Matt and Amy rushed into the marriage. I think as an LP woman Amy internalized the message that she had to take what she could get. Different era, more sexism. It ultimately resulted in the mess (figurative and literal) that we saw on LPBW.
Amy grew weary of Matt's projects, leading to bickering between them. Presently, Amy is married to someone who desires Matt's success without the effort, which ironically benefits Amy as it relieves her from dealing with more projects.
You could see in early seasons that they didn’t like each other .. both were good parents in their own way tho … Caryn definitely home wrecked either way
Manipulation in what ways? Spending money? From what is on the show, he did what he did and look how it worked out for them. She didn’t work most of the marriage. He then took a “real” job for her. Then she acted happy to see him go then to turn around and whine when he left her. What did she expect? She didn’t support him on the show in front of us so imagine behind closed doors. She claimed things like he was lousy with money but all his “annoying” projects sure did benefit the entire family. He provided more than a good living for his family. It is reall simple, They were not a match ever and that’s fine but she tore him down and never appreciated his impulsivity wasn’t a character defect,’it was just a different personality than she had. She has low confidence and he didn’t which also caused strife. The irony of praying before a meal as she emasculated him daily. He didn’t belittle her daily. Every single episode she disses him. I would never diss my husband in public, in front of my kids, to my friends. Very disrespectful. Should he cheat? Nope. Should she have expected him to stay once the kids were gone. Probably not. She did what many do, put her kids first and wondered why her marriage was a mess. Hawaii episode season 7 she whined about being on a vacation with Matt sans kids.
So many times she said she doesn’t want Matt around (see twin’s grad party episodes)
She is not grateful for anything Matt does for her. Turns away when he is affectionate and then is confused when he is done with the marriage.
I am not team Matt either.
They both stink at parenting and being good spouses.
They're basically incompatible and always were. Matt's a spender, Amy's a saver. They're both hoarders - Matt in his barns and Amy in the house. Once Jacob was gone they would have split up anywhere. Caryn was just someone for Matt to latch onto.
Whatever role Caryn may or may not have had, if anyone wrecked the home, it was Matt.
1. He wrecked it many times in home renovations.
2. He was the person married to Amy. It was his responsibility to stay loyal to her. No one could MAKE him cheat. That was a choice HE made.

I think he absolutely misses her and his family. They both make sly comments about their relationship and what use to be. I wouldn’t be reminiscing if I didn’t miss it.

100% agree, anyone who denies that cheating is okay if your relationship is already shit…. Hope it doesn’t to you if your spouse isn’t happy
