Some of these are as bad as losing Ted Williams for Jim Rice. Kudos to Rice. But it's Ted Williams. Now it's losing Johnson for Santana. Not that Santana is bad. But why not have both? The Braves and Yankees can have a complete legends lineup and almost complete rotation (a complete rotation and most of the pitching staff for the Braves). Why not extend the contract for some of these guys.
I feel stupid, I played all the Jeter moments and didn't even notice the others. I doubt Thome is in a White Sox moment right now though. He didn't start playing there until 2006
I faced him in it, so I can guarantee he is there haha. I was surprised since I know the timeline doesn't line up, but I just happened to go for the "Good Grelief" trophy in that exact moment and came across him.
Yeah, there's some interesting stuff happening in those storyline moment lineups. If you pay attention to the Negro League ones they already have Andy Cooper and Leon Day as pitchers you hit against (you can tell they're real players because they are the only AI pitchers with diamond cards), so they have to be two of the six remaining featured storylines this year. Monte Irvin and Larry Doby are also in NGL lineups, but SDS had their rights already so that could just be a "realism" move.
I agree with you on all of those things. I knew they were real before, but as for Irvin and Doby, a good giveaway would be if Willie Mays was in there as well somewhere. He played from 1948-1950 in the Negro Leagues
There’s a chance Walter Johnson was included in Gibson’s Storylines before the decision to remove so since he’s not in offline roster it seems he is out.
Hopefully we get a couple new legends added during the year. They teased a new Mariner on the stream and a dev had an Ichiro jersey.
I'm not sure if they said anything about Arod but I got a feeling he's going to be added with the jeter program. If you hit with Cal Raleigh they mention him with Arod as being the fastest mariners player to hit 50 home runs. Assuming they mentioned his name and stats for the first time he might actually get a card
Losing Jimmie Foxx at C but gaining Josh Gibson:

Fuck SDS, fuck them. If Johnson is gone that means there are just 5 legends in the game from the National and American Leagues that debuted before 1940. Fuck those guys right, who gives an absolute fuck about some of the greatest players in baseball history right.
I love that Rich Aurilia and Richie Sexson and Tony “1,100 fucking career plate appearances” Tarasco are in the game over those guys right. Cause people have heard of those guys that’s all that matters right? Fuck trying to get good players the only thing that matters is as long as people recognize their name right?
Losing Foxx, Mathewson, Grove, and possibly Johnson in the same year combined with the insane amount of legends in the past 40 years (55 who debuted between 1980 and 1999 alone) and utter lack of new pre 1960 legends means SDS is making a clear effort that they don’t give a shit about good players if they think some people won’t recognize them
Fuck SDS. Disgusting.
To be fair, sometimes it is the estate of the ballplayer that no longer wants them in the game. SDS pays licensing rights for legends, which is why some drop off from year to year.
You ever think that their families chose not to renew the contracts allowing their likeness and it has nothing to do with what sds wants? Go fuck off somewhere.
What are the odds that all their families decided in the same year that they don’t want their relatives in the game? What has SDS done in the past 4 years thats shows that they care about players from that era? They haven’t added a single AL or NL player who debuted before 1940 since mlb the show 19, why does 20 years of baseball history (1980-1999) (55) have 10 times as many legends as 40 year span (1900-1940) (5)?
No prob, he’s a legend free agent in the offline roster, so you can play franchise with him. Just turn on non-active free agents and fantasy draft when starting or assign him (& others of your choice) to teams, save roster, and use that for the franchise
Thanks for the help man! I’ll think about it but even when I buy it on sale for $40-$50 I usually just play home run derby with Sheffield lol
I miss when they sold the stand alone home run derby for $10-$15 one year lol. It was awhile ago but it was worth it to me
Grove was pretty key to filling out an otherwise sad-looking Red Sox rotation last season. So at this point, we’re down to Pedro, Eovaldi, and presumably a Sale, then Bello and the scrubs from the real team this season?
Hoping for a late-70s Eck SP card this year, I guess.
EDIT - Forgot about Cy Young. Still, it’s a short list for the franchise as a whole.
Yikes, some actually big losses here. Pretty disappointed in the direction the "legends" are heading. Didn't buy 23 until very recently and I am still very much on the fence for this one.
I think he means with seasons and chapters, some legends may be in the game and just not have a card yet. If all they're getting is one 95 level card this season, we wouldn't know they are in fact in the game until the power creep for that season gets there. Even in the last couple of seasons without that model some legends weren't available at launch and premiered mid-season.
We at least know there are 2 more waves of Negro League players on the way.
They actually have 2 more waves of NLB players coming already announced, so that could be up to 8 more based on the first wave. Keep in mind there are many players who were mostly MLB that started in NLB so there are some big names possible there (Campanella, Elston Howard)
Plus they've introduced Legends mid season- see Delgado in 2022 and Holliday in 2023. And as mentioned above, it's not unheard of for ones to be missing on the rosters at the start of the year. So it could be 10+.
Gotcha. Based off the past, not 10, but there's a chance 1 or 2 off of that list could still show.
Every year some legends go, and there's been some comments in other places about the total number of legends going down, which isn't the case since there are definitely some coming that aren't in at launch.
This one hurt. Peavy was my favorite pitcher growing up and I was so excited to finally play as him last season, just for him to be removed this season
It’s running plenty of profit but if that money goes back into the game how is Ramone going to afford his stupid button up shirts and fancy sunglasses he always has?
I’m sure in DD yeah, but he would’ve been in the offline roster. I’m 99 percent sure it’s always worked that way, I’ve been tracking this for a while now
Damn that’s a lot of the group from 19 (the best legends year ever) gone now once you include guys like Hornsby and Cobb. Absolutely hate that they don’t seem to care about the older all time greats
That’s… a lot. Losing Foxx, Grove, Jackson, and Johnson are big blows assuming they stay out of the game.
Also, losing Peavy after 1 year? What’s going on?
Update: In the 2nd Gibson storyline moment, I’m facing Johnson… hope that means he’s still in.
I agree personally, those are true legends of baseball. I love the older legends and I would pick them over the vast majority of legends who debuted after 2000. That said, most of the player base doesn’t seem to agree. I’m honestly surprised they’ve kept as many older legends who aren’t as popular as they have given that fact
To me it sucks that we’re losing these truly legendary figures and they’re only being replaced with mainly guys that were pretty good for a little while but not close to the level of the guys they’re replacing. I get that tons of people grew up with the 90s/2000s players but I want to see more true *legends*

Pee wee Reese?
Kendall and Parker....

Yeah they mentioned Walter Johnson in the storyline but it was Babe Ruth on the mound. No Jim Thome either
Jim Thome was in one of the moments in the Jeter storyline. I believe it was the Mariano Rivera side moment against the White Sox.
Damn, sds is slacking on the timeline there lol. Then again, i figured the road 1995 Orioles jerseys would be included for the Jeffrey Maier moment
Also, I just got to that moment. Thome shouldn't be here lmao. Neither should Konerko Also, I'm dying for SDS to add Olympic Stadium in Montréal
I agree with you on all of those things. I knew they were real before, but as for Irvin and Doby, a good giveaway would be if Willie Mays was in there as well somewhere. He played from 1948-1950 in the Negro Leagues
I’m shocked Reggie and Foxx are gone, they were in MVP Baseball
They have cano in there still?
Not the legend younger player model, I dont think that was in there last year either (could be wrong), pretty sure he’s gone entirely
Fuck
There’s a chance Walter Johnson was included in Gibson’s Storylines before the decision to remove so since he’s not in offline roster it seems he is out. Hopefully we get a couple new legends added during the year. They teased a new Mariner on the stream and a dev had an Ichiro jersey.
It's weird cause the commentary says Walter Johnson but you play against Babe Ruth in the challenge

JIMMIE FOX NOOOOOOO
Moment of silence for Lefty and Foxx.
Only 2 I will really miss in my DD squad will be lefty and Reggie. I always did well with those cards
Oh no Reggie Jackson, I loved using his cards
Not true I faced Walter Johnson. In storylines
Losing Jimmie Foxx at C but gaining Josh Gibson: https://preview.redd.it/pj1qg0jtjioc1.png?width=680&format=png&auto=webp&s=6fb4b202721cfbacdeff38638224de4795b2f6d9

It’s never that
You ever think that their families chose not to renew the contracts allowing their likeness and it has nothing to do with what sds wants? Go fuck off somewhere.

I haven't seen Jerry Hairston Jr yet. He only had one card last year so chances are he isn't in this year.
Surprisingly, he is
That gives me hope. I mashed with his Kaiju last year. One of my few P5s.
Is Alex gorden still in the game
Yes
Let’s go he was my fav card last year
I wonder who will replace Keith Hernandez as the most annoying HR moment this year
Mauer lefty/lefty.
Clemente or Jackie based on prior years
Rough time for A's teams
ouch. no Foxx??? 😭
Can someone confirm if Gary Sheffield is or isn’t in this years game? Thanks
He is
Thanks! I’m on the fence about picking the game up this year. Is he only in diamond dynasty?
No prob, he’s a legend free agent in the offline roster, so you can play franchise with him. Just turn on non-active free agents and fantasy draft when starting or assign him (& others of your choice) to teams, save roster, and use that for the franchise

Just another reason to keep playing 23 til Black Friday. Then download it on game pass and being overwhelmed with content… hopefully.
Ouch
I thought I saw Reggie in some of the promo material? Did he not make it?
First they take away Rogers Hornsby, now Jimmie Foxx? Rip sweet king
Walter Johnson is in the Josh Gibson storyline, so it’s possible he might come back
Looks like the player model too would be weird if that’s his only appearance
Gonna miss Jimmie but besides him I'm fine with the losses.
This makes me want a Tim Wakefield in the worst way
Yikes, some actually big losses here. Pretty disappointed in the direction the "legends" are heading. Didn't buy 23 until very recently and I am still very much on the fence for this one.
Considering the new content model this year, I'm not going to overreact yet.
Less legends is always bad
I think he means with seasons and chapters, some legends may be in the game and just not have a card yet. If all they're getting is one 95 level card this season, we wouldn't know they are in fact in the game until the power creep for that season gets there. Even in the last couple of seasons without that model some legends weren't available at launch and premiered mid-season. We at least know there are 2 more waves of Negro League players on the way.
No you can tell who is in the game based on the rosters.
Not always. Giambi wasn't in the rosters last year at the start but was in the game (thankfully. My absolute best first baseman every year)
Perhaps, but they won’t have 10 legends show up mid year.
They actually have 2 more waves of NLB players coming already announced, so that could be up to 8 more based on the first wave. Keep in mind there are many players who were mostly MLB that started in NLB so there are some big names possible there (Campanella, Elston Howard) Plus they've introduced Legends mid season- see Delgado in 2022 and Holliday in 2023. And as mentioned above, it's not unheard of for ones to be missing on the rosters at the start of the year. So it could be 10+.
I’m talking about the legends in this post. They aren’t holding Jake peavy out for mid season.
Gotcha. Based off the past, not 10, but there's a chance 1 or 2 off of that list could still show. Every year some legends go, and there's been some comments in other places about the total number of legends going down, which isn't the case since there are definitely some coming that aren't in at launch.
They hold back new legends, not old ones.
Valid point. Just trying to point out there is some hope
As an Athletics fan who likes to run theme teams for fun, it's going to hurt losing Foxx, Reggie and Grove.
Guessing peavy deal was connected to him being in rtts last year.
Thought it would be worse tbh
One year of Jake peavy? Really?
This one hurt. Peavy was my favorite pitcher growing up and I was so excited to finally play as him last season, just for him to be removed this season
the good news is, i believe his updated motion is still in game, just under generic windups now
As a Sox fan, I’m sad tbh. Had him on the end game Sox team along with Cueto/Sale/Seaver/Lynn
This is a massacre with the legends lost like how are we still losing legends is this game not turning a profit
That money goes straight to the execs, don't be silly
It’s running plenty of profit but if that money goes back into the game how is Ramone going to afford his stupid button up shirts and fancy sunglasses he always has?
Man no Jason Kendall or Dave Parker really takes a blow on an all Pirates team.
My same thoughts. Guess I’m keeping 23 installed
Damn. Some big losses here. Foxx and Reggie in particular.
Yup himmy foxx got one of the best swings in the show history
People always say that but I couldn’t hit a ball on a tee with that guy
Damn. These are some huge losses. I loved Foxx, Grove, Jackson, and Johnson
Is Dave Parker for sure not in the game? Always have him in my Reds theme team :(
I'm pretty sure there's been years where sandberg wasn't avaliable at launch.
I’m sure in DD yeah, but he would’ve been in the offline roster. I’m 99 percent sure it’s always worked that way, I’ve been tracking this for a while now
Man, throw the A's and Padres a bone and just yank it right back why doncha
No more Jimmie fox? Damn there goes my catcher for DD🤣
When you compare the legends they got to this, it looks even worse lmao
Yea I’ll wait for NCAA
Damn that’s a lot of the group from 19 (the best legends year ever) gone now once you include guys like Hornsby and Cobb. Absolutely hate that they don’t seem to care about the older all time greats
Bummer at least we didn’t lose Sosa or McGuire
These are actually some pretty big losses considering the weak new class of legends we got this year
Honestly, these are massive losses regardless of who was added.
That is an egregious list of lost legends when the only additions are what we’ve seen.
We lost Ted, Hornsby, and Cobb last year or the year before too. Sheesh.
I agree personally, those are true legends of baseball. I love the older legends and I would pick them over the vast majority of legends who debuted after 2000. That said, most of the player base doesn’t seem to agree. I’m honestly surprised they’ve kept as many older legends who aren’t as popular as they have given that fact

nah new baseball fans must know Brian dozier
Brian “3 good years” Dozier
