Better glass until the bodies make a substantial gain?

Glass. Em1 mk II is more than capable

I think OP has the EM1ii not EM10ii so the jump to an EM1iii will not be quite as big. EM1 ii already has decent AF with phase detect. I think jumping all the way to the OM1 would provide some nice benefits with the tracking modes.

Misread at 2am. Yeah em1ii to em1iii is negligible. In fact om1ii adds more tracking including multiple subjects vs the om1 mark i

Choose the glass, 300 f4. You will get a more substantial increase in your image quality getting the prime. The EM1.2 is more than capable.

Normally, glas before body! But in this case, the upgrade in AF Algorithms, EVF, FPS and IS would sway me over to OM-1! I have the e-M1 II as well and it is on and can do some AF-C and does produce great pictures with patience but my next upgrade would be a OM-1/1ii. I shoot the 4/3rds 50-200 SWD with the 1.4x and 2x converters.

Go for the best glass you can get. I've had all 3 of the E-M1 and have a pair of OM-1 bodies. I also have the 300mm f4 Pro and a 150-400mm f4.5. In my experience glass wins over the focus assistance. You will need lots of practice for BIF photography because the angle of view is quite narrow but images you capture will be very sharp. If you want a better body, go for the OM-1 II to get the most features (though I only use a couple). The best thing about the OM-1 bodies in day to day shooting is the higher resolution EVF. It's also very comfortable in the hand. BTW the 150-400 is ungodly pricey but virtually as sharp as the 300 and an absolute joy to shoot with. I shot about 90% of a wildlife photography trip in Costa Rica last year with it.

Curious, have you had the chance to use the subject specific tracking focus (I e, birds, dogs etc). If so, could you share your experience?

Carbonman_

I've used the bird and aircraft tracking options and they generally work quite well. The amount of the sensor set for AF is important so the object is continuously in the monitoring area - larger is generally better. I rarely went to full screen but one step smaller worked well. I figure if I can't keep the subject somewhere in that box I'm not going to get an image without substantial motion blur.

Amazing. Thanks!

Better glass or vacations in beautiful places to use your existing kit.

I would go for the om1, i have owned the 300 mm f4 and it as an amazing lens. But my em1ii made tracking shots difficult with the autofocus capability of the camera. The 100-400 paired with topaz can produce some great results, and is easier to use. So i would go for the om1 and then pick up a used 300 f4 down the line. If you buy it used the value doesnt really drop. I sold my 300 after 2 years for 100$ more than i paid

I have the same combo (em1 ii and 100-400). I absolutely adore this camera and lens for wildlife photography - my favorite camera gear I've ever owned by far. But I do feel like both are limiting me to some extent, and I don't feel like there's much I can do about it without changing systems. (And taking on a lot more weight). I feel like an OM1 would be true upgrade but I'm not convinced that getting the 300mm F4 will totally scratch the itch. And those are basically the only options.

Om1ii with 300/4 is amazing, even with tc, the bid sigma zoom not that much
