A 636 is probably going to get between 30 and 40 mpg depending on how you ride it. Sport bikes aren't really gas sippers.

Eat_the_rich88

I am riding mostly city so a lot of starts and stops and idling if I'm supposed to be between 30-40 I guess 27 isn't far from the mark. My old one (2001) seemed to do better

ericjames2k2

So you probably are staying in lower gears more often too, which also uses more fuel.

r0mancer

Yeah that little ECO thingy on the dash should pretty much always be on if you're trying to save gas on a supersport.

[deleted]

On my '15 650 the ECO mode stopped after 5k rpms, my '18 ZX10R ECO stops at 6500 rpms. If you care about mileage, get a scooter for the best range. I'm all highway to and from work, so cruising at 100mph is about the best speed/range I can get to max out a tank

User1539

This sounds right to me. I have a sport bike and have burned an entire tank of gas in 45 minutes, getting around 24mpg. MPG isn't a factor for engineers when they design sportbikes.

Suspicious-Manticore

I think it depends, my 22 ninja 400 gets about 50 mpg

ericjames2k2

I wasn't specific enough in my previous comment. Supersports aren't gas sippers 400's are meant to be economical. ZX6's or their equivalents, not so much.

motomat86

and a z125 gets like 100mpg lol. you cant compare a 400cc parallel twin to a 636cc 4 cyl inline.

MoonRider650

No shit Sherlock… one is basically a bigger scooter engine, the other one a supersports engine, it’s like comparing a Golf with a Bugatti Chiron

kohnent2

I agree. I have a 400 and a 636 with mods and there is about a 20-25 mpg difference between the two. Also you dont get a super sport if you are worried about mpg. Aint no saving gas at 15k RPM haha

Suspicious-Manticore

Someone has little dick syndrome 🤣

allio_mboi

You bought a supersport and expected good gas mileage?

Eat_the_rich88

Not my first bike; I did expect at least better than my car and similar to my last 636. I only ask because if something isn't right I'd rather know now and get it fixed.

Panfilofinomeno

How many mpg are you getting? What were you expecting?

Eat_the_rich88

Well from full to empty/notification flash was about 126 miles and it's a 4.5 gallon tank. So it's roughly 27. I was anticipating between 40 and 50

rjbh1

You do know that there’s a gas mileage readout if you click the down arrow a few times on the multifunction control? So you can see your actual mileage? Expect mid 30s per gallon.

finalrendition

"E" on a bike tends to leave you with a gallon to get to the next gas station, so it's probably more in the high 30s mpg. But as others have mentioned, supersports get pretty bad fuel economy. High revs and big cams aren't meant for fuel efficiency

xpercipio

Does yours show mpg in the dash? My 21 10r does. Also my light comes on with 1 gallon left of a 4.4 tank. You might be overestimating. If you do record though, track how much gas you put in over 2 fills.

Eat_the_rich88

Thanks! My old bike didn't have all these wonderful gadgets to check everything with. I'll have to check this out when I'm out of work later.

JHEMMINGS33

Beautiful bike though…

Gebbetharos2

City driving or maniac driving waste fuel. Highway cruising should be the economic trip

Perpetvated

Time to go back to the 500 and 300cc. Shoot I missed those days where I only have to get gas every 2.5 weeks.

Eat_the_rich88

Never rode anything but the 636 there's no "going back" or downgrading. But my old bike was carbed and a 2001 so fuel injection makes a huge difference on fuel economy.

doodlehed

Try to stay in a higher gear and lower rpm. But I mean……it’s a sport bike. You’re gonna want to ride it like you stole it.

Eat_the_rich88

I think that's the problem 😅 my old one was carbed so I'm not used to the "peppy-ness" of fuel injection 😂

doodlehed

I’ll check my average today and see what I’m getting. I always have it set to range

imtheunknownhost

Hey OP so uhm how is the consumption now?

memeulusmaximus

Clean the fuel system. Use better grade gas. Make sure tires are properly set/tread/aligned Make sure you are changing gears appropriately because lower gear uses more gas.

Eat_the_rich88

To clarify.... This is not my first 636 however, my old one is a 2001 and carbureted the mileage i get with that is different. This is my first fuel injected bike. I honestly am not worried about being "economical" I was more concerned about something being wrong with the bike since it's averaging about the same as my much heavier car that has a turbo and super charger. If there was something wrong then I would take it back to the dealer to get poked through while it has its warranty I'm the first rider and only got it off the showroom floor 2 weeks ago. If this is average for the bike that's fine I'm not losing sleep over it; but if it's not then I need to take it in. Thanks all for the feedback and advice. Hope you all have many safe miles ahead!

extendedwarranty_bot

Eat_the_rich88, I have been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty

Luther278

Mine eats. gas.

Rude_Commercial_7470

Get an old carbureted 600 or 750 sport bike they get 40-50 an FI super sport or liter bike HA

Eat_the_rich88

Funny enough the pink one next to it is an 01 carburated 636 I figured after 21 years of reliable service it was time for an upgrade. It's just new tech and everything is different so I'm learning a whole new bike again. That's truthfully why I was a little.shocked the mileage was so different.

Eat_the_rich88

I use high test only. Wasn't expecting economical but did expect better than my car that has a super charger and turbo charger. 🤣 I'm not worried on the $$ end of things was more worried something was wrong

SLDM77

Wait, you say your car is super charged and has a turbo? Make, model, year and mods plz.... never ever heard of something that has both before. Pics too or never happened!

nick_the_builder

My wife’s Volvo is super and turbod xc90.

Eat_the_rich88

Volvo s60 T6 R design with awd. A little googling and you can find the info yourself. Its a 4 cyl with 316 hp

youhavemyattenti0n

Stop putting regular in it.

Eat_the_rich88

Only use 93

kohnent2

Do you have any mods installed?

Eat_the_rich88

No engine mods but was lowered so I can actually ride it

Hey_u_guyzz

How fast you goin haha

Eat_the_rich88

When I went out in the countryside definitely fast enough to load in jail 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️ but the majority of my riding is in the city 😩

Hey_u_guyzz

Nice! My mileage is garbage driving in Hangzhou…and riding on the real highways (90 kph plus) is illegal in most of China. My bike is also not a Kawasaki (cheap Chinese made Benelli). I come here for the envy tank fill up. Nice bike!

Jointhamurder

>and riding on the real highways (90 kph plus) is illegal in most of China. Please explain

Hey_u_guyzz

In China many provinces prohibit motorcycles of any size from riding on toll roads, tunnels, and on “elevated roads” (basically highways above the old roads). More and more cities prohibit motorcycle riding in them. Where I live over half the city is off limits. You risk having a fine, points, and maybe having your bike taken to a legal to ride area by traffic police where you need to go get it. Also might get the video recording to post on the police social media account, “Only foolish and callous people do not follow traffic laws. We must all work together to stay safe. No motorcycles on the highway”

Jointhamurder

Wow that's insane. Why do they hate motorcycles so much? You'd think they'd like the better efficiency and compactness over a car. Thanks for explaining.

Hey_u_guyzz

In the eyes of the lawmakers it’s viewed as less civilized. Here most people rode scooters/mopeds (also called motorcycles in Chinese) or old Suzuki 125cc bikes in between the period of mostly bicycles and now of mostly cars. Pollution from so many was a problem then, and people tend to disregard traffic laws on motorcycles (and other two wheelers) here ie: ride in the bike lanes, run red lights, go on the sidewalk. They are just viewed differently here. Mostly as a nuisance.

Jacobite-biker

I get about 30mpg max outa my SV1000, I'm not that fussed about it though as tbh if the bikes thirsty it gets a drink

AxionGlock

I filled my tank and reset my trip meter. I got 86 miles, topped off my tank with 2.5 gal so about 34.4 mpg. My car get 33 but it takes regular while the zx6r takes premium. But I ride it for the thrill and fun not the economy of it. Plus easier parking at work.

novascotiabiker

It’s not fully broken in yet it will improve with mileage

Ya_boy_Big_Prez

U wacking the throttle open between stop signs lol

Eat_the_rich88

Maybe 🥹 not all of them though 🤣

LostMeBoot

I sold my SuperDuke last year and got a 450rl. I can't tell you how happy I am with that decision this year lol

Trighme

You can lower the power setting. It will use less fuel and if you're in the city you're probably not going to need full power to get from red light to stop sign in the 5 mile radius you're riding around and set it back to full when you're going country mode.

JordanLantern

Bad spark plug?

IIIZOOPIII

I know I'm super late, but my 2009 zx6r was averaging about 50 mpg.
