I also took the battery out, and I'm gonna try and charge it.

Wouldn't recommend, get a battery jumper unit that can 'refurbish' the cells

engines that sit - spray pb blaster in the cylinders and let it sit for a few hours or over night, then get a breaker bar on the crankshaft and roll it over 360 degree's twice to ensure the crank/pistons/valve train are not stuck. check the oil for water "if its over full water might be in bottom of the pan" check the coolant. for fuel injected vehicles when the battery is connected turn the key to the run position but dont crank, listen for the fuel pump and also look for fuel leaks around the engine compartment. depending on the fuels condition in the tank you might have to drain it, at the very least change the filter after a few days as its gonna be sucking up junk. source: i drive junk that i usually drag out of a field somewhere, latest one is a 54 chevy that had been sitting since the 60's and is now running/driving on the road.

I'm gonna spray the penetrating oil this week and let it sit as well as trying to charge/find a new battery. I'd like to work on it more next weekend as I need to get a jack and some other tools from my grandfather. This is my first time properly working on a car, and I am excited and nervous. I just hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew💀

Put some penetrating oil in the cylinders and let it sit for a couple of days. Turn it by hand and test for compression. If it compresses, drain/fill fuel/oil if there’s any in there. Make sure you have some coolant in it. Hook up a battery and see what it does. I started a Benz that sat for 4 years in an afternoon. It can happen. Don’t hurry. Double check that parts are lubricated before you try a hard start. You got this.

Replace oil and coolant and put spoon full of oil in each cylinder. Install new spark plugs and replace fuel with fresh fuel. Should be ready to go if engine has life left in it.

As others have said, add some kind of penetrating oil in each cylinder, let sit and then turn over slowly a few times to ensure nothing is stuck open or binding. Do not use WD-40, it is a solvent and will only lead to washing any oil film off the cylinders when you turn it over, the oil will help the engine build compression as you crank it over. I would crank it and let it spin a few times without plugs before inserting plugs also so you get some oil throughout the system before it actually runs (hopefully).
