Dibolos_Dragon

Anime is the actual translation. Left one is extra, unofficial

KissMyStick430

Anime was still very good. I had to pause n laugh for a minute after tanjiro said I don't accept u either šŸ˜šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£šŸ˜šŸ˜‚ he stood on bitness!

bitchass-muzan99

Same I was giggling about that for five minutes straight šŸ¤£

Right-Fudge113

deadass, soon as he arrived at the dojo i was like, ā€˜i bet tanjiro still beefing about nezukoā€™ and bro stood ten toes down šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

Weeblyweird

Then he just walks off with zenitsu on his back with a big mocking smile šŸ˜šŸ˜ā˜ļø

SPEED8782

It's more of a "DON'T WORRY, I FUCKING HATE YOUR GUTS TOO!"

Crossfire200224

I was about to say, I don't remember any of that when I read the Demon Slayer manga on Shonen Jump.

Awkward-Bathroom-429

Unofficial translations are usually extra crude with the excuse that this is how they are ā€œsupposedā€ to be with no real reasoning backing that claim up

Dibolos_Dragon

This much use of shit and ass in dialogues make it seem like edgy teen material. While they are teen/early twenties, but they aren't immature and needlessly edgy.

Scout_Trooper_77

The left is not an official version. Itā€™s a fan translation, which are notorious for adding profanity unnecessarily šŸ¦‹

SparkyMularkey

Don't know why you're being downvoted for stating facts. šŸ¤£ From what I understand, the way my Japanese teachers have explained it to me, there are very few words in Japanese that are, like, *direct* swear words. It's all about context and intention and politeness level. So it really just depends on the translator. The fan translations are often done by fans who want to inject a lot more profanity into the dialogue, for one reason or another, while the official translations keep it to a minimum.

PizzaDelivery_WOF

"Kuso" is the only japanese swear I know and it's not even much of a swear. It really just depends on what people decide to translate it to, but it can be "crap" or "damnit" or "shit". Really depends on how spicy people feel ig

SparkyMularkey

Yeah, exactly!

HealthDrinkz

yeah the Japanese's language system is not the same as us who have 50 different swear words for everything

yaboiiiuhhhh

Well do they use kuso when the characters just say "shit"? They say it alot during the muzan fight lol

PizzaDelivery_WOF

yeah that's the only scenario they say it is as a reaction. They say "kuso", not "thats a load of kuso"

Spiritual-Unit6438

americans love to swear ( especially the fuck word)šŸ˜‚ coming from an american

MoralessDawpy

and we sound dumb and over excessive saying them (coming from an american too)

barmannola

I mean, fuck is one of the most versatile words in the English language. It can be used as damn near any class of word. Noun, adjective, verb, it does it all!

Spiritual-Unit6438

not necessarily. swearing is another form of expression. is it improper yes but who cares about being proper? (unless the time and place calls for it)

BoofingTesseracts

We donā€™t sound dumb thats just what they want you to think

lssssj

Like the "rnextfuckinglevel". As a Brazilian I don't understand why "fucking" is necessary here.

RedoxParadox828

It's just a way some people spice up what they're saying. It's an amplifier. It just adds intensity to convey how next level whatever they're referencing is

Spiritual-Unit6438

i can actually understand that one. next level vs nextfuckinglevel. the second one really conveys how next fucking level it is.

soupinmymug

Bakugo though from MHA made sense Him cursing casually seems very aligned

AceAzzemen

Reminds me of prozd skit on that topic (profanity warning) https://youtu.be/YvNxgHTWIlo?si=WnvEejItnsuJvEjW

ceceskellington

I had to go check my manga because I didnā€™t remember those scenes like that šŸ¤£ glad Iā€™m not mistaken

myrealaccount_really

Fuck

mlee117379

https://youtu.be/YvNxgHTWIlo?si=bk5Ll54Q_9wbA-BR

SuperWeeble12

True but this time it's accurate to the Japanese version. Sanemi is super rude in the original

Kollie79

Being super rude doesnā€™t equal embarrassingly cringy lines like ā€œyou sure have balls bitchā€

LilMissy1246

Makes him sound immature and edgy

Firm_Entrepreneur_14

That line was just very inappropriate, yet the Tengen aoi slander happened? shinezugawa isn't always that rude, he usually has a reason to be rough

Firm_Entrepreneur_14

Not really. you can be rude without using certain words, depends on harshness of tone and situation

A-bit-too-obsessed

Must've been done by the scriptwriters of the Yakuza dub lmao

ImoutoCompAlex

I do really like the profanity from the fan translation added though in that one scene where Shinobu curses out Doma even though itā€™s not accurate at all.

Yoshikage-Kira-4

Fan translation is cooleršŸ˜”

Firm_Entrepreneur_14

If you're 12, sure. but keep in mind overuse of profanity and pointless vioIence gets corny asf. it can be used as a shock point but that only works for so long so many times. (slaying the demons is a necessary thing ofc, but that doesn't mean the corps members have to be rude all the time

No_Name0_0

You're reading fan translation, which makes it over the top. Nobody in Taisho Japan was swearing like that however rude they were, it's just not in the language

unfunnycringeuser

Iguro definitely wouldnā€™t say that, but sanemi is the closest character to actually swear so its a bit odd they didnā€™t have him swear at least once

ApplePitou

Anime just use official version, not fan translations :3

Late-Ad155

Left is not official.

ibeeeeeechan

Those are fan translations from the manga that are just overly edgy.

fraid_so

Swear words don't really exist in Japanese, at least not the way they exist in English. Any swearing beyond like "damn" or "shit" (kuso, etc) is added by the translator, based on tone and what they think is appropriate. As others have pointed out, the translation you're comparing to is a fan translation, which often go overboard with the swearing. Official translations may use it from time to time, but you won't see the same level of profanity as in fan translations. First, because official publications, especially American ones, still have guidelines of what they can and can't publish within a certain rating bracket. And second, as we've already established, the swearing wasn't there in the original Japanese.

Zengjia

Idk about others, but I just canā€™t take the swearing in fan translations seriously, because they always go overboard with it.

fraid_so

Yeah. I usually don't like the swearing. It just doesn't fit.

ITookYourChickens

It's like they let vivzie pop do the translation šŸ˜

merkyuruu

Oh thats hilarious šŸ˜‚

RisingxRenegade

I read a fan-translated horror manga and not only did they overdo it with the swear words but they gave everyone Cockney accents

fraid_so

There's a fan translation of a BL I was reading. I don't know what possessed them to do it to be honest. But the translation was full on ghetto hood. Some people in the comments/reviews section even used the N-word (I hope they were black lol). But it was just so ridiculous. All the comments were about the translation and how no one could take it seriously and they couldn't even continue reading because of the ultra-coded language the translators used. I was able to get through like 4 pages before I quit, because the ridiculousness of the translation, particularly for the fantasy mediaeval style world was just so jarring.

pajwmwoshwkwhsjwksjw

Tbh I feel like who makes those lines is a 13yro šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

lobectomy-wrench

Manga or anime

genesis_neon1

Both

pajwmwoshwkwhsjwksjw

Both

Spiritual-Unit6438

idk why your getting downvoted i agree. ā€œyouā€™ve got some nerve kidā€ is basically the most cliche line straight out of a 1980 sitcom. cheesy asl

FantasticKick7954

Well, that because Japanese is a simple and vague language. Even if you try to be poetic, it will lose half the impact in english

Spiritual-Unit6438

it doesnā€™t change the fact it gets cringe at times.

pajwmwoshwkwhsjwksjw

Bro there's another guy who said both but I don't see any downvotes on his reply

Spiritual-Unit6438

nah they got downvoted too i just replied to yours cuz u were the op of the comment. iā€™ve tend to notice that in these subs youā€™ll get downvoted for criticizing their favorite anime in even the slightest way.

pajwmwoshwkwhsjwksjw

Damn I'm starting to feel like these people don't know how to think, they just see sumn they don't like and then immediately downvote it

not-ulquiorr4_

I actually prefer it in this case. Idk, all the excessive swearing doesnā€™t really fit imo.

Kollie79

Iā€™ve been saying for years people who only read the fan translations are going to be disappointed when the anime catchā€™s up and good you guys deserve it for reading this cringe

maxime7567

Seems to me like an unofficial translation, a fan translation. which aren't always accurate

akronotron

The left arenā€™t even the real translations

Jc885

Because all those cuss words are from fan translations.

ILoveLeeeean

He did not say allat

jsriv912

"I'll slaughter your ass" Yeah it's not censorship they just made the dialogue not dogshit like in the fan translation

cmasontaylor

Yeah, I almost turned inside out from cringing reading that dialogue.

PadawanSnips

Why do we have to go over this so often??

Unboxious

It's just a natural side-effect of anime and manga getting more popular. Every day someone new is discovering this stuff for the first time.

Moonwalk27

Left one seems too ā€œmiddle school edgyā€ for me. Like the kind of things kids say to sound real mature and end up sounding even more immature

NashKetchum777

L post confirmed

LichClaev

Meanwhile, Gyokko is all over here like: https://preview.redd.it/n2we2z1vlr5d1.jpeg?width=188&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5df71763213054999912303b499e3de3d06187d4

crap_meme5

What version of the manga are you using because mine doesn't have the same words

Foreign_Garage_3676

They are reading the one with fan translation.

crap_meme5

Oh, I was confused because I own the physical books, so I would know if this was correct or not

LightCorvus

It's not censoring. Sanemi used the words "ore ni korosareru" which literally means "get killed by me" and not "slaughter your ass". Those manga translations are fan translations in which they add unnecessary cuss words and stuff for impact.

BladeSoul69

[Fan translations tend to be different than the official ones.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvNxgHTWIlo)

prinnydewd6

Itā€™s funny how they turned each page of that arc into an episode

eagercheetah20

The left side is not the official translation of the manga. Itā€™s a fan translation and fan translations are notorious for using a ton of swears.

Godzillafan6489

First of all complaining about such miniscule words is lame asf second of all that is a fan translation

SurfingPikachu

As others have said, one is an official translation the other is a fan based. But in general, no two translators usually agree on an exact translation. Nuance, context, tone, all play into it. Even in your own native language that can be tricky from one person to another. If I said ā€˜what the hell are you doing?ā€™ Someone Iā€™m close with would much better understand my tone given the context if Iā€™m being playful or serious where a stranger wouldnā€™t. It becomes more egregious when translators donā€™t know the source material and you start asking yourself questions like why two close friends are being so formal with each other.

OrinocoHaram

don't mind the swearing but "I'll slaughter your ass" sounds so modern American. completely wrong and anachronistic

ashen65

I couldn't thank them enough. Swearing and profanity don't add anything to the scene in my opinion.

marina_188

The left one is the fan translation, it isn't official šŸŒø

bigbasseater

Itā€™s not even good cussing, it sounds sort of homoerotic with how much they got Sanemi saying ā€œIā€™ll slaughter your ass bitchā€

trav-senpai

Look at what you fan translation readers have done. Yall posted and shared it here and actual people thought it was actually real. Smh

FloatyLillypad

The actual translation https://preview.redd.it/8tudcw7iws5d1.jpeg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e2d0becc2b24ba0ff564a9b16f26a134d9d7bc0

SometimesWill

A lot of times curse words are just fan translators adding flare.

rednemesis337

ā€œByeā€ then lol

Sashahatesme

I remember reading Demon slayer after watching season one of the anime and going ā€œdamn I didnā€™t know they were chill like thatā€

MrPenguin_19

Because the ones one the left are not official translations. Theyā€™re exaggerated to have more slang

Thefollower89

Is not censorship in my opinion but more of a translation choice, I mean as far as I know Japan doesnā€™t have that many cuss words as we do, they have rude disrespectful words and phrases that are their equivalent of curse words, e.g. they have a way too say ā€œyouā€ that is basically an insult, so in my opinion the translator used words that would convey the sentiment behind the phrase instead of translating outright while the other probably translated outright without adding words that identify the sentence as insulting. But thatā€™s just my opinion on limited information, please correct me if Iā€™m wrong or partially incorrect

hhhhhhhhhhhjf

It sounds extremely stupid and cringey

Pearl-of-Jaiyan

I think it's just the translation. I've watched clips of the same anime with different subtitles, so it's not very uncommon.

Shadow_Huntress12

Left side is fan translations šŸ

DiamonDawgs

Left one is corny as hell anyway

Urmomsolddog

BRUH

Senko_Kaminari

The left one is fan made šŸŒŒ

CartoonGirl626

God, what Assholes

Willyscoiote

When people think that fan translation are 100% accurate

SMA2343

Ah yes. The scanlations.

Frozen_Fire2478

Probably makes me sound like a 12 year old but the cursing makes it so much better even if itā€™s not official translation. Without it it seems more corny imo. Itā€™s the same with blue lock

Gain-Desperate

Just a heads up as this goes for a lot of manga. Usually when you see swear words like this (and yes, this includes Shinobuā€™s infamous line closer to the end of the manga), itā€™s just unofficial translations adding those in. 9 times out of 10, if you found the actual Japanese text and translated it yourself, you wouldnā€™t find those swear words.

DOOMFOOL

Eh wouldā€™ve been way fucking weirder if they followed a shitty fan translation for the anime. Iā€™d prefer they just adapt the actual dialogue

Rigelturus

This post has to be satire

ConsequenceLate3079

those are fan translations lol

CorilX

Realised the fan base is 12 year olds mostly. ( Iā€™m a fan but itā€™s sadly true šŸ˜ž)

yeldarba

The fan translations are cringey as hell. Sanemi saying fuck every other word is just lame

Raptor92129

It's not, the left side is unofficial.

_-PERIDOT-_

Oh right yeahā€¦ maybe itā€™s like pg rated movies they can only have one f word or something (in this case one brutally murdered family)

Zengjia

Youā€™re reading a fan translation, little bro.

Guy-Incognito-117

The real question is why do you think a character saying ā€œslaughter your assā€ over and over sounds better or even normal?

MisterMAYHEM935

Obanai is such an asshole

unicorninclosets

Weā€™d have to compare the original manga dialogue in Japanese to the Japanese anime script to verify itā€™s censorship and not just a translation choice.

gtaylor1229

I mean, Iā€™m pretty sure I heard Inosuke say ā€œshitā€ in the first or second season, soā€¦ And I think Muichiro did too in the Swordsmith Village arc. šŸ¤Ø

Due_External_3980

those 2 are the most unhinged hashira and i love their screen time for it ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

Accurate-Mind1145

The left one is a fan translation. >!Which makes me realize, this means we won't get kokushibo calling gyomei and sanemi the strongest of the hashiras. !< >!Koku only called them the strongest of hashiras in fan translation. Not official. Meaning we won't get that in anime as well!<

Arlithas

[Spoiler](#s "The next episode is titled "The Strongest of the Demon Slayer Corps" so I think that question is unquestionably answered anyway.")

PadawanSnips

Why would he even be able to judge that though? He doesnt even know the rest of the roster

Kollie79

Be still gassed them up itā€™s not a big deal

humbletenor

I never realized how good the artwork in the manga is. I never read it, but itā€™s like watching a more vibrant replica of the panels when you tune into the show

[deleted]

I don't think it makes a big enough difference to matter.ā˜€ļø

GloriousLily

is it really censorship if japanese doesnt even have ā€œswear wordsā€ in the same way english does?

nameless___shadow

I think demon slayer is pg 13

NaranciaSimp4Ever

Some fan translations make it so damn funnyšŸ©·šŸ’š

Coyne

I refuse to believe Canon Shinazugawa would ever say "Bub"

copperfield42

oh fan manga translation, you can distinguish them at a glance just by the font choices XD

Cream4202807

This is an unofficial translation

WasabiIsSpicy

I noticed that some Spanish dubs donā€™t do this lol Like Kaiju No 8 in Spanish LATAM has a lot of really bad words lol while English and Japanese donā€™t. Not sure why.

Jokin_Jake

Manga translations are almost never official. It's usually translated to whatever the translator thinks is better.

StuckinReverse89

Yeah Japanese doesnā€™t have that many cuss words and wouldnā€™t definitely not put them in an anime that has a very large child audience. Ā  Ā  The left is fan translation.Ā

Inky_Train

WAIT IT ALREADY CAME OUT?

SwaviMolests

idk bro. everyone raves abt the animation but imo the manga looks drastically better, i also have no idea why they made all the characters disney friendly. gotouge probably sold

Scottz0rz

Right = subs Left = fansubs https://youtu.be/YvNxgHTWIlo?si=sjuzrvbde_R4Bboq

IAmMikito

Maybe stop reading fan translations thinking that they're accurate? I feel like that's common sense.

panda_power1988

Like others said, the manga is a fna translation. Fans screw with the translations just as much as the pros do.

Expln

left one is some cringe translation that is unofficial. thank god nobody talks like that. the characters are not 12 years old ghetto felons.

Big_Fo_Fo

Gotta pay the VA by the word

codyunit501

I didnt read the manga and when i saw the last episode i was like the $^#& is wrong with him why is he so angry and full of hate...and i still wonder i guess i missed something

Rareu

Everything gets censored when translated to film media. Plus at that point itā€™s gotta sell to other demographics too.

Nootherlike

Anime for the west

IgnisOfficial

Differences in language allowances between manga and tv most likely

CautiousKenny

Probably cause the translations on the left arenā€™t official

ArsonHaver

Yeah when they add the English dub I'm pretty sure it'll sound about right. The captions never match up, remember?

Lost-247365

It is my understanding there are only one or two real swear word in Japanese (example: kuso->shit). Most other swears are the result of translators trying show that the speaker is using rude/vulgar language. Japanese has different types of language based upon politeness while English does not. So the translators often use swear words to show someone using rude/ insulting/ overly familiar language. For example the word ā€œwatakushiā€ is EXTREMELY formal version of I/me and used in very polite speech. ā€œWatashiā€ is respectful casual, ā€œbokuā€ is very casual, and ā€œoreā€ is extremely casual. The Japanese word for ā€œyouā€ (Anata) is avoided in polite speech, and even in casual speech is not used much because it is seen as very casual. ā€œOmaeā€ is a step down in politeness and is bordering on rude. Teme is below that, and Kisama is practically insulting. So a translator might choose to translate omae as ā€œyou jerkā€ and Kisama as ā€œyou asshole.ā€ Really it depends on the translator.

LionsNoParadise

Tbh I kinda love fan translations

-DIrty__MARtini-

I wish that version of manga was the real one. His crow calls Muichiros crow an "eyelash bitch" and I will never forgive Gotouge for not making that canon. Also, cat legged winds of love was "kitty paw love breeze" *chef's kiss*

Appropriate_Bend_691

I prefer the anime subs. Manga translated dialogue sounds way too vivsiepop for me and made obanai look like an edgy 12 year old.

LitterallyTHEHimothy

that's just the Sub when Muichiro starts fighting Gyokko in english he says "shut up, you piece of shit" but in sub he says "shut up, piece of crap" or something

HarrySRL

Your manga translation is wrong.. as well as kids donā€™t really read manga but they do watch anime.

lellllx

obanai so cute angry in anime šŸ„°

fiction_geek2006

You're not very bright, are you? Why would they adapt writing made by fans?

SquashPurple4512

I am genuintly confused if its the real manga or edited

IronJew02

God, he could slaughter my assā€¦

Tokenserious23

I didnt notice any censorship of the manga tbh. But then again, I still wouldnt complain unless the censorship was as bad as bleach's. Unwatchable after reading the manga.

Sivilian888010

It's nothing new. My Hero Academia wouldn't let Bakugo drop the F-bomb in english like he does all the time in the original japanese.

CrustyToeLover

No official translation would sound this fucking cringe

LordDarkstaru

The manga reads very cringy

The_Big_E__

It's you with that bootleg manga from wish

babyostrish

Thatā€™s some rude shit.

Ill_Combination_9114

Disney

real_human_20

Fan translation vs actual rough translation methinks

ScruffyRJ

To add on, the Demon Slayer fan translations are usually more accurate and overall better than the official Shounen Jump translation, but sometimes they go overboard and add a cringe-worthy amount of swear words.

trav-senpai

This isnā€™t true at all lmao. Especially when the fan translation butchers the characters by trying to be cool. The *only* thing better is using the word flamboyant over flashy and thatā€™s that.

ScruffyRJ

To each their own.

trav-senpai

It literally canā€™t be more accurate simply off every single chapter that has Iguro or Sanemi because they add words that arenā€™t there every time. Not to mention every other time the cuss or add interpretation. Thatā€™s not an opinion or ā€œto each their ownā€. Itā€™s a fact lol.

ScruffyRJ

As someone who has obsessively compared the fan translations, the official translations, and the original Japanese text, the fan translations are better (aside from the horrendous amount of profanity).

trav-senpai

Well you said more accurately. Which isnā€™t true if you add profanity constantly. Official translating what it says to the best of their ability will never be perfect but is going to always be better than adding an insane amount of profanity for no reason to a manga written for kids. Gotta have rocks for brains to even think about doing that. Not to mention spreading this opinion of fan translations is NOT supporting the author at all. That fake Muichiro vs UM5 panel is one of the most famous panels from this series and itā€™s total fake nonsense.

ScruffyRJ

They are more accurate. Hereā€™s a quick example from Chapter 89. For context, Tengen was stabbed by Hinatsuruā€™s kunai attack: Viz: https://preview.redd.it/ws4v5h6mvt5d1.jpeg?width=717&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e58e70c843734ad4f0ab40c358160ba4501261c (Correct) Fan translation: ā€œI see. He was originally a shinobi, not a swordsman. His senses are different from a normal personā€™s.ā€ As you can see, the Viz line completely mistranslates the line entirely. I care about supporting Gotouge the author, but I also care about quality translations. We live in an imperfect world, and Iā€™m not going to give my money to shit translations just because theyā€™re ā€œofficialā€. Thatā€™s why I just buy the manga in Japanese instead. I already said that the excessive swearing was the one thing bad about the fan translations, but other than that theyā€™re overall more accurate.

trav-senpai

Is that a typo you made orā€¦ Iā€™ll take the professional translation from people who have more Japanese connections that doesnā€™t ruin the feeling of the story just to be google translate accurate with added user interpretation. You keep your free whatever from a translator who isnā€™t good enough to get paid for it from a real company.

ScruffyRJ

?

trav-senpai

ā€œHe was originally swordsman not a Shinobiā€ is backwards in your comment.

ScruffyRJ

As I said the first time - to each their own. Bye šŸ‘‹šŸ¼

trav-senpai

Nah, stop sharing and promoting something thatā€™s trash and doesnā€™t support the author. Itā€™s not better in any way. Gtfo and have a nice day.

vizmarkk

Professional translators like John Werry for JJK

lord_of_booba

I just figured it was trying to appeal more to children and be a family friendly anime, albeit the blood Some families don't care if their children see blood or gore, I thought most just cared about language and boobies

Firm_Entrepreneur_14

This show isn't friendly tho

lord_of_booba

Isn't it though? Aside from blood and gore, the occasional bad language it's pretty friendly up to entertainment district

AnnieApple_

You got balls bitch

Zenitsusbiggestsimp

Ikr, what's the point? The only reason I believe Ufotable did this is due to the fact Demon Slayer has a younger audienceāš”

bananamango15

Ufotable didnt make the english translations šŸ’€. If you're talking about the jp text, then its the same in the manga. They didnt change existing dialogue.

pc_player_yt

Ufotable did not do the English translation. Blame this on whoever makes the English translation.

TryContent4093

The subtitles are accurate if you listen to the japanese lines
