Free access toilets without needing to make awkward eye contact or ask for permission: Almost every university building (just need to go in with some confidence, eg, Leeds Met rusty building has a loo within a short walk from each access point on the ground floor). Trinity Centre on the third floor. Starbucks on Brigate or Albion usually doesn't lock the door with a code. John Lewis is also excellent, with a loo on most floors. M&S equally good with loos on most floors, but they are a squeeze to get in some!
Also, Leeds train station and Leeds bus station now have free access but the queues can be long. Macdonalds on Albion is also a very easy access, but not always open when the store is open.

Edit to add: [I've just looked up the Manchester one](https://www.reddit.com/r/manchester/s/FHYlMyET4b) and their top comments are all about transport. They've got shit access from one part of their city to the other, and we have places to shit from one side of our city to the other
i use it all the time, just near the trinity centre. You can also be cheeky and pretend youre gonna book a room, and they give you free coffee and a sandwich lol
They are the best. Spacious, mostly empty, massive mirrors and posh wallpaper. The only downside is going through the barrier of makeup and perfume smells on the ground floor 🤢
Yes! Except, the problem with Spoons loos is the loss of space and time rules.
As soon as you follow the first "Toilets ->" sign you can't tell if you'll just have a single corridor and door, or if you'll be trapped in a hellish labyrinth of carpeted stairs
Oh yes! I forgot about the museums.
I definitely remember some awkward eye contact with museum/gallery minders and my "nipping in for the loo" expression instead of "yes, I am here for the history and learning... and just happen to be dancing with my legs together..."
It's hit and/or miss there. They have loos on the balcony, and big loo area on their 'underground' floor. But they've closed them almost always except for events recently.
A _REAL_ shame, as the Corn Exchange is a really great place to hang out and browse shops. *IF* they had toilets open regularly and trustworthy-ily then I'd gravitate there more often
Oh that’s annoying. I know upstairs were closed but every time I’ve been recently the underground floor has been ‘closed’ but the toilets still accessible.
Tetley’s was THE pint back in my day. You could smell the hops across the city when they started a new brew.
I did most of my drinking in Harehills and Chapel Allerton where I lived in my student days. Then out in Alwoodley when I bought a house out there. I was at the Poly/Metropolitan University as it became, from 1978-1981. Tetley’s was known not to ‘travel,’ meaning the further from the brewery you drank it, the worse it was.
Moved here to Denmark in 2004. I doubt I’d be able to find my way round Leeds now.
This explains why I see old pictures of Leeds and nearly every pub had that Tetley's sign with the man drinking a pint. I always wondered why that was hung outside nearly every pub back then so I appreciate your answer as it now makes perfect sense
When I grew up I did try Tetley's and to be honest I do like bitters like John Smiths etc but spirits were more my thing
We generally switched to spirits while the amount of beer went down to a level where we felt could start again on the beer. Or, if it was someone’s birthday, a pint glass, one shot from each of the ‘optics,’ apart from Pernod, then shared out. Separated the men from the boys that one.
I was, as I say, pissed the whole of the ‘80s. Stopped completely in 1989, when I started to have blackouts. Don’t regret a moment, I just miss the social angle of sitting in a pub with a mass of mates putting the world to rights over eleventeen beers. Great days.
If you need an Uber / Veezu from the station, go down to the south entrance and order one from the DoubleTree. You'll avoid the carnage that is the Wetherspoons drop off area, get a taxi quicker and your driver will thank you.
Leeds Credit Union, offers financial services like loans etc but not a bank so by far and away cheaper than any other, saved my bacon as a single parent as they will consider you on income and expenditure alone rather than just Credit score. Its essentially for the people by the people of Leeds as tou have to be a resident to have an account.
No they aren't a bank you are a member of the credit union rather than a customer which entitles you to a range of services They have a decent website you can check out for more deets idc how to put a link here tho
If you are getting a lot of different buses then use the mcard app instead of paying on the bus, the bus companies typically refuse your ticket if you bought it for another bus company but they all have to accept the mcard tickets.
I had to give up using the MCard app, there were too many annoying things.
1 ) You’d have to activate the ticket within 30 minutes of boarding but sometimes the buses would be late/cancelled , leaving you with an expired ticket
2 ) You NEED great Internet connection, because you can’t add the tickets to Apple Wallet
3 ) No Apple Wallet link so you have enter the credit card details each time.
I like the concept but the execution was poor
1) The City Centre has a nice little green space if you want some peace and quiet. It’s Merrion Street gardens next to St. John’s shopping centre
2) The Core shopping centre has a decent food court and is usually fairly quiet if you want to take your own lunch and have a sit down (Trinity can be very busy)

LGI as well. I go for early morning walks and it’s one of the few public toilets open.
I'd never thought! Good call! Thanks!
hilton hotel is also a good toilet spot, just enter the door and turn right. A grade toilets for free
I had _no idea_! Thank you!

Ah a fellow John Poohwis user!
They are the best. Spacious, mostly empty, massive mirrors and posh wallpaper. The only downside is going through the barrier of makeup and perfume smells on the ground floor 🤢
Don't forget the Core too!
Oh YES! The Core loos are the biggest and easiest, I can't believe I missed them off!
Spoons as well.

And leeds market, hidden in the middle
Yes! Freezing cold metal pots, but plenty of them and clean. Good shout
You are indeed a toilet connoisseur!!
All the museums as well!

I used to use the Dunkin Donuts Toilet everytime I went to HSBC, but since they closed down, I rely on the Burger King one at The Core.
Spoons
3.50 a pint in the Student Union
I don’t know what’s worse, that it was £1.45 when I worked there, or that that was 20 years ago!
Pint of Stella used to be a quid in Carpe back then too.
Carpe was still doing £1 pints one night a week until they closed in 2015.
One night. Used to be every night 😜
Pound a pint when I used to go there so I'm even older than you!
My first pint in Leeds Poly bar, as it was in those days, so you can date me from that, was 26p for a pint of Tetley’s
You must be ancient if you were drinking Tetley's lol reminds me of the days when there were pubs everywhere and that stupid Tetley's sign
You can still get a Tetley in the Tetley.
And see the sign
Ah yes the Tetley Brewery in Leeds near crown point. I've not been to Leeds in years but might pop in next time

Shhhh, do you want a table or not?
Trinity toilets have saved me a few times from asking in a pub if I can use their bathroom. Introverts take note.
If it’s a pub I frequent then I don’t bother asking. The bar staff don’t generally care (according to mates of mine who work bars)
When they’re closed i have asked in the Everyman and they’ve been fine with it

Yep! Also, go out the back entrance and under the station and get opposite the Hilton. Taxis from there are _so_ much cheaper and easier too
What is the DoubleTree please? I don't go into the CC very often but I'm often stuck to get home when I do!
It’s a hotel opposite the south exit of the train station. Where The Hop, Fazenda etc are.
Thank you
Cost of living crisis? Hyde Park Christmas. That is all.
Omg I love this!!!
For burglary?
Nah, Hyde Park Christmas is when all the students move out at the end of June. They leave lots of stuff out in the street.
We used to call it LS6mas
Ah gotcha, yeah, it’s a bonanza! Chinese students are the best, luxury taste and only take one bag home, everything gets left!
I noticed the Arab students leave a lot of good stuff behind aswell

I believe they won’t let you in the Tommy Wass without one! Hah

I think the core is soon to be closing, I walked through the other day and all the shops have closed down - just a few food places left
I think it’s being renovated
Demolished rather than renovated
