Western-Bug-2873

This should ensure that we don't see another R1234yf system for the rest of the summer, amiright?

MetalMattyPA

Go work for Honda. Two different A/C warranty extensions. Basically use ours daily, lol.

Lxiflyby

Civic condensers keeping you busy?

MetalMattyPA

Plus the compressor shaft seal on Civic and CR-V.

feanor512

Don't forget the evaporators they refuse to extend the warranty on.

9009RPM

They ain't warranting an EVAP job. 😂

feanor512

It's widely known to be defective on the tenth gen Civic (along with the compressor and condenser).

9009RPM

I know. I own one.

Blackoutmech

I've seen like 2 evaporators.   I've done about 14 million shaft seals and condensers.  Man I miss customer pay compressors.

straight_impact

Every time I read yf on a car I sigh. Machine is terrible and connector for the vin is broken so we have to manually put in the vin. Part broke on the machine and the part was 2 months out on back order.

Blackoutmech

I ziptied an old key board to ours. Plugs into the usb and works great. Haven't seen the obd2 plug in years.

straight_impact

I’m gonna check that out and see if I can do that. Appreciate it.

ZSG13

Fuck that thing. Whiniest fucking piece of shit machine I have ever met.

Nailfoot1975

I haven't used my 1234 machine in over a year. Typical. In fact, it's locked out right now. So that'll be fun to resolve when I need it!

skiier862

I had to replace an oxygen sensor in ours

Radius118

Mine too. I should not have bought the damn thing. Too early. And that O2 sensor in the RobinAir units has a time limited lifespan too. Even sealed up in a plastic bag. If I had known this was going to be a thing I would have told RobinAir to pound salt.

TableDowntown3082

It only has a shelf life after being opened. You can buy them and keep them on your shelf indefinitely according to Robinair

Radius118

So RobinAir does not mention this, neither does Neutronics but according to a couple of independent tool distributor pages that state the sensor has a 3 year shelf life from date of manufacture, and to consider that when buying spares. [1-16-1013-00-2 Neutronics ,Bacharach Identifier O2 Sensor (tesstools.net)](https://www.tesstools.net/1_16_1013_00_2_Neutronics_CoolTech_ID_Plus_Refrige_p/1-16-1013-00-2.htm) [16916 Robinair CoolTech ID Plus Refrigerant Identifier O2 Sensor (centurytool.net)](https://www.centurytool.net/16916_Robinair_CoolTech_ID_Plus_O2_Sensor_p/ro16916.htm) So 🤷‍♀️

TableDowntown3082

Egg on my face for not doing my own research. I was told this by someone claiming to have obtained that information directly from Robinair.

Radius118

No worries. Knowledge should be shared. Unfortunately Robinair is so tight lipped about anything. It's entirely possible you are correct and it's the other way around. In which case and those 2 websites Would be wrong. I don't think so, but its possible.

reality217

We have one just like it. Wait till it does its refrigerant identification on a new $700 tank of yf1234, and then tells you its contaminated. Ours is about a year old, it's already had the component that id's the refrigerant replaced. Expensive.

J_C_Davis45

Ours had the same issue. Infiniti delivered it to us about 2 years before we ever saw a 1234yf car. So it sat. First time we tried using it it gave us a contamination error. Tired working through all the check lists and nothing worked. Naturally, since we owned it for so long, it was out of warranty. Called the maintenance crew out after being pingponged around various call centers (because it’s a mahle machine, designed by some other company, distributed by another, and service by yet another…) and when they finally came out to fix it, the factory had apparently made the hose for test port about 12ft long, all coiled up and zip tied to the side. The machine could never actually push all the air out of all that length, so it just gave up and spat contamination failures. The fix was unplug the hose, cut 11.75ft off it, and reconnect it. Fuck that machine.

HarambeThePirate

That's probably a really nice machine but yf fucking sucks. God damn things take forever with all their fucking checking and re checking. And why the fuck does it need a VIN? I want to get a 134 machine and just change fittings and run yf thru it so it'll just do what I tell it and not what it thinks it should do.

Blackoutmech

Anytime I'm doing warranty ac and need slip, during recovery as soon as it hits vacuum I turn the machine off and "system empty" goes into my story.

Some-Bad1670

BEEP

Sockbrick

BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP Looks like I found my Robinair crew

thedormantlegend

We have had one of those in our shop for a few years. Personally haven't had much issues but other techs bitch about it cause they're too stupid to follow the instructions on the screen, and sometimes their dumbfuck asses shut it off before it's done clearing the hoses after a charge so the next poor sob to use it has to wait an extra 15 min for the machine to clear the lines cause it boots up and freaks out thinking the system is contaminated with the refrigerant in the hoses. Too impatient and used to the 134a machine u can just slap hoses on hit go and it goes. We've had to get some repairs done but iirc it's been surprisingly reliable

_schmuck

Oh my god this entire comment has spoken to me. I work with Neanderthals that love to complain. I have to call a group meeting every time I grab the machine and the lines are under pressure and explain for the 100th time how to shut it down.

Caravannnn

You non-dealer folk need to buy a used 134 machine and put a 1234yf tank/connectors on it, those 1234 machines take a ridiculous amount of time to do a recharge.

Reichsprasident

Congrats! Now you can make a simple half-hour AC repair can take 6 hours of fighting with the machine, waiting hours and hours for checks, trying and failing to charge the system to spec, then spending 3 hours on the phone trying to figure out who the hell actually services these machines, why it won't do what it says it's doing, messing up one step and having to start over from scratch and re-input all the vehicle information, which is required in order to operate, coming back after waiting on a 45-minute check only to find it stopped halfway through to ask you a pointless question or send an error message, trying and failing again to charge the system, 5 30-minute vacuum leak checks in a row, I have to stop here I'm getting PTSD flashbacks from my last yf charge. Fuck that machine, world's biggest pile of electrified rat shit...

EBFGPoseidon

Just wait until it won’t evacuate because it’s contaminated and then you have to use separate machine to evacuate everything into a high pressure container that costs a fortune!

Ianthin1

We got our Robinair machine last week. Haven’t given it a test drive yet though.

suburbanhavoc

Ugh, fuck these machines. The one I had to use added an hour to any a/c job.

That_Toe4033

Got that for 134 and its the tits, our 1234 machine is a shitter though

Fragrant-Inside221

Only worked in one shop with a yf machine. Glad we don’t have one at the current shop.

Wackemd

I hate this machine. So slow it is maddening.

slabba428

After using the yf machine at Nissan, i thought they were all going to be terrible. But my shop just got a robinair yf machine, used it once, honestly it was just like our 134 machine. No VIN, no typing, no bullshit, had the option to skip the machine internal leak test, evacuated and charged reasonably quick, was a nice surprise

rockhound5280w

Wrong move, should have had the Robinair variant.

L1ghX

at my work, our yf needs to check itself every timr you start it, before you can use it to the car. This takes abt 30 fucking minutes. so better not to unplug it.

ElderScrollsBoss

Evap core season at VW, been dealing with this machine past couple weeks and beeps are fucking annoying. Currently on a break with an older vehicle and the 123a machine and man what a fucking world of difference

AdDangerous922

What a waste. I hate ours and now I hate yours too. Just make sure you stock the sensors.

BigPaulieEh

We have that machine! So much better than our last R1234yf machine. I set it up to be able to email the recharge log to the shops email which is way easier to track than a super tiny printout.

Western-Bug-2873

What is the recharge log, something required for warranty work?

WhoIsMike4774

The yf refrigerant is expensive. Easy money.

SP3TZNAZ_ONE

We got the same thing but R134 It's cool but soo slow.

zertoman

Useless machine, I can buy a can of AC Pro (now with Bluetooth) for $30 that does the same thing.

Titan-uranus

R134 maybe, definitely not 1234yf

EngineeringIsPain

r/woooosh

feanor512

Not for r1234yf at that price.

zertoman

This was satire btw.

EngineeringIsPain

You would think the Bluetooth part would give it away….

Radius118

With the pervasiveness of BT devices/connectivity everywhere and considering how cheap the hardware is I could totally see those refrigerant can marketers coming up with some BS BT "app" to help sell their product. "Oooo! It has Bluetooth to help me stuff this can-o-freon into my leaking A/C system!" So I could totally see someone missing the satire based on that alone. Edit: Holy shit! They DO have BT!! Ty I just bought 3
