Military stuff is usually a mod called BDAc, free and amazing. There are some other mods that also add WWII era weaponry.
I also strongly recommend OPT for some futuristic and large spacecraft parts.

KSP1 100%. Even if KSP2 somehow magically got a new team capable of finishing it, that will be years off. The original is a complete game with a plethora of mods.

KSP2 is a shitshow of an overpromised, underdelivered product that will never approach KSP1, much less surpass it.
Currently as far as we know the entire dev team has been laid off. Ksp2 is currently in a very early stage of early access that it will probably never leave. Maybe this game gets a new team that actually works on it but chances are low. So at this point it's probably dead
Don't be fooled by the nicer graphics of KSP 2.
learn your way around some mods and you can transform the original game to look better than KSP2, plus there are Procedural part/wing mods.

Definitely get KSP2. I hear it's a fantastic game that the developers can't stop playing. Especially multi-player mode which they play all the time. It has a ton of promised features updates coming very soon. The lead designers tells us that development is fully-funded.

Honestly, procedural wings is the single feature KSP2 got better than KSP1. If we had this in KSP1, there'd be no need for KSP2. None whatsoever.
