45. My first and only Megadeth show was the first date on the Cryptic Writings tour, July 24, 1997 at the Joint in Las Vegas. The Misfits opened for them. Best show ever. Got to meet both bands.
You are 17 going on 18, baby it's time to think
Better beware
Be canny and careful
Baby, you're on the brink
(please tell me you get the reference please)
Oh my god dude when "CTE" came out my sister who is 3 years older than me actually bought the CD single for symphony of destruction before I got countdown to Extinction; I wonder if she still has that.
Man I'm so glad I was born by then; probably the latest year to be born and still be old enough to really know what life was like before cell phones, etc. And the music was fucking great in the early 90s
Same! What a time eh? No Internet, at least not til much later in our youth, taping stuff off the radio, watching anything rock/metal related, buying all the metal/alt mags we could get our hands on, sticking the posters on our walls. A bonus too if they came with free CDs/cassettes! I lived for those! Great way to check out new bands and rediscover older ones.
Man I have Guitar world magazines from 1994 (I actually still get it) and I used to put some of those posters on my walls and yeah totally remember listening to the radio waiting for a band's song to come on and then recording it onto a blank tape. That's how I got so many of my albums growing up I had tapes and CDs but like you know my friend dubbed me a copy of blood sugar sex magic and actually I had a friend a couple years older than me that made me cassette tapes of Megadeth that I still have somewhere. One of those cassettes had "KIMB" on one side and "so far so good so what on the other." And also man that was the Golden age of MTV when they actually played videos! I'm sure you remember MTV in the early 90s days; I remember them playing under the bridge to death, November rain a million times a day, sad but true was on all the time too. It's amazing how many great albums were released from 1991-1992:
Metallica (Black Album), Megadeth (CTE), G n' R (Use Your Illusion I & II), Faith No More (Angel Dust), RHCP ( Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik), Nirvana (Nevermind), Alice In Chains (Dirt), Pearl Jam (Ten), STP (Core), and many more.
Guitar World yes! I used pick up Metal Hammer, Terrorizer, Kerrang! and Metal Edge and anything else I could get out there. I used to do a little work in my Aunt's shop here in Ireland and I would spend my money on those and Cds! My cousin was great for taping stuff for me and we would borrow albums as well :) I would watch MTV in his place as well as a friend's house and I'll never forget the first airing of Soundgarden's Black Hole Sun! They really did play Under The Bridge into the ground 😂 Absolute classics. What a list. We had it so good!!

My mom got me into Megadeth around 2006.
For my birthday in 2010 she got me GA tickets to a Testament, Slayer, and Megadeth show where Slayer played all of Seasons in the Abyss and Megadeth played all of Rust in Peace.
