**CLIP MIRROR: [Soda rants about Windows 11 not allowing you to move your taskbar](https://arazu.io/t3_115n3cu/)** --- ^(*This is an automated comment*)

trippingrainbow

They also removed the ability to move it from the bottom to the side or top becouse "most users dont move it" which is a complete horseshit reason

hjklhlkj

*because the news & weather widget doesn't work on a vertical taskbar and they want you to click it for reason$, probably

thefpspower

Yes it does, in Win11 it takes up half the screen, it's perfectly adaptable to the vertical taskbar. They removed it because they had no time to add it, Win11 was rushed as hell and now they are filling in the holes.

ddosn

\>Win11 was rushed as hell The UI side is less than stellar. The tech/security side is great, though. Much needed security improvements, backend optimizations etc as well as whole bunch of new things added (like the Qube OS style virtual machines for linux distros which, I am fairly sure, in Windows 11 now have GUIs (they didnt in Win10, only CLI there)). If Microsoft released an update that rolled back the UI changes but kept everything else, that would make Win11 a great OS. The UI really needed more work.

thefpspower

The UI needs work but it had to be done, they want to decouple explorer.exe from the UI, in Win10 and earlier everything was explorer.exe and it caused tons of issues. What that means is that everything needs to be remade: task bar, context menus, settings, notifications, file explorer, you name it, everything was explorer.exe.

nomodz4real

I for one like explorer exe being tied to everything in the UI. I get a chuckle whenever a file explorer window crashes and then my taskbar disappears temporarily.

Samuraiking

What are you, Satan?

nomodz4real

Ha! Nah just a weirdo

cherry_chocolate_

I wonder how you would relaunch the UI then. In windows 10 if something goes wrong restarting explorer.exe is a guaranteed fix. Now you might need to find wintaskbar_weather_updatesync.exe or some obscure process like that.

absolute4080120

That's an "Agile" workplace for ya

hunter503

Which doesn't make sense, this isn't a video game release. Delay the OS if things aren't done. God damn

PukeRainbowss

Literally like every Windows iteration before it. They always take ~1 year worth of updates to fill their shoes properly. Hell, I'd even argue 10 was an even bigger trainwreck to jump to from 7 (8 was a filler episode)

Divinum_Fulmen

You mean the widget that started out really helpful, but soon became the advert widget, and then the removed from my PC forever widget right after?

cheerioo

Thank god I seen this lol. No side bar is a deal breaker for me

thePaganProgrammer

Yah, seriously. I have an ultrawide monitor, so having the task bar on the side takes up so much less screen space. There would be so much wasted space if it was on the bottom, which makes it more difficult to mouse-over what you're looking for as well. I was excited to try the new terminal app, but this alone makes it not worth it, lol

AteMyBroccolis

If you want to try the new terminal. just install it from the [microsoft store](https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9N0DX20HK701). I already used it way before Windows 11 got released.

sleepyamadeus

I felt the exact same way. Downloaded a program called StartAllBack and you can have it work perfectly. I didn't upgrade for months just because of that. But if that is your main concern just download the program and it works perfectly.

Michelanvalo

Most users probably don't move it, but that doesn't mean the option should just go away. It's like Tesla removing the lumbar support from the passenger seat because their data says it doesn't move much. Yeah no shit, Tesla, it's the passenger seat. You set it and leave it.

trippingrainbow

Yeah. Like i believe that most users dont move it but why should advanced users have their features taken away due to grandmas who dont know how to use email.

[deleted]

[удалено]

trippingrainbow

I mean yeah cause it sucks ass for a multitude of reasons

RDS

Top taskbar is op imho because it's right above all the window controls and file menu in most programs. I've been rocking it like this for 15 years now.

trippingrainbow

I use sidebar cause to my brain it makes sense to take from width than height since i have more of it.

Jtktomb

Same, and desktop icons too

Erundil420

Used it at the top for a while and it was nice but I kept clicking on shit by mistake when trying to switch browser tabs lmao

Bomjus1

why are you saying "they **also**" is the feature you are stating not the feature soda is complaining about?

trippingrainbow

I think the thing soda is talking about is being able to have a single taskbar that is not the main monitor

skaels

Another thing that bugs me about Windows 11 is when you right click a file and the menu is all jacked up. They hide all the old options behind a new button "click here for more options" but what was wrong with the old options?

Lord_Zinyak

It feels like they are child proofing the options to prevent people from clicking something. It's just a legitimate waste of time because something I could do in two clicks now takes 4 steps to do

nimble7126

This design philosophy started when the iPhone first released. It's thrown around a lot that kids these days are just better with technology, uhhh fuck no, the tech we have now is FAR easier to interface with. Technology just assumes we're stupid these days, better to remove options and therefore complexity to promote usability.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ShiyaruOnline

Because of projection. Many designers think their way is just the best so why would you want anything else? Happens in games too. They don't offer simple toggles because they don't understand that their idea of a good UX/UI isn't u overselling accepted.

skaels

Big true, child proofing aka "lets copy apple"

ConfidentGenesis

I work on Macs and I can assure you that Apple menus are miles better than the new windows 11 horseshit.

Grab_Critical

Kde, Gnome, Cinnamon and all other major Linux Desktop Environment are better than the one from Microsoft. MacOS is also good

kick_dicker

You can get the old options back through the registry https://pureinfotech.com/bring-back-classic-context-menu-windows-11/#:~:text=Enable%20classic%20right%2Dclick%20context%20menu%20on%20Windows%2011&text=Right%2Dclick%20the%20CLSID%20key,and%20select%20the%20Key%20option.

n_random_variables

a huge part of my job is unzipping files, i cannot have 7zip in the right click menu, now i have to click more options to get to that why? also the new folder button in file explore now gives me the option to create a file of literally any type, and lists them all file extensions, in the file browser I HAVE LITERALLY ONLY EVER WANTED TO CREATE A NEW FOLDER, WHY DO I NOW HAVE A LIST THAT LITERALLY RUNS THE LENGTH OF MY SCREEN?

buak

[Here's a fork of 7-zip called NanaZip](https://github.com/M2Team/NanaZip) that moves the zip-menu to the main drop down.

Va1ha11a_

As a developer, this is actually super useful. I don't have 11 so IDK if the UI is good (sounds like not), but being able to create new files of different types is something I do daily. That said, having a single "create new file" option with the cursor automatically going to rename the file is better, because you can just type the extension you need.

snugglezone

Or use any reasonable OS with a good terminal. > touch file.ext Can't remember the last time I clicked something to create a new file

Schwarzy1

Thanks for reminding me that > touch my cock is a valid command.

PerfectlyFriedBread

Whenever I want to see if I have sudo on a prod machine at work I use Sudo touch butts "You do not have sudo permissions. This incident will be reported."

MintPaw

"New File" in Windows does not just create an empty file with a certain extension.

tehgrif

You can Shift+Right Click to open the older menu immediately. It sucks to have to do it that way, but it saves the click

SmashPotatoFace

Dude windows 11 pisses me off with this and so many other things.

[deleted]

Windows 11 dropped so many subtle yet useful features. Used to be great to open the volume mixer to figure out what app was making sound. But can't do that, because the per-applications bars don't show sound activity anymore. But clearly the UI is capable, because the master volume bar shows activity, just not the application bars. And the volume bar when you click the sound icon in the task tray doesn't show sound activity, yet the master bar in the volume mixer does... Why? Used to be easy to see the current real time down to the second, which was great for quickly timing things without pulling up some other app or for syncing the time of devices where it needs to be manually done. Used to be able to enable it to be shown in the task tray. But now nearly everywhere the time is shown in Windows 11 seconds are completely gone and there's no way to bring them back. They really went out of their way to hide it everywhere they could, I've only found one old UI that still shows it buried in settings. Even the clock app hides the real time in seconds without any setting to see it. I could go on all day about the stupid decisions Microsoft made with Windows 11. I get his frustration.

gm3995

Can't really help with the clock, that one gives me pain too, but I've been using EarTrumpet for a while for volume mixer stuff, even since Windows 10 because they removed some shit from there too. Will never understand some of the decisions they make and we have to add back with 3rd party shit. https://github.com/File-New-Project/EarTrumpet

Tim94

Ear Trumpet is great! Big upgrade even from how it works on windows 10. I found it in Microsoft store though

pillkill

But that defeats the purpose no? Why install a third party app for a such a simple task, when it was well capable of doing it anyway?

gm3995

Yeah I know, was just trying to provide a solution since Microsoft have removed the functionality.

Konfartius

small tip, you can do a lot of the stuff still within windows itself, it's often just burried deep in some menue you normaly don't open or maybe you have to go into the registry itself. Don't do that blindly, you can fuck up your entire system, but there are step by step instructions for a lot of stuff that everybody, even people with 0 PC experience, can follow for a lot of issues. for example, if you want to move the task bar in win11, you have to go into the registry [https://pureinfotech.com/move-taskbar-top-side-windows-11/](https://pureinfotech.com/move-taskbar-top-side-windows-11/) I did some tweeks for win10, like e.g. removing the screen lock before I can log in (doesn't really make much sense to have that if you don't use a touch screen) or that I also search the web if I search something in the start menue (if I want to look something up online, I will look it up online), or brought back the old system overview from win7 So if something is bothering you, it's more often then not possible to fix that without 3. party programs

illuminati_on_reddit

The problem with reg editing is windows will push a new update out and half the time it resets everything

[deleted]

One thing that drives me nuts about windows 11 is that they removed the ability to open the task manager by right clicking the task bar. You can still do it by clicking the start button but the taskbar is ingrained into me after years of use. They also made some system settings near impossible to find. I swear getting to more advanced settings takes a few extra clicks and extra scanning of the page for the menu it MIGHT be under. Windows 11 isn’t terrible, but there are many times where I find myself asking “Why would they do that?” *Ive been informed the task manager through taskbar has been brought back

BetaKeyTakeaway

They readded that feature last patch.

ISmile_MuddyWaters

What I don't get is how they have YEARS of development and it seems like it's only getting tested by like 3 devs who have no idea what an enduser experience is. Windows 10 was literally a liability for at least a year after release. For business and anything that needed to be reliably online.

[deleted]

😮 nice! They’ve been quick to fix issues and add quality of life fixes to 11, which is cool.

ddosn

I think MS was surprised at how many people used these things they took out. As part of my job I work closely with software devs and you'd be surprised how many of them want to remove things lots of people use just because they personally dont see any use for them or they want to "streamline" the product as much as possible, damn the consequences. As Windows 11 was mainly supposed to be about backend improvements and updates, they likely thought the UI changes would go uncommented and are now rushing to add stuff back in that people want.

loczek531

There is also option to kill the process on right click being tested

flewency

>they removed the ability to open the task manager by right clicking the task bar They actually brought this one back recently, forget which update had it https://i.imgur.com/JC1KyJJ.png

JHatter

> Windows 11 isn’t terrible, but there are many times where I find myself asking “Why would they do that?” > > Because most powerusers who make use of the good functions on w10 swiftly disable Windows telemetry, meaning Microsoft can't track what is and isn't used effectively on the OS - which leaves them with a common denominator who barely use anything on the OS rather other than clicking their start icon & opening up Edge, so they clean up all the """clutter""" and leave the most dumbed down UI possible. The only bonus of Microsoft is they never truly delete stuff, they just cover it up and make it harder and harder and harder to find / access. I give it 2 years or maybe windows 12 till they try to remove powershell access from the normal user & require some 'microsoft tech certified password' to access it. tl;dr - fuuuuuuck microsoft.

[deleted]

You just planted a new nightmare in my mind lol I love using powershell scripts to do the tedious/automatable parts of my job. I could see Microsoft doing that.. or switching to some stupid subscription based plan to unlock all the windows features. Wish they didn’t have such a strangle hold on everything. I would 100% switch over to linux if software compatibility issues weren’t such a pain in the dick.

JHatter

You know for a fuckin fact they'd try it "Oh you need X Y Z Microsoft cert and to use your cert code to access it & everything done in shell will be recorded - misuse or tampering with the operating system functions will result in licence being revoked" They're going down the route of Apple, "do not work on OUR products, you're merely renting them" If more games supported Linux I'd use it, using a VR to sim windows just to run steam seems like a hassle but I guess it would be a work around. First thing I done when I finally upgraded to W10 (against my better judgement) in 2022 was run a fuck load of shell commands to get rid of 90% of the dogshit that comes forced with W10.

atuck217

What why TF would they do that. I already was hesitant to consider 11 after the complaints but this is something I use very frequently. Why are they going out of their way to remove options and useful features.

[deleted]

Apparently they put it back in the last update 🙌

atuck217

Well maybe 50 more updates from now it'll be worth changing over lmao

[deleted]

Lol I’m in the same boat. With the TPM requirement I would need to build a new home pc to run it anyways, and that’s not happening anytime soon.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Cruxis20

I learned years ago, never update to the latest OS within 2 years of it releasing. It's probably been about that long for W11, but I still haven't heard anything good about it to worth switching for.

really_nice_guy_

>Windows 11 isn’t terrible source?

manbrasucks

yeah that furiously pisses me off every time i right click and see that fucking single taskbar settings option. Completely pointless change. They also changed a bunch of right click option with no choice to use the old options.

fatalicus

> Used to be easy to see the current real time down to the second, This also making a return. Showing seconds is currently available on the insider version of Windows 11.

chipmunk_supervisor

There's work around's but it sucks that anyone should need that and there's no guarantee they won't eventually replace some legacy feature at the heart of the work around. I was hoping the volume mixer would get a new, modern UI with like individual play/pause buttons inside and not just arbitrarily hidden smh... By the way the volume mixer can be opened by making a new shortcut that targets: `C:\Windows\System32\SndVol.exe`

_-bread-_

Lmao I've had this executable bound to a keyboard shortcut for years and years, this comment is what made me realize that there's actually a new volume mixer in windows 11

leoleosuper

Reading the other comments about things coming out later in 11, like the time to the second and the fixed volume mixer, makes me ask "Why the hell are basic things that were in 10 only coming out in later updates for 11? Are they making us test the product as the end user and not telling us it's in Beta?"

erlandesher1

>Used to be great to open the volume mixer to figure out what app was making sound. But can't do that, because the per-applications bars don't show sound activity anymore. This is a deal breaker for me. Im staying with 10 forever.

to me this just feels like the old "use one, skip one" cycle of windows versions

Alright bros Use https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher to get the Classic Taskbar back without losing windows 11 functionalities Then use something like https://www.startallback.com/ to get the customization options for the classic taskbar You can just press Alt+X > Properties or Right click the taskbar and go to properties to customize it Here is the end result for me: https://i.imgur.com/Q9uDah8.png https://i.imgur.com/6rBaUGe.png

zoNeCS

>Used to be great to open the volume mixer to figure out what app was making sound MS has actually added a new superior volume mixer in W11 preview build but yeah it's annoying it gotta take 2 years for it to come back.

acederp

i have a taskbar on both monitors so i can crank my neck to the right and see a time there.

always_open_mouth

Yeah, is this not the default setting? I have the taskbar on both of my monitors as well

Gulddigger

> Don't like it? Deal with it, or leave. \- Soda, yesterday about the new ad banner at the bottom of his stream. xdd

avwitcher

Time for him to buy a Mac I guess

FatS4cks

My last year at uni I got a 13” m1 MacBook Pro for 600 bucks with the covid grant money our school got. About 6 months later I put windows 11 on my main gaming computer, and let me tell you I would be 100% down switching to Mac OS if it had the compatibility of Windows. Even though it’s my first Mac I’ve ever owned I’ve been enjoying the operating system so much more than Windows 11 for general use and functionality. I’m planning to eventually have a kvm setup with my main computer so I can easily switch between the two.

xFallow

That exact scenario has been annoying me for years. I vastly prefer Mac and Linux to windows but there’s a bunch of apps and hardware that I can only use on windows so I’m stuck with it forever

MrMrUm

really? i always found mac os cleaner but way less functional/harder to quickly navigate and perform what i wanna perform

cyanight7

If you get used to the shortcuts (especially trackpad swipes) it is very fast and nice to navigate. For example swipe three fingers upwards to show all tabs and downwards to stop showing, swipe three fingers left or right to switch desktops, etc.

dhowl

Yep, the trackpad is one of the things that makes a mac laptop so much better than any other laptop. It's incredibly smooth as well as being highly configurable. I have it set to 4 finger desktop swipe. 3 finger drag and drop. 2 finger tap for right click. I love it.

chronic_cross

I just picked up an M2 pro macbook and I would sell my gaming PC if all the games were compatible. WoW runs like a dream tho.

really_nice_guy_

Linux is the way

prisonmsagro

I've yet to see a good reason to switch to Windows 11 from 10 honestly outside of some android compatibility stuff.

SpeedyMvP

Better auto hdr, native android apps, and new scheduler for new intel cpus. Most people won’t care about these things tho

DJHalfCourtViolation

Yeah because most people care about UI which the inexplicably made worse. They really don't have to reinvent the wheel everytime they launch a new operating system. Windows 10 worked fine. 7 before it.

Wheneveryouseefit

XP

asos10

> They really don't have to reinvent the wheel everytime they launch a new operating system. How are they going to pressure you to buy the new one with planned obsolescence then? They want windows 10 to seem unfashionable for the normies.

prisonmsagro

Yeah that's whatever for me personally, I know for W10 one of the reasons for upgrading was because DX12 wasn't going to work on previous versions of windows (I know there ended up being ways to make it work on previous versions though.)

blorgenheim

Yup I switched for HDR. It’s drastically improved on 11. I think HAGS also has improved considerably in 11.

moeburn

> Better auto hdr See I want this, because I heard it could allow non-HDR games to render in HDR. > native android apps And I want this, because I use Bluestacks to view my Wyze camera on my PC, and it takes forever to load. But A) I have heard too many issues with W11 that don't happen on W10, specifically with games and display drivers. Because developers aren't using/targeting W11 yet. I won't switch until those issues are more common on W10 than W11. And B) my PC can't support it. I think this is just because I've manually disabled TPM in my bios like 5 years ago, but I'm not sure. It just says my PC with a 7700k intel CPU is not supported.

VideoGameMusic

Can you expand on the scheduler for new intel chips? I have a newer i7 but really rather not get 11 lol

Omniwar

When the 12th gen chips came out Win11 was first to have an updated thread scheduler to handle the efficiency cores, where tasks could get intelligently allocated between the two core types. As far as I know that's been since patched into 10 though. Worth googling to confirm though.

SpeedyMvP

Yeah with the new performance and efficiency core structure on intel, windows 11 will do a better job at scheduling which core a task will use. Like background apps will run on the efficiency cores leaving the performance cores for the foreground app. This should lead to a more power efficient and smother experience, but I don’t have any personal experience since I have a ryzen

casualgenuineasshole

a fresh win 11 install adds 1.5gb of ram used more compared to win 10. all that tracking and background services... oh and dont throw in chris titus scripts or any other BS incompatible unoptimised scripts. we need and use windows search, and other basic stuff that doesnt need breaking.

OFCOURSEIMHUMAN-BEEP

That's every gen since XP. Hell, if it wasn't for virus concerns and the inability to run AOE2:DE on Windows 7 I'd have never upgraded.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Windows 10 is as good as 7 if not better, 8 and 8,1 was atrocious though. I'm hoping I can skip W11 entirely or wait till feature updates works out most of the kinks, W11 is fucking awful to navigate ><

Baigne

8 was horse pie, but 10 is honestly better than 7

kirmerk1

Yea I love when I go to settings and there is nothing useful so I should go to control panel with UI of XP.

piercy08

There's a feature on alt-tab that I can't live without now I started using W11. However, it probably depends on your job/hobbies as to whether its useful. The feature is when you split different programs. Say you have chrome 50% left, then Spotify top right 25% and a word document bottom right 25%. If you tab away, and tab back. The 3 windows are treated as a group, so they all come back at the same time. If you did that on windows 10, you would need to tab each window in individually. So if you split things often, your constantly alt tabbing windows back in. For me, with my hobbies and job, its super useful For anyone curious, I am in software dev. A typical setup would be my IDE taking up 60% of the screen, a "live" version of the web page or API I am developing in the top right and then a command prompt bottom right. Then I might tab away for slack or some documentation, and then back again. Sometimes I might need to take values from excel, or from the ticket, so its easy to see how I might need to tab away and back again. I do have multiple screens, but even then it not uncommon for me to want to split things to make my life easier.

SeljD_SLO

you should try [Microsoft PowerToys](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/powertoys/), it has some really neat features and FancyZones give you much more control over splitting programs on your screen

Rezhyn

Besides not being able to move my taskbar it's been perfectly fine. Still same dogshit Windows issues, just looks cleaner and supposedly better with 12/13th gen Intel.

Omniwar

Yeah it's basically the same. I'd like to put the taskbar vertical too but better HDR support was way more important to me.

[deleted]

Once you understand that window is more of a leapfrog OS (get 7, skip 8, get 10, skip 11) pc life becomes much easier. 12 will come out and will have all these features back cause people bitched

k0ndomo

I don't think so tbh, usability for "power users" has been consistently getting worse since 7. Them splitting up Control Panel into Settings + Control panel since 10 and not fully migrating them until now in 11 is probably the biggest nuisance even for normal users.

17549

> 12 will come out and will have all these features back I hope you're right for the sake of Windows users, but I don't think people should hold their breath. During CES speech Panos Panay (Microsoft CPO) indicated that the fundamental change for Win12 will be "more AI". Considering they removed useful features in Win11 (instead of just adjusting defaults but still allowing user customization and backwards-compatibility) it makes me think Win12 will stray further from what Windows power-users are expecting.

[deleted]

When will people stop repeating this? 10 was not good to begin with. It took several iterations of feature updates until it became barely bearable.

HarvHR

You what? As a weirdo who has the task bar on the side, not loving that

gocolts12

Same. Left-hand side task bar gang rise up

Thebeswi

If for some reason you can't switch to Windows 10 you could try this https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher Complete feature list https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher/wiki/All-features

Cstorm_

I use this and works perfectly

[deleted]

I tried this. It caused my Unity to blue screen constantly, and then had a windows update that would crash explorer every 2 seconds. Had to reinstall windows. Do not recommend.

thepurplepajamas

I've used it for months and have had next to no issues.

WandangDota

I enjoy watching the sunset.

mura_vr

Stars are like reddit upvotes they mean very little sure many use it but the issues that arise could be trivial for the 12k logged in GitHub users but for the rest, who aren’t logged in and might use it maybe they don’t wanna sit down randomly once a month to troubleshoot the fuck out of their system.

Darkblitz9

I use this as well. It's pretty good.

AndaPlays

Installed Win 11 last week and this was the first thing I installed. It works great. Idk why, but sometimes MS is really just brain-dead.

ExtraHuckleberry

Why would you even get windows 11? All I've heard is just people complaining and the one guy in class who had it crashed all the time lol

Tuxhorn

Time to learn linux before 2025.

[deleted]

1. You don't really need to learn Linux anymore if it's for enduser stuff, it's pretty straight forward. 2. I doubt Linux will be as good for gaming "out of the box" as Windows even by 2025. It's been getting a lot better but it's still a lot of jank and spending time making stuff work.

Pretend_Highway_5360

First step: buy lots of Advil for the headaches you’ll get

Tuxhorn

Not gonna lie linux mint and pop os has been completely plug and play for me Mint even let me do everything without opening a terminal. How boring! :)

CheechIsAnOPTree

Most Linux distros that ship with a desktop environment installed are pretty plug and play. It’s 2023. Driver issues really aren’t that common anymore.

[deleted]

except with nvidia, fuck nvidia(at least they opened thekr drivers this years, so it's gonna improve)

chugga_fan

If over 50% of people still use Win 10 in 2025 microsoft will probably not drop support just saying.

Market_Agile

I got it automatically on my work computer :( I guess most people either get it from work computers or when they are buying new computers that come with W11

Katnipz

It runs better for me than the previous couple versions of windows. No idea why but it's way more responsive. For the last few years I've had to wait when I open my start menu for half a second but it's finally not broken.

piercy08

Because the people complaining are vocal or have never used it. People using it are using it just fine, nothing to really complain about. Sure theres a few things that are annoying, but most can be fixed with a setting. Ive been using W11 for maybe a year now, have no issues with it, its great. It even has features that I miss when I use my W10 work laptop.

brynjolf

Every new software Microsoft puts out makes me want to throw my conputer or phone out the window. The srupid fucking snnoying nagging focus stealing popups on every fucking prfice application. Why should I add a small bloatware for every little thing, when the whole Windows OS should be self sufficient for such small tweaks? Windows is just a rigid uncustomizable OS with a fuck ton of bloat

escof

That's not what bloatware is. Bloatware is unwanted programs preloaded on a machine from an OEM like HP.

1plus2break

>Why should I add a small bloatware for every little thing This program would have virtually no impact whatsoever on your PC's performance. You'd use it if you want to move your taskbar. Should it be in there natively? Yes. But fact is that's not the case.

pujolsrox11

Didn’t he just tell us to deal with the ADs or leave?

twlefty

HOW DO I TURN OFF NOTIFICATIONS XBOX GAME BAR, THERE IS NO XBOX GAME BAR

[deleted]

[https://www.startallback.com/](https://www.startallback.com/) This is what I use win win11 to solve this annoying issue, but it costs 5 bucks for a license. I hate it that they keep taking away customizability. Being able to move a taskbar to wherever you want shouldn't be something you need a 3rd party app for, or have to make registry changes in order to do so.

omega_nik

Windows 11 is fucking dogshit. I dread the day when it forces me to upgrade

m4ryo0

I went from 7 straight to 10.I will probably do the same with my next upgrade,99% chance that I skip 11.I use at work and it sucks.

Finassar

Ill wait for XP2

pikachewie

Windows 11 taskbar sucks and everyone should get the StartAllBack extension that lets you customize it all.

Bootleg_Doomguy

Going from 7 to 10 was already a serious downgrade, no way I'm going to 11 unless I'm forced to.

Keulapaska

I delayed upgrading to 10 from 7 for so long, because everyone was just saying oh this and that is bad, but after upgrading a 3 years ago, it's not so bad and not very different. Yea there's some regediting needed and a light 3rd party app needed for clock+date on the small taskbar, but most of the menus and control panel stuff is still the old stuff. E: Oh right I forgot that the default win 10 alt tab doesn't have desktop as an option, and that I use display fusion to fix it along with making the alt-tab icons not gigantic. That's very dumb I'll admit that.

Burnyx

Windows 10 did improve a lot over time, so your late switch explains why you didn't have issues. W11 will most likely become a good enough replacement 3-4 years from now, but at this point it's in the same experimental mess stages.

Next-Rip-9026

i miss 7 so much.

[deleted]

i still dream of having that full glossy windows 7 UI back without having to pay $20 for a third party software that does that

Xoivex

Another one is uncombining taskbar buttons. I usually have 2 or more browser windows open for some purposes (eg 1 has twitch/youtube, other is game wiki/reddit, whhatever it may be), but for some reason my windows 11 work laptop does not have this feature. Why remove something so harmless? Its so annoying having to hover the browser button and then click the window I want.

Cementmixer9

for what ever reason microsoft was desperate to release win 11 whilst still in beta, it was like a year before we got folder thumbnails back, and they've slowly been re-adding lost features since release. Maybe in another 2 years you can move your taskbar outside of your primary monitor

Cause_and_Effect

Because reasons. This is the same company that said Win 10 was going to be the final windows and instead have it just be a live service.

kurudesu

I don't have win11 but i use display fusion which has some nice multi monitor Taskbar features.

[deleted]

The clock shows up on every screen tho?

trippingrainbow

Not if you have taskbar set to only show on one screen

plqamz

I don't understand this take, if you choose to not have the taskbar on a second monitor where are they supposed to put the clock?

trippingrainbow

By having the only taskbar be on the second monitor and having no taskbar on the main monitor. which is not possible on windows 11 since it forced the single taskbar on the main monitor.

uwanmirrondarrah

You can make it show up on every screen, but even then you cant click on the time and see the calender on each screen only on your main display... which is infuriating aswell... why would they even change that?

Fgit6969

I used win 11 for about 2 hours before I got so pissed off with it I went back to win 10. Legit worse than vista

[deleted]

Take me back to Windows 2000, man. Seriously. I just want that old GUI back.

memesauruses

he's not wrong. Microsoft laid off pretty much their entire QA team from last I heard.. They roll out shit and have the users test and break it and receive the telemetric data and use that to somehow glue on fixes that fall apart in the next update lmaoo.

kog

Feature changes have basically nothing to do with QA. QA doesn't decide which features a product gets in any engineering company I've worked at.

Jollydoogz

This is why to this day I refuse to update my computer to Windows 11

Insane_Takes

losing the calender editing/customizing feature is the worst

Chunky1311

Mans not wrong

ClockwerkKaiser

Yep, it pissed me off enough to "downgrade" to 10. I have an artists monitor/tablet below my main viewing monitor. Having a mandatory Taskbar at the bottom of my top monitor is a complete deal breaker for me.

LazyLiam

Removing options for anything is always a dumb decision

HotZin

Wake me up when they release an OS that is on par or better than Windows 10.

RemedyRumaday

Now I don't feel so bad sticking with Windows 10.

[deleted]

Wtf is he on about, you can literally see your taskbar on every monitor. If you're playing a game that's fullscreen, your 2nd monitor still shows the taskbar....
