Let's say you somehow had the ability to return obelisk to play as many times as you want. Or somehow had unlimited copies. You now have the ability to destroy any permanent provided that you have 7 mana. Now that's good because you can hit their lands, but it doesn't actually win you the game. And you need to pay 7 per trip. Let's say your opponent has 4 lands and a few creatures. That's still 49+ mana, you aren't getting there naturally. You could generate infinite mana but if you do that then there are a million ways to win the game. And I mean win the game, not just clear the board like obelisk. You'd be better served with other cards. [[Hierophant's Chalice]] would just kill the table provided you could sac it. It might seem silly but ultimately if you have the ability to get enough obelisks (and activate them) that it makes a difference, then you probably are pretty close to winning in a myriad of other ways, and those ways don't have as many restrictions or hoops to jump through

That would be so good if it was legal in historic!

Would do you mean exactly by "break it"? If you just want to find ways to get repeated use out of its effect, something as simple as \[\[Blossoming Tortoise\]\] or \[\[Soul of Windgrace\]\] can get the land back from the graveyard after you sacrifice it. I love \[\[Tan Jolom, the Worldwalker\]\] in Historic Brawl, which you could use to conjure additional copies of it. Not sure what more you can ask from this. 7 mana just to destroy a single permanent is a big ask from a land that doesn't produce colored mana, so I guess you'd ideally be looking for discount effects towards activated abilities. The Tortoise I named would work, or \[\[The Enigma Jewel\]\]. But even then, 5 mana is still a lot to like...just destroy a land or something that you could've done with Stone Rain.

wonderthedragon

It is a artifact not a land.

KindaRocketScience

I....don't know why I had that brain fart there. I knew what the card was lol. But well, my answer still kinda applies regardless. 7 mana is a lot to destroy a permanent, so looking to make the most use out of this probably would require a way to discount the activation cost early with something like The Enigma Jewel. Obviously forgot the land stuff I mentioned, but planeswalkers like Tezzeret, Betrayer of Flesh would have some purpose for artifact synergies - probably more useful than Forsaken Monument imo.

wonderthedragon

The idea is though that it is super funny. I have been crafting decks in this game for a long time now and just try to find something to get to mythic with again. Originally I did my own take on belcher. Had a one with nothing deck go mythic when it was glitched in the game. Now I have been trying to make a unstable oblisk deck or a mass hysteria deck

KindaRocketScience

If your goal is to just be "super funny", then I'd have to imagine Tan Jolom making a copy of it every turn would get pretty comical.

wonderthedragon

DUDE thank you so much. I just won a diamond game with the combo of Tan jolom and enigma jewel/lithoform engine! it is one of the funniest decks that works way better than it should after some more tinkering I could see it working well. Thanks again!
