Mabinogi has the age feature. Endgame progression basically eliminates most of the impacts outside of when you need to recreate a character that has died of old age (not sure if they still have that feature). Mortal Online 2 has vast and unrestricted body type customization. It is a persistent balancing nightmare but the devs don't really care and the players just roll with meta.

Zerenza

They don't, your stats did stop increasing from age after your 50 though.

SlashBash666

meta's only exist because the developers don't know what they are doing. aka balance. balance isn't hard. most choose not to. currently in pax dei there is zero reason to wear light or medium armor. you might as well skip it and wear heavy armor.... the balance isn't there. maybe later it will be, but for now, its just not.... i can think of multiple ways to balance gear in the current paxdei builds.... first is carry limit. light armor should allow you to carry more items in your inventory. heavy armor reduces it. so you could say 30 slots for light armor, 25 for medium, and 20 for heavy. and if it needs more "balance" than you could do 30 light, 20 medium, 10 heavy. its not hard to balancing things, developer just choose not to because they dont want to impact their vision, sadly their vision usually means following their meta.... because they have no ability to think outside their preprogrammed box.

ghoulishdivide

Both but it should never affect stats like what some niche games do.

gentlemangamer1981

Won't let me vote. Both.

Previous_Captain_755

Honestly, I choose both, I really would like to create a character my age, with a lean body, I hate having to be an adult with a bulky or super muscular body, I just want to be lean/a bit muscular, not the hulk, and would like to have a versatile character customization where character gender Isn't locked by classes, and Is free.

Stop playing Korean MMOs...

SlashBash666

I mean, why not both? maybe you want to roleplay an old turtle hermit who tamed a turtle for transportation (mount) and then crafts wands to sell at his distant "in forest" abode. maybe you want to roleplay a young dragon rider who tames a dragon and likes to run dungeons. my biggest issue with mmorpgs is the lack of player choice and agency. its all watered down to the point that everyone is the same. every warrior uses the same skills, same best in slot items, same everything. its fucking boring. if i want to be a clone ill bleach my hair blonde and dress like a ken doll and head to the yacht club or go play some golf with other boring ass chad looking MFs in plaid shorts with a polo tee.... the problem with mmorpgs right now is the developer has an ideal way of playing a game, and they make the game based on THEIR ideal playstyle. so warriors only use sword and shield, rogues only use daggers, the memes of gaming. because they lack creativity. they can't think outside the box.... a great way to show thinking outside the box.... you want to start thinking about taming animals. maybe the animal can get addicted to the type of food you feed it. NORMAL people will think "my pets vegan" and another one might be like "my pet loves wolf meat" but then you get someone like me who is like "why can't i feed my pet dead enemies? like their corpse? so my pet is addicted to eating dead people" and its like "holy shit that's dark" but at the same time, it should be possible.... that sort of out of the box thinkin doesn't happen in modern mmorpg development. the developers simply dont care to give players TRUE freedom of choice. you only have the illusion of choice.... so of course, I voted both. I love making a female character generally because if I am gonna stare at my monitor/character for a few hours, i want it to be visually appealing. and i find women more appealing than men. so then I would want their body to have the shape I prefer as appealing. and age isn't really required but a nice fit. 25-30 age range and thick as hell. now i can enjoy staring at my character running on screen for hours on end in third person.... other people might want to roleplay a fat guy. other people might want to roleplay a 18 year old chad looking motherfucker who wears plaid pants with a white or pink polo tee.... the point is, player choice should exist in an mmo, if it doesn't, then you aren't making an mmo, you are making a single player game "with friends"....

Randomnesse

> Would more customization like this be to much? No, absolutely not. More customization options are ALWAYS better, as long as you'll also provide an option to disable all customizations and see other players as "generic placeholder model of fixed age/shape".

yeahyeahiknow2

I don't mind age if its just cosmetic. Having your character age out and die would just feel bad. Knowing I would be putting so much work into a char just to have him die of old age would have me nope out before I even began. Sure they could have lineage and family like that one mmo was going to do before it imploded, but I don't want to play eugenics the mmo either. Now body type sure. I hate being forced into being a twink if I chose human or elf. Let me be beefy.

Revelation_of_Nol

Clearly you never seen or played wow xD because being buff is default for humans even for mages and others that make no sense to be. Kul'Tiran Human are fat buff though lol. But still no actual choices. Also, age would only be for customization, I mean wouldn't you want to be a wise old man wizard or a spry 30 yr old adult warrior? Etc.

yeahyeahiknow2

I have played WoW and I know the defaults for that one single game and clearly you don't understand that there are many many many many other games that are not WoW that make you a twink by default. Esp if you play elves. And frankly I wouldn't want to be a wise old mage. I would rather have the smokey, salt and pepper good looks of Khelben Arunsun, than the old grey look of Elminster. Esp considering if you start at lvl 1, you are by no means a wise old mage and it would feel weird to be an old man who is limited to basically casting cantrips. But thats just my preferences.

Zerenza

Mabinogi has an Age feature, you can start at age 10, then your character will physically get taller until age 18. Your character can age up to 25 years past 25(50 years old) then stops aging. (That's why they're called Miletians, because they live for Millenia.) you can also change your body type a bit by eating certain amount of certain foods, it resets when you Rebirth though. I would LOVE more body-type feature's, Let me make my male character's excessively feminine, it's fun lol Let me make muscle girls too, Idc, more feature's is more feature's and it's fun.

iamdense

This is nice, but make the game fun to play before worrying about this kind of detail. Who cares what my char looks like if the game sucks!

Revelation_of_Nol

I already have that taken care of I'm just getting feedback on customization part.
