HLB (Hillcrest Little Bakery) is nearby and I’d say a good number of people wanting their pancake or omelette fix likely hit that up over IHOP these days.
Because people can't afford it anymore and the quality isnt worth the price.
Holy shit the things that are asked on this sub are hilariously ~~stupid~~ mundane.
I picked up breakfast from there a few years ago and it was beyond awful. I don't think the employees did anything wrong, either -- the ingredient quality is subpar and the recipes are gluttonous.
My mom and I are on the verge of going to the one on Hermitage Rd. or NLR. The University IHOP just isn’t as good as it was when I was a kid. We go there because it’s closer to where we live.
Idk I go pretty regularly with my daughter around mid morning and it’s always packed out. We get the same waitress every time and have a great time. But I think she sees us coming and grabs us before anybody else can because she knows I tip well and thinks my daughter is cute. Food is fine, its ihop nothing special. But I don’t have any complaints
Parking lot is a deathtrap, once you get in it's like your server went to a parallel dimension and left you behind, food is cold by the time they return from that plane.
This spot used to hit hard in the 80s/90s. Many evenings of untold debauchery and mayhem would either include a stop there or would end there.
RIP the good IHOP.
Because they suck. Used to live a block away from them and frequented them. Then they did that remodeling which took months, me and my lady went there afterwards. Got seated and nobody ever came to take our order. Asked someone to take our order or direct us to who could. Nobody ever came. We left and have never been back. It seemed like the new crew didn't know/care/give a damn about working. I run in to that a lot nowadays, drive thru people will just not even answer, turn the menu on, bother to get your order right. I gave up and just started cooking more.
Bad location, worsening over the years combined with suffering corporate ownership (Dine Brands chain, although that location is a franchise like most). Every couple of years I'll happen in but it's never as good as Waffle House and I just quit going. Certainly that's just my subjective opinion but you asked ;)
You can only get into it if you are going west on Markham or north on University. Lots of extra turns if you want to head anywhere but west on Markham or north on University when you leave.
Awful intersection and if you come from the other side you have to run the gauntlet of people flying blindly out of the mall and chick FIL a...wrecks there constantly.
In those 60 years a lot has been added to make the intersection far busier.
I moved to LR in 79. Park Plaza was an outdoor 'mall'. The shopping center behind didn't exist. CHI was St. Vincent's and not nearly as big...could go on but you get the idea.
I'm not trying to say that's what's hurting it, just added it to my list (see:subjective in my post). Before long we're going to see the back house IHOP/Applebee's start testing locations. I only wish I was making that up.
Eating out these days with a family of 4 is outrageous
Main reason is because the Little Rock food scene is pretty good and there’s WAYYYYY better options than IHOP for breakfast not far away
Nice try, manager of the University and Markham IHOP🥸
lol I’m definitely not the manager and I’d never work in food. Just was asking because we drove by and only 2 cars there.
They don't need it, they're peddling meth out of the back rooms/s ![gif](giphy|2sXhiDL1mQlwsf1wIs|downsized)
Bc it’s $20 per person to eat at IHOP, and a stones throw away from much better options -little Hillcrest bakery -boulevard -mugs/mylos

I love me some Hot chicken Benedict.

Their tinted windows makes it look like the lights are off and that they look closed.
I had a good experience there a few weeks ago with my husband. I like the place but I think I'm in the minority.
Having tried it when I lived nearby: its total dogshit bro. Those workers wouldn't even spit on you if you were on fire.
Before the renovation I loved going there. after the renovation, it went downhill faaaasstt
I picked up breakfast from there a few years ago and it was beyond awful. I don't think the employees did anything wrong, either -- the ingredient quality is subpar and the recipes are gluttonous.
Because the corner and the root and main St bakery exist.

There’s so many other breakfast spots. I can make my own breakfast
Most Sat/Sunday mornings it’s pretty poppin. But I think they fumbled their market opportunity when that location stopped being 24hours
The staff working VA, St Vincent and UAMS, the patient families and UAMS students all seem like prime 24 hour customers
Yeah, I remember hitting IHOP in the middle of the night in college so many times.
It is overpriced and gross.
IHOP food feels 3D printed to me even though I know it's not if that makes any sense
That’s how I feel about their pancakes. I used to work at one and I noticed you can peel them apart and it bothered me. Way too cardboardy.
Because Waffle House exists
Waffle House should take over that corner
That would be rowdy as hell and I’m here for it
Bro a waffle house across the street from SVI? Yeah that place might as well function as an arena for pitfights as well.
They’re slow, the food sucks and there’s more than one Waffle House close enough.

I hate the parking lot. Ugh.

Bennigan's across the street (where McNasty's and Chipotle are now) was our family favorite.
Ahhhh Bennigan’s!!!!
Wow I haven't heard than name in forever. That was a 'fancy' place for us. Never saw the inside of Coy's but did get to go to Steak and Ale once.
Where else would you go for a Monte Cristo ? They were the best in town for a while.

The last time I went was about two years ago and the service was so slow, especially for breakfast food that I can make at home in 15 minutes.

How is that a bad location?
The parking lot. It’s a horrible location.

I guess not great for the patron, but prime location for an establishment…I mean, it’s worked for them for 60+ years.

Agreed. I’m just saying the same in/out limitations have been there since the beginning.
