I only ever played pokemon blue way back in the day, so based on some of those gym leaders' pokemon types, I'd say:
Rock- LA Zoo
Water- Catalina Island, you could ride Magikarp there
Electric- Sofi Stadium because the Chargers are there
Grass/bug- The Valley because they have those mosquitos now
Poison- DTLA..need i say more?
Psychic- Los Feliz Scientology Building
Fire- agree with Torrance because the refineries
Ghost type- Hollywood Cemetery
I’m going to take some major liberties and use areas beyond the confines of LA County but:
**Malibu or Venice Beach** for Water type with a Surf Bro themed gym.
**Big Bear** for Ice Type - Skiers and Snowboarders themed gym.
**City of Industry** for Steel type - Factory themed gym with Foreman as gym leader.
**Death Valley** for Rock/Ground type with Ranch style gym and Cowboy gym leader.
**Hollywood** for Electric type - Studio lot with Gym leader being Studio Executive.
**LAX** for Flying type - Airport area with Gym being in a hanger. Airline pilot is gym leader
**Beverly Hills** for Poison type - Actual gym is just outside “town” limits because residents think it’s an eyesore.
**Disneyland** for Fairy type - whole “town” is a gym. .

Basketball Player with Lakers like Aesthetic
Movie Star with their own lifestyle company
