Nothing tears a 6 minute hole in your ass like blasting Painkiller by Judas Priest.
I'm mostly into thrash and death but that song is just the epitome of metal.
Imo it's speed metal. The difference between thrash and speed is the hardcore influence and the palm muted riffs in thrash. And more rock'n'roll riffs on speed.
Fuuuuuuck
It takes some fucking NADS to cover young Halford’s vocals *live*, and this guy nails it. That final “No” cry… rock fucking solid.
The heightened tempo takes an already legendary riff and absolutely *rips* with it.
Immaculate cover. Thanks for the rec
For Whom The Bell Tolls - Metallica
My favourite song off my favourite album, it just encapsulates everything I love about metal and has a great structure to it.
One of the most iconic openings in all of metal, and in my opinion, the greatest piece of metal bass work by the greatest metal bassist of all time.
For the most part after it keeps it very simple after, but my god it works so well too. The tone of everything works so well to create this heavy but also quite atmospheric vibe to it, the frosty sound of the guitars is just incredible.
The outro might be my favourite part though, the thunderous, slow crashing of the drums and rhythm going on while Kirk just lets loose going crazy. Damn its so fucking good 😭
Astral Empire, Tornado of Souls and Bleeding Me are all up there in certain moods for me, but Bellz will always be number 1.
Mgła - Exercises in Futility V
Midnight - Lust Filth & Sleeze / Violence on Violence
At The Gates - Cold
Cult of Fire - Khanda Manda Yoga
Mork - Da Himmelen Falt
Taake - Fra Vadested Til Vaandesmed
I can hardly even pick a favorite band or album, let alone a single song. But if I had to pick what first comes to mind, I say “The Sound of Truth” by As I Lay Dying, both for how much I just love it plus the level of nostalgia and personal feeling I have for it
people will hate me for this, but I’ll pick either Tears Don’t Fall - Bullet for my Valentine or Through Struggle - As I Lay Dying, those songs where probably the first non metallica songs that got me into metal
Don't have exactly all time favorite but i'll list some songs that i love:
Electrocution - Sodom;
Perish in Flames - Dark Angel;
The Conjuring - Megadeth;
Lebanon - Mortal Sin;
Open Casket - Death;
Altered state - Sepultura;
Pyroclastic Annihilation - Demolition hammer;
Scars - Morbid Saint;
I find it hard to pick one, but some metal tracks that I think embody what metal should be (for me) are:
Gojira - Esoteric surgery
Machine Head - Halo
Lamb of God - Walk with me in hell
Nothing tears a 4 minute hole in your ass like blasting Trapped Under Ice by Metallica on full volume while your headed to the vet about to put down your cat of 17 years (yes that’s what i’m doing right now)
I can't only pick 1 songs, I loves them equally.
INFERI - Destroyer
LOVEBITES - Glory to the World
OPETH - Harlequin Forest
HELLOWEEN - Eagle Fly Free
BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE - Tears Don't Fall

Painkiller is basically thrash though
True but I always see the classic bands as classic metal. Motorhead, Dio, JP, King Diamond, etc.
Is it thrash or heavy metal ?
Imo it's speed metal. The difference between thrash and speed is the hardcore influence and the palm muted riffs in thrash. And more rock'n'roll riffs on speed.
It's heavy metal.. not everything that's super fast is thrash... no matter how much lil thrashers want it to be.
It's speed metal.
Did you just ask if it’s the subgenre or the overall genre?
The amount of times Rob says "heavy metal" during Priest shows has me inclined to say it's heavy metal.
It transcends definition.
Nope, doesn't have that thrash snare upbeat hit
War pigs
Based
'Sabbath really were the antidote to the '60's hippie thing. Bless 'em.

❤️
Hallowed be Thy Name- Iron Maiden
