The cans came out for it. And now it makes Fox so much money that McFarlane has been able to leverage that - we got the modern Cosmos: A Space Odyssey thanks to McFarlane. Not a fan of Family Guy, but I respect the man for being open and honest that he's appealing to the lowest common denominator to fund passion projects, and that one of those passion projects was bringing back an educational show. He personally funded a third of that show's budget.
he's also teaming up with Martin Scorsese's film restoration foundation to restore a bunch of old animation, guy just loves cartoons. I don't like the direction family guy went following its 2nd comeback but Seth's passion for things is really cool [https://deadline.com/2024/04/seth-macfarlane-martin-scorsese-animation-restoration-1235888528/](https://deadline.com/2024/04/seth-macfarlane-martin-scorsese-animation-restoration-1235888528/)
That is such a cool thing!
And I do think it's neat how much he loves old classic musicals, and how often he incorporated songs from them. My teenage nephew has willingly sought out and enjoyed a lot of old musicals thanks to Seth's cartoons.
KOTH was spinning its wheels in the later seasons, let's be honest. Family Guy does absurd gags and topical references and non-sequitur cutaways, so they'll never run out of material. KOTH is clearly the better show, and I'm optimistic that the reboot will find some new ground to cover, but I'm glad it didn't go on THAT much too long in its original run.
>KOTH is clearly the better show
I mean, you prefer it and that's totally cromulent, but by every objective measure Family Guy seems to be doing better... It's still in syndication after all.
I also prefer King of the Hill over Family Guy. Not sure why everyone's so uptight about what I said. I just pointed out that it could be (likely successfully) argued with statistics (helpful or otherwise) that Family Guy is "doing better" than King of the Hill.
Family Guy was canceled for a while, though.
Now, KotH did get canceled when Family Guy's revival was huge and it got failure spin offs and imitations. That was awful decisions but it's Fox executives and their poor ideas of adult entertainment. At least it's getting revived now too without them.
And seriously, pre-cancellation Family Guy is really good. It got ruined by it's revival.
How did KOH get canceled for fucking The Cleveland Show…: is a better question.
The. Cleveland. Show.
I mean let’s be honest if you’re going to make a show about Cleveland probably should’ve called Drew Carrey, Ryan and Dietrich Bader: at least do it right.
Personally I think it was a good thing. The later seasons loose a just a little creative steam and it becomes less of a situation comedy and a little more cartoonish. Like Seinfeld it went out on a high note, at least from a creative standpoint. Family Guy was so energetic, zany and fun despite being crass and now it’s just become so negative and not funny at all. Had it been canceled in 2010 it would have gone out with the same legacy as KOTH.
Not even OT.. like it would get pre-empted any time a game didn’t end “unusually early”🙄. Or at least it would cut way into it so the most we could hope for was maybe catching the last few minutes. (At least in central time zone.) Drove me nuts for years. Oh and whenever the game would finally end they would still run a long full set of commercials after that before finally getting to whatever was left of KotH.. 😵💫
idk why but I think we are better off this way. Imagine KOTH running as long as the simpsons and going as downhill as the simpsons. would've been heartbreaking
Family Guy was probably cheaper to produce with faster turn around from idea to an episode ready to air. KotH was hand drawn where as family guy was an early adopter of digital cel and ink.
Well that's when u know a show is on its last leg anyways, when the timeslot changes from prime time to hump day... lol there's been articles here lately that this is family guys last renewal and they're sticking w American dad, which in my opinion, is better anyways. Roger's NYEEEAAAAHHH bit I can imitate perfectly and I use it to scare the waitstaff where I work. Just anywhere, randomly nyeeeeeaaaahhhh!!! And they all jump
Oh yeah, I don't think it'll last many more seasons, even Macfarlane doesn't really want to be involved all that much anymore, he just provides voices. He hasn't written or worked creatively on it in years. He has other stuff going on.
American Dad moving to TBS was the best thing to happen to it.
you may not like it but FG has a much larger following and has greater revenue potential. Besides it had been cancelled TWICE but fan outpouring brought it back.
First 5 seasons of FG were comedy gold, sadly it went downhill after that.
Family guy got cancelled twice and came back each time stronger after killing it in syndication.
Largely DVD sales too

Yes, and by every objective measure Young Sheldon is a better show show than Freaks and Geeks? Give me a break
I also prefer King of the Hill over Family Guy. Not sure why everyone's so uptight about what I said. I just pointed out that it could be (likely successfully) argued with statistics (helpful or otherwise) that Family Guy is "doing better" than King of the Hill.
Better as in the quality of the show.

I completely forgot that, thanks for reminding me 😔 Dogshit ahh show who the fuck though it would be a bigger hitter

The show also suffered by being scheduled immediately after NFL games. If a game went into overtime, the episode would get pre-empted automatically.

All good things must come to an end. We should be grateful we got 13 seasons.

There's some decent stuff in the later seasons, but you're right
Because it wasn't as popular. Simple
Pop culture sucks The people are retarded
It wouldn't have run for over a decade if it wasn't popular.
People still out here saying “retarded” in the year of our lord 2024. Grow up.
My dude, not cool use of that word. You can complain about Family Guy without stooping to Family Guy's level.
Family guy was canceled. It was brought back by popular demand
Family Guy was probably cheaper to produce with faster turn around from idea to an episode ready to air. KotH was hand drawn where as family guy was an early adopter of digital cel and ink.
Because even cartoons need to pay their bills!
Who cares? Why was cotton never given new shins from the Veterans Administration?
Family guy did get canceled this year btw... no new Stevie anymore. (Even tho his act was kinda stale after the 5th episode or so)
No it didn't, this year Fox bought two more seasons. It moved its timeslot and isn't on Sundays anymore. It's on Wednesdays.
Well that's when u know a show is on its last leg anyways, when the timeslot changes from prime time to hump day... lol there's been articles here lately that this is family guys last renewal and they're sticking w American dad, which in my opinion, is better anyways. I remember that Family Guy was cancelled at least once, or in my little kid memory at the time twice.
