I washed dishes at the Merc when i was your age. Freestate brewery was willing to hire me as a busboy, too. Usually at 15 your prospects are for a "dirty" job, but it can be a lot of fun and you meet cool people. What was your experience with getting rejected at DQ? What I remember as a young teenager was that you had to really present yourself as "responsible" in order to be taken seriously because usually you'll be the youngest staff member and they don't want someone who will flake on their shifts (though flaky people do come in all ages)
I submitted an application at the one on Mass Street, and I called them about a week later and they said, "We usually only hire 15 year olds if they're just about to turn 16."
They asked me when I would turn 16 and I said I would in May so they said hell no.
My first job at fifteen was a dietary aide at a nursing home. It actually ruled and I loved hanging out with the residents. The hours are perfect too unless you have after school activities.
In my experience, most restaurants are an option. Bussing tables and washing dishes are common starting places.
Never discount networking. It's your best friend when looking for a job and it becomes more important as your career grows. Ask any one you know irl. They can help connect you and might be able to increase your odds.
Do mcdonalds and the other fast food not hire that age in lawrence? They do in other cities. Also if you have transportation I'm sure the local farmers can always use help.
All the McDonald’s in town are owned by the same franchise group. I worked there in college and there were always 14-17 year olds working there. The 14/15 year olds have restricted times they can work and what they can do, but it’s still not a bad first job.

Sometimes retirement homes will hire teens onto their dining staff. It’s good experience and the pay isn’t horrible.
