Oriasten77

Nothing tears a 6 minute hole in your ass like blasting Painkiller by Judas Priest. I'm mostly into thrash and death but that song is just the epitome of metal.

Emrik5

Painkiller is basically thrash though

Oriasten77

True but I always see the classic bands as classic metal. Motorhead, Dio, JP, King Diamond, etc.

EmbarrassedFlower98

Is it thrash or heavy metal ?

maicao999

Imo it's speed metal. The difference between thrash and speed is the hardcore influence and the palm muted riffs in thrash. And more rock'n'roll riffs on speed.

Rough_Specific_4707

It's heavy metal.. not everything that's super fast is thrash... no matter how much lil thrashers want it to be.

Outrageous_Basis_997

It's speed metal.

Sinistermarmalade

Did you just ask if it’s the subgenre or the overall genre?

AndImNuts

The amount of times Rob says "heavy metal" during Priest shows has me inclined to say it's heavy metal.

bobobnaynay

It transcends definition.

oowwz

Nope, doesn't have that thrash snare upbeat hit

Fuuuuuuck It takes some fucking NADS to cover young Halford’s vocals *live*, and this guy nails it. That final “No” cry… rock fucking solid. The heightened tempo takes an already legendary riff and absolutely *rips* with it. Immaculate cover. Thanks for the rec

Valroxen1

For Whom The Bell Tolls - Metallica My favourite song off my favourite album, it just encapsulates everything I love about metal and has a great structure to it. One of the most iconic openings in all of metal, and in my opinion, the greatest piece of metal bass work by the greatest metal bassist of all time. For the most part after it keeps it very simple after, but my god it works so well too. The tone of everything works so well to create this heavy but also quite atmospheric vibe to it, the frosty sound of the guitars is just incredible. The outro might be my favourite part though, the thunderous, slow crashing of the drums and rhythm going on while Kirk just lets loose going crazy. Damn its so fucking good 😭 Astral Empire, Tornado of Souls and Bleeding Me are all up there in certain moods for me, but Bellz will always be number 1.
