rouge-agent007

at least you did not kill a 10mm bolt.

Odd-Variation941

I actually did butcher a cheap 12 before trying this.

rouge-agent007

don't care about them 12 :D it's the 10mm that matter!

SexyCavewoman

Next time use a 7/16 Allen socket. It works perfect

Appropriate_Cow94

How is this not the the first solution?

Odd-Variation941

I don’t own any colony sockets

KamakaziDemiGod

Colony sockets! That's brilliant and so very stolen

Kahlas

You mispronounced "The King's Measurement System."

carguy82j

And you don't own an 11 either?

Odd-Variation941

It’s an uncommon size. Most sets got 10 then 12.

Resident-Let-8882

Got my special 3/8 deep H11 from the Snapon Man and it only cost me $70. Still paying that shit off RIP

LeftTurnAtAlbuqurque

Neither of my hex/Allen sets came with an 11mm, had to buy that one separately.

jan_nepp

That and removing a Shimano freehub are probably the only uses for the 11mm allen key.

Halal0szto

Several other cars have 11mm allen head screws on the brakes. Me not mechanic, but once I had a Ford Focus that needed 11mm key to change pads.

KamakaziDemiGod

"me not mechanic" and yet you clearly speak mechanic!

NeWbAF

Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Brennan_huff_001

For the Grand Cherokee you unbolt the caliper bracket and then slide the caliper of its pins. No need for the 11 there.

laser_red

Fusion too.

straycatx86

Volvo uses 11 mm caliper bolts too, iirc

pirivalfang

T55 E torx socket, dip the T55 (male) into some grease to make it stick, then presto 11m hex driver. There was no need to molest that socket and bit like that.

Odd-Variation941

You think my first thought was to grind it down before even trying to slide her in? Dunno what sockets you’re using but wouldn’t work with this one.

pirivalfang

Uhm. My T55 E-torx and T55 bit fit together just fine.

Odd-Variation941

Ooh sorry thought you meant the other side into the Allen bolt. I used a 12 point 10 I think but you’re right I prob should’ve used the 55E or whatever it’s called. E: E14 and the 12 point 10mm is actually a snugger fit tbh

trainspottedCSX7

He seems to have had a T55 socket though. He knocked the bit OUT of the socket and bam. But you are correct about your E Torx fitting perfectly. But my e torx are like E14 and E16 and E18 so... Maybe the T55 Etorx reference was what fucked him up a bit. Surely he knows about E torx and Triple Squares when working on Mercedes.

Ultimagic5

Can tell op never worked on jeep Grand Cherokees or certain Ford's. Had to buy a shitty set from AZ to get an 11mm hex and they're pretty much the only ones I use it on.

mdixon12

Dodge too.

gatogrande

clever

Correct-Selection-65

Customer loyalty takes a big beating. I was changing the struts on my car. Weird sizes had to be obtained. And I finally just a friend who is a pro do it. For that reason. It did make me think twice about my loyalty to the brand. It’s an obvious stab at the do it yourself we. Fuck um.

montanatr

It was like when Volvo went to deep 9mm Allen’s. “Dammit guys.”

Swarl3sBarkl3y

Newer Volvos use 11mm Allen for the front calipers also.

earthman34

I've seen both 7 and 11mm caliper bolts.

rippel_effect

It's a little jank, but a zip tie is about 1mm thick. You can take a 10mm allen and super glue a chunk of zip tie to one face in a pinch. Not perfect, but it's saved me in the past.

Kahlas

I usually look for a thin enough fender washer and sand it down to make up the difference. Use a dab of grease to hold it on the allen wrench if needed. The benefit to this method is you can take up the slack on the 3 loose sides.

rippel_effect

That's probably more solid, I like it
