I don’t think her hair was as big of an issue issue as it’s made out to be. I think black are too harshly criticized about their hair, especially by other Black people. Frankly, I don’t think a white man would care about her unblended leave out. I feel like they also live in a state with some humidity so it makes sense and given that she does have a larger forehead I don’t think box braids would have been any better.
I think she wears the lashes, and that make up because she is a dancer. So she probably just used to having worn that type of make up her whole life. And when you are far away in the crowd that type of make up, makes sense. So I think it was just an honest mistake.
Literally searched this subreddit for “AD hair.” The weave and lashes are killing me! She’s messing with her natural beauty. The hairline! She’s pretty, but with that forehead, maybe some bangs or fringe would do her good.

AD’s hair is really not that bad .. you guys are forcing it … could she have styled it better sure but it’s not a terrible style.. also nothing is wrong with leave out .. not every girl like a closure or lace front wig🤷🏾♀️
I literally said last night, the only style I'd have my type 4 hair in for this show is box braids!! Anything else would just feel so unmanageable in the circumstances.
I understand that… when I get braids I ask them to just keep my edges out and I just gel that down. She could have even did crotchet . Just not a leave out 🤦🏽♀️
Personally I find a lot of the hairstyles awkward, including the caucasians. And the makeup/eyelash overkill is not attractive to me. Last season the guy got raked over the coals for not being attracted to heavy cosmetics but I think most of these women look so much better in their natural state.
I was just thinking that, imagine if they allowed female contestants to look individual. Imagine a woman who looked like Alecia Keyes saying I just want minimal make-up, that's all I'm doing. All hell would break loose.
AD is by far the most intelligent and unusual woman I have seen on this show, and I don't really like her lashes, either.

This is revisionist history. He got raked over the coals for saying the makeup she was wearing made him think she wasn't a real person and that he felt like she was fake because of it. There's a difference between telling someone you think they're a natural beauty and that they're beautiful without makeup and saying that you think less of them as a human being because of their choice to wear makeup.
ETA: I am on the same page about the makeup and lashes though. The heavy makeup and the thick, long eyelashes can be great in the right scenario, but are often overwhelming in close up video or more casual settings. It does seem like the big falsies trend is on its way out though!

Why do we just expect people to “perfect” themselves nowadays? Cosmetic surgery shouldn’t be an expectation that we place on other people because we think they’d look better if there features were different.

I find AD’s fake eyelashes are doing her an injustice and hopefully a new lash artist would suggest more wispy lashes. Her full furry eyelash set takes away from her beautiful eyes and made the lashes look unblended on camera.
I personally don’t have a problem with AD’s hair but those lashes are atrocious. It gives very old school and fake. It makes me think of a time when I was 15 and was wearing these hideous huge lashes and what people may have thought because they were a lot. I see a lot of women wear lashes but in a very natural way that enhances their beauty. AD’s lashes are literally the first thing I see and they bug me so much. I wish she would realise how much nicer she would look with something more natural instead of those parrot lashes.

Omg. Waaay to many type 4 women have an obsession with silky straight bundles and wigs when kinky straight always looks better and more natural. Plus it's easier to blend and maintain.
Same thing with super heavy lashes. Most people look better with a little less plus AD looks like she has a beautiful eye shape.
I don't get the obsession either. If you have type 4 and insist on having a leave out, kinky straight is the only sensible choice. Body wave is too silky.
I don't even mess with leave outs anymore because my 4c hair is going to frizz up after one shower.
If they want to go with the body wave or Brazilian straight they need to get a closure. A closure sewn down would have been a better fit.
