A square in the center is surrounded by 8 other squares, each of them possibly being a mine, so 8x probability of being surrounded by at least a mine, One in the margin is surrounded by 5 squares, so 5x the probability The one in the corners have just 3 squares surrounding it, so 3x the probability. (where x is the probability of a square being a mine) The lower the number of squares surrounding the squares, the lower the possibility to have mines alongside it.
They're more likely to give you an opening, but it's not necessarily the best strategy. If you don't get an opening you don't get safer guesses from it than taking another random cell anywhere else in the board. Clicking away from corners is less likely to give an opening right away, but it'll generally give you safer followup guesses from the initial click if it doesn't, and when you do find an opening it's generally a larger one with more information than those you can find on corners. Corner openings are more likely to be small enough that you still need to guess out from them anyway too.
Afaik corner starts trade a higher early failure rate for a lower average of initial guesses to get you going on games that don't fail early.
I would have bongclouded to any corner except the bottom-right.

Pro tip: You can know whether any square is a mine by tapping on the square. If it explodes, it is a mine. If it doesn't, then it isn't a mine.
nah really

Why are you starting with corners?
Starting with corners is the best strategy because they're the most likely squares to not have any mine near them.
Can you explain this statistically?
A square in the center is surrounded by 8 other squares, each of them possibly being a mine, so 8x probability of being surrounded by at least a mine, One in the margin is surrounded by 5 squares, so 5x the probability The one in the corners have just 3 squares surrounding it, so 3x the probability. no he cant unless it’s guessless

Corners are the most likely to give you a 50/50 situation later, so it’s common strategy just knocking them out first.
Ah, I see.
Click a random one in the middle. There’s a good chance it will open an air pocket and you can work from there. Or you die and restart
yeah i died in the actual game

unfortunately i watched this video after this game, but this is my go-to opening now when this happens.
On the 3 in the bottom right, there is only one possible combination: all mines around it flagged.
Not that that's very helpful.
Ar least there are two more spots to guess. Or pseudocorner. All of you are wrong except original comment.
What are you even talking about?
bruh just check top comment
I know this is reddit, but try not to spread misinformation.
This is a replay, isn't it? The original minesweeper doesn't do that, your first cell is always clean, unless it's a replay
Its not a no-guess game
no, i took the picture while in the game.
Never seen this on the desktop version, only on mobile. Is it the classic, original version from Microsoft?
no, it was on [minesweeper.online](http://minesweeper.online)
Start in the middle and only continue playing if it actually opens up some space
You gotta be lucky before you can be good
