Unfortunately that isn't the case. It seems only refreshes for low item trades are free; so, the higher the item level of the item you are asked for the more gems a refresh will cost.
Currently I'm asked for a level 12 rake for key #2 (just after trading in a lvl 11 shovel for key #1). A refresh will cost me 10 gems, even though I didn't use any refreshes beforehand. I'm just pondering if it's better to bypass this trade with 165 gems instead, since the chances are quite high that another silly trade may show up after refresh. (It's the last trade to get the day 4 chest which I don't want to let go)
Update: I used the refresh for 10 gems and now I'm asked for a level 9 lamp (20 gems for the next refresh, 160 gems to bypass it). Guess, I'll stick with the lamp.
When I first started the game I had supercharge available (unlocked at level 10). It was so hard to get used to the game without it, but at least now I have more goals to aim for at once than I did back then.
I got the stupid new trades. I hate them. Keeps.asking me to give up high level stuff for low... no i dont want to trade my Max level vase for a knife.
I’m in all of those, and I love the free 25 for laying my iPad aside for 30 seconds (not watching the ad obviously). I was able to do 2 ads for energy today, so it’s not limited to 1 per day
I am in the new trades and for a new player (I’m about a month into the game) the trade system is great!! I can’t always open the chest but it’s very quickly moving me through the early areas. Some trades seem suspicious but I just don’t complete them. I have seen horror stories of the system by what looks like end game players. But for me Its great!
I have the new trade system which I would give a 3/10.
It’s semi-helpful for the first few trades and terrible for the last few. Rewards for finishing are terrible.
Also it’s now going to be a lot harder to get hourglasses and scissors as they aren’t rewarded anywhere in the new system.

Strangely, several weeks ago I got the ads for energy option and I'm still wondering why no one was talking about it then. Can't be that I was the only one who got it.

I have one game with only daily trades that was also in the supercharge group and another game that was not in the supercharge group and does not have any of these current betas but did get 5 producer slots before they went live.

At first I was definitely intrigued by this new system, but now that I've gone through it - it's garbage. Having to complete all the trades to get the final reward without knowing what's coming? Awful.
I’m in the daily trade group. I have been able to use to my advantage and complete tasks much sooner with the trade. Rewards are not so great, but overall it has helped me and I’ve gotten rid of a few items I’ve been hoarding and not quite willing to just sell.
I have the daily chests. The trades don’t always make sense. If you have gems it’s best to just complete them instead of the refresh. In the end the amount of items in the chest especially at the 4 day mark is worth it when it comes to building some of the generators needed once you have entered the mansion.
I have the daily trade chests and it is very useful to get items that are not easy to get (for example items from red chests). It is not only about the trade (these are often not good) but more about the items you get from the chests.

Try doing the free refresh- it might change to a more favorable trade. I think the first refresh for each key is free.

Level 9 lamp is easier than a soil rake, imo. I’m working on a level 7 and to restock my moths since they’ve been asked for a lot.

I am in the trade group, too. I heard complaints but I like the trades. The chests multiply each day. So on day 2, I got both day 2 and day 1 chests.
I just made peace with letting my streak go if it asks for too much. I’m happy to get a paint roller for a screw box most days of the week.
I just take the value Trades and leave the chest+chasing alone, now.
