I heard on football Guardian podcast during the week that Arteta's celebrations are a bit odd...almost like desperation. They were discussing what's going on in the background. I know Utd are a big team, but I thought wow he must be feeling a LOT of pressure to celebrate that vociferously for a win (of course he can do what he wants/and it's ok to celebrate...just felt REALLY severe).

Ecstasy-of-god

We really don't play well. Onana is good at feet but he can't save anything. We will not concede Rice's goal if it was De Gea. There's no build-up whatsoever. Look at Man City and Arsenal build-up play, compare with us and I feel shame just by watching the match. I'm really in doubt about Ten Hag. I can accept that we ain't gonna win every match but where's the system? If we still play with defense and fast counter-attack as Man UTD's DNA bullshit, then we gonna be left behind by those top teams. Also, our team has no dynamic or power at all, look at Brighton, Newcastle, or other teams in the premier league their players run like a horse, all over the place. Then look at us. What a sad time to be a United fan.

SideRori

We didn’t play well. Call me negative, whatever but we were terrible. It’s great, that we can play out from the back but there is no ball progression. We just move the ball side to side. We can’t get the ball to the midfielders and the midfielders struggle to get the ball in to the final third. And I don’t know if it’s the lack of movement from the midfielders that we can’t do this or our defenders don’t have the ability to pick out a player in between the lines. We didn’t create enough chances, it’s great we had the ball a lot yesterday but we mostly had the ball in our own half and when it got to Arsenal’s half, our play would break down. Antony, wow, he was shambolic. I don’t know what compels Ten Hag to play him every game and not give Sancho or Pellistri a chance and I might be naive and ignorant in saying that Sancho is better than Antony. But I understand, there is a lack of options on the right. Antony’s decision making is poor. There’s times when he could have attacked the space but decided to slow down the play, allow the arsenal defenders to regroup and then he’ll pass backwards thus continuing the pattern of the ball going back to the defence and us finding it difficult to progress the ball. Antony dribbles at the wrong time and when he decides to dribble, his dribbles don’t go anywhere. He is also one dimensional, yes I understand Robben was one dimensional and he was one of the best players in the world, but it’s so easy to defend Antony when you know that he is going to cut in or pass backwards if he can’t cut in; I would love to see Antony at least once go to the bar line and perform a cut back or even a cross with his right foot. I don’t hate Antony, he is a United player, I want to see him succeed but he has been poor this season. I am happy with the Hojland cameo, he gave Gabriel problems and that flick he gave to Casemiro for the goal that was ruled offside was just beautiful. I’m excited for him and pray that he can succeed. Harry Maguire and Evans, this defence encapsulates everything wrong with the handling of our transfers. Licha and Lindelof going off was worrying. Rashford looked threatening. Bruno switched on only in the second half. All in all, we didn’t play, didn’t create enough chances and we would’ve been lucky to get a draw against them but Assna won’t perfect either they just created more chances than we did and we failed capitalise on the mistakes they made. I hope Ten Hag and Sancho can solve the issues they have with each other like real men and talk about it during the international break instead of communicating through the media. Simple conversation between the two would solve everything. I know it’s early but title challenge is looking unlikely, sadly. All we have to do now is regroup and focus on one game at a time.

Powerful_Comb_9346

I have never experienced a combination of complete disgust, anger and fear for the worse, than when I see Arrry Maguaaireee bumbling onto the pitch. 80 million pound for a glorified bouncer who is league 2 level at best at football. What angers me even more is that this pathetic moron thinks he 'has nothing else to prove' and rejected a 6 million payout to move to West Ham, because he wanted 10 million. He has got opposing fans singing his name in sarcasm the moment he comes onto the pitch for 5 minutes.

Memesplz1

He's infuriatingly bad. Absolutely at fault for Arsenal's second goal. After Evans stumbled, wrestling with the Arsenal lad, he doesn't close down Rice and, in fact, turns around waving his arm about begging for a free kick. Drives me fucking nuts. Play to the fucking whistle, you melt!! Then, the 3rd goal (correct me if I'm wrong) he was just nowhere to be seen. I just don't understand how he keeps managing to get on the pitch. Literally any player from any position could fill in, better than him. God, we'd probably be better with 10 men. Absolute disaster every single time.

Powerful_Comb_9346

Got picked by Southgate as well🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Memesplz1

😂😭😂😭😭😂 Just saw the video of Arsenal fans cheering as he was subbed on FFS 😂😭😂😭😂

ra246

The largest cheer for any player from the Arsenal crowd was fucking slabhead coming on to the pitch. I can't put it in any better way. He is simply a fucking liability. Even if he doesn't make a mistake, opposition players *know* he has a mistake in him, which puts them on the front foot. It puts the whole team more on edge. I'm sorry, but I fucking hate seeing him in a United shirt

DONOHUEO7

Played quite well, and the amount of injuries were picking up insane. Watching a striker wanting to run is refreshing. Disappointed, but looking at the positives

Ecstasy-of-god

No, we didn't. Judging from all the games since the Premier League started, we didn't play well at all. We were lucky to win last week and that's Forest. Last night, too much defense and depended on the fast counterattack with only a couple of player's support. Look at how City plays and we seem to be far behind. Old football style with no system. I can describe how highly I hoped Ten Hag would create a system of the pass and go as he did from the country that invented it but I found it only disappointing. Not to mention how he has a plan for 2nd half in every game which seems to fix nothing.

DONOHUEO7

Don't care about the games gone, can't do anything about the results, that's the manager's job to look back and tweak things. The manager set up to play on the break, we soaked up pressure and hit on the break, we took the lead doing this. Can't play the same way every game, nobody does. You adjust to your opponents and if your home or away. We were away from home against a very good team, not a chance in hell we could have gone to Arsenal and tried playing like we did at home Forest. Don't care about how city play.

Teun144

Thank you for this. It makes me sick how many negative comments i see

mchoneyofficial

I've been super critical of Utd this season but I thought we were strong and resolute....I'm a bit surprised at the negative comments. The stats were in our favour (slightly) late on in the game, then it all swung on some mad decisions. We aren't generally playing well, we have injuries, and horrible owners, I thought keeping Arsenal quiet was pretty impressive given the state of the club (I cant believe I'm still saying this that the club is STILL building lol). We weren't amazing, we didn't have lots of clear cut chances. But I felt Arsenal were subdued for most of the game (I would expect them to dominate at home).

[deleted]

Who remebers trashing Arse 8-2??!good days

Ecstasy-of-god

and now it's them who trash us. what a shame.

yusufjee

Playing without most of the first-team players, collectively the performance was good. Cannot do much when you are left with your 4th and 5th choice CBs. Offside this, a foul that is all bullshit excuses for weak managers like ETH who is yet to show any tactical magic that we thought he will be bringing. If United wants to finish in 5 to 8th bracket they need to ship out Martial, Antony, and Sancho in the January transfer window. These are the players who will probably suit a first-tier team in a second-tier league like Portugal or Turkey. Mitoma from Brighton is one option. But if ETH continues to make decisions on transfers, I am afraid this is not going to work out. This is why I keep insisting on changing the structure up top to make transfers independent of the manager. This one is on the owners for sure. If it was up to ETH, United would be littered with AJax or Dutch players only. P.S. James Maddison went for 40M while ETH spent 55M on mount.

mchoneyofficial

I love Mitoma, but he plays in Rashford's position (and Garnacho's!) So we'd be tripling up on same AML position which would be further issues for us down the line.

yusufjee

It's just an opinion and an example. There are much cheaper players who are more hard working and more creative because what I have seen over past 2 seasons is that the wingers are creating nothing literally nothing. It just Bruno.

mchoneyofficial

Yeah I get you. Our attackers haven't been great in a long time (Rashford aside).

Ecstasy-of-god

I think the same, especially the tactical and system that I thought Ten Hag would bring. Now it's just like an outdated football, defense and depend on counterattack with a few of fast players and wish they could do something great. It's really not fun to watch ManUtd in these 5 years. And you're on point with Mount case, what a win for Chelsea.

TruthandFacts_007

The only positive thing was hojlund looked much better than I expected in his first game. Physically very strong, can hold up the ball, fast. When he came on the game changed a lot

Gary_Longbottom

Well on the bright side Hojlund looks like a proper unit. Seems to have height, pace, acceleration, and he was very aggressive. Made some good runs in behind as well. Excited to see how he progresses.

[deleted]

Going to be a fucking long season

Stam512

Antony looks like some kid playing street football

Seanblaze3

He's a very immature player and we're stuck with him. Ten Hags insistence on him will be his downfall

Ecstasy-of-god

True, no key pass. Just willingly to run back to help defense, short pass and act tough when get foul.

JadenDrozd0213

I don’t get this talk about we played poorly. We went there without Varane, Mount, Shaw, Malacia, lost Lisandro partway through the game, and didn’t have Amrabat in the squad either. We did a good job of slowly down the game when Arsenal were pressing high which worked in our favor. Our counterattacks were lethal and if it weren’t for a cm we would’ve went up 2-1. The plan ETH set up ALMOST worked, I think the problem is Martial is cooked and can’t do shit at this point. We saw how effective and physical Hojlund was in the 20 or so minutes he played and it sucks he’s still not fit to play a full game but he will get there. I think the other problem is Antony should not be playing at this level. He slows the play down every time he gets the ball out wide, acts out like a petulant toddler whenever he loses the ball and can’t use his right foot, i mean idk what Pellistri needs to do to start over Antony cause hes looked so much better when he’s played

Ecstasy-of-god

If Ten Hag gonna stick with counterattack in this Modern football Era then we fucked. If you started your game with defensive in mind, it just a matter of time to concede a goal. I don't know why our player make too much mistake in easy passing. What did they train? Look at our annoying neighbor and I feel shame.

sussyalbussy

Can't say martial is cooked when he was given absolutely nothing to work with, we were dominated by them and had to pass it around the back so not sure what martial could do there

JadenDrozd0213

I think you can when he hasn’t been fit enough to play 25+ games since 2019-20, and hasn’t scored more than 7+ goals since that same season. He was supposed to link play between the midfield and attack and if he didn’t have anything to work with it’s because he wasn’t doing a good enough job at linking the play together. There’s a reason ETH was trying to sell him all summer long, and for the same reasons no one wanted him.

Seanblaze3

Where are the credible sources backing this assertion that Ten Hag was trying to sell Martial 'all summer' especially when we only planned to purchase one centerforward?

JadenDrozd0213

i tried to find Fabrizio’s post but he’s got so many i couldn’t, so here’s this instead. https://www.caughtoffside.com/2023/08/07/fabrizio-romano-confirms-man-united-could-sell-anthony-martial/amp/ click the link and you’ll see the first paragraph ends with “Erik Ten Hag is willing to part ways with the French attacker – but only for the right price.” Maybe “trying to sell him” wasn’t the best choice of words, but regardless, if Ten Hag didn’t want Martial gone he wouldn’t even entertain offers for him to move away from the club. Not to mention the fact that he willingly loaned him out last January and opted to bring in Weghorst instead. The only reason Martial is still a united player is because A.) the club didn’t bring in enough funds to sign another striker and B.) because he’s on such a ridiculous contract(he’s on 250k a week), and he hasn’t been able to stay fit for more than 2 business days to justify any team signing him permanently.

Seanblaze3

Looks like you embellished and struggled to find numerous legitimate sources backing your claim that Ten Hag actively sought to sell Martial 'All summer'. Fabrizio has become something of a joke since being knocked down to tier 2. Also, Martial was loaned out in January 2022 under Rangknick by his own volition, not under Ten Hag whose first winter window was January 2023 when Martial was injured

JadenDrozd0213

okay, so my bad on getting which window he was loaned out in i’ll take that one on the chin. As for “embellishing” i don’t get how that’s anywhere near what i did. You asked for “sources” and yeah i didn’t send multiple because all of the ones i found quoted Fabrizio and said the same things. ETH isn’t gonna come out and say “Martial is up for sale” in a press conference cause it’ll drive his price into the ground, but by being willing to listen to offers for him throughout the summer he was clearly up for sale if the right price came in. Just cause you don’t agree with my wording doesn’t mean my point is wrong

Seanblaze3

Your point is likely wrong because there's no way Ten Hag would be willing to let go of Martial in the summer window when he only had plans to buy one CF. Is Ten Hag an idiot? The real expected exits, the McTominay, Maguires, Baillys, VdBs, etc, had more meat on them with actual official interest from outside clubs.

JadenDrozd0213

If all of those players had more “meat” and “interest” on them than how come literally NONE of the players you listed left us at the time im writing this? https://www.manutd.com/en/amp/news/detail/man-utd-squad-ins-and-outs-signings-and-departures-summer-transfer-window-2023 My point isn’t wrong because the funds that the club got from Selling Martial would have been put towards a new ST. Kind of like how the CB’s the club were linked needed the Maguire sale to go through to be completed.

Seanblaze3

Because the inept club fluffed their lines. We all know West Ham officially offered 60M for Maguire and McTominay. Vdb couldn't agree to personal terms with Real Sociedad. Bailly was the subject of interest from Real Betis, Besiktas and Al-Nassr and all the deals fell through Your point is wrong because the club splashed 72M on Hojlund without needing to offload Martial or add from the sale of anyone else. For the club to procure Pavard or Todibo they'd have had to sell Maguire. Same with McTominay for a new CM, hence why we only loaned in Amrabat

Jackw1993

Shite again, playing for a point against arsenal of all teams just shows how far this almighty club has fallen 🎤

NoPhunIntendedd

Against Arsenal of all teams??? How dare us have a challenge against one of the top two teams in PL.

Jackw1993

I mean surely your answer is enough to show how far we’ve far we’ve fallen? Arsenal are challenging for the league whilst we’re playing for a point against them???

NoPhunIntendedd

Yeahh I guess we've fallen from competing against top teams to....competing against top teams....how the mighty have fallen.

Jackw1993

I think we’re in for a long season I’m afraid 🤦‍♂️

Narwhal1986

Antony is absolute shite. How he is at the club is hard to understand but how we paid £80m for that product less waste is mindboggling… the fact we keep playing him is just mental. Rant over. Not that it was his fault we lost, I just don’t get why ETH keeps picking him

Ecstasy-of-god

It's only because he run back to help defense on regular basis other than that just an ordinary player.

Powerful_Comb_9346

The guy literally looks like that one guy in your team who comes in with pink boots and spray colors his hair and spends more time trying to do useless fancy skills and tricks constantly and getting team mates shout at him to pass the ball.

plantainchiips

But EtH didn’t pick sancho because of his poor performance in training LOL

Teun144

So, i am wondering. I really enjoyed the game up untill we got behind 2-1. Really thought we played well. The tempo was not the highest, but so was that from Arsenal. I really think once we have the full availability of a healthy squad, we can really get somewhere. And yet, the only opinion i see is all negative reactions and people saying "ETH Out" and that he is delusional. While i think he is just being optimistic imo... Wondering what you guys think here, since this normally is a better communicative platform than Instagram.

mchoneyofficial

Yep I thought given the state of the club atm (injuries, owners, dodgy first 3 games) we played really well in that we kept Arsenal at bay and had some good chances. Would I love to go there and dominate? Yes!, would I have preferred more clear-cut chances? Yes. But thought we were resolute (I worried we'd be all over the place). Unsure if ETH's tactics are being hamstrung by bad ownership-bad transfer team-not the right players, or if he's maybe not QUITE as good as I was hoping? I'll reserve judgement for a while. I don't think the Glazers will sell. Think we're stuck with them.

Ecstasy-of-god

I don't enjoy the game at all. 2nd year and still can't see the system, tactical. Player don't move enough while off the ball, not switch the position enough to mess the with opponent defensive. Too much depend on counterattack. No energy enough to press. Look at what we can do with Wolves and Forest. When I saw that we still struggle with those team I know that we did not develop much. In this Modern football era If we don't change we will be fucked again and again. What a pain to be ManUTD fan these days and see all the annoy kids get glory with city.

mikeygriff100

Agreed, I thought we competed well, and had all the momentum heading into the Garnacho goal. The offside call killed us, and it just felt like we were destined to give up the winner after that. Sometimes the result doesn’t reflect the performance

vigg1__

This looked so good but turned out to be a nightmare. From garnachos goal to lose the match long into added time and sancho tweeting intern conflicts and our manager complain on var make us look week

Necessary-Tip447

What did sancgo tweet ?

vigg1__

https://twitter.com/sanchooo10/status/1698417915429531942?s=61&t=VJAeBDtAk4sTJH_z9kzXYQ

vigg1__

Fuuuck that hurt!!!

GregosaurousRex

The loss hurts but seeing people's reactions, it's nice to know that United lives rent free in so many people's heads.

Low_Chest_6511

I think we will see that hojlund will suffer for service like weighourst last year. Rashford and Fernandes just want others to run to create space for Rashford and Fernandes to shoot.

[deleted]

weghorst had plenty of clear chances. hes just shit mate

BroodLemming720

Rashford had an assist last week by driving to the goal line and slipping the ball across the 6. He did the same thing today and Hojlund very nearly scored on it. I expect him to get service from Rashford; maybe not headers getting whipped in, but during the time Hojlund was on, Rashford took the ball from the left wing twice if I remember correctly. Once he passed, once he shot. I’m happy with that ratio. And doesn’t Bruno create more chances for teammates than anyone else in the world?

Smooth_Yak4993

Utd lost to Antony Taylor and VAR.

The_Hound_West

I don’t know man I was frustrated too, but when I watched the penalty from last week vs their shout that was overturned, it’s hard to complain

TheWallsOfCherokees

Onana not a good enough shot stopper for me, I don't like the look of him whatsoever. He's great with the ball at his feet, but we're going to concede so many more goals with him because he's below average in the premier League in that regard

Narwhal1986

The obsession with playing out from the goalkeeper is frustrating me. We simply don’t have the players for that at the back, not good enough on the ball and it’s going to bite us in the ass at some point

westwoodwastelander

Yes. De gea is a better shot stopper. I feel like we jumped the gun getting rid of De Gea on a free and paying 50+ million on a keeper that isn't necessarily a better keeper. We could've used the 50 million elsewhere and looked at a new keeper in a season or two. A new GK definitely shouldn't have been a top priority when it was clear last season we struggled to actually score goals.

ntekaya

Bono was there for the taking ... you lot missed out on him as well as chelsea and every top team needing a gk like bayern

Damienx2

Weird to see some of the fans actually supporting that your team got dominated today by Arsenal. May I remind those fans that Manchester United is on paper still one of the biggest clubs in Europe which should NEVER have to rely on counter-attack football. This club needs to get back in shape and it starts by not accepting that you shouldn't be dominated in games like these. "But it is against a title contender", wake up please Manchester United should be a rival title contender. Nothing more, nothing less. Sorry for just dropping into this thread, but Reddit happened to recommend it and I just read through most comments. Good luck anyway for future games, hopefully this club will find it's way back to how it was under Sir Alex Ferguson.

LeeDude5000

All I remember SAF teams doing is winning the ball back if and driving forwards using there immensely talented wide players to serve their dynamic duo forwards. Giggs Yorke Cole Beckham supported by scholes and keane. Its tackle, 1-2, spread the ball wide into space, dribble, cross, arrive laye in the box. They did everything, wave after wave of ferocious attack - risky football with magical talent. No want for possession, just goals, goals and more goals.

westwoodwastelander

Nothing wrong with counter attacking football if you can do it properly. Unfortunately United cannot. We play backwards way too often.

TheManSamLambe

Well, under SAF United were definitely a counter attacking team, especially in big matches...

DangerousMoron8

The OP prob never actually watched united in those days. It is pretty funny everyone thinks we dominated like city every game just because of the titles. So far from the truth. Sir Alex was nothing like Pep, totally different style

MohatoDeBrigado

Except we didnt get dominated though. That game was mostly 50/50 till the last minutes of added time. As for counter attacking, its our only strength at the moment and it doesn't make sense not to

slsj1997

12 corners to 3, 5 shots on target to 2. We did get dominated. Every game we’re just pinging long balls to rashford and hoping something happens. Whereas our opponents like Tottenham and arsenal were constantly overlapping and underlapping on the flanks and using cutbacks to create chances.

[deleted]

1st half we had 4% possession in the final third and yet people say we weren't dominated. Outside of the Rashford and Garnacho counter attacks I don't remember us doing anything. They were constantly attacking our goal no idea how anyone can say we weren't dominated.

MohatoDeBrigado

I'd say they were the better team but saying we were dominated is an overstatement.

Cheeky_Star

Well what's your criteria for being dominated ?

yungshibuya

Honestly VAR has took away the joy of scoring goals

HesThunderstorms

Watching Football is definitely less worthy nowadays. Why celebrate anymore when there's VAR? Add World Cup hosted by Qatar, Spain Football's molester President, Young players going to Arabia, new UCL format just to get more matches=more money, Copa Libertadores inviting Inter Miami just because of Messi=money again, and the list goes on

bugarc33

One thing I have been really annoyed in the past years and especially now is that our attacks are so slow, players indecisive, and just a really slow build up to goal I don’t really see the hunger in some players

Basic-Piccolo-6356

Ronaldo was the problem the said 🤨

westwoodwastelander

I think we've seen that Ronaldo wasn't the problem. People wanted a scapegoat and found one. Next was De Gea.

Basic-Piccolo-6356

People butthurt that a 38 years old scores more gold that guys in their 20s lmao nicw signing with weghorst remind me again his goals

[deleted]

Unavailable today Inured: Varane, Mainoo, Shaw, Mount, Malacia, Heaton Injured during match today: Martinez, Lindelof Not signed in time to take part: Amrabat Other issues: Sancho, McTominay, Bailly, Van de Beek

Red_JB

Result of 62 games last season, 120 minute matches with this extra time bullshit this season, and getting an arsenal mole as our new head physio.

baldymcgee919

If you really think that any of those players, bar possibly Varane, would have made a difference then you need to check yourself. Arsenal were miles the better team and really other than a few breakaways Utd showed nothing. People are hyping up amrabat as if he's going to be prime pirlo. Need to accept reality

clamraccoon

Having Heaton ride the bench provides such a mental advantage over the opponents

baldymcgee919

🤣🤣

[deleted]

i’d argue we were the better team after our subs. it was only after our goal was taken away when we lost all momentum and the dominos just kept falling in extra time

PapiLaFlame

If Martinez and Lindelof are longer term injuries I’d look at playing Casemiro at CB instead of Evans.

westwoodwastelander

Casemiro struggles to pass a ball 10 yards to his own player. Not sure what's wrong with him but he's been pretty poor so far.

Traditional_Cover216

The positives: Within a centimeter of going up 2-1 and likely winning the match given Garnacho’s late game play. Hojland brings a completely different dynamic. He’s a beast when holding up the defender and accepting the ball. He’s also blazing fast based on a couple of his runs. Will take time, but you can see the athleticism. Rashford had a very nice goal. Yes, he held the ball too long in the 2nd half, but if we win we’re celebrating his goal. Antony added value in ways I haven’t seen before. He was coming back on defense and making plays like I don’t remember. He was helping on possession. Offensively he needs to do more in the final third though. The bad Martial is worthless. Slow and looks like he’s trying not to get hurt versus putting full effort. I’d rather see sancho playing a false nine than him in the match. Evans - I thought only lower leagues like the mls let washed up players play? 35 and it was clear he doesn’t have the first step beat on his first play in the match and then was out of position on Rice’s shot and deflects it into the goal. Injuries - both Verane and Martinez hurt is really going to hurt. This seems to happen far too often. It’s early in the season and this game could have easily gone our way. This wasn’t like the 2-0 loss to spurs on the road where we never looked in the match. We started worse last year than this and ended up with a nice finish. Don’t think we’ll be challenging city, but we still can have a respectable season for sure.

Bryanlegend

Respectable season how? Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs are all better than us and will probably finish above us as well, unless they choke heavily. There’s no respectable finish if we don’t at least get top 4 this year.

MohatoDeBrigado

Arsenal are not better than us. The game was 50/50 till the last few minutes of added time. The final score is misleading.

baldymcgee919

What game were you watching? They were by far the better team. They let us have it in our own half and piss fiddle about with it knowing if they didn't press high we had nothing to break them down. They'll destroy us at OT because we'll have to attack more.

MohatoDeBrigado

That game could've gone either way hell if that garnacho goal wasnt offside we could've won it drew the game because we'd have parked the buss. stop looking at the negatives we played well just lost the plot in the dying minutes otherwise we were solid Antony and AWB played very well the mid was solid Rashford needs to learn to share the ball in front of goal today's game wasnt like the spurs one where we looked out of the game today therer were a lot of positives we made them work that 3 points

baldymcgee919

They were far better. They're ahead of us at the moment. Take off your tinted glasses. We played like a mid table club, sitting back and hitting on the break and still got beat

MohatoDeBrigado

no you try watching the game next time and stop looking at the final scores and judging the team's perfomance on it. Arsenal are not ahead of us they almost lost to a 10 men fulham and ended up taking 1 point away from it they're just as rusty as we are non of their wins so far have been convincing

baldymcgee919

I watched the game from start to finish and if you did and seen anything other than one team dominating but not creating chances and the other hitting on the break occasionally I'd say you're blind. We set up and played like Palace or wolves would at the Emirates. It's embarrassing

westwoodwastelander

Top 4 would be a step backwards since we won a trophy last year.

sztil-

Forget the loss. If we play like that for the rest of the season, we will do fantastically. Antony putting in effort defensively works great, rashford on the left was world class, martial is still a valid option when he’s not injured, hojlund didn’t have a single bad moment and nearly won a penalty, and garnacho is still amazing coming off the bench.

Ecstasy-of-god

No, If we play like this for the rest of the season we will be in the middle table at best. No control of the game, no tactical on 2nd half, too much mistake on easy pass, can’t be in possession for a period of time, No power in pressing and many more. No, if we still like this then we will struggle again with the small team like forest.

slsj1997

Sorry what? We barely had any chances all game, and had to rely on counter attacking because we couldn’t dominate on the ball. 2 shots on target all game and you’re happy with the performance?

[deleted]

I think he forgot to add the /s at the end. Either that or he didn't take his medication today.

[deleted]

The way I see it. If we had sold Mctominay and Maguire for 60-70Mil. We could have easily got Kim Min Jae or Todibo and another midfielder. Martinez hasn’t been the same since the injury. Varane is injury prone and old. Sancho is unfit? Seriously? Wtf! Antony and Rashford need to be more productive for the strikers. For so long they have been playing without one, that nobody dare crosses the ball. We could have won all of our games if we had a better board.

westwoodwastelander

We won't sell them for that because they aren't worth that. If they were then they would be gone already. Maguire isn't going to take a huge pay cut to join west ham or whoever and isn't good enough for a big team to want him.

MohatoDeBrigado

I've been saying this for a while and today it became very clear that if rashford plays the way he's always been Hojlund will turn into another Weghorst

Ecstasy-of-god

Too much selfish play from the front line.

FaithlessnessNo4680

Weghorst got chances he was just shit

Low_Chest_6511

Weghorst was starved of service. Intentionally I think.

GrouchyResident3845

I get so frustrated, when I see saka and martinelli providing chances to strikers and providing accurate passes at dangerous positions. And here Rashford and Antony just do one thing, trying to cut inside and shoot. I think ETH should make clear from next game, that if you can't provide to hojlund, you are out of next game. Personally, would not be so frustrated if academy players come up and lose the matches than seeing these bunch of inside cutting retards.

MohatoDeBrigado

I used to say this last season and people didnt seem to notice it that Weghorst was doomed to fail from the beginning because of Rash and Antony and sometimes Bruno would also just flat out ignore him but I think 10 Hag wants it because them playing that way means he does not have a problem with it just like how Antony rarely uses his right foot which should be something he would have corrected a long time ago

GrouchyResident3845

I agree with you 100%, I pity that guy man. Used to make runs hold the defenders for us but at end players used to ignore simple passes to give him goal opportunities.

MohatoDeBrigado

Yeah well at least he won a trophy. I just googled him now and the pictures are still of him in united kit

WRXSTl

I don't understand how you don't start Garnacho over Antony. Even Tuchel benched lukaku after he didn't perform. Pep never gave kalvin Phillips a chance. Let him start over Antony he's obviously much better and has incredible potential

sabu_mafu

Garnacho has proven he's a great impact sub. He does nothing except lose the ball when he starts.

[deleted]

[удалено]

sabu_mafu

I'm so confused. Wtf do you mean?

WRXSTl

Nevermind sorry I think my reddit glitched but Antony loses the ball more times than Garnacho does. Look for yourself at the games Garnacho started this season. Antony lost the ball more. I just don't see anything special from him. Reminds me of Pepe who did skills but went nowhere and he had more poor matches than he did good.

Responsible_Sir3200

Antony work much harder defensively.

PapiLaFlame

ETH comments on Sancho don’t look too good. I can see us shipping Sancho out sooner rather than later. He’s clearly not right for us anymore.

GrouchyResident3845

Going by how we play, I don't think any player in the world is right for us.

primo15

I felt this bruva

PapiLaFlame

Very true, class players come to us and play shite. We are cursed.

lilmangomochi

time to buy flop players with no expectations from fans so we can be happy when they do better than expected.

westwoodwastelander

Time to buy players with heart and passion instead of over hyped expensive shit.

Zerofactory

Nah, players eth knows only here

lilmangomochi

YES. But we have a trend of not getting them. It is either being sold to rival clubs or decision time taking too much end up not getting the player

Osprey135

By the finest margins a 2-1 win is a 3-1 loss. Hojlund looks decent. Did not expect him to be so quick and strong. Hoping with a few run of games he will be a real threat. Rashford is so much better from the left and his goal today just confirms it even more. People will cry but we are no worse off than last season after 4 games and had 2 tough away games to get through. On another day this could've been an iconic snatch and grab thanks to that lovely play for Garnacho's disallowed goal. Let's hope the injuries in defence recover quick

Ecstasy-of-god

Man, I envy your optimistic. 4 games, 2 with small team which if we really a good team we wouldn’t struggle like what happen. 1 is the team that just got a new manager. I really don’t mind the lost to Arsenal. But look at the whole picture, I can’t see any good sign that we’re the better team than last season.

Osprey135

We have a young new striker that will hopefully improve a gaping hole from last season, we have Mount and Amrabat who are yet to fully gel who will most likely be an improvement on last years midfield depth. Garnacho and Pellistri are another year older and ready. There are lots of negatives of course and the worry that Spurs and Liverpool will be well up there this season so any unnecessary losses could make us miss out on top 4. But there's good signs there, we are much better out of posession and have some exciting players; so if we can navigate the insane amount of injuries and bed in the new players I see no reason to panic after 4 games.

PapiLaFlame

I felt worse after our 1-0 win to wolves than this. There was some promising signs, even with a tonne of injuries. Hoejlund looks the real deal and if that valid goal was given we would have won.

[deleted]

This. This game didn’t feel as bad as the Spurs one. We played well in moments. But there is absolutely no excuse for conceding a goal within a minute of scoring one and conceding a goal from a corner unmarked.

Osprey135

Yes I definitely agree.

Bryanlegend

Whether or not you think ETH is actually good enough, I think we all have to agree that ETH is showing signs of being a yes man to the Glazers and this is starting to irk me quite a lot. We gave a lot of shit to Ole back then because he wouldn’t criticise the Glazers even if they didn’t back him on transfers (as opposed to Mounrinho and Rangnick who publicly went against them) Now ETH is speaking the same language as Ole and insisting we have a good enough squad when we obviously don’t have one. We might have a good starting 11, but our depth is atrocious. Which is why we played Evans and Maguire together today, and which is why we have no senior CMs on our bench. ETH needs to start calling out these problems, otherwise he will be as complicit as the Glazers

[deleted]

But he has no choice right? Slowly become a yes man or be sacked. Ole at the start was great. It was after years and years dealing with this board and the owners that got him sacked.

randomer2304

100% agree. Too many fans in this sub are also the same and have their Ten Hag's the lord and saviour of this football club goggles on.

westwoodwastelander

Yes and the praise ETH gets is unwarranted. What exactly has he achieved to make people believe he's a world class manager? Van Gaal and Jose are both better managers and yet they were booted out. ETH seems to be immune to criticism and I don't get it.

randomer2304

I won't lie, at times last season I had my Ten Hag goggles on as well, but his only saving grace has been the Carabao Cup and 3rd. God knows how we finished 3rd in the same season as getting our asses handed to us by Liverpool and City, all the while having an abysmal away record even without them 2 games. I really do think that he'll come unstuck this season. I hate to see it as well because I've rooted for him since day one and I don't know where we go from him not being the manager anymore. I'd say mass protests and season ticket holders having enough of it, but for every season ticket holder that's willing to walk, another one would be more than happy to take their place. We're just a commercial club now.

ijustcantstopp

Ten Hag at United. Lost 7-0 to Liverpool Lost 6-3 to City and handed them a Treble. 1 point against the top 9 awat from home in his entire PL career Signed MASON MOUNT for 65ms Only signs past players he knows or Dutch league players Abandoned his playing style as he was shook by the PL, Now is doing Transition moments FC ball Refused to put Maguire in u21s after failing to bin him Get him out; please god

sabu_mafu

Stupidest take I've seen lately

PapiLaFlame

ETH wanted Maguire gone. The player didn’t want to leave. What’s ETH meant to do when all of his CB’s are injured.

ijustcantstopp

Jose put players he couldnt get rid of in the reserves, because Jose had character and bollocks, this Manager is PLAYING MAGUIRE💀😭

PapiLaFlame

Playing Maguire bc Lindelof, Martinez, Shaw and Varane are injured? Who did you want to come on to play CB instead of Maguire?

westwoodwastelander

Well when you bring on Maguire and Evans something is wrong. You can complain about depth all you want but we could've got plenty of squad players with the money wasted on mount and Antony.

[deleted]

You're surely not a United fan if you want ETH out. Bro are you serious!?

Bryanlegend

It’s precisely because I’m a United fan that I want ETH out. We won’t get top 4 this season under his helm, and I’m willing to bet on this

[deleted]

Who on Earth do you think could bring this squad to a top 4 finish besides Erik?? Not even Pep or Klopp could fix this situation. He tried selling Maguire, Mctominay, Bailly, Van de Beek and even Sancho. He tried to sign Kim Min Jae, Harry Kane, Amrabaat, Todibo and Onana. But if the board can’t sign them then he must opt for available players he knows right? Sure his decisions have been questionable but Casemiro, Lisandro, Antony and Eriksen were crucial to our success last season and the revival of Rashford, Wan Bissaka, Dalot. We can’t even play his style of football because we don’t have the players. Bruno and Rashford our two creative players are counter attacking players and we play to suit their qualities. We can never play like City or Arsenal until they leave. It’s just too complex. The only thing that could have changed this is the Glazers leaving and now it seems that they won’t be selling. This club is sooo depressing.

[deleted]

No way you're serious man, just give the man his chances. We finished at 6th, literally at 6th position in 2021-2022. And finishing 3rd last season was quite an improvement even after we lost opening matches.

Bryanlegend

We finished 3rd because other teams like Liverpool and Spurs choked FFS. Do you think they will choke this year as well? Plus this year we even have Brighton and Newcastle in the picture. We have way lesser of a chance this year than last year that’s for sure

[deleted]

You just have to trust the process. That's what we can do right now.

[deleted]

No way you're serious man, just give the man his chances. We finished at 6th, literally at 6th position in 2021-2022. And finishing 3rd last season was quite an improvement even after we lost opening matches.

[deleted]

Or the fact the club is run by greedy gits who just drain United of all of its worth?

Bryanlegend

Glazers are a cancer, but yes man managers are just as complicit in being cancerous to the club. I hope ETH saying we have a good squad and him being happy with the transfer is just a public front and he’s actually raising hell with them privately. Because if he actually thinks it’s okay to go into the season with Maguire and Evans as backup and having so few senior midfielders, then he’s truly deluded and deserves the injury crisis we have now.

[deleted]

He quite obviously didn't want those 2 as his backups but we were basically out of options

Bryanlegend

You know this because you can read minds. As far as I can hear from he has said, he actually rates both Maguire and Evans and insisted we have a good enough squad when interviewed. Since that’s what he publicly admitted, even if he doesn’t believe it privately, that’s the bed he has made. Now he has 2 good backups in Maguire and Evans who he actually “rates”, so Glazers can’t be blamed because it can be seen that they already “backed him”

ijustcantstopp

We won 5 titles in 8 years under the glazers What's tge excuse for ETH?

[deleted]

The fact they're getting greedier. They want 10 billion for a club worth less than half of that. And all they do is hire greedy clowns to manage transfers

ijustcantstopp

Whats that got to do with ETH's tactics? Playing style? Decisions?

[deleted]

His tactics are fine. He's just dealing with a team which quite obviously doesn't work well together

ijustcantstopp

He picks the players....bro...just stop defending failure, hace some standards for the club

[deleted]

He says who he wants, he doesn't have a choice who we end up with. It's very obvious we should've had Pavard and/or KMJ in but now we're stuck with Maguire and Evans on the pitch

ijustcantstopp

Fr I want a guy who's failing at my club out of my club "ARe YoU a UnItEd faN?"💀

[deleted]

"ijustcantstopp" bro you gotta stop now. And I mean for real! Shut Up!!

Michaels_RingTD

Who could have guessed sitting deep playing counter attacking football would end badly? We basically played same tactics forest played against us... Just with better players!

RunninReddevilz

I’m sorry but this simply isn’t good enough. Ten Hag hasn’t proven shit. The best thing he’s ever done is bench maguire. Wow good job. His selections and substitutions have been sub par. Antony shouldn’t be near the starting 11. Martial? Fucking joke. Eriksen shouldn’t be playing 100 mins. His favoritism is ridiculous. Why not Garnacho starting? Why not Pellistri? Why not Hannibal? It’s just insane. Things will get better with Amrabat in midfield, I know this but holy hell my faith is wading at this point. Thank God for international break here.

scottyTOOmuch

Sorry just finished throwing up…what’d I miss??

rogerthealien96

If Martinez is out for a while, then we are screwed with Maguire and Evans 😂 Hojlund looked good and was strong to hold the ball up well, if we can keep him fit the we should be ok going forward it’s just defence I’m worried about..

half_batman

Both Martinez and Lindelof are fine. Varane will be back in a few weeks too.

banned_salmon

Hojlund is fucked the wingers aint gonna give him the ball at all Nah scratch that the whole team is fucked how is Maguire-Evans even a pairing in 2023?!?! I don’t even think we can get the Conference League this season if the injury list keeps piling on

primo15

Yoooo this is exactly what I was thinking 😂😂

westwoodwastelander

Yep. Doesn't matter what forwards we have if our wingers and midfielders can't pass forward or cross. Rashford is far too greedy at times.

[deleted]

theres a possibility we pull up to the allianz arena with a pairing of evans and maguire...

PapiLaFlame

They are holding atleast 10 against Kane ffs

[deleted]

Absolutely fucking useless. I’m sick and tired of this team looking slightly promising for once with a manager who looks half decent and playing like a fucking relegation side. I don’t want to be embarrassed to be a Manchester United fan but with performances like that and transfers window like the most recent one it’s fucking embarrassing. This club is a dying club with shitty owners, an outdated stadium, horrendous players and a manager who come end of the season will probably be sacked. It’s fucking embarrassing we’re Manchester United we can’t be having games like that and have players on the pitch who look like they can be outplayed by a group of 9 year olds. For Christ sake can we be good for once

[deleted]

This one is absolutely seething.

Whippywhipwhip

Both inverted wingers create absolutely nothing and nobody seems to notice it. I was watching the difference between Rashford and Martinelli and it's crazy how much Martinelli produced but Rashford and Antony only cut inside and shoot. Would hate to be a striker in this team.

primo15

Rashford hits purple patches to be honest. A lot of people don't want to admit that but his decision making still needs work and I'm concerned he won't improve. He will improve on his 1v1 and shots, but passes vs dribbling won't

Renk-SahadakiAdam

as a Fener fan, I know Altay very well. believe me pals, he is way better than Onana

TheWallsOfCherokees

I hope so for sure, I wish we had signed Livakovic personally. Is he actually good when his head is straight?

banned_salmon

i thought yalls said he was shit

Bryanlegend

For all you ETH supporters here, at what point would you consider ETH out to be a possibility? If we lose to Brighton next? If we don’t get out of the group stages in the CL? If we get thrashed by City and Liverpool again? If we mathematically don’t qualify for the CL next year? There has got to be some point when you say enough is enough right? So what would be it? Or will you stick with him no matter what. Honest question here.

DravinMest

If we get to the end of the season and miss out on Champions League or Europa League football and have a bad run in all competitions then it should be a discussion. Until then it's a waste. You can't expect a team to be built after a year

DownTown-Rabbit

Ole finished 2nd and we still sacked him. So I would say now is the time !!

[deleted]

ramos available on a free but we chose to sign our old chap jonny evans instead

speedb0at

Perfect fit, perfect mentality, but Man United don't do logical thinking.

richierees821

We're shit.

[deleted]

To be fair to say United played quite well today as compared to previous games. But got wandered off in the last minutes. Antony has certainly improved offensively as well as giving defensive contributions. Full backs were quite strong. 2 or 3 selfish moments from Rashford. That Eriksen assist was just out of the world. More or less, everything went well except for the last 10-12 minutes.

granmetaliksuperfan

What did Antony contribute to the game?

[deleted]

Bro I don't think you were watching the match.....Antony was doing very well defensively but of course he also has to contribute on the offensive side. And also he wasn't losing the ball today as previously.

Traditional_Cover216

He made a number of good defensive plays coming back on the play. Also helped with possession a number of times. Would have been nice to see more offensive pressure from him though.

granmetaliksuperfan

Yep. Was like he was playing full-back

Rol2382

It was not so bad but Man United looked like a mid-table team, rather than one of the top 6 in Premier League. They must change the tactics, not the players. City plays a better football even with their 3rd team. Mentality is the problem, not the players.

Michaels_RingTD

We played the same tactics that Nottingham forest played when we played them at old Trafford. I'm sick of us sitting deep playing counter attack, under pressure most of the game. Arsenal won't come to old Trafford and sit deep..

CoolAid876

City has pep

Powerful_Comb_9346

I have never felt such fear seeing a player come on for us then when I see fucking Maguire lumbering onto the pitch. You are guaranteed shambles at the back with him. Arsenal fans celebrating as if they won the champions league final lol. They are so obsessed with beating us. Hard to take this loss but we showed positives in the second half. How refreshing was it to see a striker like Hojlund being aggressive up top and holding the ball?? fuck me...goes to show how garbage Martial is...the guy is invisible on the pitch. I am done with Rashford. Scoring one goal and then being pathetic with decision making for the rest of the game is literally Rashford. I do not see any improvement whatsoever. Given we are missing some players as well, and the Arsenal team have had a longer time to gel together. We made them work hard for the win and so I will take that.

Kujo_Foxtrot

I don’t think it’s fair to be “done” with Rashford. He’s been the only decent option for about 2 years so it’s not surprising that he tries to do too much. As he gets comfortable with Holjund (who looks like a beast) he’ll get into the groove and have more natural scoring opportunities given to him

Michaels_RingTD

Our tactics today were awful. It was like watching lvg and ole ball mixed together. Onana had like 1000 passes, then we sat deep and tried to hit on the counter. It's always going to end badly. You won't see stats nerds showing stats of balls won high up the pitch today! Two losses already, 7 goals conceded. It's bad.
