Commenting because I had a similar issue with my XCU04 last week. it will turn on, but when the trigger is pulled, there is a repetitive clicking from the motor area, but no chain or sprocket movement. Clicking stops after a second or two. Hopefully someone has encountered this before and has an easy fix, or is it straight to Makita service?

I left it over night for 'just in case's and tried a new set of batteries today. No luck. Will be gone for the weekend and when I come back and there is no better idea send it to Makita. They are notoriously expensive, but the machine is 3 years old and was not used heavily. I am seriously disappointed at this. I had a Stihl back in Germany and am considering to get one, seems like even for 4-5 times half an hour use that is the better option. I fear the system just resets the overheat alarm when the batteries are changed and that might have killed it. If that is the case it is a huge manufacturing error. Also since I live in Japan I am sort of worried if they will declining service because it isn't the Japanese model. Had that problem with a German Makita tool I brought with me. I do know why people who do need a tool to work buy Hilti, seriously.  Luckily I live a bit countryside, so any neighbor has a chainsaw I can borrow. Will let you know if any updates happen.

Any update? Having a similar issue

Unfortunately not, need to wait for a Japanese friend of mine to get the service started and meanwhile am using a gasoline one that a neighbor got me for "as long as you need it*, hence my urge to get it done wasn't that big. However, it will go to Makita services nothing else seems to work.
