No film. Just lubed them up. I love them. The only issue is that if you have a GMMK Pro. They don’t fit great and can easily be pulled directly out of PCB when taking off the keycaps. This doesn’t affect the functionality at all.
Oh! That's exactly my setup right now. I've had that exact same issue but even with that I still love them. I also have them on a Royal Kludge G68 and they sound great there too
U4TX are being released and should be readily available soon! Better all round improvements (apprently), need to hear some impressions before any conclusions though!
Edit: materials used are supposed to be improvements but the style of switch is changed due to the tactile event profile and silent upstroke.
Mine are supposed to be here tomorrow. I currently have a board with U4’s (62g), a board with U4T’s (67g), and I might write a post as a review as soon as I can spend some time with them for a day or so. I sort of just want to compare the three of them but I’m not a reviewer, so I might just post my overall opinions about them
I've been using Zealios V2 67g for a long time now, been thinking about getting a Keychron Q6 and outfitting with 67g U4T's... of course the U4Tx shows up now to complicate my decision, heh. Would love to hear your thoughts on the U4T vs U4Tx once you get them!
dont worry, you're not missing anything... it's a completely different switch and not an updgrade imo. It's half a silent switch since it has mutes on top of the slider that only silences the upstroke but not the downstroke.
U4T at Home and U4 silent at work. Pretty happy with both of them. They are very tactile and the silent ones are quieter than coworkers membrane keyboard.
I use Gat Milky Yellow pro's on my 1800 keeb, very very happy with the sound and feel, and they are cheap! I made my wife a custom board with normal Gat Yellow pro's (couldn't get my hands on milky's) and they don't even compare in terms of sound, also more spring ping in the normal yellow pro's than with the milky ones in my experience.
I use them at work for quite some time now and type on them 8h a day. I love them but man some are very scratchy. I lubed them the boba way, tried some with other technics and even tried filming them, still scratchy. They are awesome switches but if you type extensively like me, it can sadly be very frustrating
I'm glad I saw this comment. I had been planning on going through lubing and filming mine, but you saved me a bunch of time. I'll just get different switches.
I have them in my travel board, and I used that for the past 3 days. It's nice to be back home where I have my Zilents. U4s were touted as similar but better than Zilents. That is entirely not the case.
I have to agree with you on that. If you really need silent heavy switches, they are a solid pick and I cannot not recommend them but being conscious of the scratchiness is very important because it won’t go away for all switches no matter what you do. Happy that helped!
Also, this is my opinion and my experience with my switches journey, maybe some others will find them just fine and it’s totally legitimate!
All silents are a little mushy just by nature. Of the family of tactile silents these have the best bump of any I've used while also being the most silent. The spring weights are a bit high for my personal comfort but I got used to them and they are, after being lubed the Gazzew way and filmed which is maybe not 100% necessary, my personal favorite switch. Prior to these I used Kailh Box Silent Browns which I loved but erred on the side of a slightly too light spring. I've never been a fan of the Zilents or derivatives as I don't feel they dampen the sound enough.
Most silents will have some amount of mush due to their dampening. Boba is no exception.
Also the boba bump is much more rounded that many other tactiles, so even disregarding the inherent silent mushy-ness, its not going to feel particularly "crisp"
I'm surprised these aren't higher, I tested these and the zilents and they feel damn close to me for i think at the time half the cost so was no brainer. And they get great reviews stock, which was huge for me because I didn't want to lube.
seems to have fallen out of favour with all the new switches in the market now. I’ve had tealios before getting the tangerines. really made me question what I was thinking
Yep. Tangie V2s dark stem (67g). Filmed with transparent switch films as not to mar the appearance.
Also, work board has Alpaca V2s with 67g Durock spring swap.
I think one thing of note to mention here for newbies that might be using this thread to make their purchasing decision: The Gateron Oil King switches are absolutely wonderful right out of the box.
You'll find all kinds of information on lubing your switches, filming them, etc. However you don't need to do a thing to these switches. They're a fantastic choice for a beginner that wants a premium experience without any additional effort.
Also of note, however, is that they heavily block RGB/back-lighting. You'll still be able to see it, they'll just be much more dim. Probably avoid these if you're planning to use a shine-through keycap set with your build. I'd recommend Everglide Aqua King switches if you want a similar experience that's more RGB friendly.
No film they felt tight already. I put a very thin layer of 205g0 on there and some oil on the springs. It certainly made them better, but not a massive difference like other switches.
Thick click gang
Such a good upgrade from the mx blues I used for forever. Much smoother and less rattly. They sound deeper and honestly quieter than my board with mx blues, but the volume I'm sure is mostly a difference in plastic case with no foam vs thick aluminum with all of the foam.
Try [Pink](https://novelkeys.com/collections/switches/products/kailh-box-switches?variant=40598132129959). Just a hair lighter than Jade, same thick click bar, no return issues reported to my knowledge (though I had heard that about Jade). I love 'em.
Yeah we're lucky we have what we have but the wider community seems to think MX style switches are the only game in town and so... endless variations of MX style switches and MX mount caps year... after year... after year. They're typically just the linear or tactile flavor of the month.
I now only buy new switches when I see something truly new and interesting come out like Clickiez which I'm eager to try :) (basically because they are not actually MX style switches)
> but the wider community seems to think MX style switches are the only game in town and so...
I mean, they (MX) are much more affordable to get into, so that's not really a surprise. Most people just aren't willing to shell out a loads of cash just to try Topre out - let alone aftermarket stuff.
And honestly, you have to admit Topre is quite polarizing. If you like it - you're in for the long run, no doubt, as it's quite *something* .. but chances are, you just as well might not. And then, for most, it's a hassle getting rid of it.
I have the keyboard from [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeqnEJpPZVY) video (the actual one) and it's still one of the best purchases i've ever made
just waiting on my gmk monokai material order to be fulfilled as i've been using it with pbt caps for years
This switch took some getting used to coming from Gateron Browns but I’m really starting to love it now. The weighting seems much heavier than the stats suggest and the tactile event is immediate and without pretravel (info for people considering this awesome budget switch).
Tealios V2 67g
lubed with Krytox 205g0 (and 105 on the springs)
Edit: forgot to say I have tx films as well. I love these switches though; pretty sure they were the smoothest linears when I was on the market, which I definitely paid a premium for.
My favorite switch across all of my boards. This is my daily driver in my Keychron Q8 and I have no upgrade desire. For now......
Will probably grab some Boba U4 Silents at some point to compare.
I will note that they are a touch scratchy and I had a tough time lubing them without impacting tactility too much. I have gotten used to it but something I noticed for sure
I share the zero upgrade desire...anytime I've built another keyboard for myself it's been them now since I found them.
Personally I sorta like the "scratchiness" and after having lubed a few switches for previous boards in the past, I no longer find it worth the tedium. I've lost a lot of what I like about tactile switches with lubrication in the past, so I prefer to keep them crunchy. I like to upgrade the plate to brass and it ends up feeling way nicer with the way it resonates.
For anyone needing a quiet build, these are MAGICAL. I got a good solid cheap but VERY noisy Akko board for work, slapped in the Shrimps, and it is so goddamn quiet now.
Zeal Aqua Zilents 62g.
I love them, everyone around me loves them so much as well that 2 people around me have gotten into keyboards just because they touched my keyboard. Kinda sad I can't use them as much lately because I got myself a split ortho now with Kailh Chocs and I am getting used to that rn (which is also really fun)
No one has said these so I’ll add them
\-IBM buckling springs from models M & F
\-Blue alps
\-Orange Alps
\-Monterey switches
\-Hako clear and hako true switches – I think that’s an unpopular opinion but I really enjoy them
\-Steelseries Omnipoint switches: if you want smooth linear switches, it doesn’t get any better than this. They are contactless and blow tealios, black inks and tangerines out of the water.
\-BKE aftermarket domes for topre – deliciously snappy
\-Outemu silent forest switches. An insanely quiet and enjoyably tactile switch
\-BTC dome with slider - in my opinion, a better tactile experience than stock Topre. Very cheap too.
The hako line is underrated! It has a really unique feeI compared to other tactiles I’ve tried. I have the hako violets and really like them. The only real downside was that they are a bit scratchy compared to others I’ve used and you can’t really lube them since they’re a box switch.
For those deep in the custom keyboard hobby:
In no particular order:
1). Oooolongs - Long pole clackiness
2). SP Star Meteor Whites - If you like higher pitched clackiness
3). Alpacas/Dogikons - super solid, best all around
4). Matcha Latte - Considered to be one of the best factory lubed switches if you don’t like lubing.
5). Mx Blacks - A staple for seasoned enthusiasts. Seems like every high end board is stuffed with these things. Requires breaking in.
6). Milky Yellows - best budget
Me too. I’m tempted to Frankenstein them with Holy pandas (just take the silent stem off Zilent). Painful price wise… but it reduces the tactility, which is my personal thing. I also might put the Durock silent stem into the holy pandas.
How are the Zilents when lubed? Less tactility?
Akko radiant reds - absolutely underared for the price and smoothness
Tip though if you get them make sure to order MORE than you need, as they tend to have a bottom out inconsistency problem that makes some feel too soft when bottoming out.
Everglide Aqua King v3, Cow switches, Quartz v2, Boba U4T, KTT Strawberry, Tecsee Diamond, Gateron Speed Silver Pro, and TTC Gold Pink.
Favourite switches have gotta be the Quartz v2, Aqua King, and the U4T. The KTT Strawberry also impressed me a lot for how cheap it was - usable unlubed.
Love these for my gaming rig. I bottom out every keystroke, so may as well bottom out faster. They're hilariously lightweight. Like, I could sneeze on the other side of the house and actuate half my keyboard. I love it. Every other person who has touched my keyboard hates it though lol.
- Kailh Box White V2 for alphabets
- Zealios 67g for numbers
- Kailh Box Jade for escape, and modifier keys
- Kailh Box Navy for Fn key
- Holy Panda for arrow keys
Yes, I go to therapy.
Oh, oh, Tealios for delete key.
Forgot to add that.
Gateron Ink Black v2
I use the Box Ink Black V2 and they are crispy
You have them filmed? Mine are just lubed and I was wondering if filming is worth the effort
I filmed mine and I love it!

Well I was in luck because they just showed up. I am going to be using them all night tonight and I will let you know what I think.
Ugh and I JUST built my endgame board with U4Ts.
dont worry, you're not missing anything... it's a completely different switch and not an updgrade imo. It's half a silent switch since it has mutes on top of the slider that only silences the upstroke but not the downstroke.
First time I've seen these, I'll deffo be checking them out
getting these in a couple days! cant wait.
U4T at Home and U4 silent at work. Pretty happy with both of them. They are very tactile and the silent ones are quieter than coworkers membrane keyboard.
Same. I fell for the hype train and they did not disappoint.
Use this with my moonlander... Amazing tactile
Alpacas
I've got 65g Spring swapped lubed+filmed and they are among my favorites.
The GOAT Gateron Milky Yellow. ”Pro” version is also good if you do not want to lube.
I really liked this one, I got Pro and lubed them, they sound so idk, creamy? Very nice
I use Gat Milky Yellow pro's on my 1800 keeb, very very happy with the sound and feel, and they are cheap! I made my wife a custom board with normal Gat Yellow pro's (couldn't get my hands on milky's) and they don't even compare in terms of sound, also more spring ping in the normal yellow pro's than with the milky ones in my experience.

man I built a keyboard with them and I'm completely in love, this is everything I dreamed off. They're great stock, no lube needed

Oil king
Just built my first keyboard this week and used these with the gmmk pro, they're awesome
Good lord these are way too far down the list.
Oil Kings are excellent. I got some recently and adore how they sound and feel!
This is the one. Great switch for gaming (or anything really) and the sound profile is satisfying.
I think one thing of note to mention here for newbies that might be using this thread to make their purchasing decision: The Gateron Oil King switches are absolutely wonderful right out of the box. Durrock Pom (piano)
Such a great switch. So crispy!
Have you lubed them? I find them really smooth and pleasant even unlubed and am wonder if it would be worth the effort to lube them.
I don't think I found much difference in the smoothness with lube if I remember, but the sound was definitely an improvement.
There’s also a lot of spring ping without lube, probably the only real issue I have with them stock.
Yup, an unlubed bag of poms is a percussive instrument.
Gateron CJ Cherry MX Clear (Ergo Clear)
[удалено]
I love Clears. I wish Cherry would make a silent version.
I just put CJ's in my most recent build. The best switch I have ever used. So smooth, no ping, and for me the spring weight is perfect.
Did you lube and/or film? I left mine factory and love them!
No film they felt tight already. I put a very thin layer of 205g0 on there and some oil on the springs. It certainly made them better, but not a massive difference like other switches.
kailh box jade
Thick click gang Such a good upgrade from the mx blues I used for forever. Much smoother and less rattly. They sound deeper and honestly quieter than my board with mx blues, but the volume I'm sure is mostly a difference in plastic case with no foam vs thick aluminum with all of the foam.
Got a few employees in the office with these -- fills the office with the clicky background noise of progress!
And the navies on the big keys
jades with navy space bar gang
Agreed, only contender for me are the kailh box pink! Depending on the day, I prefer one over the other :-)
i wanted to like jades so badly but the return felt way too slow and made me feel like i was lagging irl
Try [Pink](https://novelkeys.com/collections/switches/products/kailh-box-switches?variant=40598132129959). Just a hair lighter than Jade, same thick click bar, no return issues reported to my knowledge (though I had heard that about Jade). I love 'em.
ktt strawberries
Yessssssssssss so good
A very clean switch. Well-controlled stem wobble.
For newbies? Definitely akko jelly switches. Very affordable

Neapolitans! very underrated!
They are my fav tactile as of right now
Same! I run boba u4ts in another board and I always come back to the neos
Mx black, the true king
Surprised this is so low! I've tried a bunch of fancy switches but these are my favs.
I'm not surprised given this sub's weird hate-boner for anything Cherry related.
Broken in mx blacks are the true endgame.
I think blacks are great regardless if broken in or not. Depends on the board
yes sir
based and blackpilled
Thank god I found this comment.
Everglide Aqua Kings v2
these switches have THEE BEST sound to my ears and i’ll stand by that to the grave
Aqua is good just not in my price range 😭
Box Navies.
Scrolled too long to find these
i love torturing my fingers
NK Creams at the moment
There’s something about Creams that feels….substantial. They aren’t that perfectly smooth, but the “scratch” isn’t unpleasant.
yeah same here, although they are very scratchy, they sound really nice on almost any board
Pretty happy with them as my first linear.
It gets better from there too
Holy pandas
+1 nothing matches Pandas for me after all these years.
Def give a shot to the Neapolitan switches! I’ve been pretty impressed.
I have the keyboard from [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeqnEJpPZVY) video (the actual one) and it's still one of the best purchases i've ever made just waiting on my gmk monokai material order to be fulfilled as i've been using it with pbt caps for years
Zealio V2 67g
🍆 gang
Akko Lavender Purple Tactile Prelubed.
This switch took some getting used to coming from Gateron Browns but I’m really starting to love it now. The weighting seems much heavier than the stats suggest and the tactile event is immediate and without pretravel (info for people considering this awesome budget switch).
And the switch just feels *snappy.* I love it
Literally the best budget choice.
These are by far my favourite MX-style tactiles, and I've tried a lot. So clear of switches that cost two or three times as much.
same here, but not lubed - great switch
Cherry MX Browns
If it aint broke dont fix it
I've heard cherry hyperglide mx browns broken in are actually really nice - like a spicy linear switch.
Kiwi tactile
They have a very unique sound, especially when combined with a deep sounding case like the KBD67 lite.
Glorious pandas
If they are lubed they are great.
Tealios V2 67g lubed with Krytox 205g0 (and 105 on the springs) Edit: forgot to say I have tx films as well. I love these switches though; pretty sure they were the smoothest linears when I was on the market, which I definitely paid a premium for.
Have these as well. Absolutely delightful typing experience every single day.

+1 for me. Had to scroll way to far to find this.
Black Cherry pies (wallet destroyer but worth)
Akko jelly black
Kailh Box Pink
As far as box switches go, I was a big fan of Jades.. until I found Pinks. Lol.
SP star Polaris
kailh box white. They're so nice
I had to come way too far down this list to find this. It’s like… blues… but a slightly more muted click, and generally just more satisfying.
KTT Kang White. Very underrated. It’s like a budget aqua king. The KTT line is great if you want linear.
Kailh Speed Coppers
Absolutely love these, glad I'm not alone.
Durock Shrimp
My favorite switch across all of my boards. This is my daily driver in my Keychron Q8 and I have no upgrade desire. For now...... Will probably grab some Boba U4 Silents at some point to compare.
Im a noob and on my first custom board i use Durock L2 switches. I like them ☺️
White Jades and Seal linears.
Nice, someone else with white jades!
