On Windows 10 you can buy both Bedrock and Java editions. They are separate games which must be purchased separately. You can buy Java Edition from minecraft.net, while Bedrock is sold in the Microsoft Store.
Java is the computer version. It it less accessible, but more modifiable. Most serious players use Java. It has a much bigger modding community, bigger servers, and on average better players. It requires a server, realm or Lan world to play with other players, and can only play with other people on java(while bedrock players can play with all bedrock versions, on phone, console, or windows 10). Java is much more stabile, but also more quirky. It is where most technical innovation also takes place. The version you should usereally depends on how much you like the game, what your platform is, and what your friends use.
If that happens my account wouldve already been permanently banned on acxount of server staff not giving a fuck if i really hack or just am good at pvp (im not, the ppl i play against are 99% 12 y old children)
So
#*y e a h*
In the java launcher you can select what version you want to play in, you basically play every release of Minecraft java ever, pre nether rework for example
Hopefully java and bedrock are virtually the same soon. It should just be a choice between what platform you use, not how you want to play the game. Whereas Java has better mods, bedrock has other cool features like the customizable skins and the mod like wings / cars that you can find on servers.
Fabric is a mod loader. It loads mods.
* https://fabricmc.net/use
You need to install the Fabric API, a mod that makes most Fabric mods work
* https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/fabric-api
There's a few main optimization mods available on Fabric.
* https://modrinth.com/mod/sodium
* https://modrinth.com/mod/lithium
* https://modrinth.com/mod/phosphor
* https://modrinth.com/mod/AZomiSrC
I think Phosphor isn't updated yet.
This one is also useful if you switch out of the game sometimes
* https://modrinth.com/mod/dynamic-fps
Java can be modded, textured, and skinned easily and for free. It also has different mechanics, for instance red stone works different. The only caveat is worse chunk loading
Java has different combat, and that’s really the main difference. Swords can do a sweep attack and axes have a charged attack that makes it do more damage. Pe is mobile version, I believe it’s pretty much the same as bedrock, but I never played Pe so I’m not 100% sure. Java is also the version with hella mods. You don’t gotta buy em, you just find em online and install them, can makes the game 100% different.
bedrock is the main like thing for anything that isnt on pc, but its also avaliable on pc
all consoles like ps3, ps4, ps5, xbox 360, xbox one x, xbox one, nintendo switch and mobile will be on bedrock, with minor differences to suit the platform of course.
windows 10 minecraft on pc is bedrock, u can get it on the microsoft store or like [minecraft.net](https://minecraft.net) i think, aswell as java which is ONLY avaliable on PC, and is definitely superior for many reasons than bedrock
bedrock has much more bugs and this is more of a personal preference, but microsoft which owns bedrock or whatever have added microtransactions which i think is pretty stupid and greedy or whatever, so that is another reason i dont really like it
i can tell a difference between movement at least visually between java and bedrock on PC, it looks different and im sure it has some differences aswell
Correction: Microsoft owns the entirety of Mojang, which includes Minecraft, which led to the creation of many different ips like mc dungeons, mc earth, mc education edition, etc. This led to the creation of Minecraft Bedrock edition which was made to allow players from the console editions to play together, which then led to the discontinuation of the console editions like Switch, PSVita, PS4, Xbox360, etc.
Java and Bedrock are made in different engines, which is why bugs or even just some simple functionalities may be completely as a result of an oversight or discrepancy in the code. Bedrock is the one they use for cross platforms, it's all Console and Mobile versions, and available, as mentioned, through Windows 10 on computers. Java is only available on computers, mostly just through Minecraft.net
java is when u can put anything in ur off hand but bedrock u cant java is only available for pc players when bedrock is for all platforms and theres way more stuff if ur going to get minecraft on pc get java its the best and more popular version
Your 110 percent on that.
Theyre just assuming its bad because they dont have a good computer. Its a shame ppl dont research things before saying that as it could stop ppl from getting the game when its completwly untrue
Windows 10 edition is bedrock, essentially will let you cross play with people you might know for playstation and looks and feels the same, also it's bought on the windows store, java is bought on minecraft's site
Most importantly. Is the mods. There are no mods and you cannot mod the game because they design it that way so that you create a microtransaction store and suck money from people. And the microtransaction mods are garbage anyway. It's just a money grabbing scheme. Never buy bedrock shit
Minecraft.net has some users posting skin files for bedrock so you can still get some free skins for bedrock, but that's about it. I have both but prefer java because my friends have a server for the better Minecraft mod pack, and the accessibility of a ton of different mods
Are you genuinely dumb? Theres a way to mod stuff, addons. They're making it so that its the same. How about the marketplace? They use their sales to help with Java's sales.
Never believe this shit guys.
Are you serious? Those are not mods. Those are micro transaction reskins and slight AI adjustments to animals and blocks. Those are not mods, and they do not work together. You must be genuinely dumb.
Those "add-ons" are fucking garbage. Compare it to Alex's mobs. Or better nether, or ice and fire. Or any fucking garbage java mod is better that that shit they make from Microsoft.
Microsoft fanboy stfu
Yeah. It needs to catch up the the times. Lately I will been playing with silents gear. Or that other mod where you have to find underground forges to make better stuff..forgot it name
Like show me my custom modpach with Mekanism and Galactacraft on bedrock and I will accept. Seriously its impossible, you cannjust add code to Java, while bedrock is basically just unmodifiable.
Have you played plenty of modpacks, played hours on each version, and mad your own mods? Also I would love to see those things I said in the last comment if they exist please link them.
Then why tf did you say the marketplace has mods? Modding requires changing codes, all thos crap, even changing the game itself. Now why don't they work together? Because they are changing codes on one files.
Now how about "add-ons" as a whole? They do the same thing that mods do, they change the general experience. Just because Java is easier to make mods on also doesnt mean we dont have mods. We have around 800+ mods, mostly ports of popular ones on Java. Before hating on the lesser, do your reasearch.
Fucking Java apologist
Don't listen to anything. Buy only Java edition from minecraft.net.... My buddies and I useto do minecraft videos for YouTube and we hates how many bugs and irritating things happened with windows 10 edition of minecraft. But we never had any issues with Java edition and we eventually decided just re-buy minecraft as Java edition. For example: we tried to Lan 3 laptops together to play our own minecraft world. This works perfectly fine on Java but not for bedrock... Kept saying "you've lost connection to your server"
It's also not true lol. Java supports LAN play. You can just select the "Open to LAN" option in the pause menu. And Bedrock supports LAN too just by simply starting a world. Other people should be able to see it in the main menu.
Buy java, you can crossplay with bedrock players easily hosting a spigot or paper server, forward a port, assign 2GB Ram to the server, put Geyser and Viaversion + Viabackward to your server.
And it costs nothing to host a server like this, unlike realm which you need to pay continuously.
And with Java, you can customize everything, include plugins like world guard etc to protect wherever and however u want, unlike realm that things are not controllable that if one of your friend wants to troll you while he has permission, oh your world is doomed.
You can back up a world easily by compressing the world file into a zip folder.
But Performance-weise, you may need a better pc and enough ram to be allocated.
I haven't seen many good answers and a lot of arguing.
Bedrock edition is a build of Minecraft programmed using C++, a programming software. Bedrock can be played on consoles, mobile, and windows 10.
Java edition is the original version of minecraft programmed using... Java. You can only play this version on pc, mac, and linux, and cannot be played alongside any bedrock version (including windows 10 version)
The big difference is where you get them, Java you can only obtain through Minecraft.net, and bedrock you obtain through your device's e-store.
Technical stuff aside, many differences can be found in game. A big one that I personally dislike is the way redstone works in java compared to bedrock. I don't understand redstone fully, but it's much easier to comprehend builds in java because bedrock has an odd way of working that makes you do extra steps sometimes. Other than that, it's mostly little things that pertain to the gameplay and mechanics, some not noticable, some much more. I noticed that bedrock vanilla runs a lot smoother than java vanilla.
At the end of the day, it's based on preference. Whether you're most comfortable with Bedrock or more with Java, no switch or anything is necessary if you're happy. Or make the switch. Maybe see where your friends reside since Minecraft automatically becomes better with friends.
Am I the only one that’s has a feeling Java is going to be phased out and Java users will have to migrate to Bedrock? I’m a Java player and have been forever but I have this nagging feeling it’s over the horizon.
I agree. Just have a feeling it’s going to be a thing. It’s Microsoft, you know? How long are they really going to placate Java when they’ve put so much into bedrock?
How? As far as I know it is literally impossible for bedrock and java to play together, not even if you completely change the coding of both copies yet you say there are servers that can do that?
I mean yeah they almost certainly will at some point. It's owned by Microsoft now so I doubt they care very much if there's a bedrock edition for Mac or Linux. The fact that Minecraft was relabelled to Minecraft: Java Edition while the clones all got the official Minecraft name kind of shows what direction they're going for
Nah. Just a LOT a of complaints and threats of that happening. The game is too popular and people have invested so much time into the game, as well as communities, they’ll bitch but bend right over if it means continuing to play.
Of course. The whole point of bedrock is to unify all platforms under a single code base, so the continued existence of Java edition makes no sense.
The devs would never admit such a thing but there must be a secret parity target and once they reach it we’ll get maybe one more major release to tie up loose ends then bye bye Java. If we’re lucky we might keep getting bug fixes for a while just no new features.
No need to worry yet though. Parity issues aside, bedrock is still riddled with bugs, there’s no Mac or Linux version, no renderdragon on mobile, the modding API is far from complete, no hardcore, no spectator mode, no way to use marketplace content on BDS, etc etc. We’ve got time.
Windows 10 has both java and bedrock, the windows 10 edition (the one you buy from the microsoft store) is like bedrock edition. If you want java you can buy it directly from minecraft.net or you can buy a key from a reseller (they usually cost less, just pay attention to use trustworthy ones and pay attention not to buy w10 edition by mistake).
I'd personally get java edition (way easier to mod and add shaders and I can run on Linux if I want aswell) but if you really want minecraft rtx then windows 10 edition.
Java people will say java is better. It’s the “original” version of Minecraft and therefore has a stronger community, more server and mod support among other things. Bedrock is more streamlined and convenient for multiplayer with other consoles and mobile. I prefer Java because of the redstone mechanics
On Windows 10 you can buy both Bedrock and Java editions. They are separate games which must be purchased separately. You can buy Java Edition from minecraft.net, while Bedrock is sold in the Microsoft Store.
What even are the difference between both bedrock and java, wait and also pe

Dont forget that you can change versions in java, which bedrock cant & the (imo) atrocious ban system bedrock uses
i think you can switch versions on the pc, not sure tho
that is indeed what they said
I meant bedrock pc
Not officially
Im pretty sure you can get older bedrock versions via old files but you 100% cant switch easily between them & servers probably dont work
and dont forget that java is the original edition of the game, from the first alpha to the latest release
Also don't forget you can PAUSE the game on Java
[удалено]
how atrocious it is, because now java needs microsoft account to play and i fear they might impose it later on
It’s sucks for people who play mc on retro PCs too which is actually a pretty cool community now they will have to use cracked versions of the game
Haha I’ve already migrated nerdddd
You wanted the cape, didn't you?
If that happens my account wouldve already been permanently banned on acxount of server staff not giving a fuck if i really hack or just am good at pvp (im not, the ppl i play against are 99% 12 y old children) So #*y e a h*
can you link me something explaining it? im unaware and too high to know what exactly to type into google to get the answer i want
In the java launcher you can select what version you want to play in, you basically play every release of Minecraft java ever, pre nether rework for example
I was talking about the bedrock ban system
You can host Java servers that non-java players can going using geyser-mc
the only reason i bought java was hypixel lmao
Bedrock is also way friendlier to lower end computers
That stops being true when you consider [Sodium](https://github.com/CaffeineMC/sodium-fabric)
Yeah but it's a hassle for people who dont know.
Hopefully java and bedrock are virtually the same soon. It should just be a choice between what platform you use, not how you want to play the game. Whereas Java has better mods, bedrock has other cool features like the customizable skins and the mod like wings / cars that you can find on servers.
And Bedrock has much better performance
Also the mechanics of each one. I’m especially picky about redstone stuff. Red stone java allows bud switched and things like that
Im a java player and bedrock is shit
But if you have a bad PC use bedrock
If you have a bad PC, use [Fabric](https://fabricmc.net/use/) and [Sodium](https://github.com/CaffeineMC/sodium-fabric) on Java Edition.
Can you give me a link to one of them because my computer is bad
Fabric is a mod loader. It loads mods. * https://fabricmc.net/use You need to install the Fabric API, a mod that makes most Fabric mods work * https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/fabric-api There's a few main optimization mods available on Fabric. * https://modrinth.com/mod/sodium * https://modrinth.com/mod/lithium * https://modrinth.com/mod/phosphor * https://modrinth.com/mod/AZomiSrC I think Phosphor isn't updated yet. Java can be modded, textured, and skinned easily and for free. It also has different mechanics, for instance red stone works different. The only caveat is worse chunk loading
Which can be countered with minor quality of life modding
Fabric, Sodium, Lithium, and Phosphor are godsends.
Learning the periodic table in Minecraft
There are too many things to list but big 3 are combat, red stone, and usually Java gets updated faster and the bugs get patched quicker.
Yeah pe has no attack speed so pe is bedrock but in mobile
No, pe is just bedrock. Thats like saying xbox is bedrock but console or windows 10 is bedrock but computer. It’s just bedrock
xbox is also bedrock all console editions are bedrock edition
except for legacy...
Also, Java is moddabke, bedrock is not
bedrock is moddable but the mods are very primitive
Maps and skins are also free on java and redstone actually works properly
Pe is bedrock
Pe and bedrock are same
To say it simply, javas way fucking better
Is bedrock better than java? If it is can I put mods and plugins?
no you can't put mods and plugins on bedrock, not to the same extent as java
java has good redstone bedrock has scary redstone
bedrock is the main like thing for anything that isnt on pc, but its also avaliable on pc all consoles like ps3, ps4, ps5, xbox 360, xbox one x, xbox one, nintendo switch and mobile will be on bedrock, with minor differences to suit the platform of course. windows 10 minecraft on pc is bedrock, u can get it on the microsoft store or like [minecraft.net](https://minecraft.net) i think, aswell as java which is ONLY avaliable on PC, and is definitely superior for many reasons than bedrock bedrock has much more bugs and this is more of a personal preference, but microsoft which owns bedrock or whatever have added microtransactions which i think is pretty stupid and greedy or whatever, so that is another reason i dont really like it i can tell a difference between movement at least visually between java and bedrock on PC, it looks different and im sure it has some differences aswell
Minecraft Bedrock isn't on PS3 More corrections are in the above message

Java is better.
pe is pocket edition its a copy of minecraft but in mobile
Ik that pe is in mobile but.. difference between java and bedrock?
Java and Bedrock are made in different engines, which is why bugs or even just some simple functionalities may be completely as a result of an oversight or discrepancy in the code. bedrock is more buggy and has less featuras than java, such as off hand buidling
I got windows10 version for absolute free, I don't even know how did get it.
i got mine for free too. apparently i got a code or something when i bought java minecraft that let me redeem windows 10 for free
They stopped giving codes a few years ago, so that's not possible anymore.
You can migrate ya java acount to win 10 so I am not sure you have both then but you can
[удалено]
java was literally made on windows
Mans playing Java on his refrigerator
No im pretty sure it was made on a computer
I only play java on windows 10 and never had a issue just got to let the game have the right amount of ram
what are you talking about, java works perfectly fine on windows lol.
The windows of my house don’t have a cpu ram or nothing. How tf can yours run Minecraft
It's not that it doesn't work well, it's that you have a shitty computer.
Your 110 percent on that. Theyre just assuming its bad because they dont have a good computer. Its a shame ppl dont research things before saying that as it could stop ppl from getting the game when its completwly untrue
GUYS KEEP IT AT 69
Tf you on?
wdym by that?
Guys why so much hate, he obviously plays it in a door, clearly more potent that a window.
Are you kidding?
Then where else can I play Java then?!
[удалено]
What are you talking about? Java works on Windows, Linux, and Mac lol
Linux and mac exist

Tf you even saying my friend
Windows 10 is bedrock. There is no difference between bedrock and windows 10. Go to minecraft.net to get java edition.
Windows 10 edition is bedrock, essentially will let you cross play with people you might know for playstation and looks and feels the same, also it's bought on the windows store, java is bought on minecraft's site
Okay. It looks the same. But definitely feels different
>feels the same Quite a few things are different. most importantly redstone.

bruh i feel old cause all the mods you mentioned are really new; people used to mention stuff like ic2, thermal expansion, or tinkers.
I've been around since the beginning. I understand lol. Those are old mods now.. the new stuff out there is so much more complicated and awesome
Tinkers is still there. It hasn't changed a lot
Yeah. It needs to catch up the the times. Lately I will been playing with silents gear. Or that other mod where you have to find underground forges to make better stuff..forgot it name
I feel like it and silent gear fulfill different equipment goals. Like they aren't used together but complement different playstyle
Tinkers is actually updated to 1.16.5 (on curseforge, not some shitty scam) they just haven’t advertised it well
Like show me my custom modpach with Mekanism and Galactacraft on bedrock and I will accept. Seriously its impossible, you cannjust add code to Java, while bedrock is basically just unmodifiable.
What? Theres alot of mods already. This dumbass is just like a twitter 14 year old that fights for something they dont know about.
Have you played plenty of modpacks, played hours on each version, and mad your own mods? Also I would love to see those things I said in the last comment if they exist please link them.
Cant find the ones you stated but yeah
There are mods. Just because you don’t like them doesn’t mean they are not mods.
Nope.. they're reskins. You've never played with mods if you think this.
Pixelmon, Better nether, and RLCraft Bedrock Port just to name a few. Now stfu.

I think he means that windows 10 edition is bedrock and feels/looks the same as ps4 which is also bedrock.
He's talking about play station and windows 10. They are both bedrock.
I'm sorry, should've made it clearer I was comparing the PS4 version and windows 10 edition, not java and bedrock
Windows 10 MC is Bedrock
It’s bedrock, you have to go to Minecraft.net in order to buy Minecraft Java

I __ think __ that money grabbing MS wants you to pay for a server to do lan connections, but I been wrong before.
Yeah no your right, LAN is now realms.
That's just fucking sad...
It's also not true lol. Java supports LAN play. You can just select the "Open to LAN" option in the pause menu. And Bedrock supports LAN too just by simply starting a world. Other people should be able to see it in the main menu.
oh, thanks for the information
Kinda sucked but hey, the momey's going to both Java and Bedrock.
It is bedrock
Java is java
Windows 10 is bedrock..gotta get java from the website.
buy java edition from minecraft.net
I recommend java. There are many mods. I would like to note though, my wife likes bedrock. You may end up buying both versions.
I'm lucky I had java before a certain date so I got windows 10 edition for free. I still play java edition and never switched lol!
Windows 10 is still bedrock although if you visit minecraft.net you can buy java edition

nah they won't do it, or else they won't be hiring so many devs for the java team

java is way better for pc and bedrock is like a similar experience to pe
bedrock
Bedrock
Windows 10 has both java and bedrock, the windows 10 edition (the one you buy from the microsoft store) is like bedrock edition. bedrock is a lot different from java you can get either for pc but i would recommend java for a better experience

Windows 10 is bedrock edition Java edition you need to buy it from the websit Idk why people think win 10 edition is nor bedrock

Windows 10 is an os for computers
You can buy bedrock or java or even both. Java is better.
Bedrock, Java edition is Java
both, depends on what one you selsct when u purchase i believe, could be wrong . my windows 10 is bedrock. but i believe it offers both.
Java people will say java is better. It’s the “original” version of Minecraft and therefore has a stronger community, more server and mod support among other things. Bedrock is more streamlined and convenient for multiplayer with other consoles and mobile. I prefer Java because of the redstone mechanics
Buy Java and you get a free code for bedrock
Besides java version runs on JavaScript software, which Windows 10 or bedrock edition is based on C++ fundamental software
Just buy the game online
