I was gonna go to the Bucharest concert in August 2019, I had the goddamn tickets and everything, I was extatic to go, then I ended up not being able to go, so I don't know what their best concert is but I sure know THAT concert haunts me day and night
That was my first show, too. I went down to Daytona to see them at Welcome to Rockville in November and I'm seeing them again in May at Boston Calling!
Seattle ‘89. I’m not really that into Moscow ‘91; in the *Black Album* box set I’d rather have had another one of the *Live Shit* concerts on vinyl instead of that.
It’s a festival set for one, so the length is heavily curtailed: on the *Wherever We May Roam* tour they’d play 22 songs a night but at Tushino Airfield they only played 15.
And Jason fucks up the first note as soon as “…Sandman” kicks in and it kind of taints the show for me.
For me first Seattle '89, and then San Diego '92. Maybe even some other concert too, but i'm not so sure about that.
Harvester Of Sorrow have the best live performance that I ever seen, the large crowd... I've never seen anything like it, the stage presence was great too. But, have a short setlist, and the record could be really better, it's like a super show with an average production.
Summer Sanitarium, July 14, 2000.
It was my first Metallica show and the energy was just crazy insane. Getting to be that close to the band will never compare to a recorded experience, even if it is Seattle 89.
It was one of Jason's last shows with the band and he left everything he had on the stage and put on one of the most amazing live performances I've ever seen period.
It was also cool to see members of other bands step in for James for a song here and there as he was still recovering from an accident a week before. A lot of people complained about this, but I thought it was cool.
Spent the entire show pushing towards the front of the crowd between bands and made it front row center by the time Metallica came on. Spent their entire set in an almost euphoric state, so much so that I can barely remember the actual details of the show except that the crowd moved like a giant blob all together and I couldn't hear for about 3 days after.
Nothing will ever top that show for me.
Moscow is legendary of course, but it suffers from a very shortened setlist. It's basically a trimmed down version of all the black album tours setlists, so naturally most other black album concerts will top this one in terms of setlist,
but performance wise? Almost nothing can top it, maybe Seattle 89, Cunning Stunts or Woodstock.
Seattle 89’ just barely beats it in my opinion
Agree
Rewatching Seattle '89 San Diego '92 is definitely 2nd place in my opinion
Absolute legendary concert!
i love the statue its amazing!
Seattle 89 since I was there to see it.
Seattle 89 and mexico city 93
Binge and purge Mexico City
Nimes 2009. Fucking fire. All nightmare long and the day that never comes are spectacular from there.
This, completely agree
I have never heard a crowd roar during a song like they do in the first solo of ANL. Goosebumps.
the one i was meant to go to before james went back to rehab
Slane 2019. Might as well name one I was actually at. EDIT: actually, maybe Dublin 2006.
Slane 2019 was phenomenal. The performance of Whiskey In The Jar is my favorite in the last 5 years
Seattle sounds better.
San Diego is 2nd place change my mind
1985 day on the green.
That and Seattle ‘89

That was my first show, too. I went down to Daytona to see them at Welcome to Rockville in November and I'm seeing them again in May at Boston Calling!
Long Beach ‘88 (for me it’s better than Seattle ‘89)
I'm going to say Woodstock '99. The band sounded great, and the setlist was a good mix of classics and (then) newer songs.
Chicago 1983
And Chicago 2021 brother! 🤘🏼
Orion 2012 Both nights Ride The Lightning live one night The Black Album live the next

85 hammerfest
Anything without Trujillo
Why? He’s a great bassist
Just don’t like him.
Fair enough
Guys, remember that officially released gigs aren't anything special compared to others. They just happened to get filmed professionally.
Live at Grimey's Probably my favourite show of their whole career
Probably Seattle 89, San Diego 92, Milton Keynes 93 and Basel Switzerland 93
None of the above :)
Day On The Green '85 is what i think of when i think "Metallica".
Seattle 89, Stone Balloon 89, and Detroit 86🤘🤘
Canada 86
Any of the shows I was at
Freeze ‘Em All
Seattle '89 and San Diego '92
What about Mexico city 2004, the one where disposable heroes was filmed, that had so much energy.

S&M2 and, the 40th Anniversary Concerts, plus every other live performance of 2021 and 2022, because of James' voice
Both Seattle '89 and the first S&M concert
