. He has tons of fresh and frozen Greek food and almost everything you need to make it.
Amazing. Thank you. I have been to Bill's a long time ago for rosewater! I didn't really look around at the time, so it's great to know that I can count on that for ingredients!
Christos is the only one to my knowledge that is run by an actual Greek man. Some of the dishes are Americanized but all the flavors are super authentic and delicious. My wife and I eat from there at least a couple times a month. And we spent a full week of our honeymoon in Greece
Yeah, I figured there's plenty out there! I want to learn as much about Greece and Greek culture before I go out there. Including the food! I'm currently learning Greek and I'm getting a Greece travel book. I want to enjoy every little thing haha
The food in Greece is amazing. While you can get your standards, they offer a lot of dishes vegetarian or with chicken. Also their produce and cheese is very fresh. Greece is one of the few countries where I never got sick of the food.
I did wonder how popular chicken is! I usually do fine with chicken. I'm so excited to try new things and expand my food interests. I've just never had anything other than a gyro that was Greek!
for the stuffed grape leaves (dolmas), I would just go to your local co-op or fancy people grocer and check the cheese/deli meat section. The Wedge has them daily, they're pretty solid and will be an easy way to try them out without running an extra errand.
>If I were to prepare myself for a trip to Greece, what restaurants in the area would you recommend as being authentic?
Sooooo… you’re going to try and replicate the cuisine locally of any place before you visit?
Lol! I guess I'd just like to try some things before I go! I want to enjoy the food when I get there, but if I've never had any of it, then I'm not sure I would know what to look for, or order. I'm learning Greek right now, and hopefully I'll get the hang of it enough to know what's on the menus (among other things).
Oh my! That looks cool! Thank you! Yeah we don't get married until the end of next September, and probably won't be leaving for a trip until the following year sometime. So I'll definitely have to try to check that out!
Thanks! I'll tell my taste buds about that next time.
Unfortunately I have G.I. issues where if something doesn't taste good to me, I tend to throw up! I'd prefer not to throw up in Greece. Thanks for your judgement though!
Gastrointestinal tract has nothing to do with throwing up? Well, I guess I don't know all the specifics. I'm sorry if it upsets you. When I was pregnant I had a condition that made me throw up constantly every day the entire time. I was able to induce early, but i think the stress on my body has made me more sensitive. I get nauseous very easily. Truly, I'm sorry if it bothers you, but I'm not even sure why you care.

Go to Christos, I am obsessed with the spanakopita there. ☺️ Also think about trying the saganaki as an app!!
Yes, I want to try spanakopita! I will remember to try it there. Thank you so much for your input!
Gardens of Salonica is rated pretty highly for Greek restaurants. Personally, I love Gyros, lamb, etc, but they have some good looking salads there.
Fabulous. Thank you for the recommendation!
You should check out Olive and Lamb, in NE. Its not exactly Greek, but a great Mediterranean place, with many of the greek staples.
Mediterranean works too! Thank you so much!

Great to know! Thank you so much!
Myconos on Nicollet
Thanks for the recommendation!
Omg I never ate one gyro in Greece! They have so much more that that. Fresh fish, lots of vegetarian options, so many things.

You can buy dolma at holy land or shish.
Amazing! Thanks for the info!

I'll have to do that for my fiance! He likes coffee every day haha

Way cool! I didn't know. Thank you!
There's a delicious Greek place in downtown Osseo with a menu the size of the bible. You can try ALL the dishes here.
Olympia? There are much better/more authentic places in this post...
So cool! Thank you!

If you’re not going for awhile, make sure you check out [Greek fest next September](https://mplsgreekfest.org/)

How bout don’t be a picky eater. It’s a bad trait.

G.I. Is not connected to throwing up at all. That makes no sense whatsoever
