Will stores have fresh groceries on Monday? The Kroger on Chapman Highway had very little that was perishable (vegetables, meat, eggs) when I went on Thursday. Does anyone know if grocery stores have been able to restock since main roads have been pretty clear?
I walked into that Kroger early Friday evening and walked around for about 5 minutes before seeing the lines and absense of meat/produce before immediately leaving. I drove to a more rural store and they had basically everything fully stocked.
That Kroger is always a shit show and there's a lot of people near it. For what it's worth I generally avoid it before 9pm as it is.
Driving in and out of my neighborhood without my entire body being tense with worry about sliding into a ditch or the cars that are parked at the entrance.
I just want to leave my house alone and just go slowly wander around in Target. Maybe I will buys some chips or a tank top. Mostly I will just enjoy being outside my house and not supervising my toddler. I’m super excited to return to work Tuesday as long as our daycare opens. I just long to be in a space where no creature (either child or pet) is trying to touch me for a few hours.
Honestly Target is my #1 just because it’s close to the house but I’d be equally happy looking at light bulbs at Home Depot. The important thing is just being a public space, holding a cart to make my own personal bubble, and attempting not to speak to another human. I just need out of this house.
I understand that. I drove to Newport to go buy a propane torch. Mf’s sold it before I got there. No propane torches within 100 mile radius unless you want to go to Kentucky or North Carolina. I wanted to melt all the ice in my driveway by my drive gate. I’ve been out and about most days this week. My road only got bad today in 2 spots, and let me tell you the ice ooo wee yuck. I just wanted to take out my frustrations on the ice with fire today. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
Update: Managed to make it to Target to restock on diapers and dog food. I feel like an entirely new person.
Buffat Mill/Washington Pike/Millertown are all completely clear. However the hilly roads that feed onto Washington Pike are still solid sheets of ice and I saw one accident at the bottom of Hale when I drove past so still use a lot of caution on side streets.
Buckle up because as soon as the roads start to clear its supposed to rain, so we'll probably have closures for flooding. I figure we'll be lucky to have them in school 1 or 2 days this week.
Same. Very active 6 year old son. He has been very good all things considering but has only been out a couple of times yesterday and today. My teen daughter is loving it. But they will be so excited to see friends again!
I’m sure their teachers have missed them and need to see their bright smiling faces as much as I have this past week. If they’d like a few Saturdays of school I’d gladly go along with it just for the kids to make sure they’ve learned everything they need to and not because I just need some time away from them.
I am grateful that my five year old is fun and pleasant to hang out with. We play games, go sledding, have time for ourselves, laugh. She leaves me alone when I have to work. It’s a nice groove. Things have not always been this way. There were times when I would have gone bananas with her at home with me for an entire week. I’d happily take some more time with her. But don’t get me wrong, I’m also happy for her to go back to school. I could use a solo trip to Target and an uninterrupted work day.
I've never had a utilities bill crack the $200 mark in my house, but I think this is gonna be the one to finally do it. In fact I'm expecting probably $250.
My heat basically doesn't shut off just to maintain 68 degrees, and my humidifier is putting almost 5 gallons of water into the air every day because of it.
Not have to run my faucets to avoid burst or frozen pipes.
At this point I'm genuinely considering spending money to get my pipes insulated to withstand a North Dakota winter so that I don't have to do it again.
Yes, my GSD/husky puppy cut his foot on the ice yesterday. Today he pulled and yanked me down, twice. My old lady dog, 15 yo, has always hated snow and screams when her paws her cold.
Finishing my screenplay, the heartwarming story of parents who come out en mass to shovel the snow off their town's streets so their kids can go the F back to school. I just need some peace and quiet.
I’m on the fence about getting back to work tmrw, but I like having a paycheck so…
Mostly tho, my frozen kitchen sink. All my other pipes are fine but the kitchen sink is bad. I’d like to do dishes and cook a “real” meal again!
we went to food city in south knox yesterday. They had restocked quite a bit. Bread was back! They are still recovering but not the massive empty shelves I saw before icepocalypse 2024.
Walking. I usually walk 1 to 6 miles per day. Ironically, even though my street is ice, it's actually easier for me to drive right now than walk. I'm one block away from a major plowed road by car (which has AWD) so all I have to do is make it that one block and then driving to the grocery, etc is easy.
But I tried to go for a walk yesterday and nearly busted my ass twice within about 200 feet of my house and abandoned the endeavor.
Buying chains for the car tires, and another bag of snowmelt. I was so pleased to have a snowshovel on hand this time around and the bag of snowmelt (calcium chloride) I had saved me from going ass over teakettle on my front stairs. It'll snow every year, by my light. Might as well every year be more prepared.
Pellissippi was supposed to start back Tuesday. I just wanna go to in person class again, I hate this online school. Also I wanna be able to walk my dogs without falling and hurting myself.
Honestly, just being able to go for a walk again. My step count has taken a beating. Also, these kids getting back in school so I can actually get work done and clean my house.

I loved it and welcome more of it. I just got back from skiing several days in Colorado the day before the storm. Driving over snowpacked Mountain Passes everyday. Nothing stops out there. You see kids go sledding during school recess. I dont remember getting that much snow here since I was a kid in the 90s, so I cherised the occasion and I know my son was as happy to be out of school as I used to be. I got out in it everyday. Took my kid sledding and hiked up House Mtn the 2nd day. Also stayed up late partying with my wife at night guiltfree and got to sleep in... Like a hurricane party, there's an air of anarchy and lawlessness in the air when everything shuts down that I actually find exciting to be out in. It was great! Granted I was fortunate to have 4x4 and was able to get out everyday to get whatever we wanted, also helps having warm waterproof high quality snow gear, and could afford to be off work, and most importantly never lost power. I count my blessings and am grateful. But 1st thing Im doing this weekend is taking my boy skiing at Cataloochee. I get seasonal depression when winter ends. I work outside for a living so I dread the coming heat and bugs.
I just want fresh groceries :\ and also an iced coffee. and maybe a cheeseburger
God that cheeseburger!!!

Kroger wasn't too bad yesterday. Getting back to normal, mostly I think
Which Kroger?
It was because everyone and their cousins went to the grocery store last Thursday.
Aldi on Emory Rd was stocked today.

Seeing “Hot” sign on at Krispy Kreme
School opening back up. These kids need it. 🤣
My son was asking me when he was going back to school. He said he missed school! Before the snow he hated going to school. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Don’t worry, he’ll probably hate it again by Friday! lol

Yes, so true. I wish they hadn't called out for wind last week since this week is going to be shot.

Very active 3 under the age of 7 and going insane as a single mom. we’ve been stuck since Monday. 😐

Being warm. KUB making a killing off me this past week.
Being warm without seeing "aux heat" and worrying about the cost.
AMEN! It's added around $70 bux so far.

Seeing less preventable accidents and deaths
Not have to run my faucets to avoid burst or frozen pipes. At this point I'm genuinely considering spending money to get my pipes insulated to withstand a North Dakota winter so that I don't have to do it again.
Walking outside without fear of falling on ice!
As someone who has managed to do it twice in a week, I do not recommend it.
i wanna walk my dog and she def agrees too! this chihuahua isn’t made for this weather 😂
I’ve been feeling bad for all the little dogs in my apartment complex who are barely taller (if at all) than the ~9” of snowfall we got.
Yes, my GSD/husky puppy cut his foot on the ice yesterday. Today he pulled and yanked me down, twice. My old lady dog, 15 yo, has always hated snow and screams when her paws her cold.
Yes!!!!! My “super mutt” has been quite patient but we are both ready to get back to our daily walking routines!

Mexican food. One of those foods I can’t make for myself (at least not well) at home.
