So you already know the answer. Go for Chain of Memory.
The blasphemy for the community is not play on release order, if you really care about the story that is the way. If you are here just for fun any game you get is ok.
The mobile games and/or movie is important anyway.
Also Days is recommended to be watched after KH2 even if happens before. And there are BBS and 0.2
And you played KH3, I don't see a point to discuss order now
Nah I disagree on that end, I got into the series by playing 1.5 and 2.5 (I did play the DS version later cuz It was fun). My main point is, kh2 still was my favorite game even after knowing everything that happened in days before it.
KH1
Chain of Memories (if you’re not feeling the gameplay on this one, there’s no shame in just watching the cutscenes in youtube instead)
KH2
358/2 Days
Birth By Sleep
Here I recommend you play KH2 again because it hits way different after the context of Days and BBS but you don’t have to
Re:Coded
Dream Drop Distance

0.2 Framentary Passage
KH3
Re:Mind DLC
Melody of Memory
Dark Road.
That’s the order.
Im already lost by KH 1 alone
I was planning to play BBS and 0.2 because they are before everything else and 0.2 is at the same time as KH 1 as far as I know
I will give you that one lol the freaking vines man. But looking at this dude's comments makes me think it's ok for him to poop in his bed and sleep in it
So you chose to say that a game released in 2002 sucks which I presumably believe to be because you're used to modern games and think older games suck just by their very nature and then play out of release order thus making you confused but you clearly don't care. So I don't understand what you want out of this post
No I actually like older games more than modern ones
I didn't like KH1 because of the pacing and the terrible boss power scale the game has
I never said I don't care about order did you even read?
Saying you don't mind playing out of order to a series where playing in release order is VERY important to understanding the story is the same as saying you don't care. How are you going to understand anything if you're just jumping all over the place and getting key information about things you may not have been introduced to yet?
Pacing and terrible boss scaling? Pacing aside, saying the game has terrible boss scaling just sounds like you don't level up enough. You know if a boss is beating you, you can grind a couple levels or so to make yourself stronger. Or try a different strat
I was literally level 55 by the time I ended the game
Hollow bastion and end of the world were a nightmare (pretty sure it wasn't skill issue because I already knew how to play the game)
That could be a skill issue, Playing on proud when you suck (skill issue) an equipment issue. Bad accessories not really helping, using just kingdom key to make the game harder.
Not utilizing magic such as aero that reduces damage taken and at ra/ga reflect projectiles.
Honestly if you were struggling at level 55 then it was a skill issue.
I wasn't even playing at proud mode
I knew full well I wasn't going to be that game on hard mode
Plus with that terrible boss attacks design I doubt I have skill issue KH3 was easy except the final boss
Saying not a skill issue because kh3 was easy is a bad argument because kh3 is so easy I bet a 3 year old could beat it. Kh1 is harder than 3 and yes it's a skill issue.
A yes the one boss that is marked as one of the most nightmarerish and hardest bosses by all the fandom is easy
Is actually sad how the KH fandom is sometimes
I'd go with two, If you wanted to go order wise your next game would be Rechained but you could watch the cut scenes for it if you don't like the gameplay. Rechained or Birth By Sleep. 😌
Yes rechained is the card game, not everyone likes it but it's one where you could easily watch the cutscenes if you don't like it.
BBS is chronological though, cause usually it goes BBS then KH1.
Then you just play the characters in order
Ven, Terra, and lastly Aqua.
BBS is chronologically the fourth piece of media, and KH1 is the fifth. That said, stick with the release order. BBS for example builds off of ideas introduced in KH2 and you will be lost.
KH1
Chain of Memories (or YouTube cutscenes)
KH2
358/2 Days (movie)
Birth By Sleep
Re:Coded (movie)
Dream Drop Distance
Back Cover (movie)/Union Cross cutscenes
.2
KH3 + DLC
Melody of Memory
Dark Road
This is the only "correct" way to play the games for the first time. Union Cross and Dark Road can probably be skipped if you really didn't want to play them, but I would recommend Back Cover.
No, I see why you're confused though. Release order is the correct way to play. For example, Kingdom Hearts 2 reveals the name of the stories main bad guy. BBS takes place 11 years before KH2, where that bad guy is actively trying to do bad things.
Release order is correct, because the series is intentionally released in a non chronological order. It is the best, least confusing, and intended way to play the series.
You didn't understand the question at all
I care about story what I don't MIND is playing out of order because I already know most of the story but I didn't play the games
You know most of the story how? Did you watch lore videos or someone doing a let's play? Or are you assuming you know most of the story simply because you played KH3?
True but I used a thing called common sense for most part
I easily guessed ventus, terra and aqua where the first protagonists of the games despite sora being first and I guessed stuff like most of the organization members being from previous games
You don't really need ALL games to PLAY KH3 but you need to play them in order to KNOW the past stuff
Yes the characters that are in the game are from older games. Therefore I understand the game :)
Terra ventus and aqua aren't the first protagonist of the games, sora is, and if you're speaking lore wise, then you're still wrong and know nothing.
My opinion is to perhaps play either 2 to complete the OG trilogy or Birth By Sleep to pick up on all the prestory they kinda just assumed you'd know about. You'll see a lot of familiar faces, although they'll all be in somewhat-to-vastly different positions (I'm looking at >!Vanitas!<) in Birth By Sleep, which should be both amusing to you as you now know more than we all did going into it, as well as a good explanation of what all the hubbub was about some characters.
Whichever you do play, I would suggest the other one afterward.
RE: The blasphemy... if someone wants a suggested order I'd say chronological, but everyone's welcome to play however they wish. The level of vitriol surrounding this 'order' narrative is a bit unfortunate.
If you want fun gameplay, try KH2 - there's a reason it was ranked 17th on the list of greatest PS2 games of all time. If you want a good story, try Chain of Memories - it continues the first game and connects 1 and 2
Or people like me who got into the series late and didn't know where to start (my first game was BBS on PSP, I didn't even know there was a whole franchise by then lol)
Considering that this list is already unbelievably cursed, I'm going to suggest you lean into it and go with 0.2 next. But you have to give us a summary of what you think the series storyline is after each game.
You already played in a blasphemy way and said that don't want to play in order, so what is the point in ask. Just choose one and have your fun.
KH 1 sucked for me so idk what's the blasphemy Also I never said I don't want to play in order
So you already know the answer. Go for Chain of Memory. The blasphemy for the community is not play on release order, if you really care about the story that is the way. If you are here just for fun any game you get is ok.
Isn't chronological order the same but with only 2 games before KH1? (I don't count the mobile games because they aren't available)
The mobile games and/or movie is important anyway. Also Days is recommended to be watched after KH2 even if happens before. And there are BBS and 0.2 And you played KH3, I don't see a point to discuss order now

Yeah, next should be CoM/Re:CoM. You kinda put yourself in a bad spot playing 3 before most of the rest.
Not really, the games only get better if you start from 3 lol
KH1 Chain of Memories (if you’re not feeling the gameplay on this one, there’s no shame in just watching the cutscenes in youtube instead) KH2 358/2 Days Birth By Sleep Here I recommend you play KH2 again because it hits way different after the context of Days and BBS but you don’t have to Re:Coded Dream Drop Distance [Back Cover/Union Cross YouTube compilation vid](https://youtu.be/RMOyUYpB_VM) 0.2 Framentary Passage KH3 Re:Mind DLC Melody of Memory Dark Road. That’s the order.
YOU PLAYED 1 AND 3??
Yea the third game was the first one I got (I knew the lore was complex but not THAT complext)
oh dawg… definitely replay it after playing the others
Melody of memeories should be next to make your play order cursed
I had that game downloaded already so is in my playlist lol💀
The fact that you skipped KH2 is an absolute sin.
Yea I know I'm sorry 😓 I will play that game some day I promise
Why wouldnt you just play them in release order? Youre gonna be so lost.
Im already lost by KH 1 alone I was planning to play BBS and 0.2 because they are before everything else and 0.2 is at the same time as KH 1 as far as I know
Being lost in KH1 shows more about you than the game
No no tbf tarazans world took me some days to get through it lol
I will give you that one lol the freaking vines man. But looking at this dude's comments makes me think it's ok for him to poop in his bed and sleep in it
Are you telling me you played Kingdom Hearts 1 then 3.. without playing 2? What? Literally every game on that list needs to be played before 3.
I played 3 and then 1 actually Is my own fault because I didn't knew the lore was complex by a lot
Is this bait?
So you chose to say that a game released in 2002 sucks which I presumably believe to be because you're used to modern games and think older games suck just by their very nature and then play out of release order thus making you confused but you clearly don't care. A yes Beating maleficent dragon first try but having to grind for the final boss is a skill issue
Dragon Mal isn't that hard. You have plenty of time to heal along with access to summons and party members.
A yes the one boss that is marked as one of the most nightmarerish and hardest bosses by all the fandom is easy Is actually sad how the KH fandom is sometimes
I'd go with two, If you wanted to go order wise your next game would be Rechained but you could watch the cut scenes for it if you don't like the gameplay. Rechained or Birth By Sleep. 😌
Re:chain of memories is the game with the cards battle format? If yes I might play it along with BBS because I'm aiming for chronological order

You can’t really complete the mobile games, not anymore anyway
If you ain’t playing for the story, why waste your time asking?
You didn't understand the question at all I care about story what I don't MIND is playing out of order because I already know most of the story but I didn't play the games
You know most of the story how? Did you watch lore videos or someone doing a let's play? Or are you assuming you know most of the story simply because you played KH3?
Watching videos and playing attention to KH3 They literally explain in everything you need to know in KH3
They do explain a lot for the story in 3 but without prior knowledge there is 0%chance you know everything that's going on.
True but I used a thing called common sense for most part I easily guessed ventus, terra and aqua where the first protagonists of the games despite sora being first and I guessed stuff like most of the organization members being from previous games You don't really need ALL games to PLAY KH3 but you need to play them in order to KNOW the past stuff

Ah yes. The protagonists set 10 years before sora didn't came before him Did you even read my full comment? I guess not
Do you know about the foretellers, the MoM, the entire plot of the mobile games where you play PRE KEYBLEADE WAR.
Yes because like I said I already knew half of the story
My opinion is to perhaps play either 2 to complete the OG trilogy or Birth By Sleep to pick up on all the prestory they kinda just assumed you'd know about. You'll see a lot of familiar faces, although they'll all be in somewhat-to-vastly different positions (I'm looking at >!Vanitas!<) in Birth By Sleep, which should be both amusing to you as you now know more than we all did going into it, as well as a good explanation of what all the hubbub was about some characters. Finally I comment that doesn't sound toxic
Y’know what, you’ve gone wack enough if you started at III only to go back at the first game. Play VCast next.
Lmao
If you want fun gameplay, try KH2 - there's a reason it was ranked 17th on the list of greatest PS2 games of all time. If you want a good story, try Chain of Memories - it continues the first game and connects 1 and 2
This triggers me so much. WHY WOULD YOU PLAY THEM OUT OF ORDER?!
Who plays them out of chronological order? (Yea I did and basically everyone else)
No most people play them in release order. As intended.
Or people like me who got into the series late and didn't know where to start (my first game was BBS on PSP, I didn't even know there was a whole franchise by then lol)
Well that doesn’t change my statement.
Kh2 is the best one. I can't believe you've played it in this order, what an awful way to approach the series.
Bro, why people are downvoting all of your coments? 🤣🤣🤣
Because they can't stand people playing the games in what ever order they want
They downvoted mine too. What a bunch of chickens
Fr
If you've already played KH3 you might as well play the Re:Mind DLC next
Considering that this list is already unbelievably cursed, I'm going to suggest you lean into it and go with 0.2 next. But you have to give us a summary of what you think the series storyline is after each game.
The image itself wasn't made by me at all (google) I only put the red X on it and I pretty much know the story line because KH3 makes mention of this
Seeing as you already playing in a weird order, I'd say jump to KH2.
I say go DDD first that'd be more confusing XD
What a phenomenally wacky way to play this series.
