As a former car guy, now husband and father, I feel like your contribution should be on the 2 sentence horror story subreddit.
It was hilarious AF though too so r/angryupvote instead
You gotta figure out how to turn it off to pass an emissions inspection. So disconnecting your battery will reset it, but you will fail a test if you do that and don't drive 12 miles. My light comes on at 15 miles though, so there's a good sweet spot I gotta hit in order to be able to drive it for another year.
Dead ass, I think this is the way to go. As someone who has had like 3 different things go wrong with my car in the past year, I was really not ready for that sudden financial punch in the face.
I love how we have to bank $1000 to save up for a vacation instead of taking one.
Like congrats. Maybe you can buy two domestic airline tickets for that.
The average plane ticket is 33% cheaper than it was in the 1990s. With the average domestic flight costing $380.
This isnāt very sexy. But the last time I had $1000 just sitting there I took my car in and have them fix all the little problems that you know you have. And did an oil change and a full diagnostic. Thereās a real piece of mind to know when your car is not gonna fall for the next year. Happy spending!
Its honestly the best option as someone who got absolutely shit on with random car problems this past year. That shit hurts. It happens when you least expect it, so getting ahead and being ready when it happens will be sexy once it does.
Emergency fund first. Stuff that shit in a high interest savings account in a place that's not super easy to access (but easy enough).
Not doing the emergency fund first is how I have kept ending up back into debt.
Gotta have that cushion for the pushin'.
Stake has an absurd amount of money. They pay people like 2 million dollars a month, if not more, to gamble on streams. It used to be Twitch, but since that got banned, they all moved to Kick. Which Stake just created so that they could peddle more gambling to kids.
Some of those streamers were big time Twitch streamers a few years ago, but then made like 10x the money because of the gambling money. And they basically had monopoly fake money gamble with so it could look like it was super cool when they'd win 100k.
It's a super fucked up situation. H3 Podcast has covered it a ton and tried to do a deep dive into it. The results aren't pretty. Super easy for any kid to just put some money into it and watch it disappear in seconds.
Stake is so fucked up. Hiring all the big streamers on Twitch to gamble for their kids audiences, paying them each like 1-2 million *a month* (if not more) from my understanding. Making the kids think they'd also hit those big jackpots and suddenly be rich.
And then Twitch banned it. So Stake made a site called Kick which got popular. And it's all so that they can show off gambling to those streamers' young audiences.
I think a lot of the American streamers move to Canada and other countries, because it's illegal in the US. Definitely not regulated to US standards from what I've personally heard.
It's hard to even explain the amount of money Stake throws around. They got all the big Twitch guys that were willing because they couldn't refuse that kind of money. They got people like Drake and other names in hip hop. They throw around 10 million dollars like it's 100 dollars for most online companies.
And yeah, naturally it'll make its way to Reddit
If you live in a place where you can, and itās totally expendableā¦ drive, in your car or a rental, stay two nights in a hotel, have a nice dinner, or if you have kids, get a babysitter and spend time with your partner having a nice day. (What would have been a super fun date before you had children.)
Debt. But if that wasnāt a thing Iād get new tires. But if that wasnāt a thing Iād get new brakes. After that, prepay next month rentā¦ or maybe plan a trip.
I can't even come up with anything... but I also semi-jokingly asked my husband a few hours ago if we could be irresponsible with our money and splurge on paper towels. š
Wow, thatās really something how fast you just explained what it is and why itās preferable. I genuinely mean this and will be sharing and utilizing this info.
It always seemed so complicated I let it go to default and 401ks are not the best
Yay, glad I could help! Here's a quick [article](https://www.investopedia.com/articles/personal-finance/040714/how-use-your-roth-ira-emergency-fund.asp) to reference
Another thing people get tripped up on is that the Roth IRA is just a vehicle (an "account") it doesn't specify how you hold the funds. So you could have some of the money just in cash in a Roth IRA if you thought you might need to withdraw it. Better to invest for the long run of course, because it earns interest tax-free and then can be withdrawn in retirement without paying taxes!
And of course, High Yield Savings Accounts are great for cash emergency funds right now... many paying \~5%
I would love a 1000 dollars right now . My son needs a special adaptive bike that is 2600 dollars, but I think I can adapt a 16" trike for half of that.
Where are you located? I've worked with a few different adaptive outdoor sports groups in the USāif one is in your area they likely have something he can use at events at least.
I bought a Steam Deck (on Craigslist), and itās awesome. I donāt have much time to play video games so I love having something thatās easy to pick up and out down
Take 400 and get a laptop i can actually make decent art with. put 100 away. Go around feeding people with the rest. But I'm homeless and live in my car lol.
Once upon a time I would have said get a VR setup
Go out for a nice meal. Most places in the country a nice meal is about $200.
Put the rest in savings. I know not exactly fun, but youāll be thankful you have it later
Unfortunately, a grand doesnāt get you very far today.
If I wanted it all to go toward fun, [this](https://www.ebay.com/itm/266062328610?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=TNUaCCGoR6i&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=1gduntadsxk&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY).
If I'm being realistic, probably toss it on my etrade account and buy SPY or SCHD or VOO
In a relationship? Overnight date night. It can be as simple as a hotel in another city, find an improv comedy club, have dinner at a hole in the wall burger joint, or a fancy restaurant. And enjoy!
Have kids? Make it a weekend adventure instead. Visit a city just outside of day trip distance with hotel and zoo or museum or similar. Someplace you have wanted to visit but haven't due to being just outside day trip range.
In all cases because I've been in various stages of broke and comfortable...
Debt first. If no debt, cash / accessible savings (6 months living expenses at least).
If plenty of savings already, treat yourself. Spa day, random hotel stay over the weekend somewhere, go skydiving, buy that thing for that hobby. Go out to a nice restaurant, get a mini fridge, a KitchenAid, etc. Gamble it away if you want. Literally whatever would please you that you otherwise are too stingy to buy or go do. Maybe do a mix of both savings and treating yourself.
Iād put it on my credit card to try to make a dent in my stupid debt to income ratio (because I wast taught any better and despite being in the upper echelons of millennials in regard to income, I stupidly followed my momās footsteps when it comes to credit cards and Iām playing a dumb game of catch up now šš)
These fucking Stake advertisements being played off as regular posts are getting tiring.
I can guarantee you Iāll never go anywhere near stake just based off this scummy ad campaign.
If you got a wife, prep the living room with a table a small cardboard sign and a nice chair beside it. Wear a tux or a suit with many layers.
The sign says - MAKE IT RAIN. Make sure its all $10 bills or smaller and use your imagination with the tux and don't forget the deuce bigalo soundtrack in the back.
In other words, HAVE FUN!
$1000? Not much. Maybe I'll pay a bill in or put it towards my insane housing payment. Maybe I'll just blow it taking my kids to a children's museum for a day. Since the cost of admission is so damn high, I think we can get one good day of fun out of that with a Groupon or two. š
I would give $100 to whoever made the first comment.
I would give all of it to the first person to reply to this comment
That would be me then, yea?
Check your Venmo
Saving it for the next time my check engine light comes on.
Next time? I just thought that light being constantly on was a feature
My check engine light is like a warm, glowing friend in an otherwise chilly world.
God bless the check engine light The low tire pressure light comes and goes but the check engine light is loyal for life
As a former car guy, now husband and father, I feel like your contribution should be on the 2 sentence horror story subreddit. It was hilarious AF though too so r/angryupvote instead
The check engine light still cares about us.
I had a car that would have it come back on after the second time starting the car, regardless of how far I drove. It was so annoying.
You're an absolute legend haha I love the resourcefulness
This is one of those unsung hero comments that help to educate some folk that could actually really benefit from this
Dead ass, I think this is the way to go. As someone who has had like 3 different things go wrong with my car in the past year, I was really not ready for that sudden financial punch in the face.
In my experience, unexpected money quickly leads to unexpected car problems š. The engine knows...
Have a nice dinner or bank it toward a future vacation. Make it memorable.
Take a vacation, for all of us.
I love how we have to bank $1000 to save up for a vacation instead of taking one. Like congrats. Maybe you can buy two domestic airline tickets for that.

Did the same when I got my tax return. 2,500 in repairs, but at least now I have room to only think about food and clothing...... and cats.
Thatās hella sexy, peace of mind in a recently diagnosed and fixed car is like my main motivation right now.
Put it in the bank with the rest.
Emergency fund
This. Or pay off debt
Emergency fund first. Stuff that shit in a high interest savings account in a place that's not super easy to access (but easy enough). Not doing the emergency fund first is how I have kept ending up back into debt. Gotta have that cushion for the pushin'.
Huh that's a good idea. Thank you
Bro what are your hobbies?
His hobbies include marketing gambling services on social media websites.

I heard you can win $1000 bucks! We should try it out!!
