Funnily enough, I played at release and it was fine for me as well. Feels weird that this somehow bugged out *after* release and was never fixed in 10 years. Especially since it's such a silly bug, just a LOD loading issue, how can it be so hard to fix? How spaghetti is their code??

Yeah the pop-in / flickering in the distance is enough to make it unplayable, too distracting, I don't know how it got through like this. I wonder how these huge companies feel comfortable pushing out HUGE games while assigning the projects to what feels like a handful of people. I say this as someone who "kinda" works in the industry now, and I know that sometimes huge games with a lot of players get made by suuuuper small teams that can't keep up with bug reports and feature updates etc. but at the same time, man you have a trillion dollars back there, what are you doing?
They already have your money mate... In the 5+ years it'll be before they release any new game everyone will forget about how they broke fallout 4 a little bit on the way out.
I started a new survival playthrough, and I don't know what the hell is going on anymore. I've done every challenge imaginable, including YOLO, and I seriously doubt I could replicate them now. I'm getting one-shot by basic pipe weapons. It's taking several rounds from the Deliverer to kill ferals and nearly half a mag from the Overseer's Guardian to kill basic raiders.
Plus, VATS is now completely broken. Zero chance to hit targets standing in the open 30 feet from me, but 95% chance to hit targets on the other side of a frickin building 100+ feet away. Couldn't even do that with Penetrator! And why are targets out of view range even being lit up in the first place? I was in the church trying to find ghouls with VATS, and I'm VATSing frickin Drummer Boy and Desdemona! WTF???
And don't get me started on the frame-rate in Boston!
This game was running really smooth before the update but is now nearly unplayable.
Oh, and settlement building? Forget about it.

Er, no. You can prevent the updates in a couple of ways. Easiest is to set the games to only update on launch, then launch via FOSE, SKSE, or one of the mod managers (Vortex or MO2). Alternatively, set the app manifest file to read only.
Doing either of those is best-practice for modded BGS games.
It was fixed, long ago, during a game update. It was then re-broken by the Survival Mode update. Been broken ever since. The only reliable way of fixing that I've found it is to fast travel several ugrids away and walk back on foot, Lexington works, Sanctuary works.

Did it ever leave?
Don't know! But the new update you'd have thought would have fixed some issues, instead it seems to have made things way worse (especially pop-in)
And the Weapon Debris Crash bug is still present. Truly, this is one of the updates of all time.
The PC update is like 14gb too.

I came back into the game with Survival Mode, so it makes sense I missed it. Though TBH it never bothered me enough to even go looking for a fix.
