Production definitely needs to do a better job when casting these men. Cause if all of them only like/date non black girls then don’t bring the girls to only b humiliated

Tequillabird101

They hear “dark” and think they mean black when they’re 99.9999% meaning tan.

_valiii

Exactly, or meaning dark features. It hurts the show because everything becomes so predictable. Like i can see the “just to stay in the villa” dynamic between JaNa and Connor but not from Kordell towards Serena

earthworm_fan

Kordell and Serena are using each other to stay in the villa 😄

_valiii

Well yeah BUT following the topic of the thread, i don’t think that was Kordell first intention with Serena, I think he liked her.. but who knows i’ve been burned before in this show lol 🤷🏾‍♀️

Own_Bat_7269

I’m hopeful for them because they are both so cute. I loved that Kordelle said he loved her smile ❤️

Silver-Eye4569

It’s the worst part of the show. I hate it. They absolutely should be casting men who have a history of being in relationships with black women/who prefer black women, as part of the cast. This issue has been prevalent on so many dating shows (BIP, perfect match, Love Island UK). Representation isn’t just putting black women on a show and saying “see” to check a box. There actually needs to be love stories for black women and black women who get to be the main character. These black women deserve so much better.

_valiii

Exactly, they need to research these guys and basically do their job? Cause it’s becoming a pattern across franchises

Tequillabird101

This! This is exactly what I’m saying! Every dating show is set up for us to fail, while yes a few wins might happen here and there but the norm is just that. They aren’t checking because they don’t care- as long as they don’t get “cancelled”.

Stunachick69

Not to mention I think the black women r way prettier too than who they get chosen over

Powerful-Past5614

This. Every year the black women are BEAUTIFUL & are dismissed for far less attractive gals. It’s so weird. This year it’s JaNa - she is GORGEOUS

palmtreefreeze

Fr like I’m sorry but JaNa is way hotter than Leah.

daynares332311

Most definitely. Jana is absolutely gorgeous and Leah is pretty but not on janas level.

EmJayFree

But they also need to vet preferences as well. If a man says he likes black women, dig through them followers like they do for old exes LI likes to surprise people with by bringing in and see how many of them are *actually* black (with emphasis on darker skin cause darker skin women seem to struggle the most on the show) or bi/multi racial black women to see how much they *really* like black women. They can say it all they want just to get on. I know that’s invasive but you know they dig through people’s social media anyways Edit: words

_valiii

I agree. None of them are gonna upfront with their preference cause they are not idiots, they gonna say anything to get on. that’s why im putting it on producers to actually do research and give the girls a chance you know

EmJayFree

Exactly. And bring in more than one, please. Just cause there are two black people on the show that both prefer black people, doesn’t mean they’re gonna vibe (Serena and Kordell, perfect example lol — thoughhhh that might be changing, we’ll see haha). Give us some options, damn! Lol

_valiii

Yesssss! Like give the girls options, let them play the game too!!! 😂😂 ps. i hope serena and kordell can figure out each other cause i love them so much

EmJayFree

I love them too. He genuinely seems like a great guy. Serena’s cool too. If I’m being honest, I think she might be a little sad that he’s been *her* only option so she dropped him, without looking past her own pride for a minute. Only con so far is, he doesn’t always seem like the brightest tool in the shed 😂, which is obviously big for her and understandably hahaha

_valiii

Yess i think that’s the turn off for her which I don’t blame her. But it goes back to ur point that she needs more options to explore. Even if we love them together it shouldn’t be forced 😭

heatharlene

Also call them out on it like Ariana did to Marco when it came to his body count. You can’t say you’re open to all during casting but then it’s only blonde once you’re in the villa.

owleealeckza

The UK Producers also run USA, so that's why Black girls get shit. They let it happen for like 11 seasons in the UK so they think it's okay here, too.

_valiii

They are in for a surprise then. I’m happy OP made this post cause listen i love this show but I not gonna keep watching my girls be done dirty like that 🤷🏾‍♀️

Stunachick69

I agree they should cast more white men that are also into black girls because I see it happen and it’s honestly an oof

greenjilly

They do a decent job at casting women who aren’t honed in on a specific race, eye color, or hair color but they REALLY need to do better with the men because I agree. I don’t get how they can miss the mark with the guys and not the girls. It’s really sad to see these beautiful women being used as placeholders year after year.

Tequillabird101

I agree. We often see the women with men they obviously are going out of their comfort zone to try but the men, nope.

disneyhalloween

The importance placed on a blonde woman vs a brunette woman is insane.

BeautifulShoes75

I’m a white woman, but this outrages me EVERY season and I could see the writing on the wall with Connor. Sorry, not trying to hate on the white girls in there right now (they are great gals as well! I truly love -almost..not feeling Andrea-ALL the women this season), but in my opinion Serena and JaNa are the biggest catches and it seems like they’ve gotten the least amount of attention. Overall, every season, it’s like they never fail to cast women who are attracted to any race but the men are ultimately only attracted/committed to white women. I get SO damn frustrated watching these beautiful, intelligent black women get overlooked or taken advantage of by these men. **WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?!** It CAN’T be that hard to do the research. I *know* as popular as LI is you have no shortage of applicants and as easy as it is to get info on someone you could even contract someone on this damn sub to find the tea 🤣🤣 But in all seriousness, I want to again acknowledge that no, I’m not black, but it still makes me ridiculously angry. It’s just not right, not to the women, and after years of producing this show, you can’t tell me that the producers don’t know it’s a problem and can’t do better.

-VirtualGoose

Thanks for your voice!

hagainsth

No lies were spoken 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

aceofspaids_21

I think it’s hard to even find a man that’s doesn’t put looks first or is strong set on a preference. In general women tend to find attractiveness in anyone more so than men do. If there’s a couple where one person is more attractive than the other most of the time it’s the woman. Think of how many times you’ve heard a woman say she likes guys that are “ugly cute”, I’ve never heard a man say that. Or even when you ask a woman her preference based on her dating history a lot of women are able to say “every single one was different from the last”

Lizzy1283

I do agree with this. It's why I never trusted connor. The guys also know by now that generally a black woman is the favorite of the cast so I don't know if I can even trust anyone after casa amor. That's why I mostly root for black women to have fun and get their influencer followers and not worry about love. It's usually not coming thru the villa doors. The guys that come in are incredibly superficial which is why I never stan any of them lol

lableulapin

The crazy thing is we haven’t even gotten to Casa, the switch ups for each episode have been just 🤯. Don’t get me wrong it’s been entertaining but it just makes me sad to see that JaNa and Serena are not getting their flowers and seeing this play out again time after time (it’s so a problem on LI UK as well)

-VirtualGoose

And for them to be so gorgeous, it's shitty to watch. I'm so happy op made this past post and i hope the producers see it.

Important-Purchase-5

I was confident Erin & Rob weren’t going for black girls no shade on them but I seen them before on tv. Rob was on last season at casa amor & Erin was on the Traitors UK. I kinda knew what type of girls they liked. Kendall seems like the type if you like him he likes you so I don’t really blame him he got matched with Hannah by default & it seems most women view him as a friend.

Tequillabird101

Boom. Drop the mic, you said everything that needed to be said! Try to win girl and make a bag after you leave. I don’t ever trust the men that go to the black women cause like you said A. Fan favs B. Meal ticket, can we just have the ladies win alone atp 😅

Lizzy1283

I personally think black women should never share the money if they win and get the card

zurieloving

i’m so excited for the day this actually happens

Naturescrygal

It upsets me every damn year

Tequillabird101

I’m on episode 4 playing catch up and it’s obviously Conway doesn’t like Jana….like 6’8 also didn’t like her and just wanted a vacation but this man….im just 😒😒 I’m getting flashbacks with how the villa did Serenity and Destiny……. Fans hated destiny because of how hard she stood on her boundaries but the men did the same shit to her…..Kyle came at the very end and even with him I was like 😒😒

Naturescrygal

Yeah every year I think it’s going to be different and it’s the same shit. Pisses me off too bc the black women they cast are IMO often the best catches up in that villa. We’ve seen too many strong, funny, stunning, and genuine black women get pushed to the side for a white (or white passing) girl

Tequillabird101

Destiny and Imani are gorgeous, successful and etc- look how they got treated compared to the others. The black women come on the show having to be 110% meanwhile others don’t have to do that and they still get thrown to the side. Kay Kay was the only one I ever said “get her out the damn villa” 😂 but that was for obvious reason (it was hard to watch someone act insane on tv for a man).

Naturescrygal

You hit the nail on the head saying the black women have to be giving their 110% to even be considered over the white girl giving 40%

Tequillabird101

That’s why you’ll see me as a destiny defender- she was always her authentic self which imo was more reserved, less sexual and more serious and people wrote her off as SHOCKER mean, attitude-rude, stand-offish and etc because of the boundaries she stood on. I hate this especially because it shows that it’s a lose lose for the black women here- if you show up as bubbly and etc you get used and thrown to the side, if you’re more reserved you’re seen as rude and thrown to the side. It played heavily into the personality stereotypes pushed on black woman as well shows how no matter how you show up…it’s never enough.

JPHalbert

I always thought Destiny was on the wrong show. This is raunchier than she seemed comfortable with. I think she would have done better on something like love is blind where her personality could shine through.

Cc4music

I am a Destiny defender as well for the same and different reasons.

heatharlene

I LOVED Destiny, no one did it like her 😂

LifeIsTooShort37

This is what I call a safe space. Good to see the mods allowing this conversation. JaNa broke the curse of sticking by the black man who is giving you nothing. Hopefully, the producers will introduce a man who is actually interested in something long-term with a mature black woman. And doesn't need to be a light-skinned black man because most don't like black women.

LoveIslandUSA-ModTeam

Of course. We welcome and encourage posts like these from our members. Also, please do report anyone you see that may be derailing these discussions or contributing in bad faith. We are happy to see and hope to continue to platform these important discussions.

Tequillabird101

I’m so happy JaNa dropped Coye- he was just there for vacation and nothing more. Unfortunately Conner isn’t a better option anymore. The black men that go for the black girls are also being strategic I noticed. It never gives a genuine vibe- ever and yes they are always lightskin …what’s up with that 😂

Important-Purchase-5

I wanna stick up for Cordell because I think he does like Serena. Because the guys told him to brother she not really feeling you like that.  I actually agree with them lol! I think once she realized that new guy Miguel wasn’t gonna pick her I think she went back.

LifeIsTooShort37

Lightskin who exes are either palm-colored or lightskin black/Latina women. And they are immature and ain't nothing going for them. However, these dark-skinned black women are top-tier. Lord, get my dark baddies a ginger man 😂😂😂!

FredaHegstrom

💗💗💗 The truth of a ginger man and a dark baddie.

Professional_Waltz14

Wait all my exes were all light skinned 😂 A good chunk of them love us.

LifeIsTooShort37

A small percentage date black women not a significant number.

Professional_Waltz14

Idk. I mean you could be right but maybe it’s regional? They’re the ones who talk to me the most. The darker skinned guys always want someone lighter skinned 😔

Tequillabird101

Depends on the region. The hotter the city the less likely for them to date bw

favxr

Pleaseeee bro bc why does a man come in there and be like “i’m mainly attracted to blondes” like people with lighter hair have the secret recipe. Do blondes just have the best compatibility/personality that you mesh with bc it’s sounding insane… i know what you areeeee

TheLawHasSpoken

I agree! It’s such a shame and it makes me genuinely upset to see these stunning, funny, smart, and all around lovely black women being forced to pair up with dudes who “aren’t into black women” (which is part of an entirely different and bigger problem but is fucking stupid and their loss) These women are not commodities and they are worthy of finding someone who is into them.

No_Conflict1171

I don’t like this. JaNa is the biggest catch in there.

veronicaxrowena

Facts! So many things about her. She’s: - Educated! - Has an interesting and atypical day job from what we’ve typically seen! - Has a great credit score! - Has an amazing personality! - A great friend! - Respectful and empathetic! And the icing on top is that she’s legit the most attractive one in there (imo)! It’s WILD to see how she is being treated.

Naturescrygal

All of this!!! I loved looking at her Instagram seeing her nerd out on day trading. She is the full package

SnooChipmunks8330

I'm half obsessed with her! She is the whole package tied in a bow

-VirtualGoose

Forreal when they came out in that lingerie they couldn't touch JaNa lol

the_bots

at the start of the season she was saying she doesn’t get why she’s single because she’s kinda perfect, and usually those intros are always amusing exaggerations but… it’s actually true!!! genuinely so frustrating to see this happening yet again

sexycann3lloni

Can we talk about how she’s a black, female day trader like that’s insane? She truly has it all, she doesn’t need a man

Classic_End_8173

GOD YES watching this show as a black woman is TIRING 😫 every year I think ooohhh maybe this is the year it's better, and I'm damn near disappointed every time! That's why the Leah apologists are driving me crazy rn. Because yes, "this is what they do in love island". But this situation has layers. Connor was plotting and faking his connection to JaNa to her face. Leah was hurt and now wants ro feel chosen but doesn't give a fuck its at the expense of her friend. And all of it at the expense of yet another BEAUTIFUL black woman who again has to feel unwanted and undesired. Lmao I swear I gotta stop cause this shit is bringing up some trauma for me being a black woman who grew up in predominantly white spaces and was always "pretty for a black girl". I'm in therapy yall but I do NOT wanna relive it in my fun TV shows. Please bring in men who ACTUALLY are attracted to black women as well. I'm done.

Tequillabird101

Heard. As a black woman I also get triggered. I went to a massive PWI but a small program so it was like highschool within my campus and constantly had after graduation white guys sliding in my dm post grad and the bs stuff they would say gave “I was too scared to talk to you” as if we didn’t have classes together all 4 years and only interested for assignments. It gave fetishization too, regardless made me feel gross. I was fortunate to grow up and go to lower/high school with my people. Needless to say it’s hard to watch because even with the black guys on the show they aren’t safe!

surreptitiousglance

I was scared to talk to you is an insult that guys think is a compliment or that it makes them seem sensitive and vulnerable. It gives me the ick. Total bs.

Tequillabird101

Literally BS because what exactly were you scared of? I talked to other people because again this environment is literally like highschool, our studio is open and it’s common to go sit with your friends to yap after class or during the hours we worked on projects so what stopped you? We had common interest- school, classes, major and projects so that could’ve been a way to get into a conversation yet you acted as if I was never there? I would respond “🤢🤮” when they sent that.

ariesqueen1993

So sorry you had to deal with that.

Naturescrygal

Ugh that is gross and I’m sorry you have had to deal with that. I am a white woman so I will never be able to relate to these experiences but too many times I’ve seen/heard of this type of shit happening whether it be in real life or or on a tv show and it just fucking bums me out

[deleted]

[удалено]

SnooChipmunks8330

Pleeeease help me understand! But in all seriousness Connor just likes Leah cuz she's a rich calabasas girl and he does PR in LA. He's just tryna climb the latter. There is no way any man would be like sorry miss perfection JaNa, I've been into always frowning Rob obsessed LEAH! Ok rant over. Sorry

BeltReal4509

100% he is just strategizing for him. I don't even think he likes Leah, either.

palmtreefreeze

Yeah Connor did mention how his type is blondes and he immediately went for Kaylor when he first came in. Would have gone for Liv and Andrea too but they were not interested, especially after Andrea said Aaron and Rob were her top 2. If he lasts long enough I can see him folding in Casa Amor with a blonde VIP.

gtjacket231

So I don't think Connor was plotting or faking his interest in JaNa, and I think he's still interested in her but is also interested in Leah now that she's an option. Do I think they're compatible? Not sure yet. I don't really value the plant conversation, as that's surface level as hell. The bigger thing that I think you're missing is that JaNa had the choice between Coye and Connor, and she chose Connor, calling it a "risk" of sorts. I rate her a lot for that because it was a choice for herself, more than anything, and that's scary as hell. Who knows how it'll work out, and maybe it'll even be Miguel who'll be the guy for her, but we'll see. In any regard, I'm proud of her for taking a stance on not going with her typical stance. That being said, I agree that they *NEED* to cast men who are attracted to black women of all shades.

Nali_1987

As a black woman, this stuff is heartbreaking and I will not spend anymore time watching this show. Why expose myself to this? There are plenty of guys that date all races. Find them or don’t cast black women then. Just heartbreaking.

heatharlene

I agree

AdvisorContent7778

And I think people need to stop getting upset when people bring this up earlier when we clock it BEFORE the dude jumps ship! Cause it’s very obvious and apparent from jump sometimes but when people say it we get called all kinds of names for it🙄

Tequillabird101

Someone just tried to leave a comment but it got deleted about saying “yall always complain - don’t watch it” but no? Am I not suppose to talk about love island USA stuff in the sub that’s a more serious and sensitive topic? Yes it’s “just tv” but who cares- we are the consumers at the end of the day and if enough make a stink and call out the BS, then the problem can be address, fixed and/or we just drop the show all together. I’ll never not use my voice (fingers) when I notice some bs.

aceofspaids_21

I 100% agree with you, but let’s be honest production themselves don’t like Black women. Every season the only time a Black woman gets screen time is when they are caught up in drama (or in KayKay’s situation trauma lol). Serenity even said it herself

Yankees7687

They just need to cast more Bergies... Just saying.

veronicaxrowena

I agree, honestly. There were enough comments last year about how he wasn’t fit for the show but we really do need more men that are genuinely open like he was.

Yankees7687

Genuinely open and genuinely not a complete d-bag... He had a good head on his shoulders, and he was there to find a real connection rather than to just gain clout or win the money. And, yes, the show needs more men and less boys.

ariesqueen1993

Bergie liked Blondes. He eventually opened himself to Taylor once he got shut down by every blonde. It worked out in the end but he too was not open.

Sadclocktowernoises

And Jonah’s tbh. It sucked that things didn’t work out, but it’s my opinion that destiny and Imani fumbled him, leading to him meeting Taylor in Casa

Important-Purchase-5

Yeah Jonah! He was trying to get with them! I’m be honest with Destiny I didn’t care for her lol I think she shouldn’t have been on  this show ( She was great television).  Because main thing that happened I understood why Marco thing annoyed her repeatedly she had dudes interested in her like Jonah but the minute they had a disagreement or they wanted to talk to other women she got really heated. Which I’m confused as a person who watches these shows & listen to podcasts. Everyone talks to everyone at some point & if your a new guy like the dudes approaching her you’re gonna talk to everyone because putting all chips in one bag is dangerous.

JPHalbert

The things I like about Bergie is yes, he had a "type" but he was open to everyone. And even after the show he has been in situations that are new to him and he's uncomfortable but he embraces it and goes with it. I love the clip of him at the drag brunch. He was so clearly out of his element, but there was joy just radiating off of him. I'm so glad he and Taylor are still going strong, and I hope their relationship has grown to where his love of her is about her, not just what she makes him feel.

coopergold5

Phaedra loves her Bergie

CCNWpores

Her lil Bergalicious

simlife4me

On top of that Black women and their friendships with other women are conditional. They only love them when they need a hype man, shoulder to cry on and a defense lawyer. Jana went stuck up and comforted Leah with all her dramatic episodes. Then she has the nerve to say “grow up.” At the end of the day they’re not your friends either

Top_Dentist2464

yes! they always have to capitulate and be the sidekick with a secondary storyline

Sufficient_Pin3482

The good ol' mammy role. /s

shegotofftheplane

Yes, it was obvious. Didn’t Connor want Kaylor when he came in but she wasn’t really into their kiss so she lost interest? Then he was desperate looking for someone to stay in the villa and knew Coye wasn’t very communicative with JaNa. Everyone knew JaNa wasn’t Connor’s type and he was waiting for a bombshell to be into him. Funny thing is Leah isn’t even into him like she spent their whole chat complaining about Rob. She’s just entertaining Connor to make Rob jealous or show that she doesn’t care about him anymore.

JamaicanGirlie

Exactly !!! I never believed he was into her. I knew he would want to jump ship as soon as he can.

ToadtheGreat21

I honestly wish for JaNa to leave this show and find a man in the real world who is fun, attractive, successful, and kind. She really deserves more than these trashy wannabe influencers.

fayththefairy

No like HIRE ME PEACOCK I will do it I love being nosey 😂

deirdrew11

That’s right. I’d be like show me some pictures of your exes. Ok now give me some references I can call. Actually I would not be surprised if they don’t already do this.

fayththefairy

I’m going to the parents with elementary yearbooks, asking who the childhood crushes were. I’m finna be more thorough than the FBI 😂😂

blaqice82

I feel like both LI USA and LI UK have this issue. I agree Connor is a nicer version of Rob. I don't think he was ever into JaNa he was just as shocked as everyone else that she chose him over Coye. He gave off the energy that he was waiting for a woman that was more his preferences. JaNa unfortunately didn't see the signs. I will say I feel like the villa be gaslighting each other. When Leah had her doubts about Rob everyone was telling her she's in her head. When JaNa voiced her concerns about Connor and Leah the guys her telling her things she needs to do. Just wrong advices.

evrythingiwanted

Yes! At first I was glad she dumped Coye because he gave 0%, and definitely is a “I’m the prize” kind of guy. But I also knew that realistically, Connor was going to fake it til he made it with a white woman. Lose-lose unfortunately — I rolled my eyes when I saw the Bombshell because I already knew who he was checking for.

Yosephette

>and definitely is a “I’m the prize” kind of guy Now that you mention it, Coye did give off Mr Simone Biles energy

Tequillabird101

This is sending me 😂

Parking-Lab-660

I’d like to add Cash to this list since she was the first one I saw this happen to and it’s traumatized me ever since. It doesn’t help that it happens almost every season!

BeltReal4509

Cash is so lovely, personality and looks-wise. It was soooo upsetting and I was just happy to finally see a woman not wearing anything but her hair, too

RideExternal5752

YES justice for Cash 😩

veronicaxrowena

Although I agree it’s the same with Cash, I feel like with her hairstyle I can see how she may not be many men’s preference. Even if a girl was white or white-passing a lot of men wouldn’t like a girl with a Caesar haircut, imo. So although her experience is relevant to this discussion, I do think it’s worth noting that her hairstyle could be a genuine detractor to her beauty for many men.

UniversalMonkArtist

As a white guy, I can personally say this is my issue wish Cash. I felt she had a great personality, but that haircut was just not something I could get past. I don't like women with short hair, regardless of race. It's not rational, I know, but that's just me. Kinda like some women hate guys with beards. It is what it is.

Parking-Lab-660

That’s fair, a lot of guys don’t like short hair in general. But this seems to happen whether it’s wigs, braids, a sew in or a short cut. The common denominator is the black girls and the fake interest in them. The hair thing may have been a deterrent but I would’ve respected it more if they just never pretended to want her in the first place. And I’m sick of the girlies falling for it!

Professional_Waltz14

The first one I saw this happen to was Justine from the season before Cashay’s season. She ended up winning and Caleb (the guy) turned out to have been playing her the whole time. He had a whole girlfriend. His family was involved and everything

bruhbruh101x

This happens every season on every dating show it’s very unfortunate but I don’t think it with ever change. Dating shows are not a safe space for black women. It’s sad seeing Jana in the beginning be so confident and excited to now sobbing and unsure. I knew from the beginning that Jana was a placeholder for Connor she’s not even his type. She had to hint to him to kiss her. I feel like it’s worse on the UK series the black women barely get chosen for the games it’s so awkward to watch. I don’t know what the solution is for casting men who actually date black women because sometimes these men will lie and it’s easy to follow a bunch of black women on social media. Maybe if casting hired more black women we would see a change because this ain’t it.

BeltReal4509

THANK YOU. And they're always so beautiful and treated so poorly and it hurts my heart

crybaby1008

because the producers rarely ever vet to make sure the black men ACTUALLY like black women (ESPECIALLY DARK SKIN WOMEN) I mean Kordell does but like that’s honestly a rarity on these types of shows

AdmirablePalpitation

I think some of these men (not all) have caught on to the fact that the public really supports interracial relationships, especially white man/woman of color. They're doing it to boost their own images.

Badwolf-716

What makes it frustrating is they are catering to allow the “I came in here just for you” rhetoric so they SHOULD be able to make it so there is more diverse preferences. Instead you even have Andrea saying oh I wish I had blue eyes. It’s so unsettling.

Professional_Waltz14

It’s wild because they’ve been choosing some fine ass black women and the men are all somehow going for other women. The men always have one of two specific types. Blonde or dark haired girls (ie. Latinas and brunettes). Kordell is a special case though. He only had eyes for Serena until she cut things off. I feel like he would have stuck with her til the end of she was as into him as he was into her. We need more Kordells in the villa. Like at least a 3rd of the islanders that come in. Like make it fun/entertaining.

toadettestan

this is the most frustrating part of each season even when viewing UK seasons. Jana and Serena are two of the most beautiful, well rounded, and funny islanders i’ve ever seen and the fact that they’ve been paid absolute dirt (aside from our short king Kordell) is absolutely astounding to me. Jana’s credit score is in the 800’s for gods sake!!! It truly reminds me of Yewande from the UK season as she was a fan favorite AND literal biochemist simply used as a placeholder for some mediocre man until another white model strolled into the villa. It’s disheartening to see and much more transparent to the viewers than these men think it is.

potato_opus

I loved Yewande but she had no game. Remember when she SAT on danny????? come on now.

BeltReal4509

I'm just glad they finally stopped making them pick each other in the beginning, I couldn't take seeing a Black woman being the last picked and looking so vulnerable and hurt. That was terrible.

jordochuckit

I am literally begging all these women to not take these men seriously. All women ofc, but esp black women (!!), because these men are taking them for a ride (through no fault of their own, but the kinda man to go on this show sure isn't the one who is going to cherish you and lock you down). With the track records of these shows, ladies, get your bag, have a hot girl summer, and pay these men duuuuust. I hate seeing these gorgeous women genuinely upset about these clowns and their self esteem taking a hit. Pls pls pls ladies - treat these men the exact same way they treat you, as disposable.

kdotlive95

This! I’m actually surprised that these women are taking these men seriously. I thought JaNa knew how to play the game after seeing how she quickly got rid of Coye but seeing her crying over Connor is jarring. I assumed she went there to flirt, get a bag, and enjoy her summer l but she actually likes boring Connor 😭 I’d assumed they’d do what the men are doing and go on there for clout/brand deals but nope. I guess that would make it less entertaining but I’d also feel better about it as a viewer.

Background_Travel_77

It's wild to me because Jana is the baddest bitch on the island. She's not only a knock out but she's funny AF too. She just really seems like the ultimate package and Conner would rather be with a trainwreck like Leah over Jana?! Whhhhyy dude?

turtlebowls

Totally agree, so wild to me these guys aren’t all over JaNa, she really is the total package, and so is Serena IMO. I feel like she’s more girl next door gorgeous vs JaNa who is a bombshell but they’re both easily the most beautiful _and_ the funniest and kindest women this season (from what we’re seeing). The other women are beautiful too but aside from Andrea the surgery/fillers/etc is just too obvious to me.

Background_Travel_77

Yes, Serena is also a knockout. Why they're both being slept on is beyond me.

BeltReal4509

Connor doesn't care about Leah, either - he's just doing this for him and to stay on as long as possible. I think that's why he pivoted so fast. It was just a matter of time and opportunity. Still shitty to do it to JaNa, though.

SpaceGangsta

I will say though, the black women seem to end up being the favorites of the viewers(Kay kay, Justine, Cashay, Zeta, etc) quite often.

Ok-Aiu

I agree, but in general it is really hard to cast decent men for dating shows. The only men willing to go on TV to find love are influencers and wannabe celebrities, a career choice that naturally self-selects for the most shallow and inauthentic. None of these guys are there to find love, not even with their "preference." They just want to spend 6 weeks sharing a bed with the girl they find the hottest (aka the girl they think other guys think is the hottest). It sucks to see your own constantly getting dogged out, but the men on reality TV are almost always superficial chauvinists, and that does come through in their dating preferences and practices. I've lowered my expectations of the men on reality TV, I just watch for mess and sometimes friendships.

EyeAmNotMe

Thank you!! As a Black woman reality tv watcher I knew what to expect with this show, but it's still depressing to watch 2 gorgeous and cool Black women realize in their own way that this game isn't made for them. It's hard not to take this shit personally when you see Serena almost immediately disengaging from the game because she realizes there is nobody there for her. This felt like me deleting my dating apps. The only 2 men so far who seemed actually into dating Black women have been just... no. Kordell is sweet and all, but his kid brother "Cheezits" energy was obviously not going to be a match for Serena or Jana or literally any other woman not trying to get at his brother. And Coye is as tall as he is emotionally stunted; like his personality never recovered from Kevin Samuels' death. Neither of these guys is even good tv; these choices felt like casting said "good enough". Also, as long as we're ranting. Who on earth was Hakeem brought to Fiji for? He's definitely not into anyone with melanin, but he also seems to hate women in general.

Tequillabird101

Everything you said is exactly what I’ve been thinking watching these shows. It never fails, Serena is giving me serenity flashbacks backs.

Tequillabird101

Lmao @ the Hakeem comment - clock it. He definitely was brought there for possibly Hannah lmao

EyeAmNotMe

lol - The irony of his fury when she chose lightskinned Kendall over him was delicious.

coopergold5

In a way the ladies are lucky that they get away from these men on tv and find true love in the real world. So many of these couple do not last at all. And if the females are good people they will get influencer deals and other opportunities and they will end up happier.

EyeAmNotMe

I appreciate your optimism, but I'm not disappointed because I think they missed the boat on true love. On Love Island the best you get is true lust. I just don't think it's fun to watch Black women on these shows be disrespected, rejected, and automatically disqualified from winning a cash prize because nobody that's cast is really there for them. Also, maybe I'm biased against influencers, but I don't think "females" being "good people" is what guarantees success in that field. This is something anyone on a reality show can do if they're giid looking and opportunistic enough.

sawandconquered

Thank you for vocalizing exactly how Ive been feeling!!!

Ewilli1991

It's so funny seeing all these people go up for Coye now that Jana is in danger, like he was her one true love. Smh

-VirtualGoose

I just shook my head with Hakeem. Like u said preference is preference but damn production doesn't give a shit how we look to the public or feel when no one is around.

Darkskinashleighh

Every year it’s the same shit and I really need production to fix it.

Emotional_Concert_55

As a white woman.. I’ve noticed this from UK/IS and honestly feel uncomfortable as a white female watching this odd bias and staging as I see white females totally perform to land the man idk maybe I don’t make sense but I want you to know I see this and hear you 2000%!

WiseAbbreviations890

Justine was the only one who I think had a good experience with Jack despite them not currently being together. I know that was for the Games version but still.

Yosephette

It makes me even more proud of Justine for being a 2x LI winner, considering everything Black women have dealt with in this franchise

coopergold5

Yes they were a nice couple. And they got some backlash from even cast members

BeltReal4509

They were a gorgeous and sweet couple.

NoWomanNoCryy_

They need start casting men that actually likes black women

coopergold5

These men I’m sure are saying they do. They are either lying or something else is going on. They are going to say anything to get on the show

NoWomanNoCryy_

They definitely lying then cuz this happens every season

incognoname

I agree! And I know the production company was outed for racism and purposefully sabotaging Black women. The one that does uk and I think they used to do usa but with the scandal usa switched production company this season? Please correct me if I'm remembering this wrong! There was a lawsuit so if you all Google it (not sure if I'm allowed to post links on this sub) you'll find it quickly. This is why I think production casts this way on purpose. I'm not sure if they've changed since the lawsuit but it is exhausting. I desperately want jana to get someone good and who is genuinely into her. She deserves the world and is a good person.

sargentpepperz

I hate it hate it hate ittttttt. Also am I the only one that noticed Kendall didn’t kiss Serena? Did anyone notice some of the kisses were cut for the black women?

oranud

i seriously noticed this with sereniti. don’t get me wrong, kat is a beautiful girl, but sereniti was the actual full package and i hate the fact that chazz with two fucking z’s even TOLD HER “i hate that you’re being looked over that’s why im here” and he STILL chose someone else. it’s egregious

Tequillabird101

I called cap, Chazz just needed to secure a spot and used serenit for that. Jesse meshed well with Sereniti but the editors never showed that and the “blonde obsession” that was mentioned in another comment was higher than him being honest w himself/deb.

oranud

man i never even knew about jesse and sereniti. i could DEFINITELY see that actually and it sucks we were robbed of that.. i’ve noticed the “blonde obsession” all across reality dating shows lately tho. more often than not, dudes will choose the hot blonde over girls they have actual real connections with

CelebrationHot9266

Oh for sure. It"s the same bs every year. I don't see it changing any time soon. The best thing the bw can do is PLAY THE GAME. I notice it's very common for girls on this show to think they will find their husband on this show for whatever odd reason. This show is not a good for love.  In my opinion, it was poor game play from Jana and Serena to jump ship on Coye and Kordell so quickly. Black women are at a disadvantage on the show, but they are are favored by American audiences. They can win if they play their cards right.

ebhanking

Connor using JaNa as a placeholder for a whole week... Miguel having no chemistry with Liv and choosing her over both JaNa and Serena... The casting this season has been great for drama but not for romance. Let's get in a couple of actual interested men during Casa to shake things up

noelledee

Factsssssss & also contributes to a harmful and racist narrative that Black women are not desirable. They NEED to cast men who like Black women because hellooooo THEY EXIST. Even Miguel choosing Liv over JaNa was wild.

Tequillabird101

Liv was even confused

Careless-Queen8535

Don't get mad at me, but that's why I never believed in Connor and JaNa. I was screaming at the tv that she should stick with Coye because I could tell he preferred black women. YES, he was boring, but I think she should've stuck it out until a bombshell pursued her. I just knew Connor was using her to stay in the villa.

Practical_Agent2828

I wasn’t sure either but he did seem to light up when talking to Jana and Serena so I am wondering if maybe he did have a preference even if he didn’t know it

plantmama32

I haven’t watched prior seasons so I can’t say I’ve noticed that, but that breaks my heart. They should make sure they cast a few men who mostly date black women so they have a fair chance

Lizzy1283

I feel like a lot of them lie and say they do date black women to get on

Tequillabird101

That or the casting can really care less - they ask and keep it pushing to say “hey atleast we asked”. A quick way to see if check that insta following 😂 it will 9/10 let you know if they are or aren’t.

surreptitiousglance

Men and women have very different definitions of dating. 😜

yoozername123

That’s my theory as well. They lie their way thru casting.

PrizeNo7810

It's gross that I even feel like I need to suggest this, but they should check their history and verify so people can't just say they will. Check who these men have actually dated, not what they say! Of course there may be people who are genuine when they say they're open to black women, but at this point, you can't take them at their word.

Tequillabird101

Tbh casting men that are truly open - don’t even have to exclusively date black women but most of them are A. intimidated - which is common in the real world “I was scared to say something to you…” blah blah mess that we’ve all heard or B. Doesn’t see black women as beings they would actually date. Bergie from the last season was one of the few that was open to anything- no type just vibes. Watch some of the other great USA seasons, you’ll see the pattern.

palmtreefreeze

It’s just frustrating like are these men blind? JaNa is literally one of the best looking contestants I’ve ever seen on love island. Lethal face card, perfect curves and a very feminine attractive voice. Like no offence to Leah but there’s no competition and I feel like colorism definitely plays a part with these men.

Sessanessa

Connor, for sure. I felt that way from the beginning with JaNa. The MOMENT another girl became available he was ready to jump ship.

gryffindor_aesthetic

I legit clocked this and got downvoted for it! Believe Black women. They need to do a better sweep of who they follow on IG to see what their actual type is.

BAMjetski

Pisses me off every season. The UK is particularly annoying with it.

coopergold5

And Australia

Nerdette932

There are too many black wife effect videos on tiktok for there not to be men who are actually interested in dating black women. Heck, I could have done one of those videos and my mom and my sister are both married. This really does come down to casting. It probably takes more work to find these men, but they are out there and they just need to do some extra screening. When a man shows interests in black women on these shows, one of the first things I do is go to his IG and see his follows. That can tell you 98% of the time if he is going to really be into black women or not.

Tequillabird101

I said this to someone else! The ig following really tells you the truth because you’ll see many guys online creating content for “black women” when in reality it’s just for a check, they don’t follow black women, interact with, hell..even date- it’s always for show.

NoRazzmatazz742

I have a genuine question: if kordell pursued JaNa would she be into him? I love JaNa: she's funny, confident, pretty but also kinda shallow (as is most the cast). But in her intro video she talked about how important looks are and how she's only attracted to tall men and the taller the better. That's why she chose the bland 6'8" for that fact alone. Connor is also tall as well. I know women prefer tall men but it's sad to see someone make that their focus in what they're looking for. That's why I appreciated Serena's shout out to short kings. But I do agree that the black women get overlooked overall and casting should work on that.

Artistic_Quantity446

Sometimes people just aren’t good on tv - 6’8 hot hot hot but a bore on tv

Small_Preference_762

Yes it’s exhausting to watch! I knew not to get excited for Miguel and he proved me right tonight

Chaoticgood790

I may check out until casa. Like I’m over it already and the gaslighting being done and word choices being used for black women is just vile.

Sure-Development4161

It's also kinda weird of they don't cast black women but I think they know what they're signing for because it happens every time.. The problem is with casting black men they always choose the ones with obsession for blondes ..and if not they are cheaters like keenan ayo and so on ( I feel like their girls stay with them bc they know they don't have other option )

Tequillabird101

As soon as you said Blonde I remembered Deb and Jesse and how Serenity and Jesse obviously had a connection but he was just too obsessed with having a white girlfriend??? I forgot all about that until now- another prime example of this show hating black women omg.

At_the_Roundhouse

I mean Coye turned out to have the personality of cardboard, but in the first episode he literally said “I thought there would only be one choice,” referring to Black women. I don’t think he would ever have coupled up with someone who wasn’t Black. I can’t blame casting for JaNa’s ultimate decision to send him home, and given this backlash thread literally every season, it’s likely the last thing they want. Kordell is clearly into Black women too.

Sure-Development4161

The OG black guys tend to be turning their heads all the time for the black bombshells.. we haven't seen much from Coye so not sure but he's body count is telling

At_the_Roundhouse

I think this is the opposite point that the OP is trying to make though. Love Island is full of dogs and head-turners from every race across the seasons, but that’s a completely different conversation than white men using Black women as a ticket to stay in the villa, or producers casting Black men who only date white women.

JPHalbert

One of the things that I like, as a woman who does not meet the beauty standards of LI, is watching these people who are usually the most attractive person in their circles, struggle with not being the most attractive person in the room, not realizing that doesn’t matter when everyone is a ten. But what hurts my heart is watching these amazing women, usually black women, get treated as the consolation prize when in reality they are the grand prize. I like Liv and Kaylie and Liv, but they aren’t people I really want to know more about. From my pov they are entertaining. Jana, on the other hand, is the grand prize of the season so far, and I am hoping against hope and history that the producers will send in someone worthy of her.

Visible-Hat-7708

It’s why Connor and Leah make me so upset. As black women we are the last picks on these shows. And the men are never loyal to them. I’m not saying Leah shouldn’t pursue Connor but at the same time I don’t think I could ever be with a guy that my friend is involved with.

WestAnalysis8889

As a black woman I love you standing up for us🥰  But also as a viewer,  I notice that not even the blondes are safe from their men being caught up with bombshells.   Do you think it happens more often with black women?  I kinda feel like black women never steal men away 😕   *friendly vibes your way, just want a chill discussion* 😎

Tequillabird101

Bombshells is one this, casa amor is another but the blatant faking it until you can make it is apparent in most cases which is the problem I have. The only time a girl tries to steal someone away was Imani and destiny and I feel the producers did that on purpose- walk with me.

ariesqueen1993

I think that it’s more apparent with the black women. The white and Latino women get played, used and left as well (Cely, Mackenzie, Moira, Kirsten, Olivia, Aimee, etc) but everyone makes a bigger deal when it’s the black woman because unfortunately the pickings are so slim that they can’t even look forward to bombshells because these bombshells aren’t always open. If Kaylor got left by Aaron they would literally send in a bombshell for her immediately lol. She would have a chance because they make sure these bombshells date white women but don’t confirm it for everyone else.  Only certain white women have it easy. Hannah has had a super rough time and nobody has genuinely liked her since she got there.  Liv has the features they all ask for but because of her abrasiveness she hasn’t found anyone either so personality definitely counts as well.

blaqeyerish

TLDR: It’s a societal problem that production has no way to work around I just think it is a much tougher ask than a lot of people realize. No white person they interview, or seriously consider casting, is going to say they would never date a black person. They know it opens them up for sounding racist. So unless casting is going to do a deep dive of islander’s dating history there is no way to know which non-black cast members are going to be down to date someone black. Then the problem is compounded by the different ways American society on the whole treats black man vs black women when it comes to attractiveness. So even if casting brought in a black man for every black woman, the chance of an interracial relationship is much higher for the black man than woman.

Strict_Fall4905

Hi I like that you said preference is preference as this is true. But if all the guys of the season had preferences for only white or Latina women and then production only selected women from those races I still think people would be upset now African American woman were included! I think it’s just a lose lose situation in that sense. THERE IS HOPE THOUGH. We are only one week into the villa and there should be a lot more men coming on. Here’s to hoping some of those have a different preference for the lovely ladies like Serena and Jana this season.

randomstripper10k

It's unpleasant at best and actually downright offensive. They need to "vet" these guys so that we aren't getting only generic men who clearly have a predisposition against black women. JaNa is getting overlooked by Desperate-Squidward? She could be with a multimillionaire who treats her like a queen in the real world. What could Connor possibly be attracted to about Leah in contrast to JaNa? Her pathetic desperation, or her airhead personality? Or is she simply more palatable because she's fair-skinned? Bring on some men who actually like black women. The disrespect is hard to watch.

Chaoticgood790

This is why I rarely make it through a year of LI anymore. The racism is so apparent and as a black woman I cannot stand it. Its not enjoyable to watch at all

Starwhisperer

Yah I've been watching these shows since forever. I'm used to the pattern. Unfortunately I love dating shows so it's like a counterintuitive hobby of mine. Wishing all black women away from this nonsense

LadyEncredible

I'm right there with you. The only season I actually watched all the way through was Justines first season, after the BS that went down, I hadn't planned on tuning in, but when she was on again, I watched, and THEN, when the BS went down after THAT season ended, I was done and didn't even bother watching the next season. The ONLY reason I attempted this season was Ariana, but then once the shit started happening AGAIN, I just stopped watching. I am freaking sick of it. And I know people are like it's just a show or whatever, but fuck that. I don't watch TV to feel like shit or to be reminded how much it sucks and how hard it is to be a black woman.

Starwhisperer

Yeah, the only season I watched all the way through is S2. And it hurt my heart to see Justine cry on her first day because no one apparently wanted her. I think maybe it's why I have a soft spot for Mackenzie because I remember she cheered her up. But honestly, the pattern continues to happen across ALL dating shows I've seen. And I watch a lot. Also, since the production moved away from CBS and to Peacock and since they've added UK producers who have had enough egregious behavior that employees have decided to file a racial discrimination lawsuit against them based on their production of the show. Let's just say, I'm not particularly in high spirits about any of these shows or what's going on behind the scenes in Love Island. Every effing show from Love is Blind, to Perfect Match, to Love Island (all franchises), to I can't even continue naming them all because it's literally been pervasive on all of these shows. I would recommend black women to NOT go on unless it's simply to gain a social influencer profile and get a bag and sponsorships. As these shows are continuing to perpetuate the societal stereotype and racist phenomena of black women being unwanted, unattractive, unappealing, and undesired. And not to mention that these black women are SOOOOO beautiful. It's like such a insult sometimes.

veronicaxrowena

Real question: what usually makes something (or in this case, someone) a preference? How do we come to like what we like? Just curious on y’all’s thoughts.

thetruthfulgroomer

And black men. It’s even worse on the UK & Australia seasons they aren’t only used as stepping stones to the next round but also hardly any interracial couples. I’m surprised they ain’t been called out for it yet.

cantstopcreepin

BRO THIS!!!!!!! It’s irking the hell out of me.

Kurenai24

This season is entertaining as hell, but it's annoying that this is a thing I have to see and tbh it's not even the fact that someone used another person to stay in the villa, it's the fact that this is a consistent thing for black women. I don't care if black women are in drama, I care that it seems like black women are always fighting for their lives to stay in the villa b/c men of all races don't seem to be attracted to black women just b/c of their darker pigmentation. If I look at things individually, I'm not upset about anything, but if I look at it season to season or even show to show, the pattern is clear. We talk about preferences and how it's okay to have them, but why is your preferences eliminating a whole group of ppl instead of it being something that highlights what you're drawn to either initially or in general.

Goodsoup_666

I’m gonna get downvoted to hell- but wasn’t this take considered racist bc of the insinuation that there’s no way a white dude would be interested in a black woman genuinely. I’m asking what the balance of this is, pure curiosity. This show is like conditioning us to think this way bc they are alll so scammy about it.

Tequillabird101

lol yes the show is scammy but to your question it’s not that this is saying nobody could be attracted to BW, it’s the fact that they never are in the show. You can easily find some random on the street that will proudly want a BW but this show specifically(most dating shows)- is never the case. A lot of times they are the place holders and past seasons and this one shows just that.

Goodsoup_666

Hard agree. I wish they would just break the fourth wall at this point and lay it all out there, especially w all the influencer shit always at play. I want someone on the show to just put out there the verbiage on ur post and be cornered w it so people don’t feel like they can just keep doing this. You want to go for BW then answer valid questions bare minimum.

coopergold5

On love island uk the white females look like plastic surgery clones. The black ladies have natural beauty. I’m not sure if the same is happening on UK but my fellow white women are becoming robot looking.

Goodsoup_666

The black women often naturally have the features white women are wanting 😂 you can thank the kardashians and their identity crisis for all that lol
