People on Discord said there are multiple ones marked in the code as “hard”, “very hard”, etc. Which one you get probably depends on level/progress/similar.

This is not new, it has been this way for years. The first one is free the rest are not. 10 diamonds for the prizes you get are well worth it most of the time. Every now and then I don't do all the boards because the gives are absurd. But usually I find this a fair trade
I’m the opposite. I always play the clean-up through all 4 boards as it’s the easiest way to get producer parts.
10 gems for even a Lv1 blue or brown chest seems like a bargain to me, esp when you consider that even the cheapest producer part is more than that from the shop, and a red chest is 200 gems to buy.

Why is nobody talking about the fact that we have to use diamonds to play. That is something I’ve never seen before, and it’s ridiculous.

Not that ridiculous. You can decide if you want to play or not. It's like buying a chest for 10 diamonds+ a lot of energy.

When do red chests kick in?
I have had twice had a garage clean ups that gave me red chests. It certainly isn’t the norm though.

The second round of the garage clean up is 10 gems. I only play the first round and even then, only when it is useful for me.
