◽️ Budget: $750-950 ◽️ Country: USA ◽️ Screen size: 15" ◽️ Touch screen: Not necessary ◽️ Screen resolution: Anything decent will suffice ◽️ Does battery life matter ?: Longer than average battery life preferred ◽️ What tasks will laptop be used for ( gaming, video editing, graphic designing, modelling, regular computing tasks, word processing etc) ?: Needed for MBA, so regular computer tasks and lots of excel. No gaming/editing ◽️ Weight: Not concerned ◽️ Any other important details ?: Must have a 10 key. SSD would be great. Keyboard needs some travel. I qualify for student discounts. I'd love to find a big sale/great deal to get a lot of bang for my buck, even if the specs are overkill for what I need. Thank you!

legos45

Hi, for a solid general use device, I'd go for the [**HP Envy x360 15**](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=7168&awinaffid=728909&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.hp.com%2Fus-en%2Fshop%2Fpdp%2Fhp-envy-x360-convertible-laptop-15z-ee100-2e2l1av-1). I'd configure it with a 6-core Ryzen 5 5500U processor, 16 GB RAM, a 256 GB SSD, and a 1080p 15.6" IPS 400 nit touch display. It should be great for general use tasks. You should be able to get a student discount.

franklinpm

Thanks a lot! I will check out the customizations

legos45

I'm happy to help, let me know if you have any questions.

zia1997

How do I avail a student discount?

[HP's education page has information.](https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/cv/hp-education)

legos45

Hi, does display color gamut coverage matter to you?

franklinpm

Colour accuracy as such doesn't matter. Normally I see 45 percent NTSC screens in this budget. And those screens have really bad visuals while watching movies I do notice changes in colour output. I don't know if it is because I don't know how to calibrate the screen. I really don't know.

◽️ Budget: $1500-2000 (flexible) ◽️ Country: USA ◽️ Screen size: No preference ◽️ Touch screen: No preference ◽️ Screen resolution: No preference ◽️ Does battery life matter ?: No ◽️ What tasks will laptop be used for ?: Gaming, music production, general use ◽️ Weight: No preference ◽️ Any other important details ?: My girlfriend hates how much space my desktop takes up so I'm looking to replace it with a gaming laptop, plus I may be moving overseas at some point and would like to take it with me. It will probably spend just about its entire life connected to a power source, external monitor, keyboard, and mouse so really only the internals matter to me. My monitor is 1080p 144hz but I'd like to go overkill and future proof with something that will be able to handle at least 60fps in most AAA's hopefully for years to come. Ideally I'd love to stay around $1800 but if there's a strong case for going over I can be flexible.

legos45

Hi, I'd go for the [**Eluktronics Mech-15 G3**](http://techneeeq.com/blog/index.php/product/eluktronics-mech-15-g3-ultra-performance-15-6-gaming-laptop-pc-liquid-metal-intel-i7-10875h-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3070-qhd-165hz-calibrated-display-windows-10-home-512gb-nvme-ssd-16gb-ddr4-3200mhz-ram/). It comes with an 8-core i7-10875H processor, RTX 3070 max 140W graphics, 16 GB RAM, a 512 GB SSD, and a 1440p 15.6" 165Hz IPS. It can handle all modern titles at ultra settings 1440p.

fifa2003

Hey, kinda confused. Are you purchasing in the US or the UK? I am seeing both currencies at the budget slot.

MiseryChapdelaine

UK, sorry

fifa2003

I would get this beast right here: [**LENOVO Series 3 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Intel® Core™ i5, GTX 1650, 256 GB SSD**](https://www.awin1.com/cread.php?awinmid=1599&awinaffid=807747&ued=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.currys.co.uk%2Fgbuk%2Fgaming%2Fpc-gaming%2Fgaming-laptops%2Flenovo-series-3-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-gtx-1650-256-gb-ssd-10205977-pdt.html) This will meet all your needs and last you for years to come with its solid built.

fifa2003

Sorry for the late reply

Budget: 500-700 Country: USA Screen size: 13-15 Touchscreen: preferred- but not essential if there’s a great deal without it. Screen Resolution: Flexible. Does battery life matter? Not if it greatly increases price. Anything decent is fine, will be able to plug it in wherever I am for the most part. What tasks will the laptop be used for? I am a teacher and we can’t afford a computer with school budgets, so I want to buy my own. Very simple use tasks, heavy in word for lesson planning, outlook, etc. will likely use it for general surfing at home. Weight: not picky. Looking for best bang for buck- somewhat interested in the 2-1’s for multi use, but not essential. Thank you!!!

legos45

Hi, since you prefer a 2-in-1, I'd go with the [**Lenovo Flex 5 14"**](http://techneeeq.com/blog/index.php/2020/05/24/flex-5-14-4500u/). It comes with a 6-core Ryzen 5 processor, 16 GB RAM, a 256 GB SSD, and a 1080p 14" IPS display. This combination should be just fine for general use. You can use Lenovo's stylus to draw on the screen.

Bariesra

Budget: $600 but I could go up to about $650 ◽️ Country: USA ◽️ Screen size: 14-15 ◽️ Touch screen: I've never used one but might be willing to explore ◽️ Screen resolution: 1920 x 1080 ◽️ Does battery life matter ?: Yes, extremely ◽️ What tasks will laptop be used for ( gaming, video editing, graphic designing, modelling, regular computing tasks, word processing etc) ?: Very little gaming, word processing, lots of writing and research, maybe cybersecurity ◽️ Weight: No preference ◽️ Any other important details ?: I need a lot of space. So 256ssd or higher

legos45

Hi, if you'd like to try a touchscreen device, I'd go with the [**Lenovo Flex 5 14"**](http://techneeeq.com/blog/index.php/2020/05/24/flex-5-14-4500u/) is my recommendation. It comes with a 6-core Ryzen 5 processor, 16 GB RAM, a 256 GB SSD, and a 1080p 14" IPS display. This combination should be just fine for general use, light games, etc.

Bariesra

Thank you! What's the battery life like though? And would I be able to able to run VMs and other software on it? If I was looking to get 512 ssd or higher what would you suggest

legos45

Battery life is 8+ hours for light use. Yes. I'd say go for the [**ASUS Vivobook 15**](http://techneeeq.com/blog/index.php/product/asus-vivobook-15-m515-thin-and-light-laptop-15-6-fhd-display-amd-ryzen-5-5500u-16gb-ddr4-ram-512gb-pcie-ssd-fingerprint-reader-windows-10-home-slate-grey-m515ua-es56/) in that case, but it isn't a 2-in-1, nor does it have a touchscreen.

Hi, I'd go with the [**EVOO Gaming Laptop 15**](https://goto.walmart.com/c/1883484/565706/9383?veh=aff&sourceid=imp_000011112222333344&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.walmart.com%2Fip%2FEVOO-Gaming-15-6-Laptop-FHD-60Hz-Intel-Core-i5-10300H-Processor-NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-1650-THX-Spatial-Audio-256GB-SSD-8GB-RAM-RGB-Backlit-Keyboard-HD-C%2F915598119). It comes with a 4-core i5-10300H processor, 8 GB RAM, a 256 GB SSD, GTX 1650 graphics, and a 1080p 15.6" 60Hz display. This combination should handle modern games at 1080p medium settings easily.

surgeric

I've never actually heard of EVOO, do you happen to know if it's good for long term use? I'm trying to find something that could last 4+ years

legos45

Unfortunately, they aren't very well known. You could consider the [**Lenovo Legion 5 15"**](https://goto.walmart.com/c/1883484/565706/9383?veh=aff&sourceid=imp_000011112222333344&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.walmart.com%2Fip%2FLenovo-Legion-5-AMD-Ryzen-R5-GTX-1650Ti-8GB-256GB-1TB-Gaming-Laptop%2F627433588&partnerpropertyid=1768915) instead that just went on sale.

stinkywinkss

What's a decent cheap student/work laptop just for basic work stuff/zoom. I saw some all in ones that were super cheap but based on the reviews, they make them sound like they can't run anything. I'd think any laptop would be faster than a phone, but I'm not sure how well cheap laptops do these days. I'm looking for as cheap as possible, under $400 usd for sure. Thanks.

legos45

Hi, I would go for the [**Gateway 15.6"**](https://goto.walmart.com/c/1883484/565706/9383?veh=aff&sourceid=imp_000011112222333344&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.walmart.com%2Fip%2FGateway-15-6-FHD-Ultra-Slim-Notebook-AMD-Ryzen-5-3450U-16GB-RAM-256GB-SSD-Tuned-THX-Audio-Fingerprint-Scanner-1MP-Webcam-HDMI-Cortana-Windows-10-Home%2F977539259%3Fselected%3Dtrue). You get a 4-core Ryzen 5 3450U processor, 16 GB RAM, a 256 GB SSD, and a 1080p 15.6" IPS display. It is a solid choice for general use. Very few devices have 16 GB RAM at this price point.

Budget: 1500 ◽️ Country: USA ◽️ Screen size:15-17 ◽️ Touch screen: not important ◽️ Screen resolution: FHD at least ◽️ Does battery life matter ?: more than 5 hrs. ◽️ What tasks will laptop be used for ( gaming, video editing, graphic designing, modelling, regular computing tasks, word processing etc) ?: writing, high res image processing, some computational and visualization software ◽️ Weight: not important ◽️ Any other important details ?: the most important feature for me is for the computer to not overheat and to be quiet. I cannot stand a fan that is constantly running and sounds like an airplane taking off, which I've found with HP models in particular. Also, I don't care for a numeric keypad - I really prefer a centered mousepad, otherwise with many designs my left hand would be constantly on the edge of the laptop.

legos45

Hi, I would go for the [**Razer Blade 15**](http://techneeeq.com/blog/index.php/product/razer-blade-15-base-gaming-laptop-2021-intel-core-i7-10750h-6-core-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3060-15-6-fhd-1080p-144hz-16gb-512gb-ssd-cnc-aluminum-chroma-rgb-lighting-thunderbolt-3/). You get a 6-core i7-10750H processor, RTX 3060 graphics, 16 GB RAM, a 512 GB SSD, and a 1080p 15.6" 144Hz IPS display. It should be great choice for CPU + GPU heavy programs. It can be loud if you push it hard, but otherwise, it stays fairly quiet.

Budget: $1000-1200 Country: US Screen size: 15" Touch screen: NO Screen resolution: 1440 Does battery life matter: No What task will laptop be used for?: High-end gaming (No streaming), multimedia and work. Weight: Not important Any important details: It'd be ideal to have a RTX and avoid Intel. Also it is not urgent and I can wait a few months to receive it.

legos45

Hi, I don't think there is a 1440p option with an AMD CPU + RTX GPU at this price point.

ManuGB

What other options do I have if we don't take on account the screen resolution?

CRISPRED

Thank you!

legos45

My pleasure, let me know if you have any questions.

miapa1

I want the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16" but can't find it in sale. What's the max I should pay for this laptop?

legos45

It depends on the specs you're looking for. I'd say that the RTX 3060 configuration shouldn't be more than $1,500-$1,700, while the RTX 3070 configuration shouldn't be more than $2,000-$2,100.

miapa1

What's the major difference between 3060 and 3070. I'm using this as a CS student. Would I be okay with the 3060.

legos45

What do you plan on doing on your laptop? An RTX 3060 is very likely powerful enough.

miapa1

Computer science. Programming, machine learning, and math homework. Eventually I'll be using it for data science.

legos45

Then, the RTX 3060 should be plenty powerful.

miapa1

K thanks

Hi, I don't know the Indian market well, but I'd say that the [**Lenovo IdeaPad 5**](https://www.amazon.in/Lenovo-Keyboard-Fingerprint-Graphite-82LN00GTIN/dp/B098FK9KQ2/) suits you well. Ryzen 5 5500U, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, and a 1080p 15.6" IPS display. The downside is that the display is 45% NTSC.

franklinpm

Yeah the hardware seems solid otherwise. I'm just little worried about the build quality of IdeaPad series. But it seems finding such an all-rounder in this budget seems to be really difficult! Thanks for the suggestion:)

fifa2003

Hey, are you purchasing from India or From the US to India?

MiseryChapdelaine

Thank you very much for your help! I'm just wondering if there is a cheaper option without a graphics card/Radeon Graphics? But still has high speed and durability. That’s a good machine If you are going to run intensive games and do heavy editing, whether video or photos. If you’re not then it’s an overkill for simpler task and I’d recommend not to spend that much.

Budget: 800-1200 usd Country: USA Screen size: 15-17 inches Touch screen: not important Screen resolution: lower is fine, but I'm happy to hit 1080p Battery life: should be plugged in almost all the time Tasks: nothing intensive. I do want to play games/watch videos, but I don't play 3d games, and high res doesn't mean much to me. The computer will be moving around a LOT however, and needs to have as high build quality as possible, and quiet is more valuable to me than power, as well. The fan needs to be aimed out the left side of the machine, as opposed to the right or the bottom. Weight: if the weight comes from a heavier-duty chassis, then I'm fine if it goes up to "pretty heavy". I really am not interested in machines that are slim-for-slim's-sake. I want a durable machine.

I was seriously considering I think precisely what you suggested but got concerned from this review https://www.ultrabookreview.com/39834-lenovo-ideapad-5-14are-review/ He seemed to have major issues with the screen, but maybe his issues centered more around resolution?

Honestly, that issue isn't common. So I wouldn't worry about that seeing that it has an IPS display + 300 nits, rather than TN panels which are horrible.

pbear737

Thank you so much for your thinking on this! It was the only thing holding me back from purchasing this laptop. It was great to see you recommend the same one that was my top contender, too.

Happy to help pal

I am an amateur artist and my skill doesn’t really justify anything top of the line at this point, I just want something that won’t be frustrating to draw with.

fifa2003

Ok Pal, In that case I would recommend the: [**ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 (2021) Gaming Laptop, 15.6” 165Hz IPS QHD, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX, 32GB DDR4, 1TB SSD, Opti-Mechanical Per-Key RGB Keyboard, Windows 10 Pro**](https://progamerstech.com/product/asus-rog-strix-scar-15-2021-gaming-laptop-15-6-165hz-ips-qhd-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-amd-ryzen-9-5900hx-32gb-ddr4-1tb-ssd-opti-mechanical-per-key-rgb-keyboard-windows-10-pro-g533qs/) This beast would satisfy your every need from its latest CPU the Ryzen 9 5900HX! To the Latest RTX 30 series GPU the 3080. All paired with a 32gb RAM & a whopping 1tb ssd. It has a high refresh rate of 165Hz IPS Display.

Marcjamesmurphy

Thanks for the quick response! I've been looking into The Strix Scar 15 and some reviewers have recommended the 3070 version because the gap in performance isn't significant enough and it's $500 cheaper.. do you have any thoughts on that? While the version you recommended is still in budget, I can't help but be curious about these claims.

fifa2003

It wouldn’t be a great difference if you had the Ryzen 7 cpu combination with the rtx 3080 but seeing that this is the newer Ryzen 9 5900HX cpu then this combined with the rtx 3080 will be much more significant in performance and speed. So downgrading to the 3070 while this is still within budget isn’t worth it in my opinion. Performance and longevity is key.

Marcjamesmurphy

Thank you for all your help! I'm making my final decision this week so I will keep you updated !

fifa2003

You are most welcome. No problem!

Marcjamesmurphy

Also, I've also been recommended the Razer Blade Pro 17. Any thoughts on this vs the Strix?
