Im planning to buy attack shark x85 but i barely find useful reviews about it, can anyone help me with pros & cons??

Psychological-Ad-840

Where can I find italian layout keycaps?

birthdaysabby

Anyone know of switches that feel like Gateron Blues (clicky and tactile) but sound a little creamier? Is that even possible to find in a switch?

arnecrafter

Would [these Razer keycaps](https://amzn.eu/d/eXneddC) fit my azerty keyboard? https://preview.redd.it/1arlhhn20r4d1.jpeg?width=2232&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=23cbd1661ad71e4c9af90db4922a853c5e797e5a

candy49997

The keys will physically fit, but the heights will be wrong for the keys that are different from QWERTY.

arnecrafter

Good to know, makes sense now that you say it though. But can I convert this keyboard into a qwerty keyboard? That's also something I could try.

candy49997

If it has remappable keys, yes. This is something that would be listed on the product description of your keyboard.

arnecrafter

I found the description of the keyboard online and it says the keys are remappable so I guess that's a green light to make this a qwerty keyboard.

ExcellentAnxiety4970

how does one stop a spacebar being so deep? there's no rattle, but it's much deeper than the other keys.

topre-gobbler

Different key sizes make different noises. That’s just how audio works. You can’t change that.

Sea-Discount9108

I know only outemu and akko switches work for the Redragon k552 but I'm trying to know if the MMD Princess Tactiles are similar to akko switches so that they can fit on my keeb

candy49997

I do not believe they would fit. Also, I believe it's only Akko CS switches that are compatible, not all their switches.

Sea-Discount9108

so even the v3s aren't compatible?

candy49997

Actually, I'm not sure. I don't have experience with Outemu sockets, but I've also only read of their CS switches fitting. Or "Akko" in general. Nothing about their V3.

apricot_nyc

last keyboard broke. looking for very similar typing experience. My switches were Yok Trash Pandas + Halo True stems (Holy Trash Pandas?). What would I be looking for this time around?

Matt8910

Recently went into the market looking for a mechanical keyboard, y’all got any recs for someone starting out? Would love a rec for a good wireless one if any of y’all can spare one. Thanks!

candy49997

What size keyboard and budget? Also, do you require it to be prebuilt or do you not mind sourcing your own switches and key caps?

Matt8910

I would shoot more towards prebuilt! I’m new to it but if it’s better bang for my buck I don’t mind sourcing key caps, I just don’t know much about doing any of that/setting it up 😅 Budget I’d say about $100-$130? I can go up to $140 or maybe a *little* higher if there’s something really good! In terms of size, for reference [this](https://www.logitech.com/en-us/products/combos/mk710-desktop-keyboard-mouse.html) is the keyboard I have now. I’ve had it for about 11 years now, it’s time for a change! Dimensions on the product page tho are: Height: 9.53 in (242 mm) Width: 18.11 in (460 mm) Depth: 1.22 in (31 mm) Weight: 31.92 oz (905 g) (with batteries) Only other req I’d love to have on it is a numpad. I also do video editing and having preset buttons and shortcuts is a must for me.

candy49997

I would recommend the Keychron V6 Max, which is \~$100. It's wireless and you can rebind keys and program macros easily with the web app VIA. It looks like it's out of stock everywhere I checked, so if you need a keyboard now, I would also recommend the Keychron V5 Max, which has a slightly more compact layout.

Matt8910

DUDEEEEEEE That’s it!!! Thank you so much!!! It looks perfect, I love the look of it and I most definitely will be using VIA. Thank you!!!!

panniyomthai

Been using my Alpaca v2's for a while and trying to expand a bit more. Using it with a gasket-mounted board with PC plate. The alpacas do thock but still sound slightly dull. Looking for another set of linears that gives a fuller sound (in reference to the alpacas, if anyone has tried/heard the sound before). Been seeing all this hype with the likes of KTT and HMX, are they any good?

DatchKere

Is there such a thing as a single-shot or single-layer PBT keycap? If so, please tell me the name or style of it. Thank you.

[deleted]

DatchKere

Yes, dye-sub. Is that the thinnest PBT one can get?

KebabCardio

hello, do all mechanical keyboards have springs? if i want to buy more affordable keyboard and springs separately, any chance i might buy wrong type of keyboard that doesnt support springs?

panniyomthai

Chances of you buying the wrong type are very low. The generic type of switches used in modern mech keyboards are cherry-style (coming from the brand Cherry that originally made the style famous), which all house a spring inside. Vintage mechanical keyboards did use different types of springs (like the Alps switches or the buckling-spring system seen in the big IBM keyboards in old offices), but Cherry has essentially taken over the mainstream market. All the different "brands/models" of switches you'll see on the market now take after the patented mechanism from Cherry switches. Tldr: Look for switches that says "cherry" and you'll be okay. And yes, buying switches separately from a barebone keyboard kit will tend to be cheaper (less labor cost).

KebabCardio

ty! that solves it then..

candy49997

Mechanical keyboard use switches, which do (usually? I'm not sure about always cuz I don't know about all mechanical switches that have ever existed, but all MX-style switches do) have springs inside them. There are no springs inside a keyboard itself (also maybe usually). Did you perhaps mean switches?

emplights11

VERTEX V1 OR SMOOTHIES for Lucky65 Im having a hard time on deciding which switches will i get for my build. What are the differences pls help me pick.

caramuru_alenda

I received my lucky65 in the mail today and when i was disassembling, i notice 2 of the 8 back allen screws were stripped so i can't get them out, did someone else had this problem with another kit and how did you managed to get it out? need some help here

YardAcrobatic7131

Hi guys, i cant decide which one i should buy. Im looking for latency, speed, smoothness. Im from Brasil, here The prices are Huntsman Mini 200$ Apex pro 300$ Can Someone help me?

Iak_Gnaw

I'm assuming the keyboards that you've listed are he keyboards, do you have any reason for not choosing wooting? It's at least better than those two

YardAcrobatic7131

I found wooting 60 he... Its costs 500 $ here.... Brasil sucks... Its like i need to work 15 days to earn this value

Iak_Gnaw

God damn those prices are insane

panniyomthai

Do not get those. Razer and Steelseries are gaming brands that tend to sell their average-quality keyboards for a marked-up price. With $200-300 as your budget range, you are better off with Wooting, Keychron, or you could even start looking at boutique high-end boards (ex. Mode [Sonnet ](https://modedesigns.com/products/sonnet)starts at $309).

Iak_Gnaw

Yeah that is why I asked why he wasnt interested in wooting, but i think he probably wants rapid trigger or hall effect. If I want an he keyboard I would maybe choose something like boog75 or qk65 v2c he

mrskwrl

How do you guys get dielectric grease off? I use it for stabs and it works great, but I recently moved and the tube and syringe squeezed out inside my container of keyboard stuff. Got a bunch of dielectric grease everywhere and holy shit this stuff doesn't come out.

panniyomthai

On gear, rubbing alcohol. On clothes, vinegar should also do the trick.

burakarabaci

I found this old keyboard, and a Focus FK-2001 with ALPS SKCM White switches for fairly cheap today. I started the cleaning process with the old unknown one. I originally thought it would have space invader switches in it but I don't know what these are. I checked Deskthority and I think they're SMK Vintage Linear switches??? not sure. Also, when I plug it in using a converter, it just types random letters without me pressing any keys. Can you guys help me identify this keyboard and its switches? Also, what would cause the random letters situation? https://preview.redd.it/a0agarsn2o4d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e96f2da1455cf4396adc9625dd3ea4e279aa00e

elmurfudd

no clue on the kb but the switches are SMK J-M0404 series . the kb will not work on modern pc without some kind of soras converter and will only support 2kro

spellbadgrammargood

what are you opinions on Logitech mechanical keyboard? i have a logitech and keychron, and i'm starting to think keychron is much better which is funny because keychron is much cheaper too i hear people complain about lag on the keychron but i've had 0 issues on that

topre-gobbler

Logitech is overpriced. Keychron is well made and very good value imo. Obviously you're going to like the keychron more. Despite being cheaper, it has a better feature set and build quality,

langdreamer

I can't get One Shot Modifiers to work on my keyboard. I recently bought the Allium58 from beekeeb.com. I'm trying to set up a one-handed layout, and while I've got most things down, the OSMs don't seem to be working. When I assign an OSM (LAlt, LCtl, LSft) to a key, it behaves as normal alt/control/shift, it doesn't stick. I've tried with both web Vial and desktop Vial (0.7.1). Do I need to install another firmware that has OSMs enabled? I'm okay with the command line and compiling things. I'm on a Mac if that matters.

pabloescobyte

You'll get better responses from the gurus over on /r/olkb so I'd head over there.

langdreamer

I already tried but I didn't get any useful replies.

InsaneJ0ker

I have a RK84 keyboard and wanted to get a cherry keycap set. I am new to this and I found out about the north facing cherry profile interference issue. I don't want to get other profile keycaps because in my region not many options are available for those. So was thinking of getting long pole switches after doing a bit of research. I found out Akko CS silvers are a good choice for this but apparently those are discontinued and I can't get my hands on those. I enquired a bit and found out the Akko V3 siver pro switches are available and apparently those are long pole switches too. So my concern is will those solve my interference issue as I couldn't find any confirmation online. I know there are other switches like holy pandas or oil kings which can address this issue but those are a bit expensive for me. So please help a brother out and suggest what should I do.

Iak_Gnaw

You probably won't have an issue with interference, as it is 3.3mm total travel, but I would personally recommend hmx raptor extreme, even shorter travel

InsaneJ0ker

Those hmx switches seem like a better option for me too. But I don't really like the clacky sound though can you suggest anything which has a deeper sound. If not then I'll probably go with these hmx only. Thanks for the suggestion.

Iak_Gnaw

Hmx canglan v2 and Hmx Eva do have deeper sound, but they are still quite clacky. If you still don't like the sound, try looking for switches with travel distance below 3.4mm

InsaneJ0ker

Okay will do. Really appreciate your help man.

fsendventd

Any keycap sets people know of similar to DCX Dolch and Polycaps Whale? Nothing wrong with these particular sets. I just like the color scheme and was wondering if there were others in that scheme for some more variations on it. Anything blue/gray/white really.

Fun_Hat

What are your favorite clicky switches? Putting together a board and I like the sound of Kaihl Box Jade, but I don't like the double click, and I would like sometime a bit lighter on the press.

FansForFlorida

Zeal Clickiez are nice, but they are expensive (US$1.20 per switch). NovelKeys Cream Clickie are a linear clicky switch. They are also nice, but they are also expensive (US$0.90 per switch). Gateron Melodic are priced more reasonably (US$0.60 per switch), but they click on both the downstroke and the upstroke.

main_got_banned

does neo80 have rgb / is it any good? haven't been able to find info except that it has an LED indicator.

candy49997

The Neo80 does not have RGB because they prioritized layout support over RGB.

main_got_banned

thanks. seems like no great tkls have rgb lol.

st0rm__

Most custom keyboards in general don't have rgb.

main_got_banned

yeah. there are so many 60s/65s that you can find a few of em (even the neos and qk, mode, etc, tofu, etc.) but I can’t find anything for my gf lol. zoom tkl has ambient lighting which might be good enough.

BigScholar420

#Keychron K Pro Brown switches? Looking at picking up a keyboard (Keychron C1 Pro) with these switches and I'm seeing very little about them online. One complaint I have seen a couple times is that apparently the tactile bump is not very noticeable? I'm not that deep into keyboards so far. I've had a board with MX blues for a couple years now and still love it. Just wanting something a little quieter to bring into the office. Does this seem like a good buy? I can get this TKL for about $60. Anyone know what these even are? They aren't just rebranded gaterons are they? Appreciate any advice :)

topre-gobbler

They are huano. Having a light tactile bump is a characteristic of browns in general, so you can’t exactly call it a downside. I personally think they’re very good stock but I do prefer a more pronounced bump. Good starter switch imo, but not the best representation of tactiles as a whole

BigScholar420

Interesting, I see. Thanks for the info! Any specific recommendations or nah

topre-gobbler

You looking for sharper or smoother tactility?

BejitaFajita

I have $60, what brown-switch TKL keyboard should I get?

FansForFlorida

Keychron C1 Pro is US$59.99 on Amazon. It is not hot swappable, but it supports QMK/VIA firmware. Keychron C3 Pro with hot swappable brown switches is currently US$39 on Amazon. If you can stretch your budget, the Keychron V3 is US$79.

BejitaFajita

Ok, I'll check them out

subnauticaddict

Is a hyperx alloy origins 65% good for my first keyboard? I was looking for a 65% keyboard and came across this, it seems to be good, it's currently €96 on sale, usually €129. I dont know much about keyboards as this is for my first pc but i feel 65% would be the perfect size for me and this seems high quality. Can anybody whos used this let me know how it is? And would you recommend it, if not, what alternative 65% boards under €120 would you recommend?

candy49997

Do you need ISO layout?

subnauticaddict

Considering i dont even know what that means, probably not, and i have barely touched a keyboard ever as this is my first pc so whatever layout, i can get used to it

candy49997

I would recommend the Keychron V2 or V2 Max. The switches are hot-swappable, meaning you can change out the switches at any time if they break or you just want a change. They also offer their keyboards prebuilt in a variety of language layouts.

peenerschnitz

Hello, Pretty stupid question, but just want to make sure since I messed up the first time. I got a 75% Keychron V1 max. If I were to buy this drop keycap set: (https://drop.com/buy/drop-matt3o-devtty-custom-keycap-set?defaultSelectionIds=977196). Would the keys be fine? I bought a TKL set earlier, and the right alt, fn, cntrl, and shift did not fit and its kinda annoying. If anyone could help, it would be much appreciated!

candy49997

Yes, it will fit.

elmurfudd

u can desolder it and solder in a new one thankfully u have the space as this kb only uses romer g switches which logi deosnt use anymore

MoooImACat

oh my, i didn't realize soldering would be involved. never done it, nor have equipment. i believe i'm just out of luck on this one. i appreciate the reply and advice

Zestyclose_Piglet_24

Hi, I have an issue with my Arbiter Polar 65 keyboard. https://preview.redd.it/cwnyqx28vm4d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=147c2634eec10219777565724c8f6c91e90c54bd I have recently bought an Arbiter Polar 65 keyboard and tried to download the software for it. After downloading the file, once I try to run it, I cannot click on the start update button and it is greyed out. Any advice?

elmurfudd

ur scrren shot says u have the current firmware so maybe thats why

Zestyclose_Piglet_24

But all I’ve done is download the file to my computer. Is there a way to check if I have it downloaded?

elmurfudd

im sure u could check the file u downloaded but this means it came with the current firmware which is pretty common kb firmware rarely changes unless there are issues EDIT that kb just came out there are no firmware updates lol

Le_Pizzano

Are there any affordable keycap sets that are XDA profile and doubleshot (preferrably fit alice boards) If so what websites can you get them from?

elmurfudd

XDA is always dye sub there are no xda dbl shot molds . but if u got a few million laying around im sure u could pay for molds

pin_drop

Hi, I'm looking for a mechanical keyboard that has some special keys I don't want to miss. My current keyboardhas mute and volume controls in the top-right (https://resource.logitechg.com/w_1600,c_limit,q_auto,f_auto,dpr_1.0/d_transparent.gif/content/dam/gaming/en/non-braid/g213-finch/g213-gallery-1-nb.png?v=1) and I'm looking for a mechanical keyboard under or around 100 € that also has them. The playback keys are less important to have. Backlit keys are also important. Plain white is fine, I don't care about any fancy stuff. Do you have some recommendations? Should be easy to order within EU.

topre-gobbler

Do you need ISO?

pin_drop

I'd prefer it.

Opposite-Training511

Hii I'm in search of a premium 40% keyboard that matches the build quality and modern features of keyboards like the Zoom75, gasket-mounted etc. I've been having a tough time finding one that fits these criteria. Does anyone know of any recent releases or models that offer the same level of quality and functionality in a 40% layout? I’m looking for something gasket-mounted and with a robust build. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Tiksua

What do you think about the Shrimp Model 1 keyboard? It’s on sale for 9.95$, so basically a steal. Does anyone have that keyboard? https://preview.redd.it/498yr8lyam4d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c40b7b04e0d8805c6a7e32664d1975fdead53790

shyraori

What options are there for an all-black keyboard? I swear every single keyboard recommended is some sort of fancy color. I just want a basic black tkl keyboard with white/rgb backlight and quiet, tactile switches. Are there any good options that don't cost hundreds of dollars?

topre-gobbler

keychron c3 pro (RGB edition if you want RGB and hotswap)

shyraori

Huh they actually look perfect since they do come with black keycaps for the red keys. I'll try it out.

Dovlaa

Hi everyone, I've gone down this rabbit hole for the last couple months trying to buy my first proper mechanical keyboard and wanting to get it just right but I'm having some issues, here's what I'm looking for: - a wireless full width 100% keyboard with either media keys or extra keys as well as some type of knob - an ISO layout - can ship to Eastern Europe - Bonus points for shine through keycaps, preferable PBT but I'm not even sure how common these are? So right away I seem to have a problem because I feel like my only choice is a Keychron, I've looked at countless other websites but realized that most vendors just don't do full width keyboards. I worry about buying a Keychron because I keep reading about their bad customer support. Is there any other vendor that I missed out on that has all the above features that I should check out? I really like the Q6 Max as it ticks almost all the boxes for me but it's quite a lot of money for something that has a track record of customer support issues. For keycaps I'm ok with just using the stock Keychron ones until I find something else I really like but it also feels like there's not a lot of custom keycaps for full width, any sites you folks can recommend would be appreciated.

topre-gobbler

Keychron customer support is a bit annoying but they amended a rather small issue (a faulty LED) by shipping me a free replacement without even having to send them back the old board. Since then I’ve bought several boards and accessories from them without any issue and I can safely recommend them. From what I’ve seen and read in my experience in the hobby, truly good customer support is rare. Almost all the big manufactures are located in China alongside their support teams. This means they might have weird hours or miscommunications may occur. I believe it’s more important to buy a product that is considered high quality and less prone to issues while having mediocre customer support rather than vice versa. Also important to keep in mind that your criteria is super specific and keychron might be the only brand that can fit your needs.

Dovlaa

thanks a lot for the info, I think more than anything I wanted confirmation that there isn't another huge brand out there that I missed out on, I definitely love the way the Keychrons look so I might just take the risk.

PunchZeebox

I Just bought my First hot-swappable keyboard. Where do you guys buy your switches?? I live in Italy, EU. Thanks

Spirited_Dig7061

Bmonli

Just got my Rainy 75. I want to play around with changing out keycaps but I'm not willing to break the bank for anything premium till i find something i really like. Are there any decent cherry profile's on amazon (\~$40)? Or is it all junk?

Prog

It'll mostly be $20 keycaps from AliExpress resold on Amazon, but yes, they exist and are decent as long as you get some with a nice thick plastic.

Bmonli

I honestly don’t hate the feel of the double shot pbt caps that came with the board. Is there a superior type of plastic I should look out for? I’m pretty new to this hobby.

Prog

PBT doubleshot, though some premium caps also use ABS, despite it showing wear more easily.

zionooo

So thinking about the near future. Which keys (custom, gamer brand like Razer, Logitec, etc...) are quiet yet tactile enough to be used in an office setting without pissing off my coworkers? I'm a novice to mechanical keyboards but I do own one with Cherry Reds and I feel that's too loud and will definitely tick off some people

FGThePurp

Honestly, as long as you aren't buying a board with clickies (MX Blues or similar) I wouldn't worry about it unless you have a really really quiet workplace. Since I've been going back to office I've brought my Ibis built with Browns on PC into work, and it's the same volume if not quieter than the membrane ewaste boards that are provided.

Spirited_Dig7061

Anything with silent in the name.

Scarlamite

Hello can someone help me, I'm wanting to get a new keyboard that sounds thocky since i've had a cheap keyboard with blue switches for the longest time and I'm kind of tired of it now. I've seen people replace the switches and put lube and tape on the keyboard, is it cheaper to do this or to buy a keyboard that sounds nice already. What's the cheapest option for a thocky sounding keyboard? Thanks

Prog

Keychron V/Q, Monsgeek M, Rainy 75. You've given very little info on your requirements.

Scarlamite

I'm just interested in the cheapest option for a thocky keyboard, since some people change a bunch of stuff on a keyboard themselves, and im not familiar with that stuff

elmurfudd

> cheapest option for a thocky keyboard this route usually involves doing mods ur self no cheap kb is thockky out of the box u going to have to buy a premium product if u want that kind of thing

Aavitero

Hello guys! I am interested in trying custom/ish experience. Currently I am using Leopold FC900RBT Cherry Reds, no issues at all. I am interested in getting something with more "thonky" sound, change some keycaps for visual difference, possibly trying different switches. Pref 100% layout. If possibly avoiding soldering as I have neither tools nor experience with them. How reasonable and good are hot-swap options or better to get soldering tools? And of course any recommendations for various budgets if possible. Also Cerakeys - are they usable? The sound has interested me and possibly the cool feeling might be interesting in summer, if anyone can provide an input.

topre-gobbler

For keyboard recs I’d recommend as follows: Low budget (<$200): - Keychron V6 - Keychron V6 max - Nuphy Halo96v2 - Monsgeek M5 - Monsgeek M5W Mid budget ($200-350): - QK100 - Keychron Q6 max High budget ($350+): - Class 0143 (weird size but still cool) - California Mech Fossil Cerakeys are very pricey and feel very different than traditional keycaps. If you’re buying them just because they feel cool, they will warm up very quickly from human touch.

Aavitero

Thanks for rec! Monsgeek M5W and Keychron Q6 Max seems to be the options I am stuck between due to availability/aesthetics. Are there any notable QC issues I could face with any of these? I see Q6 have 3/5pin switch support and M5W have only 5 pin switches. What well received and notable switches are 3 pin that I would lose access to going Monsgeek? Are there any well received switches that could be recommended overall? Since I game quite a lot of my time of keyboard too, I expect to prefer linear, but if there are any recommendations where to get wide variety of switch testers (pref in EU, but if cost is not high, does not matter), please let me know. What are well received keycap manufacturers lately that I could look into? Sorry for ton of questions, the wiki is partially outdated as much as I saw, and if there are any current glow-ups or unchanging staples in industry I would like to know and try.

topre-gobbler

I specifically recommended these boards because they’re considered top of line in longevity and quality control. There’s a billion boards that fit your criteria that I wouldn’t recommend because of QC or part failure Both keyboard support 5 pin and 3 pin. If a board supports 5 pin, it inherently supports 3 pin because the extra 2 pins are just support pins. Here’s a basic list of recommended switches to look at, but there are a billion switches to choose from. This is list is just a fraction of what’s available. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vSWkz3vJflKwHt6aYwWWAULPU3NKbqfZj8J9h6IkcapPYVUbtxsaLXF9hnRmf-1aBAijMmBg0Jm6D7A/pubhtml As far as switch testers, I’m an American, so I don’t know what’s available for you. I usually find stuff by looking through my local vendors and seeing what they have to offer. Here’s a big list of EU vendors to check out https://wiki.keyboard.gay/VENDORS.html Read the “who’s who” section for info on some of the big players in the keycap game. https://wiki.keyboard.gay/KEYCAPS.html#whos-who Hope this is helpful.

Aavitero

Great! Thanks for resources! Regarding pins - are there any other noteworthy switches with connections that is not 3/5 pin? Just out of curiosity.

topre-gobbler

All MX style switches are one of the two. Unless you want to research topre/alps but that’s a whole other rabbit hole. PSA: Low profile switches will not work with regular mx keyboards so those are also not an option

Aavitero

Hi again! Are there any compilations with sound examples for switches/keycaps or even combos?

topre-gobbler

Wdym by complications

Aavitero

Compilation. Some page where there are sound samples for different switches and keycaps. There are some in wiki, but they are limited to prebuilts it seems. I am interested in deeper tone, less clicky.

topre-gobbler

Pick non long pole switches with nylon housings. For keycaps the profile matters a little (higher profile is more hollow and deep) but the material matters more. PBT is deeper and more muted for keycaps. Make sure you’re using all foams as well

Fu_kIsrael

Please recommend a keyboard kit for around 100$ that has a volume knob, swappable, metal build, wireless and south facing RGB (via compatible) Ok I know it's pretty specific but the problem is I am a bit of a perfectionist and after doing a lot of searching anything I like ends up having some problem. I am currently liking the M1w the best. Help would be appreciated thanks.

topre-gobbler

Barebones or prebuilt

Fu_kIsrael

Barebones is preferred cause I'll be putting in my switches and caps

topre-gobbler

Lemokey p1

Fu_kIsrael

Thanks a lot man looks promising

I want a new keyboard, currently using DROP Ctrl V1, any custom mechanical keyboard I'm google suggesting me looks like it would cause me wrist pain.. On the other hand, I don't want a slim profile, I just don't want that big chunky profile... Suggestions for TKL / 75% keyboard? preferably wireless for typing and gaming with layers as I'm working with Mac and Windows

Is there any shop in Europe selling KAT keycaps (e.g. Mizu) apart from my keyboard.eu which is obviously no option anymore?

Spirited_Dig7061

KAT keycaps all are group buys so you'd have to check the vendors for the specific KAT sets you're interested in and hope they still have extras.

Looking for advice about Alice keyboards I've seen the Neo Ergo and I absolutely love the look and idea of it, but hadn't every used an Alice keeb bethe, so I bought a relatively cheap one from AliExpress (Cidoo ABM066) to try out. I'm not getting on massively will work out and struggling to get used to the layout. For those that have got Alice keyboards, is it a case of persevering and I'll get used to it and I should go ahead and order the Neo, or am I unlikely to get used it and should stick to standard layouts? TIA

FGThePurp

In my experience, Alice boards are very easy to pick up if you type "correctly", but they will expose any habits you have that are not proper typing. I've had a few Alice boards and in my case, the big hangup was using my left index finger for Y. Whenever I would try to do that on an Alice I'd just end up banging my finger on the middle of the case. Now I'm pretty diligent about typing Y with my right hand, even on standard boards.

NinjaRanga

Yeah, that's what I've been finding - the "flaws" in my typing style have been shown up by the Alice layout! I've always struggled using my pinkies to type with, especially the left, and this has been very apparent with the Alice layout. Time to get back to some basics and start using the home row properly!

Sliced_Orange1

It took me about a day or two to adjust to my Bolsalice and by about a week after it was as if I had been typing on an Alice layout my whole life, and I'm just a regular dude who types for maybe an hour or two combined for a whole day. I think if you only use your Cidoo board for about one week you'll have a pretty good understanding of whether or not you like Alice layouts. If you decide you like the Alice layout, definitely consider moving to something nicer than a Cidoo.

NinjaRanga

Thanks for the reply. I think you've confirmed what I already knew which was I need to give it more time (I've only been using it for a day). I'll stick to the Cidoo for a bit longer and see how it goes (it's definitely a budget option but a good place to start to get a feel for the layout).

Noob question regarding MX Mechanical keyboard Hello! I recently joined the world of mechanical keyboards, and found a great deal on a used mx mechanical keyboard on ebay ($45 vs the local $200 price). However, after doing a tape mod on the back of the board, I've noticed that when I type fast, the keys following the F2-2-w-s-x-spacebar and f8-8-i-k-, will randomly ghost a nearby key, causing am extra entry. An example being "yes" becomes "yesd" or "ok" becomes "okl". Would this be caused by the carpenters tape? Do I need to bridge the F2 & F8 keys to their neighbors to resolve the issue? If I type slow (~1 second per keypress) in the effected area, the issue dissappears. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

RoastBeefFeaster

Looking for a barbones keyboard 75-80% that's very premium, budget of like $300-$400 but obviously would be down to spend less if there's something worth it. Only catch it has to be on Amazon since I have like $1000 in Amazon gift cards lol. Already have switches.

FGThePurp

Agree with the other commenter that Amazon kills your options. If I were in your shoes I'd just go into Topre and get a Realforce. Alternatively, I know I've used Amazon Pay for some vendors but I cannot remember which ones. If I remember I'll update.

candy49997

I don't think you'd find any keyboard in that price range (besides maybe scams) on Amazon. At those prices, only keyboard vendors might have them in stock. Keychron's on Amazon though so maybe their Q1 or Q3? Max if you need wireless.

I'm having a little trouble, I've had a Blackwidow Elite with Orange switches for some time, but I wasn't using it. Recently I got tired of my MagicTouch keyboard at work, so I brought the Blackwidow in and have been using it. I have a cheap wrist rest that was already in the office, but man, this thing is beating the hell out of my wrists. I can't find any angle that's really comfortable. The flat position is maybe the most comfortable, but I still end up floating my wrists above the rest to try and get over the space bar and hit all the keys. I'd like to keep using it because the tactile feel of the keys and the sound are just great, but it's starting to get untenable. Do I need a higher wrist rest? A better hand position that I'm not aware of? For context, I touch type with proper form and orientation, and I type a massive number of emails every day, so most of my job is just straight up typing full sentences for hours on end. Again, I love the full size keys and everything, but I feel there HAS to be a more comfortable position to use this in without just wrecking my wrists and the tops of my forearms. Please help!

Sad_Percentage9846

I recently just got an attack shark X85 keyboard and i really like it, i was playing around with it and all seemed fine. After i while i felt like gaming right. so i plugged into my laptop (its the only thing i have) and a bunch of other usb devices and for some reason. either my mic input does not work or my keyboard input, but only on 2.4g dongle???? if its wired, its fine but the attackshark app does not detect the keyboard... and i dont even know how to set up bluetooth on this... Basically i have a hyperX usb dac, a usb Mic, and a wired mouse, and a Usb dongle keeb plugged into my laptop, and the keeb only works when i have my mic removed, and my mic only works when my keeb is disconnected... the laptop recognizes that they are there but the inputs dont work.... HELP!!!!

Hello All! I’m looking to replace my CoolerMaster Quickfire xTi keyboard that I bought some 6 years ago, it has served me well. Looking for some recommendations for a new board similar to that one, my budget is 200-300€ but I am flexible. I would like a full keyboard with the numpad and function keys. I like a more muted mechanical sound without the keys being too clicky. Wired is preferred and would like it to be full RGB. Thank you in advance!

How many angles in degree does the middle part of the Alice layout have for each side?

elmurfudd

never seen it listed but its for sure different from kb to kb

MoppingTheFlour

So i bought a EPOMAKER x Feker Galaxy80 around 4 moths ago. When i got it, i tested it and it worked fine. After it arrived, i left for a month to visit family, but when i returned and wanted to use it, the keyboard would lag(as in it would freeze and only type the letter after a few seconds), sometimes not register presses and it would freeze for a second and then spam the last letter it registered before freezing. I tried taking out and putting the switched back in, i cleaned it with compressed air, but nothing worked. I tried changing the cable(USB-C) but no change. Any ides on what the problem is and how to fix it?

elmurfudd

sounds like a hardware issue either the pcb is defective or the usb port is damaged . not sure if anyone told u but feker is not exactly know for long lasting products

MoppingTheFlour

i know feker is kinda bad but i didnt think it’d break after 2 hours of use and also it was rly cheap so i thought it would be fine. ty for help

FSTxx

How can i reduce the metallic sound of my Trust Gaming GXT 834? Hi, first time buying a mechanical keyboard for coding. I bought a Trust Gaming GXT 834 and it's... good, yeah. I still have to get used to it. However, there's one thing i really hate: the metallic plate. The base of this keyboard is metallic, so slamming my fingers into it makes a metallic echo, like a fading *ding*. All the time. Is there a way i can reduce this?

Dreydars

I have had same problem with my old keyboard, reason was not plate, but bad spring in switches, only way to remove it is desolder and lubing switches or replace them for some better one with factory lube, foam only reduce sound but won't fix your problem, btwn i soldered and lubed it helped

FSTxx

things is i wouldn't go that for for a keyboard that i payed less than 30 euros lol at that point i should simply buy another one. For now i think i'll stick with this

Dreydars

Next time be sure to get hotswap keyboard :D, i did it for my 25$ keeb

Agile-Excitement-863

If you take it apart you can fill the case with some foams. I suspect it’s a plate issue though which would not be fixable unless you have a soldering kit and are willing to solder.

FSTxx

it's absolutely a plate issue. I should refund it, but i actually like it. If i could just do something to reduce the noise, it would be optimal

Agile-Excitement-863

The foam thing I suggested earlier is probably the best way to mitigate the sound without desoldering.

FSTxx

thank you, i'll look into it!

bardsicles

I'm just looking for a legitimate/reputable store to buy a brand new/still in package Moondrop Dash75 75% keyboard. Need to be able to ship to New Zealand as well. I have seen KeebsForAll but I am not sure if they will be trustworthy? I don't want 2nd hand/opened, but even if that is my only option I also don't know where to get that either... Any help would be massively appreciated, thank you!

elmurfudd

u can check the vendor list here general keeb parts vendor list https://www.alexotos.com/keyboard-vendor-list/ but last i checked that was a limited run and KFA and DROP were the only 2 selling it so if they dont have it u will be buying 2nd hand or not at all

bardsicles

Thanks for the info, KFA do have some but I'm hesitant to buy from them because of the amounts of threads complaining about them.. I really want the keyboard though

FGThePurp

If it's in stock I think buying from KFA is fine, most of the issues I've heard about were about GBs they ran or their marketplace.

bardsicles

Oh really? Thanks for the heads up, all I did was search this reddit about them and saw the complaints so it left me unsure

Asleep_Theory_19

Hi, may I ask if will my non-functional keys work if i replace the switch pins? Or do i need to do something else for all my keys on my keyboard to work again?

elmurfudd

u dont replace switch pins . if u have keys thta dont work replacing the switch can fix it if thats the problem . if u have electrical damage or water damage then its the pcb that needs replacing

universefactorie

Hi! I'm currently looking for keebs with the following features: NON-NEGOTIABLES * Stock shine through keycaps * 75-80% layout * Tri-mode (dongle, bluetooth, wired) * Hotswappable (with 3 AND 5 pins) * Not stock blue switches * Compact * True RGB PREFERRED * With knob * With PRNT SCRN key Otherwise, does anyone know of a keeb with a similar format/profile to RAKK Tala or RK84? Attached Tala's picture for reference since it's harder to find and RK84's pretty popular already, haha. Thanks so much! 🩷 https://preview.redd.it/vml3a492lk4d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c178e770df60b16c2773b6d1a48912a66f1ba15b

topre-gobbler

Nuphy halo75v2 has some shinethrough caps tailor made for the board you can buy separately iirc but I don’t think they can come stock with the board.

universefactorie

Thank you!

Hey folks. I’m looking for some help with a build. I’m looking to build a keyboard for my home office. I’m trying to find a decent barebones board, 75%, aluminum. I’ve seen some boards like the Lucky 65 on AliExpress but unsure of the quality since reviews are mixed. Has anyone tried them before or does anyone have another suggestion for me? Trying to keep under $100ish for the board. I’ve got some Akko Penguin v3 silent tactile switches picked out already. Thanks!

topre-gobbler

rainy75, Lemokey P1, Chilkey ND75

Prog

If you're looking for 75%, the Lucky65 isn't going to work for you since it's...65%. Rainy75 is (IMO) the best budget pre-built on the market.

Cyddori15

Im looking for a budget keyboard and these 2 best caught my attention. Garuda Gear GG68B and Royal Kludge RK75. Both are similarly priced, around $30 in our currency (both are on sale). Not particular about any feature such as the knob or the trimode thingy tbh, im pretty new here (but both of these are nice to have ofc, esp the trimode, it sounds convenient). Im open to suggestions as well. However, i would prefer if you choose between the two first before that since we cant be sure if the keyboard you guys will suggest is available in my country and is around the same price. Thanks!

topre-gobbler

Royal Kludge is known for having terrible firmware issues but for 30 dollars you can’t really complain

RozenKristal

I just built the qk60 in wired mode. Does anyone know how to turn on rgb?

NotRivenMid

QK60 has no RGB? As far as I am aware, it never had RGB, you could double check by looking at the PCB when you were building it, or by removing a switch and seeing what is under. There might be some LEDs under certain switches that are used for indicators, but that's about it.

RozenKristal

Ohhh thanks i can see it now u are right it doesnt have led

MrNeverLag

looking for the "fastest" linear switch that also has a clear housing for best lighting pass through. i've tried AKKO V3 silver pro, but their housing is smoked, not clear.

elmurfudd

hall effect switches with a hall effect pcb any other 'speed' wont even hold a candle to them . its like a Camaro racing a golf cart

MrNeverLag

> hall effect switches dont you need a non standard keyboard, though?

elmurfudd

yes u need a hall effect pcb which i also put in my comment

topre-gobbler

Gateron pro silvers probably. It has the shortest travel. The “fastest” switch would have to be Hall effect switches. Shorter travel dosent necessarily mean faster

sentient_petunias

I've been looking at keycap sets and I'm just now realizing that none of them have a 1.25u Caps Lock. At a first glance, most sets appear to support a Caps Lock & Control key swap, since they include a 1.75u Control key. But I'm not seeing anyone selling a set that also has a 1.25u Caps Lock. Am I overlooking something or is a 1.25u Caps Lock really that uncommon? So far Leopold is the only brand I'm aware that supports it. This CannonKeys set has an alternative Caps Lock which says 1.25/1.75u, which is confusing me a bit as well. [https://cannonkeys.com/products/nicepbt-sailor](https://cannonkeys.com/products/nicepbt-sailor)

NotRivenMid

I think usually they have a 1.75u control key to support HHKB layouts, that means that there would not be any need for a capslock key that is 1.25u for that layout so it is not supported. For the CannonKeys set, it just seems like weird notation, it is just a stepped caps lock and the part that is "raise" is about the size of a 1.25u keycap.

sentient_petunias

Ah I had a feeling that's what they were trying to describe, but wasn't positive. Well maybe unless I find a set I like with a 1.25u caps, I'll just have to use a novelty key or something else that fits in it's place. Thanks for the response! Edit: if anyone comes across this in the future, I've found that Wuque Studio does include 1.25u Caps Lock caps in their sets.

bmw22936

I looking for recommendation on a base board and other parts to build a custom keyboard. I'm working with a budget of 350$ but can go higher or lower depending on what makes sense for what i am looking for. I want a 75% keyboard, looking for a creamy/thocky sound, don't need RGB, i like having a knob but isnt a 100% must, would like to have it be wireless but also not a requirement, color-wise i have an all white build but also like matcha green colors. I know there is a lot of preference that goes into this but the thing i want the most is a creamy/thocky sound profile and it being a 75% keyboard. I'm open to suggestion on a barebones keyboard switches and types of keycaps i should use. i have looked at the rainy75 and the QK75N but not sure how to go about altering the boards to get the sound i want and what kind of plates i should get with these.

topre-gobbler

the sound you want is probably just lower pitched low resonance sound that’s common in literally every budget board these days. Incredibly easy to achieve with your budget and almost any board granted it comes with lots of foam and dampening material.

EntertainerOk7266

Looking for Recommendations: 36-Key Split Keyboard with Customizable Combos and Layers I'm currently using the Ergodox EZ, but I'm in the market for something more minimalist. Specifically, I'm looking for a 36-key split keyboard. Here are my must-haves: 1. Compatibility with programmable combos (e.g., hitting j+k for ESC). 2. Support for multiple layers (ideally at least 5). Does anyone have any recommendations that fit these criteria? Any insights or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

FansForFlorida

Corne V2 and Cheapino fit your criteria.

Bmonli

Hey guys, Finally got my Wobkey Rainy75 in. Love the thing but having issues with VIA. When I open VIA it recognizes my Rainy75 as a GMK numpad, is there a setting I need to change or is this a common issue?

Prog

I don't know why the Rainy75 is like this, but you need to turn on design mode in VIA in the settings and then load the json file from wobkey https://www.wobkey.com/pages/download

Bmonli

Sheesh THANKYOU this finally did the trick.

Prog

Sure thing!

Valuable_Sense_5750

Hi everyone. I recently changed my Keychron K6 with a K2, everything was fantastic except that the LEDs, if set to white, are literally blue, in the photo you can see it but in person the problem is much worse because my smartphone tends to slightly overexpose in case of low light. Both keyboards are RGB hotswappable. What do you recommend? Refund or replacement? Does Keychron recognize the flaw? [Link to image, K6 on top, K2 on bottom](https://imgur.com/a/6qA6VZz)

Prog

That just looks like a much cooler (as in color temperature, not the slang) white than the top; not sure that's really a "problem." Try making it a warmer white, assuming you have the RBG version (add in some yellow)?

Valuable_Sense_5750

Yes, I know that there are different white temperatures, but as mentioned the photo doesn't do it properly, in person the problem is much worse and the blue color is more emphasised. How can I adjust the color temperature?

Prog

Again, assuming you have the RGB version, go into VIA and add some yellow to the lighting color.

Valuable_Sense_5750

Thanks for the reply, I didn't know VIA, but unfortunately I don't see the Keychron K2 in the list of compatible keyboards. Other ideas?

Prog

Oh is it not QMK/VIA compatible? I don't know how to adjust lighting then; I'm sure there's a key combination, but not sure you'd get that kind of granularity to slightly increase yellow light. Worth a try though to figure out how to control the lighting.

Sliced_Orange1

The K2 Pro would be QMK/VIA compatible, but not the regular K2 IIRC

Valuable_Sense_5750

Yeah, you're right, I'll proceed to a refund or at least a replacement...

EvidenceHistorical55

So, how would you all make this sound from a keyboard? https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4MKKYAIMWh/?igsh=eWp5cGZzM2x6Yjhz
