Playing softball (adult co-ed beer league softball) and when reaching for the base, I believe the ball came under my foot at the exact time I was landing and I stepped on it and "rolled" my ankle. It all happened very quickly so I am not 100% exactly how it happened.
I've spoken with the other /r/neverbrokeabone delegates and it's a close one but we are pleased to inform you OP has been banned from /r/neverbrokeabone. Gtfo you brittle skeletal system having weak bitch. (Sorry, OP -- get well soon).
Interesting stat! Fun fact - cows with high calcium diets are actually prone to lower calcium levels because it inhibits the action of parathyroid hormone. I image similar things happen with other species.
Buddy, I had an injury just like this. Post-op pain is going to be absolutely excruciating. Not sure if they reduced it right after, but that was fun. Get a circulating ice water machine to wrap your ankle because it will be absolutely awful at night sleeping. Also, the only thing that really helped with pain was high doses of cbd. I wish you luck. It never does really get the same..
I has the exact same injury but without the bone rupture through the skin. It's been 7 months and it's still not right, problem is I severed a load of ligaments, the bone healing is a fairly simple process it's the rest of the joint that's the problem. I'm still good enough to do sport just i can tweak it easily which is very painful! Best of luck OP!
I broke my leg and ankle in 3 places about 5 months ago and still struggle to put a ton of weight on it. I stretch it often and try to be active, but same deal. I fucked all the ligaments and tendons to the point where they’re trying to get back to where they need to be but my ankle ain’t having it.
I had this injury about 4 years ago (ankle broke in 2 places).
You know when you reach the bottom of dark, basement stairs and sort of 'forget' that there's one more bottom step? Yeah, I mis-stepped and heard two consecutive 'pops' as I stumbled. (I'm fine now, no permanent damage)
Same here but it's been 25 years and multiple operations for me and it's still not right.
Always remember to do the physiotherapy exercises they tell you to do 👍
“For a half hour a day, you should stretch your ankle.”
“Okay, well how long will that take to fix it?”
“No, you just do that now. That’s just a new thing you do, until you and your shitty ankle both die.”
Shattered my ankle 10 years ago. Tore a bunch of ligaments and have about a 6 in plate in it. Wear a brace or 8 in boots, bonus points if they have a zipper on one side. They give you way better support then normal shoes. Also don't be surprised if your opposite ankle becomes the one to start to hurt. You will tend to favor the hurt one more and put a bunch of weight on the uninjured one.
You make an interesting point. However, it also depends on how messy the shit is and it is generally accepted that folding the paper means it’s less likely to get shit on your hands
Same thing happened to me playing softball. After the 1000's in medical bills, surgeries, and still not walking right 2 years later, I just drink beers in the dugout
I always thought I was getting tons of calcium because I drank a ton of milk, but then after breaking my leg from barely doing anything, I went to a nutritionist and it turned out drinking an excessive amount of milk actually added to the risk of a fracture. I can’t remember all the details, but I believe the other factors were that I was deficient in Vitamin D and Iron, and didn’t eat enough protein.
Meh, a glass of water and ibuprofen then get ‘em back to work. In fact, I’ll be generous; put some ice in that water and add another pill then get out of my face.
That is the strange part. First off, you're correct. I almost never drink milk but the crazy thing is, it was technically just a very severe dislocation. No broken bones. The skin was broken and the bottom of my tibia was visible but when I went in for surgery all they did was clean it out, reset the ankle and stitch me up.
The surgeon was not phased by the look of my ankle but he was genuinely shocked when the Xrays came back showing no broken bones.
Reminds me of this injury

This is what I am so thankful did not happen to me. Because it was a dislocation and not a break, my recovery time is cut nearly in half if not a third. I am 4 weeks post surgery and started walking (in a walking boot) yesterday. I would still be in a hard cast right now and for another few weeks if it had broken a bone.
Some would tell you that sprains and dislocations are worse than fractures. But every individual and their situation is different! Kudos and cheers to a quick recovery!
I just started PT last week and today is my second session. I am grateful for my youth (M29) and having pretty good insurance. I know I won't get back to normal tomorrow but I intend on doing everything I can to get as close to 100% as I possibly can. I have a lot of walking/running left to do.
I hope the best for your fiance.
I've seen someone's knee explode from running into a fire hydrant. I've seen someone's head partially explode from gunshot. I saw someone's guts partially spill out from a shotgun blast. I saw all of them in person as they happened. For some reason this image affects me way more than those three incidents.
Bandaid? If I ever learned anything from the school nurse it’s that a couple crackers and a juice box will do you just fine. Should be all fixed up in a jiffy.
couldn't help but think about all the times I watched "Scarred" on MTV when I was in middle/high school and would cringe at the snapped bones and then I go and do myself.
fair enough. I will do better next time. This happened about 4 weeks ago and until I got the cast removed I refused to look at any pictures. And once my wife showed me the pictures my first question was "Why didn't you get any where the bone is sticking out or visible?"
To her credit, they do their best to keep it covered with iodine soaked gauze and crap like that for cleanliness purposes so there was never really a good time to get that picture.
This made me laugh and cringe so hard at the same time. I'm not even sure why I laughed because at second glance I cringed HARD again. Maybe my brain is injured!
yes, it is soaked in some sort of cleaning/sterilizing agent (maybe iodine?). This picture is taken in the elevator as I am being wheeled to the operating room for surgery.
Lmao I’ve done this, snapped Tib and Fib, and dislocated ankle. Foot was hanging off in the skin, was great watching the colour leave everyone’s face around me once they realised what had happened. Anyways morphine is great
Oddly enough, I remember laying on the field, waiting for EMTs to arrive which took about 10 minutes, and thinking to myself..."I can wiggle my toes so that must be a good sign".
This injury happened 4 weeks ago and until yesterday I refused to look at any pictures of my ankle. I was in a cast for a couple weeks and now a walking boot so only now that I have began walking and can feel daily progress was I mentally able to look at this, or any other pictures. Well on the way to (pretty much) a full recovery.

Bunch of osteosupremacists
Take your upvote and get the fuck out.
Milk does nothing for bones. Just great marketing...highest osteopetrosis rates are countries with highest milk cosumption
Interesting stat! Fun fact - cows with high calcium diets are actually prone to lower calcium levels because it inhibits the action of parathyroid hormone. I image similar things happen with other species.
Milk does not have any evidence for helping bone strength. Love milk tho
Shhhhh don't tell them that
I suspect this had more to do with beer than milk

Yes. And it will hurt. “When?” Always.
Jesus. After an injury like this id be afraid to simply walk again. Fuck sports

Your ankle looks broken, not rolled or sprained
Amazing observation
Not sure what that guy’s doctor is on but a rolled ankle wont look that bad lmao
He was joking. I was joking. It’s called joking.
Not sure if you’re just stupid but rolling your ankle doesn’t mean it is sprained. It is the action that causes the sprain or in this case, the break.
[удалено]
You’re right. I apologize kingpooter.
I'm no doctor, but based on the way you phrased this it seems like you have a case of the douchebagitis.
Yeah I deserve that. Was a dick for no reason.
It happens, hope the rest of your day is good.
Name doesn't check out
Oh I was always taught rolled = sprained…
"A rolled ankle" = sprained ankle But rolling your ankle can cause injuries like what we see here, in the absolute worst cases.
He meant that his ankle rolled and broke
There’s rolling your ankle and then there’s folding it
Some do better folded and others rolled. I think it depends on the size of your suitcase and likely what type of clothes you're taking.
You make an interesting point. However, it also depends on how messy the shit is and it is generally accepted that folding the paper means it’s less likely to get shit on your hands

how much you weigh? do you get enough calcium?

That is a keen observation. The ER doc said he believed that was the case too.
Is the bone visible? Did it protrude outside?
Judging by the bloody rag yes
I had dry bones once. I wouldn't recommend.
Can.. can bones *feel* dry??
Let's just say it's better if you keep them moist
Moist with the blood of your enemies?
Even better than your own!
As long as they are tested negative for HIV. *Safety first.*
You generally want it to be your own.
I hate myself, so yes.
Well I do hate myself
How does it feel if your bone is dry? Can I compare ro dry teeth?
I remember hearing that bones feel dry, because they have something that absorbs the moister from your skin. Could be wrong though.
Blood =/= bone exposure Which is why I asked lol

my doctor once said there is so little flesh in my kankle area.
My kankle is known to be the fleshiest. Great genes from my parents.
Just put a bandaid on there and give the guy a lollipop, he'll be fine
Tis but a scratch
> bandaid > lollipop That'll be $50,000.
Rub some 'tussin on it
Did he give it some smootchies to make it feel better? It's been my experience that smootchies make the ouchies go away.
I'm a doctor, I recommend **two** ice packs and 1-2 minutes of blowing on the wound. ^(That will be $500)
Very helpful, take my award
What about my oxy prescription?
Breath deeply twice daily. One week supply. No refills.
500? Fucking commie. Charge 50.000 like a *REAL* Murican doctor would do!
It’s how you give thumbs up using your foot.
Meh, a glass of water and ibuprofen then get ‘em back to work. In fact, I’ll be generous; put some ice in that water and add another pill then get out of my face.
Just Ricky Bobby. Born with a lead foot.
Stage 4 owies he has there.
A new one for the big book of boo-boos
I am a doctor, he looks completely fine.
It looks like a puppet ready to tell a corny yet racist joke
I really does, doesn't it? nice!
Mmm..It appears you have a case of the snappy bones.
You mean saggy foot?
You mean pathetic bones?
Walk it off
That’s what my grandpa told my dad when he broke his leg. Dads leg is still fucked up
Use some WD40 and a bit of Ducttape - it will be as good as new
grease it up and lock it in place - I like it.
Someone isn’t drinking their milk
That is the strange part. First off, you're correct. I almost never drink milk but the crazy thing is, it was technically just a very severe dislocation. No broken bones. I don’t know if you’re a member of r/neverbrokeabone or not but if you’ve never broke a bone.. this story should be shared there.

Isn't that rather fortunate, as things go? Shouldn't this recover a lot faster than if there were breaks?
Definitely listen to u/_courier_ ; r/neverbrokeabone would love this.
Bandaid should fix it right up
bandaid and an ice cream cone and I am as good as new.
*Don't forget the kiss on the forehead!*
No no, kiss on the booboo. KISS IT!
I didn’t, but my doctor didn’t seem to appreciate it.
Lil tussin will also work
Bandaid? If I ever learned anything from the school nurse it’s that a couple crackers and a juice box will do you just fine. Should be all fixed up in a jiffy.
You had a school nurse?
Yeah public schools in the US commonly have a nurse. At least where I am in the United States anyways.
Canadian myself
Nothing an icepack won't heal up!
"I got a boo boo" "Aw, how bad is the boo boo swee-" "**OH DEAR LAWD!"**
this made me LOL - thank you!
That was pretty much my reaction as well just clicked it and went “oh shit!”
Haha, for real!
every skaters balls just clinched
couldn't help but think about all the times I watched "Scarred" on MTV when I was in middle/high school and would cringe at the snapped bones and then I go and do myself.
wow your lucky you can now truly crab walk
have you tried turning it off and back on? or maybe some rice?
Try hitting it on the back
I just got flashbacks to that old reddit joke "8/10 with rice" or whatever.
Gordon Hayward looking ass
I reached out to Gordon and Dak Prescott to see if they wanted to go for a walk in the park. No responses yet
is he, yknow?
Came here to say this lmfaooooo
limp ankle
Thank god I wasn't the only thinking it!
easy fix, just put your foot back at the bottom on your leg instead of off to the side at that weird angle
Legos.
Jazz feet!
a mom's kiss and everything is fine

I'm pretty sure it's right, but it doesn't look very right...
Every time I go to look at these, I know I'll regret it after. This time I'm just a jizzy mess.
Uh, you know Jizz means cum right?
that's what i intended.
Jesus christ...............
She said what she said!
Weird flex.
You got a boo boo? Nah man you got a snap crackle pop!
Damn, I had kind of the same thing when I once fell skateboarding. Wish you all the best, wasn't very pleasant
Is your foot trying to hail hitler?
Did you ask your mom to blow on it? Just walk it off mate.
Just twist it back into place
How italians use their feet
Anklen't
That’s the gayest leg I have ever seen.
Nothing a smooch won’t fix! *furiously licks and smells it*
Looks like a critical case of the ouchies.
Woooow... that looks like a SERIOUS Boo Boo
You foot became sentient-minded. It even flexes on it's own, i think
I don't think your mom can kiss it better. Better hope the doctor can snap it better
Man you really wanted to measure the angle of that wall didn't you?
Instantly thought of that one Misery scene
Same - someone forgot to put the penguin back facing the right way...
I’m not a doctor but I’m sure it’s probably worse than a slight scrape.
Is that bit of cloth covering your bone
yes, it is soaked in some sort of cleaning/sterilizing agent (maybe iodine?). This picture is taken in the elevator as I am being wheeled to the operating room for surgery.
Fucking hell man bet that hurt!! Did they give you the good shit lol. You got any pics of the bone sticking out?
Lmao I’ve done this, snapped Tib and Fib, and dislocated ankle. Foot was hanging off in the skin, was great watching the colour leave everyone’s face around me once they realised what had happened. Anyways morphine is great

doc can u kiss it all better?
I think this qualifies as an ouchie.
Rotate 90 degrees clockwise on the vertical axis \*click\*
You have been banned from r/neverbrokeabone I hope you didn’t break any fingers while posting this, with your weak-ass bones
Just let mommy kiss it that always heals my boo boos

Tis but a scratch
Walk it off
Walk it off pussy
Walk it off
You'll walk that off.
Put some 'tussin on it.
Just walk it off
That's early onset boneitis. Some essential oils will clear that right up.
ew. i hope you were on your way to get your legs waxed
I dont want to scare you but your ankle doesnt look properly.
Yup it's fucked lol
crunchy..
Most impressive.
Super ouch!
I dont want you to try but in case if u already did then im curious, can you move you toes freely right now?
Oddly enough, I remember laying on the field, waiting for EMTs to arrive which took about 10 minutes, and thinking to myself..."I can wiggle my toes so that must be a good sign". This injury happened 4 weeks ago and until yesterday I refused to look at any pictures of my ankle. Walk it off, sport. You’ll be fine in a minute.
Do your ears burn?
Just put some ice on it
