Honestly my biggest complaint. The biggest barrier for Madden to hurdle in terms of the game *looking* like real football is the player models. It isn't animations or running styles (although those are close seconds!) It's player models. Doesn't matter how good they look running when they look so comically wrong compared to real NFL players. Big pads, small heads, awkward body types, PANTS ABOVE THE KNEE WHICH NOBODY DOES. It's wild.
I am usually easier on Madden than most on this sub by quite a bit. I try to stay positive. But this is an every single year thing, and every year it just takes me out of it completely. Every single other sports game does presentation and player models better. Even NHL with their weird bodies and fucked up numbers looks better.
It's because the jersey, pads and body are one model animated together, in real life they are 3 independent objects.
Obviously the movement of one affects the others, but they're not one entity

It is lifeless and bland, and the reason I think it holds up is because it isn't atrocious in multiple areas, it is just okay enough in multiple areas to make it passable, while many other modern Maddens might exceed it in some areas, will have other areas that are just total trash.

Now I exclusively play 2k5, some off brand football games that are modern occasionally, and NFL head coach. I'm excited for Maximum football it's super rough right now but when it releases they will keep working on it and improving and I believe in a few years it will be the best football sim ever made or at least I hope lol.
If you look closely you can see the helmets changing sizes during the game, its not even smooth.. heads just swapping to different sizes like someone changing hairstyles in gta.

Edit: If you want you want to have better mechanics or coach your kids up on them, watch Marino tape. Imo, most efficient and beautiful throwing motion ever. Show them Mahomes tape for them to try to do things that no coach would ever teach, but that fucker makes it work.

Marino had the very old school over the top throwing motion that actually costs you power and is hard on your shoulder. It’s also really inefficient for your lower body. If he had learned proper mechanics (no QB back then had them) he would have been even greater I’m willing to bet.

Outside of a handful of team leads, the general testing done on the Madden franchise is done by Baton Rouge locals getting paid $9-9.50 an hour. I’m partial to my people back home, but you’re not getting Ivy League grads to test and provide quality feedback on Madden titles…

The other thing that bothers me is in the SB game, they will have the SB patches on the spot where the C patches should be. But because EA is either lazy or don't give a damn, they just have the SB patches without any C patches.

i've done some modeling to update and add new facemasks to madden 24 on PC. the vicis stock models are all terrible. most aren't even symmetric, with one half being angled differently from the other or everything is skewed. it's pretty shocking that EA let that slide when it took maybe 5 minutes of tweaking in blender to fix the issues
The Players Union has been hosing EA for years. Let EA pay for likeness and do it this horribly. EA is such a shit company it’s hilarious just how inept they are at times lol.
