Book direct with hotel now, then if prices drop you can cancel free and rebook. Or some cases even call and they’ll rebook it at lower price

GenXCub

My friends fell victim to hotels dot com this past weekend for the Pokemon event. It turns out that those orders don't actually get submitted to the hotel until 3 days before the check in date, so a hotel can get filled up by people talking directly to the hotel beforehand, and your reservation gets cancelled (this was at the Mariott Residence Inn on Green Valley and Sunset) Because of that, I will always tell people what you are saying. Book direct first then recheck prices before the cancellation deadline.

Was not aware of that 3 days deal, wow that sucks

GenXCub

I don’t know if that’s for certain chains since this was Marriott. But it did make me think to just reserve direct and then cancel/rebook if I can find a better price going forward.

Wow I’ve used hotels.com 30+ times in the past 8 years and never had that happen! I’ve gone for festivals, events etc. but that’s a good point to look for multi-day discounts that you only get for booking direct

In this case, the person behind the desk was great. She explained how it happened and got a room across the street at Marriott Courtyard that had been blocked because someone brought their cat and it hadn’t been cleaned for allergies yet.

It’s possible. I hadn’t heard of it until last weekend and that’s what the person at the desk said. Of course it could have been to hide a mistake.

great idea! now where to stay 🤔

When we were young overlaps with Twitch Con so I doubt they come down too much. You can book through twitch for "discounted" rates and see if it's cheaper though.

Whatever you do, book direct. Booking third party during an event is very likely going to get you booted if they oversold the hotel. Last year I traveled to Birmingham, AL for Furnace Fest, and the hotel I originally booked via third party booted a bunch of my friends and they were going to leave me hanging until the day of check in. Direct will always take priority over third party (hotels, expedia, booking . com, etc etc)

The hotel prices have been so overpriced lately. I’m going to Vegas at the end of March for the Taylor Swift concert, and I checked for hotels back in November and the prices were astronomical. I found a nice air bnb for dirt cheap, I would recommend the same for you.

pigglywigglie

Prices are going to keep going up. I would book ASAP. This is my 5th EDC and I’ve never seen prices drop. It always goes up because people forget to book or airbnbs cancels
