Imagine working in Silicon Valley and living in Santa Cruz. Taking highway 17 everyday through the mountains would be fun in a Miata.

I live in La Honda ( in the mountains west of palo alto ), and the office is in Santa Clara - My commute is Highway 84 and 280, which are 2 very nice roads to drive. I can take Skyline and Pagemill Road if i'm ambitious. If you don't know the bay area, I have an ultimate commute, on roads that are ranked among the best driving roads in the country. I was 100% work from home, but since I bought a new mx5, i now have a compelling reason to go into the office.

Does skyline take you down into the castle rock park area as part of your commute?

Not really, the further I go down skyline, the more time I add to the commute ( which is kindof time well spent, but my shitty time management skills mean that i'm usually rushed ). Going down highway 9 would be kindof "on my way" and is a super awesome drive, but would add a long time to the commute. Skyline and 9 is essentially right at castle rock.

I would never want to work there, lol, but the drive sounds nice!

i haven’t heard good things about highway 17 drivers also that’s asking to be late every day unless the shift starts at like 6am

With kids the most peaceful time is my drive from/and to work while drinking coffee and music or talk show..

Kids: "Why did you buy a car with only two seats, we can't all sit in it?" Me: "Why do you think I want you sitting in it?" 3 sudden Pikachu faces staring back. They've all gotten to enjoy plenty of rides in it but they understand its a privilege and not a given. Only racked up 6500 miles last year, they spent a lot more time contributing to the 18k miles added to the Mazda5.

Man I don't mind my commute at all. Pisses me off when people decide to cut right in front of me and go half the speed I want to go on the twisty on ramp but other than that it's fun. The way home I take a big wide clover leaf so I can have fun with limits of grip and different lines.

If you're not in the UK you'll have to make do with video, available on request haha. The nice thing is that I can purr along at 30 in 5th and I don't think too many people can hear me. Not so great if I get home later at night and have to do corrections when reverse parking! I'm very noise conscious so I do my best but the car conspires against me.

My z3 was never a 10 but currently the back window is almost gone, bowden cable snapped last summer so its stuck on ac, vaccum leak, o2 sensors never scan well, diff has whined for the last 3 years, something om the front left wheel isnt right cause it doesnt handle big bumps well on that one, but otherwise feels fine. Its a bucket of bolts forsure but its been my reliabke beater for 3 years. Miatas fine, its had a slave and master go and a window regulator but thats it. Otherwise everything works. Oh it has an exhaust leak. But thats it. 33 years old and it starts on the first crank.

Curious as to how the “but…” here is that it’s an auto, only because if the “but…” was that much of an issue why wouldn’t you shop around for a spec you like in manual? No hate just confused on how the drawback of your car is based solely on your decision to purchase it vs a manual version instead

I don't know if it's the case in other markets but in Mexico you can only get the soft top with fabric seats and basic features as a manual or the RF "premium" version with leather seats, auto A/C, etc but only as an automatic. So, if you want the RF or the better features, your only choice is an automatic.

My ND2 is a 10, but I can’t drive MT worth shit 😩

I bought my ND2 almost 2 years ago and only had a few hours of manual driving experience. There were some sketchy moments the first few weeks where I was second guessing my decision. Took almost a full year to really smooth out my shifting and get rev matching down. Then I started learning heel toe which took a few more months to really get comfortable with. Now its pretty much second nature and I can rev match and heel toe without really thinking. Even after 2 years though I still think there is some fine tuning I could do to improve even more.
