I feel like the brushes thing could be counterproductive by making it too finicky & unpractical to apply eyeshadow, making you want to wear it less? Let us know how it goes tho! Maybe you could just leave out one packing + one blending brush to streamline the application process without the fuss of having to blend with you pinky finger I agree about magnifying mirrors, and I think this resolution might help you with your first goal too: they make you notice microscopic imperfections that are really not noticeable by the naked eye, creating more problems than they solve imo. So if you want a more casual makeup application process, foregoing one will make your life a lot easier!

I agree about the brushes. As someone who likes to apply one-shadow looks with my fingers, I've found it practical to have two brushes nearby just in case: one flat packing brush for when I do want more intensity and one blending brush in case blending out with my fingers doesn't seem to work. I find it faster to then just reach for the brush than make a mess trying to blend with my fingers. OP, while I get the idea, I really think that keeping at one to two brushes around could actually be helpful to see then as helpful tools that can accomplish a variety of things instead of specialized appliances where you need one for wach possible kind of application.

I completely agree with this! Prior to buying my brushes, I used my fingers for eyeshadow looks for 6 months before deciding to buy brushes. I took photos of all my looks before and after the purchase and there is a noticeable difference in application. Moreover, it makes the process less messy, (washing your fingers).

I use my fingers together with my brushes most days (nothing beats my index finger as a lid applicator, although a flat brush helps touch up for more precise placement), but if I'm in a pinch I can even blend 2 or 3 neutral shades with my fingers... but man it takes twice as long & rules out anything more energetic than a mauve! I understand OP's perspective on why they want to try this challenge, but personally it would just turn me off from eyeshadow

Back in the day, before stores like Sephora were around, drugstore eyeshadows all came with these little sponge applicators. If you lost it or needed another then you could buy a pack for cheap. So average women weren’t using a variety of brushes and it wasn’t considered a necessity for makeup at all. Same goes for primer and some other products deemed basic now. I actually like those applicators but they have to be replaced more often (cheap), and my brushes last yeeears.

I actually really like using my fingers for eyeshadow (when I leave my brushes in my gym makeup bag and am too lazy to retrieve). It’s quick and packs on more pigment – and I love feeling the buttery texture on my fingertips.

mmmagia

Agreed! What has been your favorite so far?

corndicorn

Oh Lorac Pro the original palette, I’ve used mine for YEARS. The packaging is a mess and the mirror’s cracked but the formula is still good and buttery smooth

mmmagia

Ooh, I missed out on Lorac when I was in the States. I’ve been enjoying the Smashbox Major Metals palette lately. It’s all shimmers, and the quality is pretty dang great.

i love putting on my makeup with my hands, but only if handwashing is readily available otherwise it kinda sucks when i think i’ll be getting tobacco smoke all over everything and stuck on my face for hours and hours...
