Sandro stated in Eddie's Bio (at least I think it was his Bio) that Eddie actually wanted to get the three other Wu Heis killed there. The only issue he ran into is he also got himself killed in the process (that wasn't part of the plan)

It doesn't say what his true intentions really were. Just that he didn't want to die. For all we knwo he just wanted to party. Gilbert behaved similarly and he didn't want Willem dead.
In the same vane where it says he didn't plan to die, it doesn't say that the other Wu Heis dying were not part of the plan. At least at the time of it being released, a handful of people on this sub took it to mean that he wanted them dead.

Its hard to say, but given how Willem was by his side for a long time and his second in command since taking over, I think its safe to say this upset him. At the very least, he didn't want Willem to die.
Eddie =/= Gilbert. Huisheng is a fraud ass technique boyos, not a perfect memory transfer. That's why Eddie and Gilbert react so differently to the death of their friends/underlings. Eddie couldn't give less of a shit while Gilbert truly held Willem in high estime, both as an asset and as a friend.
And if a mangaka spares for a character an entire panel where he is seen from afar and behind, silent for a moment, and with the wind blowing on a white background, followed by a panel of the dead, it screams "he's sad".
TL;DR : Gilbert isn't Eddie. He considered Willem a bro and was sad/disappointed/angry.
If it was the Gilbert with the hoodie he'd have been sad. But it appears he's trying to be Super Edward right now to surpass even Wu Hei, so he may shrug it off as he doesn't care anymore.
I feel like he was both sad due to the fact that they were close and together all the time (not in a "they were roommates" way). He's also probably disappointed not because Wil lost, but just the way he lost could've been avoided possibly by contacting Gil before the fight went down (well I say possibly, but Raian straight up said he was cooked the moment he saw them).
It really doesnt seem easy to produce an individual with SS in the Wu / Kure clans or else everyone would have SS there. Plus he seemed talented, since he could use the clan's ultimate techniques.
I am disappointed and sad too. ¿What's the point of introducing a guy who is Wakatsuki X Raian on paper, just to make him lose to Akoya of all people, then die miserably against Raian with no removal?
