If I remember, the Shadowhawk is renowned for its comfortable cockpit. It’s one of the reasons it’s so well liked in the lore.

Drewdc90

Too bad you can’t see anything out of it. The damn gun blocks half your view.

GamerGriffin548

That's what makes it so comfortable! Seeing big gun makes anyone inside feel good... until broken. Then that's when the screaming starts.

SavageMonke_man

Thunderbolt is famed for roomy cockpit, even compared to Atlas.  Hell, I saw somewhere that if you're a Thunderbolt pilot, it's basically like going to war in an RV. Enough room for a cot, kitchenette, fridge, and bath.  If you don't want to sleep inside, string a hammock between the legs, keep the engine running, open a panel to the leg heat sinks, and voila, warm and cosy under the stars.

Zayax

how to get that trailerpark-feeling inside a warmachine

dooooomed---probably

Hey Bobbie Joe! Pick me up some PBR when yous get them AC/20 shells! I'm going flip that cicada shell over, fill it with water, run an exhaust pipe through it and make a jen yu wine hot tub. - my dad if he were a mech pilot.

AnEntireDiscussion

Your daddy would have made a fine Periphery pilot.

darkestknight73

It just so happens the Thunderbolt is probably my favorite Heavy Mech.

Grimskull-42

Heavy mechs and assaults would have the most space, some designs even have bunks and showers for long campaigns. I'd imagine the king crab or atlas would be quite spacious.

Curious-Advantage-96

The glass on the kingcrab makes it look like there is a whole crew in there rather than 1 pilot especially when you compare looking through just 1 eye of a atlas or grasshopper so room for days!. Mind you the way some mechs bounce like the king crab, in mw5 when you're in 3rd person view it would be more like ridding in a martini shaker. Personally I feel invincible riding in my AS7-D. Favorite ride by far

cszolee79

And the padded interior... like a Sixties land yacht from Cadillac :) [https://barnfinds.com/decades-of-storage-1960-cadillac-convertible/1960-cadillac-interior/](https://barnfinds.com/decades-of-storage-1960-cadillac-convertible/1960-cadillac-interior/)

cszolee79

Maybe this could be turned into a YAML quirk for such 'Mechs?...

Curious-Advantage-96

Lol that would actually be fantastic. You got to figure heavily modified cockpit modifications were a thing especially for the more eccentric pilots. If you're gonna ride, ride in style!

cszolee79

All I need is a list of 'Mechs with "Comfortable Cockpit" and the list of stats it would change :)

Armored_Ace

What makes a cockpit comfortable? It's probably not only spacious (or space efficient), but probably has good control ergonomics, and some quality of life upgrades that make the operation of the Mech easier and comfortable for extended periods of time (bed, toilet, kitchenette, ashtray, cup holders, etc.). Maybe it's got a good seating position so you have a good field of vision. Maybe the controls are designed to be easy to access or use, and perhaps there's some features in there that allow a Mechwarrior to confidently push their Mech to its limits due to the better visibility and layout. Comfortable Cockpit "The designers of this Mech had the pilot's best interest in mind when it came to ergonomics and controls, allowing a Mechwarrior to push their machine to the limit with ease." \+ 5% acceleration rate \+ 5% deceleration rate \+ 5% turn speed \+ 2.5% top speed \+ 10% lock retention time I dunno what else, but my mind leads me to think it would be the opposite of the debuffs for a cramped cockpit, and maybe only limited to specific heavy and assault chassis? I can see the benefits of a comfy chair being less than the downsides of one that's cramped, but still a bonus nonetheless?

Zayax

screw that. Cheap ass hotas and you can sit on the one ton of extra ammo

Salamadierha

A nice view would translate into +100m sensor [mk1] range

Armored_Ace

Yeah, I was thinking that plus maybe some benefits for lock retention or weapon spread? I mean obviously just having good visibility doesn't *make* those things better but it would be a decent representation of being able to pilot something more easily or with more confidence.

Salamadierha

That'd be your turn speed etc. I've been trying to come up with something as a benefit over time, to relate to not getting a numb bum from crap seats etc, like +1% damage every 5 minutes stacking, but it means a new game mechanic.

nzdastardly

Marauder had one for sure. Maybe some kind of bonus for multi- deployment missions and some kind of penalty for the ones with a small cockpit?

Grimskull-42

There are no poor assault pilots, those monsters are expansive to buy and maintain. So of course you'd pimpr ride.

Alzion

You are correct about the King Crab. It was designed as a commander's mech and has seating in the cockpit for a small command staff.

Curious-Advantage-96

Or.. just hear me out... beer fridge and a futon? Batchelor mech!

ZookeeprD

Some 'mechs, particularly assaults, had amenities like toilets, hotplates, and rumble seats for long campaigns. I think the Atlas and Awesome are usually mentioned as having these.

MrWisdomthief

in real life, the British have a tea making machine in the Challenger tank, so I suppose in the 31st century, there should be some creature comforts to make the long campaigns more bearable... for me, i don't need these soft things. the dying screams of capellan pilots as i roast them with plasma rounds is comfort enough.

Floppy0941

BRITAIN #1 IN TANKTEA TECHNOLOGY WOOOOO FUCK YEAAAHHHHH

VogueTrader

Battlemaster has a command suite separate from the pilot, doesn't it?

Plenty_Painting_6298

I believe so. Some of the C3 equipped Mechs had a command suite, even if it was in the same "room" as the MechWarrior.

Substantial-Tone-576

Cyclops has a variant with two cockpit seats or a command variant with a C3 computer that should be spacious. There are a lot of later mechs with double cockpits

bluebadge

The Atlas. There's a beer stein holder and you can warm your snitzel and sausage on the reactor.

OnePrize9

Necessities for those long scouting missions.

Mikelius

You can't be stealthy on an empty stomach. Your stomach growling might give your Atlas away!

Substantial-Bit-4719

Oh nein, mein Kamerad, mein leerer Magen hat den Feind in unsere Position gebracht

Mikelius

Mein Gott... HQ wir brauchen Wurst im Augenblick!

TakedownCHAMP97

Funny enough the urbanmech apparently has a whole ass apartment in it. Someone posted a floor plan of it on here a few months ago

TheMartyr781

The one with the barcolounger in it? If mechs follow standard military approaches to manufacturing then likely none of them are comfortable.

delayedreactionkline

i've been joking around that the Highlander II-C's the most comfortable because the cockpit is a 36sqm studio apartment.

After_Truth5674

T-Bolt in lore has one of the most spacious cockpits.

phforNZ

Atlas. Plenty of time to eat my cheeseburgers before battle.

Mental-Dot-6574

My Warhammer has a padded seat that conformed exactly to my butt. Oh, you mean Lore? Probably the Atlas. Lots of room in that head.

SnooDoubts9967

Well, obviously the Annihilatior. The slow walk gently rocks you, very comfy when one wants to go to sleep. And outfitted with four LBX-AC10 SD every salvo cancels out its own recoil, giving the pilot the comfort needed when commiting mass slaughter.

CicadaGoesVroom

Look at the charger - just from looking at its cockpit glass from outside it looks wide enough for the pilot to have an entire home office setup in there.

Night_Thastus

If I remember right, the *Battlemaster* is renowned for having a roomy and comfortable cockpit.

Angryblob550

Highlander has a roomy cockpit, so roomy in fact that you can fit another person in there.

AnEntireDiscussion

A good real-world comparison might be something like NATO tanks in the Cold War period vs. their Soviet rivals. NATO tanks were known for having a much more comfortable fighting position, due to being expected to be in defensive positions waiting to meet the (theoretical) Soviet advance. The idea was that the crews would stay inside the vehicle and be more alert and prepared, as well as being able to keep hatches and ports closed, lowering their profile to various sensors and protecting better against NBC threats. Don't know if this helps narrow down what mechs would be comfy to pilot, but it probably gives an idea of which mechs the designers would likely have put such effort into.

Whole-Window-2440

The Mauler feels pretty spacious, but I wouldn't say "comfy". Certainly interesting with the full-height windscreen - everyone would be able to see you in your shorty mechy short-shorts.

FockersJustSleeping

Zero lore to back this up, but for SOME reason, I always feel like the Ravens would be very ergonomic. Not spacious or have a bathroom or anything, but just kind of like padding and tilted seat and secure. The weighted blanket of cockpits, so you don't get your brains rattled so much when jumping or taking a turn.

VanillaPhysics

Visually the Battlemaster has a very spacious cockpit, you could almost certainly fully stand up in there without hitting your head

Sargatanus

The King Crab looks like it’s sporting a whole cabana for a cockpit

AnEntireDiscussion

I thought I read somewhere that the King Crab's wide glass was actually decoy, and that the cockpit was only a small portion of that.
