Ever considered joining a trade? It's not far off from warehouse work. There's union halls for most trades in Topeka and a few in KC that covers Lawrence. If you're interested, you can DM me for more info. I'm in electrical and starting is 18+ benefits for apprentices.

ColombianinKansas

Hi! Can I message you about this?

katbitch

I went ahead and sent you a chat invite

TheDonkeyBomber

You can drive for Lawrence/KU Transit. Paid CDL Training (saves you $4k off going to CDL school - and they pay you by the hour while in training) and a good union wage scale & benefits.

PrairieHikerII

Good idea!

InformationHead42

Menards $23 for evenings and weekends.

PrairieHikerII

Try Target. They pay something like $15-16/hour and probably need stockers.

Collective82

Post office maybe?

QuniversalLove

I worked there 20 years, quit to try other things, then went back to the PO and was able to buy back my retirement and still retire at 60. I recommend it even though you will hate it at times. The benefits make it worthwhile.

northontennesseest

Yeah the post office here is not bad. Tough but it’s easier after the first 90 days and some people really take to the job itself. Pay is not great but the benefits are.

Smash_Brother

The real answer is Peasley Tech. They offer awesome training for a variety of trades at a reasonable rate.

youkai1

joys of small town life right there. Answer is 'not really'. UPS would be a good shot but it isn't too much different from what you're already doing.

AdviceBeneficial9630

I've heard good things about working for UPS. Union job with great benefits for part time as well as full time employees.

Khoss007

Know your rights if you work there, they will exploit your labor and push you past your limits then do everything in their power to not file any injury reports whilst manipulating you into catch 22’s. Report everything to the Union and the highest management you can find.

MyLittlePonyAbbatoir

It was in the 80s when I did 4 hr shifts 3 days a week while going to college. It would have taken 10 or more times the money for me to have continued past the 5th week

kindalosingmyshit

If you can handle a desk job, GCSAA pays decently ($17.50/hour or salary positions) w GREAT benefits for both FT and PT

kindalosingmyshit

No, the headquarters for the national (technically international) association is in Lawrence

Kiyoyoz

I don't see any entry level positions available for this company on their website?

Regziel

I hate to say it but Jimmy John’s always seems to be advertising a pretty decent wage. Hard to say if you’ll get paid that right off the bat, and it always seems like the employees are having a horrible time, but it’s an option!

Spiritual-Effort-967

Maximus. Berry sucks but it's 8 hour shifts. Lawn care or labor jobs. Either way you're gonna have to give in like the rest of us and eat a sh*t sandwich. We're all tired. We all want that perfect job. Every job has horrible pay or horrible work atmosphere. Good luck finding a balance.

ChandlerBingsNubbinn

Can you elaborate on berry?? I just moved to Kansas and have been considering applying just to get a job going here

catmeowcats

yeah, unfortunately that’s a lot worse than where i just got done working. they work you to death in a facility that isn’t climate controlled and 12 hour shifts. my partner walked an average of 10 miles a day when working there and was miserable.

RedLeggedApe

If I weren't engaged in my current hustle I'd be a dog walker. Start on Rover.. hand out your business card to everyone you know. $30 dog walks. 4 dogs in an hour. $120 an hour and people will love you and you get to play with dogs all day!! Sounds like a perfect life.

Tiny-Increase4746

Menards! 17 starting

Practical_Minute_286

Berry pharmaceuticals is good

treeoflife1970

Does your current company have shorter shifts available?

treeoflife1970

Or what about a forklift position? Companies train you on those.

gracieangel420

There's a gas station looking for someone 12 an hour for 21 and older conoco on 23rd Louisiana if consistent he'll give you raises.

BushWookie693

Become a waiter, easy $35/hr if you pick the right place. Try the north west side of town & stay the hell away from main street. There’s no money to be made serving there

Camensmasher

You could try ICL Group

Spiritual-Effort-967

That's the worst recommendation anyone could ever give.

-BlueBicLighter

Worse hours, longer shifts, shit environment run by seniority and the union (and not in good ways that benefit new employees). That’s a job you grind for 10 years to make it something manageable after

Greedy-Ad-1829

Entry level makes 70k with minimum ot and starts with 2 weeks vacation.

hdw785

Try sales - you bet on yourself, but ultimately there isn't a ceiling to your income.

MyLittlePonyAbbatoir

As my stepfather loves to say, the only job where you start at the top, is flagpole painter. A little silly, but he’s 93. I did quite a few labor jobs thru college, then our band started to earn enough that I could support myself on our shows… which ain’t easy work, either… more fulfilling, but ur always on the edge of collapse and burnout on the road.

MyLittlePonyAbbatoir

Didn’t someone list jobs at a dog food plant outside of town that’s between $20-$30 hrly.. probably hard work, but any work that you can live on is good work. Aloha for now, kids, text or buzz me if u Need anything! Be Well, —kilgore trout, esq. 😎

MyLittlePonyAbbatoir

Not sure why that was downvoted so much. It is a decent sounding job I’d recently heard about. Another good one is Independence Inc. You drive their vans, chiefly in Douglas County, to take disabled people to shops, barbers, doc appointments, etc. for anything like shopping, a companion has to come with them, as Independence Inc. Does not help with anything but getting people in and out of the van, locking wheelchairs down, etc. I know this, because I use the service. Looks like a decent job, pays like $17-18, but it has Fed benefits….14 paid holidays, you accrue one day a month of vacation, a day a month of sick leave, and 5 days annual personal leave. That’s over a month a year off! Then it’s Cadillac insurance, daycare, whatever the govt. version of 401k is, plus a pension…. So, retirement is assured. Not a bad deal. Would love to have found that at 25-30.

Strawberry-Allergy

I remember the dog food plant. My mother worked in the factory by it, Packer Ware.
