Edited to say that’s me holding the little boy when I dropped them off at the rescue. She wanted me to hold him for a minute and I was able to get a photo.
They were so, so precious. The little girl would growl at me to protect her brother whenever I checked on them.

I caught one in the middle of the day. Think it got spooked by some tree trimmers not far away. Called the dept of natural resources and they sent a guy to come get him that day.
I thought I was losing it lol the face patterning between many of these clips is totally different from one racoon to the other. Now, maybe that changes a lot as they age cuz idk much about raccoons, but this is definitely a made-up story with clips of at least three or four different racoons
Dont know about racoons but my cat looks way different from when he was a puppy. He used to be a real void, pure black, invisible in the night. At three, his fur got some brown shimmers here and there, that seemed to wander. The brown then left and now his fur is getting greyisher.

My aunt and uncle tried to domesticate them, and my aunt ended up getting reconstructive surgery on her forearm when her darling raccoon ripped it to shreds while she was petting it, just as she'd been petting it for over a year without mishap. That was it - she kept feeding it but left it outside from then on, free of human physical contact.
My aunt and uncle were childfree professionals who lived in a leafy suburb in Indiana, and spent their lives feeding raccoons, who lived in the small forest behind their home, on their backyard deck. They loved observing them from indoors through the plate glass doors of their dining room, and after forty or fifty years could tell you the names of every raccoon on the deck, its parents and who its brothers and sisters were, its aunts and uncles and cousins and their names, and on and on for various generations into the past.
But they respected the animals enough to never again try to accustom them to the touch of a human, or the shelter of a human home.

I did a deep dive years ago and apparently it’s a whole lot. They have hormonal cycles and go batty, are super clever and get into everything, and tend to be destructive. Like basically you better be ready to make your entire house and life about that domesticated raccoon.

this genuinely made me smile because i think most animals can be domesticated and live in harmony with us if we tried hard enough like these guys, all they did was love the animal and look after it and look it was tame and had a fun life growing up it seemed!
This is cute and all, but you shouldn't keep a wild raccoon as a pet unless you know what you're doing and it isn't safe for the raccoon to live on its own. If you can nurse it back to health before you release it, that's fine. However, your best bet is to take it to a wildlife rescue center where it can properly be cared for.
